Isentropic trajectories crossing the chiral phase transition near the critical endpoint (CEP) are studied for two light quark flavors. The calculations are performed within an effective chiral model with quark-meson interactions, belonging to the same universality class as QCD. We confront mean-field thermodynamics with the functional renormalization group approach, where fluctuations are properly taken into account. We establish a connection between modifications of the isentropic trajectories found in mean-field calculations at the crossover transition near the CEP and the order of the phase transition in the chiral limit. Furthermore, the isentropes obtained with the renormalization group are completely smooth at the crossover transition and do not in any way reflect the proximity of the CEP. In particular, our results do not show the recently conjectured focussing of isentropes from the crossover region towards the critical endpoint.
The location of the critical end point (CEP) and the isentropic trajectories in the QCD phase diagram are investigated. We use the (2+1) Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model with the Polyakov loop coupling for different scenarios, namely by imposing zero strange quark density, which is the case in the ultra relativistic heavy-ion collisions, and $β$-equilibrium. The influence of strong magnetic fields and of the vector interaction on the isentropic trajectories around the CEP is discussed. It is shown that the vector interaction and the magnetic field, having opposite effects on the first-order transiti…
Violation of scale symmetry, scale anomaly, being a radical concept in quantum field theory, is of importance to comprehend the vacuum structure of QCD, and should potentially contribute to the chiral phase transition in thermal QCD, as well as the chiral and U(1) axial symmetry. Though it should be essential, direct evidence of scale anomalies has never been observed in the chiral phase transition. We propose a methodology to detect a scale anomaly in the chiral phase transition, which is an electromagnetically induced scale anomaly: apply a weak magnetic field background onto two-flavor mass…
We investigate the fate of the Roberge-Weiss endpoint transition and its connection with the restoration of chiral symmetry as the chiral limit of $N_f = 2+1$ QCD is approached. We adopt a stout staggered discretization on lattices with $N_t = 4$ sites in the temporal direction; the chiral limit is approached maintaining a constant physical value of the strange-to-light mass ratio and exploring three different light quark masses, corresponding to pseudo-Goldstone pion masses $m_π\simeq 100, 70$ and 50 MeV around the transition. A finite size scaling analysis provides evidence that the transiti…
We briefly discuss the status of the signatures of the QCD critical endpoint in heavy-ion collisions concentrating on the role played by the finiteness of the medium created in such experiments.
We extend the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model by introducing an effective four-quark vertex depending on Polyakov loop. The effective vertex generates entanglement interactions between Polyakov loop and chiral condensate. The new model is consistent with lattice QCD data at imaginary quark-number chemical potential and real and imaginary isospin chemical potentials, particularly on strong correlation between the chiral and deconfinement transitions and also on the quark-mass dependence of the order of the Roberge-Weiss endpoint predicted by lattice QCD very lately. We in…
We introduce a method based on the chiral susceptibility, which enables one to draw a phase diagram in the chemical-potential/temperature plane for strongly-interacting quarks whose interactions are described by any reasonable gap equation, even if the diagrammatic content of the quark-gluon vertex is unknown. We locate a critical endpoint (CEP) at (μ^E,T^E) ~ (1.0,0.9)T_c, where T_c is the critical temperature for chiral symmetry restoration at μ=0; and find that a domain of phase coexistence opens at the CEP whose area increases as a confinement length-scale grows.
A class of Polyakov-loop-modified Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) models have been used to support a conjecture that numerical simulations of lattice-regularized quantum chromodynamics (QCD) defined with a chiral chemical potential can provide information about the existence and location of a critical endpoint in the QCD phase diagram drawn in the plane spanned by baryon chemical potential and temperature. That conjecture is challenged by conflicts between the model results and analyses of the same problem using simulations of lattice-regularized QCD (lQCD) and well-constrained Dyson-Schwinger equa…
Relatively low crossover temperature suggests that chiral symmetry restoration in QCD may well be described within the low-energy effective theory. The shape of the pseudocritical line in the T-mu plane is estimated within this assumption. No critical endpoint is found for physical values of quark masses.
