In this paper we complete our construction of frame-like gauge invariant description for massive mixed symmetry tensor fields corresponding to arbitrary Young tableau with two rows started in [1]. We consider general massive theory in (A)dS spaces with arbitrary cosmological constant as well as all special limits which exist both in de Sitter and in anti-de Sitter spaces.
In this paper, as a first step toward frame-like gauge invariant formulation for massive mixed symmetry bosonic fields, we consider mixed tensors, corresponding to Young tableau with two rows with k >= 2 boxes in the first row and only one box in the second one. We construct complete Lagrangian and gauge transformations describing massive particles in (anti) de Sitter space-time with arbitrary dimension d >= 4 and investigate all possible massless and partially massless limits.
Starting from higher dimensional adinkras constructed with nodes referenced by Dynkin Labels, we define "adynkras." These suggest a computationally direct way to describe the component fields contained within supermultiplets in all superspaces. We explicitly discuss the cases of ten dimensional superspaces. We show this is possible by replacing conventional $θ$-expansions by expansions over Young Tableaux and component fields by Dynkin Labels. Without the need to introduce $σ$-matrices, this permits rapid passages from Adynkras $\to$ Young Tableaux $\to$ Component Field Index Structures for bo…
The lagrangian description of irreducible massless representations of the Poincare group with the corresponding Young tableaux having two rows along with some explicit examples including the notoph and Weyl tensor is given. For this purpose is used the method of the BRST constructions adopted to the systems of second class constraints by the construction of an auxiliary representations of the algebras of constraints in terms of Verma modules.
Particular class of AdS(d) mixed-symmetry bosonic massless fields corresponding to arbitrary two-column Young tableaux is considered. Unique gauge invariant free actions are found and equations of motion are analyzed.
In Bosonic, Heterotic and Type II theories, by employing soft theorems and string techniques, we analyze the gyromagnetic ratios of massive high spin particles coupled to Abelian gauge fields arising from the compactification of the metric and Kalb-Ramond fields. We derive a universal form for such couplings showing that mixed symmetry states of the leading Regge-trajectory, described by a Young-tableau with two rows, have a gyromagnetic ratio associated with each row.
In this paper we consider frame-like formulation for mixed symmetry spin-tensors corresponding to arbitrary Young tableau with two rows. First of all, we extend Skvortsov formulation for massless mixed symmetry bosonic fields in flat Minkowski space to the case of massless fermionic fields. Then, using such massless fields as building blocks, we construct gauge invariant formulation for massive spin-tensors with the same symmetry properties. We give general massive theories in (A)dS spaces with arbitrary cosmological constant and investigate all possible massless and partially massless limits.
We develop the BRST approach to gauge invariant Lagrangian construction for the massive mixed symmetry integer higher spin fields described by the rank-two Young tableaux in arbitrary dimensional Minkowski space. The theory is formulated in terms of auxiliary Fock space. No off-shell constraints on the fields and the gauge parameters are imposed. The approach under consideration automatically leads to a gauge invariant Lagrangian for massive theory with all appropriate Stuckelberg fields. It is shown that all the restrictions defining an irreducible representation of the Poincare group arise f…
Gauge fields of mixed symmetry, corresponding to arbitrary representations of the local Lorentz group of the background spacetime, arise as massive modes in compactifications of superstring theories. We describe bosonic gauge field theories on constant curvature spaces whose fields are in irreducible representations of the general linear group corresponding to Young tableaux with two columns. The gauge-invariant actions for such fields are given and generally require the use of auxiliary fields and additional mass-like terms. We examine these theories in various (partially) massless regimes in…
We make use of O(2r+1) spinning particle models to construct linearized higher-spin curvatures in (A)dS spaces for fields of arbitrary half-integer spin propagating in a space of arbitrary (even) dimension: the field potentials, whose curvatures are computed with the present models, are spinor-tensors of mixed symmetry corresponding to Young tableaux with D/2 - 1 rows and r columns, thus reducing to totally symmetric spinor-tensors in four dimensions. The paper generalizes similar results obtained in the context of integer spins in (A)dS.