We study the effects of pion and sigma meson backcoupling on the chiral order parameters and the QCD phase diagram and determine their effect on the location of the chiral critical endpoint. To this end, we solve a coupled set of truncated Dyson--Schwinger equations for Landau gauge quark and gluon propagators with $N_f=2+1$ dynamical quark flavors and explicitly backcoupled mesons. The corresponding meson bound-state properties and the quark-meson Bethe--Salpeter vertices are obtained from their homogeneous Bethe--Salpeter equation. We find chiral-restoration effects of the pion and/or sigma …
Finite-volume modifications of the two-flavor chiral phase diagram are investigated within an effective quark-meson model in various mean-field approximations. The role of vacuum fluctuations and boundary conditions, their influence on higher cumulants and signatures of a possible pseudo-critical endpoint are amplified with smaller volumes.
We suggest the idea, supported by concrete calculations within chiral models, that the critical endpoint of the phase diagram of Quantum Chromodynamics with three colors can be detected, by means of Lattice simulations of grand-canonical ensembles with a chiral chemical potential, $μ_5$, conjugated to chiral charge density. In fact, we show that a continuation of the critical endpoint of the phase diagram of Quantum Chromodynamics at finite chemical potential, $μ$, to a critical end point in the temperature-chiral chemical potential plane, is possible. This study paves the way of the mapping o…
We present results for the chiral and deconfinement transition of two flavor QCD at finite temperature and chemical potential. To this end we study the quark condensate and its dual, the dressed Polyakov loop, with functional methods using a set of Dyson-Schwinger equations. The quark-propagator is determined self-consistently within a truncation scheme including temperature and in-medium effects of the gluon propagator. For the chiral transition we find a crossover turning into a first order transition at a critical endpoint at large quark chemical potential, $μ_{EP}/T_{EP} \approx 3$. For th…
In the preceding paper(Prog.Theor.Phys.108(2002)929 or hep-ph/0207255), we have shown that the critical line of the first order chiral transition of QCD can have two endpoints. In this addendum, we elucidate the mechanism to realize the two-endpoint structure in the QCD phase diagram and argue the robustness for the appearance of such an interesting phase structure.
We study the thermodynamic curvature, $R$, around the chiral phase transition at finite temperature and chemical potential, within the quark-meson model augmented with meson fluctuations. We study the effect of the fluctuations, pions and $σ$-meson, on the top of the mean field thermodynamics and how these affect $R$ around the crossover. We find that for small chemical potential the fluctuations enhance the magnitude of $R$, while they do not affect substantially the thermodynamic geometry in the proximity of the critical endpoint. Moreover, in agreement with previous studies we find that $R$…
We discuss how the finiteness of the system created in a heavy-ion collision affects possible signatures of the QCD critical endpoint. We show sizable results for the modifications of the chiral phase diagram at volume scales typically encountered in current heavy-ion collisions and address the applicability of finite-size scaling as a tool in the experimental search for the critical endpoint.
We investigate finite-size effects on the chiral phase diagram of strong interactions within the linear sigma model coupled to quarks. We estimate the modification of the pseudocritical transition line and isentropic trajectories for sizes that are representative of the systems created in relativistic heavy ion collision experiments. The corrections are clearly non-negligible and might significantly affect signatures of the chiral critical endpoint based on estimates for an infinite system. We argue that a finite-size scaling analysis should be tested in the process of data analysis of the Bea…
We study the thermodynamics of helical matter, namely quark matter in which a net helicity, $n_H$, is in equilibrium. Interactions are modeled by the renormalized quark-meson model with two flavors of quarks. Helical density is described within the grand-canonical ensemble formalism via a chemical potential, $μ_H$. We study the transitions from the normal quark matter and hadron gas to the helical matter, drawing the phase diagram at zero temperature. We study the restoration of chiral symmetry at finite temperature and show that the net helical density softens the transition, moving the criti…
The chiral phase transition of the strongly interacting matter is investigated at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential mu_B within an extended (2+1) flavor Polyakov constituent quark-meson model which incorporates the effect of the vector and axial vector mesons. The effect of the fermionic vacuum and thermal fluctuations computed from the grand potential of the model is taken into account in the curvature masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. The parameters of the model are determined by comparing masses and tree-level decay widths with experimental values in a chi^2-mini…
The critical endpoint (CEP) and the phase structure are studied in the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in which the scalar type eight-quark (σ^4) interaction and the vector type four-quark interaction are newly added. The σ^4 interaction largely shifts the CEP toward higher temperature and lower chemical potential, while the vector type interaction does oppositely. At zero chemical potential, the σ^4 interaction moves the pseudo-critical temperature of the chiral phase transition to the vicinity of that of the deconfinement phase transition.
We determine the second order endpoint of the line of first order phase transitions, which occur in the light quark mass regime of 3-flavour QCD at finite temperature, and analyze universal properties of this chiral critical point. A detailed analysis of Binder cumulants and the joint probability distributions of energy like and ordering-field like observables confirms that the chiral critical point belongs to the universality class of the three dimensional Ising model. From a calculation with improved gauge and staggered fermion actions we estimate that the transition is first order for pseud…
We study the thermodynamic geometry of the Quark-Meson model, focusing on the curvature, $R$, around the chiral crossover at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential. We find a peculiar behavior of $R$ in the crossover region, in which the sign changes and a local maximum develops; in particular, the height of the peak of $R$ in the crossover region becomes large in proximity of the critical endpoint and diverges at the critical endpoint. The appearance of a pronounced peak of $R$ close to the critical endpoint supports the idea that $R$ grows with the correlation volume around the pha…
QCD with three degenerate quark flavours at zero baryon density exhibits a first order thermal phase transition for small quark masses, which changes to a smooth crossover for some critical quark mass m^c_0, i.e. the chiral critical point. It is generally believed that as an (even) function of quark chemical potential, m_c(mu), the critical point moves to larger quark masses, constituting the critical endpoint of a first order phase transition in theories with m\geq m^c_0. To test this, we consider a Taylor expansion of m_c(mu) around mu=0 and determine the first two coefficients from lattice …
The critical endpoint of the QCD phase diagram is usually expected to belong to the chiral critical surface, i.e. the surface of second order transitions bounding the region of first order chiral phase transitions for small quark masses in the {m_{u,d}, m_s,μ} parameter space. For μ=0, QCD with physical quark masses is known to be an analytic crossover, requiring the region of chiral transitions to expand with μfor a critical endpoint to exist. Instead, on coarse N_t=4 lattices, we find the area of chiral transitions to shrink with μ, which excludes a chiral critical point for QCD at moderate …
The interplay of mesonic fluctuations with an axial $U(1)_A$-symmetry breaking and resulting effects on the location of a possibly existing critical endpoint in the QCD phase diagram are investigated in a framework of the functional renormalization group within a $N_f = 2 + 1$ flavor quark-meson model truncation. The axial $U(1)_A$-symmetry breaking is imposed by a mesonic Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t Hooft determinant. The quark mass sensitivity of the chiral phase transition with and without the $U(1)_A$-symmetry breaking is studied.
In this work, we explore the possible existence of several critical endpoints in the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter using an extended PNJL model with 't Hooft determinant and eight quark interactions in the up, down and strange sectors. Besides, we also study the isentropic trajectories crossing both (light and strange) chiral phase transitions and around the critical endpoint in both the crossover and first-order transition regions.
We present numerical results for the location of the chiral critical line at finite temperature and zero and non-zero baryon density for QCD with N_f=2+1 flavours of staggered fermions on lattices with temporal extent N_t=4. For degenerate quark masses, we compare our results obtained with the exact RHMC algorithm with earlier, inexact R-algorithm results and find a reduction of 25% in the critical quark mass, for which the first order phase transition changes to a smooth crossover. Extending our analysis to non-degenerate quark masses, we map out the chiral critical line up to the neighbourho…
We study the phase diagram of $N_f = 2+1$ QCD in the $T - μ_B$ plane and investigate the critical point corresponding to the onset of the Roberge-Weiss transition, which is found for imaginary values of $μ_B$. We make use of stout improved staggered fermions and of the tree level Symanzik gauge action, and explore four different sets of lattice spacings, corresponding to $N_t = 4,6,8,10$, and different spatial sizes, in order to assess the universality class of the critical point. The continuum extrapolated value of the endpoint temperature is found to be $T_{\rm RW} = 208(5)$ MeV, i.e. $T_{\r…
Taking into account the finiteness of the system created in heavy ion collisions, we show sizable results for the modifications of the chiral phase diagram at volume scales typically encountered in current experiments and demonstrate the applicability of finite-size scaling as a tool in the experimental search for the critical endpoint. Using data from RHIC and SPS and assuming finite-size scaling, we find that RHIC data from 200 GeV down to 19.6 GeV is only consistent with a critical point at μ\gtrsim 510 MeV. We also present predictions for the fluctuations at lower energies currently being …
The phase diagram of QCD is investigated by varying number of colors $N_c$ within a Polyakov loop quark-meson chiral model. In particular, our attention is focused on the critical point(s): the critical point present for $N_c=3$ moves toward the $μ_q$-axis and disappears as soon as the number of color is increased. Yet, a distinct critical point emerges along the temperature axis for $N_c = 53$ and moves toward finite density when increasing $N_c$ further. Thus, the phase diagram at large $N_c$ looks specular w.r.t. the $N_c = 3$ results, with the first order transition in the upper-left and c…
We study the impact of higher order quark-meson scattering processes on the chiral phase structure of two-flavour QCD at finite temperature and quark density. Thermal, density and quantum fluctuations are included within a functional renormalisation group approach to the quark-meson model. We present results on the chiral phase boundary, the critical endpoint, and the curvature of the phase transition line at vanishing density.