Gauge fields in exotic representations of the Lorentz group in D dimensions - i.e. ones which are tensors of mixed symmetry corresponding to Young tableaux with arbitrary numbers of rows and columns - naturally arise through massive string modes and in dualising gravity and other theories in higher dimensions. We generalise the formalism of differential forms to allow the discussion of arbitrary gauge fields. We present the gauge symmetries, field strengths, field equations and actions for the free theory, and construct the various dual theories. In particular, we discuss linearised gravity in…
The details of Lagrangian description of irreducible integer higher-spin representations of the Poincare group with an Young tableaux $Y[\hat{s}_1,\hat{s}_2]$ having $2$ columns are considered for Bose particles propagated on an arbitrary dimensional Minkowski space-time. The procedure is based, first, on using of an auxiliary Fock space generated by Fermi oscillators (antisymmetric basis), second, on construction of the Verma module and finding auxiliary oscillator realization for $sl(2)\oplus sl(2)$ algebra which encodes the second-class operator constraints subsystem in the HS symmetry supe…
The spectrum of superstring theory on the $AdS_5 \times S_5$ Ramond-Ramond background in tensionless limit contains integer and half-integer higher-spin fields subject at most to two-rows Young tableaux $Y(s_1,s_2)$. We review the details of a gauge-invariant Lagrangian description of such massive and massless higher-spin fields in anti-de-Sitter spaces with arbitrary dimensions. The procedure is based on the construction of Verma modules, its oscillator realizations and of a BFV-BRST operator for non-linear algebras encoding unitary irreducible representations of AdS group.
The frame-like covariant Lagrangian formulation of bosonic and fermionic mixed-symmetry type higher spin massless fields propagating on the AdS(d) background is proposed. Higher spin fields are described in terms of gauge p-forms which carry tangent indices representing certain traceless tensor or gamma transversal spinor-tensor representations of the AdS(d) algebra o(d-1,2) (or o(d,1) for bosonic fields in dS(d)). Manifestly gauge invariant Abelian higher spin field strengths are introduced for the general case. We describe the general framework and demonstrate how it works for the mixed-symm…
We study the one loop effective action for a class of higher spin fields by using a first-quantized description. The latter is obtained by considering spinning particles, characterized by an extended local supersymmetry on the worldline, that can propagate consistently on conformally flat spaces. The gauge fixing procedure for calculating the worldline path integral on a loop is delicate, as the gauge algebra contains nontrivial structure functions. Restricting the analysis on (A)dS backgrounds simplifies the gauge fixing procedure, and allows us to produce a useful representation of the one l…
We review the details of unconstrained Lagrangian formulations for Bose particles propagated on an arbitrary dimensional flat space-time and described by the unitary irreducible integer higher-spin representations of the Poincare group subject to Young tableaux $Y(s_1,...,s_k)$ with $k$ rows. The procedure is based on the construction of Verma modules and finding auxiliary oscillator realizations for the symplectic $sp(2k)$ algebra which encodes the second-class operator constraints subsystem in the HS symmetry algebra. Application of an universal BRST approach reproduces gauge-invariant Lagra…
Massive fields on (anti) de Sitter space realize extended shift symmetries at particular values of their masses. We find these symmetries for all bosonic p-forms and mixed symmetry fields, in arbitrary spacetime dimension. These shift symmetric fields correspond to the missing longitudinal modes of mixed symmetry partially massless fields where the top row of the Young tableau is activated.