We present a recent development towards a unified description of quark-hadron matter in the QCD phase diagram that is based on a cluster decomposition of the generalized Beth-Uhlenbeck approach to quark matter, selfconsistently coupled to Polyakov-loop and mesonic background fields. The Mott dissociation of hadrons under extreme conditions of temperature and density is triggered by chiral symmetry restoration and confining aspects are modeled by the coupling to the background mean fields. First results for the QCD phase diagram with the capability to describe critical endpoints as well as cros…
The chiral phase transition is studied in an extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with eight-quark interactions. Equations for scalar and vector quark densities, derived in the mean field approximation, are nonlinear and mutually coupled. The scalar-type nonlinear term hastens the restoration of chiral symmetry, while the scalar-vector mixing term makes the transition sharper. The scalar-type nonlinear term shifts the critical endpoint toward the values predicted by lattice QCD simulations and the QCD-like theory.
The chiral critical surface is a surface of second order phase transitions bounding the region of first order chiral phase transitions for small quark masses in the {m_{u,d}, m_s,μ} parameter space. The potential critical endpoint of the QCD (T,μ)-phase diagram is widely expected to be part of this surface. Since for μ=0 with physical quark masses QCD is known to exhibit an analytic crossover, this expectation requires the region of chiral transitions to expand with μfor a chiral critical endpoint to exist. Instead, on coarse N_t=4 lattices, we find the area of chiral transitions to shrink wit…
The phase diagram of strongly interacting matter is studied within a three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, which contains the coupling between chiral and diquark condensates through the axial anomaly. Our results show that it is essential to include the 2SC phase in the analysis. While this is expected for realistic strange quark masses, we find that even for equal up, down, and strange bare quark masses, 2SC pairing can be favored due to spontaneous flavor-symmetry breaking by the axial anomaly. This can lead to a rich phase structure, including BCS- and BEC-like 2SC and CFL phases and new …
The average phase factor of the QCD fermion determinant signals the strength of the QCD sign problem. We compute the average phase factor as a function of temperature and baryon chemical potential using a two-flavor NJL model. This allows us to study the strength of the sign problem at and above the chiral transition. It is discussed how the $U_A(1)$ anomaly affects the sign problem. Finally, we study the interplay between the sign problem and the endpoint of the chiral transition.
The phase structure of the two-flavor Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lashinio model is explored at finite temperature and imaginary chemical potential with a particular emphasis on the confinement-deconfinement transition. We point out that the confined phase is characterized by a $\cos3μ_I/T$ dependence of the chiral condensate on the imaginary chemical potential while in the deconfined phase this dependence is given by $\cosμ_I/T$ and accompanied by a cusp structure induced by the Z(3) transition. We demonstrate that the phase structure of the model strongly depends on the choice of the P…
We present results from an ongoing study of the phase diagram of (2+1)-flavor QCD using the HISQ action with smaller than physical light quark masses in the Roberge-Weiss (RW) plane on lattices with temporal extent $N_τ=4$. We find that the endpoint of the $1^{st}$ order RW transition line remains $2^{nd}$ order at least down to light quark masses corresponding to Goldstone pion masses of $55$ MeV. Furthermore, we show that the chiral condensate is sensitive to the RW transition and may serve as a energy-like operator characterizing universal behavior close to the RW endpoint.
We calculate the transition temperature in 2 and 3-flavor QCD using improved gauge and staggered fermion actions on lattices with temporal extent Nt=4. We find Tc=173(8)MeV and 154(8)MeV for nf=2 and 3, respectively. In the case of 3-flavor QCD we present evidence that the chiral critical point, i.e. the second order endpoint of the line of first order chiral phase transitions, belongs to the universality class of the 3d Ising model.
The effect of explicit chiral-symmetry breaking on inhomogeneous chiral phases is studied within a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with nonzero current quark mass. Generalizing an earlier result obtained in the chiral limit, we show within a Ginzburg-Landau analysis that the critical endpoint of the first-order chiral phase boundary between two homogeneous phases gets replaced by a "pseudo-Lifshitz point" when the possibility of inhomogeneous order parameters is considered. Performing a stability analysis we also show that the unstable mode along the phase boundary is in the scalar but not in the pse…
We study the deconfinement and chiral restoration transitions in the context of non-local PNJL models, considering the impact of the presence of dynamical quarks on the scale parameter appearing in the Polyakov potential. We show that the corresponding critical temperatures are naturally entangled for both zero and imaginary chemical potential, in good agreement with lattice QCD results. We also analyze the Roberge Weiss transition, which is found to be first order at the associated endpoint.
We study the qualitative features of the QCD phase diagram in the context of the linear quark-meson model with two flavours, using the exact renormalization group. We identify the universality classes of the second-order phase transitions and calculate critical exponents. In the absence of explicit chiral-symmetry breaking through the current quark masses, we discuss in detail the tricritical point and demonstrate that it is linked to the Gaussian fixed point. In its vicinity we study the universal crossover between the Gaussian and O(4) fixed points, and the weak first-order phase transitions…
We discuss the interplay between chiral and center sector phase transitions that occur in QCD with an imaginary quark chemical potential $μ=i(2n+1) πT/3$. Based on a finite size scaling analysis in (2+1)-flavor QCD using HISQ fermions with a physical strange quark mass and a range of light quark masses, we show that the endpoint of the line of first-order Roberge-Weiss (RW) transitions between center sectors is second order for light quark masses $m_l\ge m_s/320$, and that it belongs to the $3$-d, $Z(2)$ universality class. The operator for the chiral condensate behaves like an energy-like ope…
The phase structure of two-flavor QCD is explored for thermal systems with finite baryon- and isospin-chemical potentials, mu_B and mu_{iso}, by using the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model. The PNJL model with the scalar-type eight-quark interaction can reproduce lattice QCD data at not only mu_{iso}=mu_B=0 but also mu_{iso}>0 and mu_B=0. In the mu_{iso}-mu_{B}-T space, where T is temperature, the critical endpoint of the chiral phase transition in the mu_B-T plane at mu_{iso}=0 moves to the tricritical point of the pion-superfluidity phase transition in the mu_{iso}-T pl…
Studies of the QCD phase diagram must properly include nucleonic degrees of freedom and their thermodynamics in the range of baryon chemical potentials characteristic of nuclear matter. A useful framework for incorporating relevant nuclear physics constraints in this context is a chiral nucleon-meson effective Lagrangian. In the present paper, such a chiral nucleon-meson model is extended with systematic inclusion of mesonic fluctuations using the functional renormalization group approach. The resulting description of the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition shows a remarkable agreement with th…
The role of the axial anomaly in the chiral phase transition at finite temperature and quark chemical potential is investigated within a non-perturbative functional renormalization group approach. The flow equation for the grand potential is solved to leading-order in a derivative expansion of a three flavor quark-meson model truncation. The results are compared with a standard and an extended mean-field analysis, which facilitates the exploration of the influence of bosonic and fermionic fluctuations, respectively, on the phase transition. The influence of U(1)_A-symmetry breaking on the chir…
We study the properties of the shear viscosity coefficient of quark matter at finite temperature and chemical potential near chiral phase transition in a strong background magnetic field. A strong magnetic field induces anisotropic features, phase-space Landau-level quantization, and if the magnetic field is sufficiently strong, interferes with prominent QCD phenomena such as dynamical quark mass generation, likely affecting the quark matter transport characteristics. The modified Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with inverse magnetic catalysis effect by fitting the Lattice QCD (LQCD) results is…