In this paper we elaborate on the gauge invariant frame-like Lagrangian description for the wide class of the so-called infinite (or continuous) spin representations of Poincaré group. We use our previous results on the gauge invariant formalism for the massive mixed symmetry fields corresponding to the Young tableau with two rows Y(k,l) (Y(k+1/2,l+1/2) for the fermionic case). We have shown that the corresponding infinite spin solutions can be constructed as a limit where k goes to infinity, while l remain to be fixed and label different representations. Moreover, our gauge invariant formalis…
We derive non-linear commutator HS symmetry algebra, which encode unitary irreducible representations of AdS group subject to Young tableaux $Y(s_1,...,s_k)$ with $k\geq 2$ rows on $d$-dimensional anti-de-Sitter space. Auxiliary representations for specially deformed non-linear HS symmetry algebra in terms of generalized Verma module in order to additively convert a subsystem of second-class constraints in the HS symmetry algebra into one with first-class constraints are found explicitly for the case of HS fields for $k=2$ Young tableaux. The oscillator realization over Heisenberg algebra for …
We consider the first quantised approach to quantum field theory coupled to a non-Abelian gauge field. Representing the colour degrees of freedom with a single family of auxiliary variables the matter field transforms in a reducible representation of the gauge group which - by adding a suitable Chern-Simons term to the particle action - can be projected onto a chosen fully (anti-)symmetric representation. By considering F families of auxiliary variables, we describe how to extend the model to arbitrary tensor products of F reducible representations, which realises a U(F) "flavour" symmetry on …
We analyze Bosonic, Heterotic, and Type II string theories compactified on a generic torus having constant moduli. By computing the hamiltonian giving the interaction between massive string excitations and $U(1)$ gauge fields arising from the graviton and Kalb-Ramond field upon compactification, we derive a general formula for such couplings that turns out to be universal in all these theories. We also confirm our result by explicitly evaluating the relevant string three-point amplitudes. From this expression, we determine the gyromagnetic ratio $g$ of massive string states coupled to both gau…
We analyze the dynamics of weakly coupled finite temperature $U(N)$ gauge theories on $S^3$ by studying a class of effective unitary matrix model. Solving Dyson-Schwinger equation at large $N$, we find that different phases of gauge theories are characterized by gaps in eigenvalue distribution over a unit circle. In particular, we obtain no-gap, one-gap and two-gap solutions at large $N$ for a class of matrix model we are considering. The same effective matrix model can equivalently be written as a sum over representations (or Young diagrams) of unitary group. We show that at large $N$, Young …
We construct a Lagrangian description of irreducible half-integer higher-spin representations of the Poincare group with the corresponding Young tableaux having two rows, on a basis of the BRST approach. Starting with a description of fermionic higher-spin fields in a flat space of any dimension in terms of an auxiliary Fock space, we realize a conversion of the initial operator constraint system (constructed with respect to the relations extracting irreducible Poincare-group representations) into a first-class constraint system. For this purpose, we find auxiliary representations of the const…
The details of unconstrained Lagrangian formulations (being continuation of earlier developed research for Bose particles in NPB 862 (2012) 270, [arXiv:1110.5044[hep-th]], Phys. of Part. and Nucl. 43 (2012) 689, [arXiv:1202.4710 [hep-th]]) are reviewed for Fermi particles propagated on an arbitrary dimensional Minkowski space-time and described by the unitary irreducible half-integer higher-spin representations of the Poincare group subject to Young tableaux $Y(s_1,...,s_k)$ with $k$ rows. The procedure is based on the construction of the Verma modules and finding auxiliary oscillator realizat…
We study actions for massive bosonic particles of higher spins by dimensionally reducing an action for massless particles. For the latter we take a model with a SO(N) extended local supersymmetry on the worldline, that is known to describe massless (conformal) particles of higher spins in flat spacetimes of even dimensions. Dimensional reduction produces an action for massive spinning particles in odd dimensions. The field equations that emerge in a quantization a la Dirac are shown to be equivalent to the Fierz-Pauli ones. The massless limit generates a multiplet of massless states with highe…
BRST-BFV method for constrained Lagrangian formulations (LFs) for (ir)reducible half-integer HS Poincare group representations in Minkowski space is suggested. The procedure is derived by 2 ways: from the unconstrained BRST-BFV method for mixed-symmetry HS fermionic fields subject to an arbitrary Young tableaux with k rows (suggested in arXiv:1211.1273[hep-th]) by extracting the second-class constraints, $\widehat{O}_α=(\widehat{O}_a, \widehat{O}^+_a)$, from a total superalgebra of constraints, second, in self-consistent way by means of finding BRST-extended initial off-shell algebraic constra…