We discuss the influence of a helicity imbalance on the phase diagram of dense QCD at finite temperature. We argue that the helical chemical potential is a thermodynamically relevant quantity in theories with the mass gap generation. Using the linear sigma model coupled to quarks, we show that the presence of the helical density substantially affects the phase diagram of dense quark matter. A moderate helical density makes the chiral phase transition softer while shifting the critical endpoint towards lower temperatures and higher baryon chemical potentials. As the helical density increases, t…
We calculate the first six non-normalized moments of particle multiplicity within the framework of the hadron resonance gas model. In terms of the lower order moments and corresponding correlation functions, general expressions of higher order moments are derived. Thermal evolution of the first four normalized moments and their products (ratios) are studied at different chemical potentials μ, so that it is possible to evaluate them at chemical freeze out curve. It is found that a non-monotonic behavior, reflecting the dynamical fluctuation and strong correlation of particles starts to appear f…
We investigate effects of the vector interaction on chiral and color superconducting (CSC) phase transitions at finite density and temperature in a simple Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. It is shown that the repulsive density-density interaction coming from the vector term, which is present in the effective chiral models but has been omitted, enhances the competition between the chiral symmerty breaking (chiSB) and CSC phase transition, and thereby makes the thermodynamic potential have a shallow minimum over a wide range of values of the correlated chiral and CSC order parameters. We find that when…
In this contribution the role of quantum fluctuations for the QCD phase diagram is discussed. This concerns in particular the importance of the matter back-reaction to the gluonic sector. The impact of these fluctuations on the location of the confinement/deconfinement and the chiral transition lines as well as their interrelation are investigated. Consequences of our findings for the size of a possible quarkyonic phase and location of a critical endpoint in the phase diagram are drawn.
We explore the critical fluctuations near the chiral critical endpoint (CEP) in a chiral effective model and discuss possible signals of the CEP, recently explored experimentally in nuclear collision. Particular attention is paid to the dependence of such signals on the location of the phase boundary and the CEP relative to the chemical freeze-out conditions in nuclear collisions. We argue that in effective models, standard freeze-out fits to heavy-ion data should not be used directly. Instead, the relevant quantities should be examined on lines in the phase diagram that are defined self-consi…
In this article we study chiral symmetry breaking for quark matter in a magnetic background, $\bm B$, at finite temperature and quark chemical potential, $μ$, making use of the Ginzburg-Landau effective action formalism. As a microscopic model to compute the effective action we use the renormalized quark-meson model. Our main goal is to study the evolution of the critical endpoint, ${\cal CP}$, as a function of the magnetic field strength, and investigate on the realization of inverse magnetic catalysis at finite chemical potential. We find that the phase transition at zero chemical potential …
We investigate the finite temperature QCD phase transition with three degenerate quark flavors using Möbius domain wall fermions. To explore the order of phase transition on the lower left corner of Columbia plot and if possible, to locate the critical endpoint we performed simulations at temperatures around 181 and 121 MeV with lattice spacing $a=0.1361(20)$ fm corresponding to temporal lattice extent $N_τ=8,12$ with varying quark mass for two different volumes with aspect ratios $N_σ/N_τ$ ranging from 2 to 3. By analyzing the volume and mass dependence of the chiral condensate, disconnected …
We investigate effects of the vector interaction appearing in chiral effective Lagrangians on the chiral and color superconducting (CSC) phase transitions using Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. It is shown that the repulsive density-density interaction coming from the vector term enhances competition between the chiral symmerty breaking and CSC phase transition: When the vector coupling is increased, the first order transition between the chiral symmerty breaking and CSC phase becomes weaker, and the coexisting phase in which both the chiral and color-gauge symmetries are dynamically broken comes to …
The Polyakov-extended quark-meson model (PQM) is investigated beyond mean-field. This represents an important step towards a fully dynamical QCD computation. Both the quantum fluctuations to the matter sector and the back-reaction of the matter fluctuations to the QCD Yang-Mills sector are included. Results on the chiral and confinement-deconfinement crossover/phase transition lines and the location of a possible critical endpoint are presented. Moreover, thermodynamic quantities such as the pressure and the quark density are discussed.
