Very high energy gamma ray emission from the active galactic nucleus PG 1553+113 was observed during 2005 and 2006 by the MAGIC collaboration, for a total observation time of 18.8 hours. Here we present the results of follow up observations: more than 20 hours of good quality data collected by the MAGIC Telescope during the 2007 and 2008 campaigns. The obtained spectra are compared and combined with previous measurements, and corrected for absorption adopting different EBL models. Upper limits on the unknown source redshift are derived by assuming the absence of a break in the intrinsic spectrum, or alternatively by constraining the hardness of the intrinsic source spectrum.
MAGIC is currently the most suitable instrument to perform observations of the prompt an early afterglow emission from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) at energies above 25 GeV. The instrument is designed to have the lowest possible energy threshold and fastest reaction time to GRB Coordinates Network (GCN) alerts. The MAGIC-I telescope started to follow-up GCN alerts in the beginning of 2005. Since then, more than 50 GRB candidates were observed. Just now MAGIC-II, the second telescope has started to operate. Both telescopes together will have a factor of three better sensitivity.
In the last couple of years the Magic air Cherenkov telescope has made significant contributions to very high energy $γ$-ray astronomy. These include the detection of the galactic binary system LSI +61 303 and the observation of pulsed emission from the Crab pulsar. Extragalactic objects like the famous FSRQ 3C 279 and the LBL S5 0716+714 have both been detected during optical high states, and the radio galaxy M87 could be observed during an unexpected strong $γ$-ray outburst. We present the first search for signatures of brane-world extra-dimensional dark matter (DM) in the very-high-energy gamma-ray band by scrutinizing observations of the dwarf spheroidal galaxy Segue 1 with the Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) telescope system. Blazars, a class of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) characterized by a close orientation of their relativistic outflows (jets) towards the line of sight, are a well established extragalactic TeV $γ$-ray emitters. Since 2006, three nearby and TeV bright blazars, Markarian (Mrk) 421, Mrk 501 and 1ES 1959+650, are regularly observed by the MAGIC telescope with single exposures of 30 to 60 minutes. The two BL Lac objects 1ES 1215+303 and 1ES 1218+304, separated by 0.8 deg, were observed with the MAGIC telescopes in 2010 and 2011. The 20 hours of data registered in January 2011 resulted in the first detection at Very High Energy (>100 GeV) of 1ES 1215+303 (also known as ON-325). This observation was triggered by a high optical state of the source reported by the Tuorla blazar monitoring program. We present preliminary results on Dark Matter searches from observations of the Perseus galaxy cluster with the MAGIC Telescopes. MAGIC is a system of two Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes located in the Canary island of La Palma, Spain. Galaxy clusters are the largest known gravitationally bound structures in the Universe, with masses of ~10^15 Solar masses. The MAGIC telescope is the largest single-dish Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) with the lowest energy threshold among the current generation of IACTs as low as 25 GeV. Very high energy gamma rays coming from extra-galactic sources can interact with intergalactic radiation fields. This process may result in electromagnetic cascades with the following cycle: the production of electron-positron pairs and then secondary gamma-rays due to inverse Compton scattering. Since electrons and positrons will be scattered in the intergalactic magnetic field, under certain conditions their radiation may be redirected towards the observer. MAGIC comprises two 17m diameter IACTs to be operated in stereo mode. Currently we are commissioning the second telescope, MAGIC II. The camera of the second telescope has been equipped with 1039 pixels of 0.1-degree diameter. Always seven pixels are grouped in a hexagonal configuration to form a cluster. This modular design allows easier control and maintenance of the camera. The pixel sensors are high quantum efficiency photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) from Hamamatsu (superbialkali type, QE ~ 32% at the peak wavelength) that we operate at rather low gain of 30 k. The MAGIC gamma-ray observatory has recently been upgraded by a second Cherenkov telescope at a distance of 85 m from the first one. Simultaneous observation of air showers with the two MAGIC telescopes (stereoscopic mode) will improve the reconstruction of the shower axis and solve the ambiguity in the impact point occurring in single-telescope mode. Also, the stereo observation will result in a better angular resolution, energy estimation and cosmic-ray background rejection. We report on observations of the Crab pulsar with the MAGIC telescopes. Our data were taken in both monoscopic (> 25GeV) and stereoscopic (> 50GeV) observation modes. Two peaks were detected with both modes and phase-resolved energy spectra were calculated. By comparing with Fermi- LAT measurements, we find that the energy spectrum of the Crab pulsar does not follow a power law with an exponential cutoff, but has an additional hard component, extending up to at least 400 GeV. Cosmic electrons with energies in the TeV range lose their energy rapidly through synchrotron radiation and inverse Compton processes, resulting in a relatively short lifetime (~ 10^5 years). They are only visible from comparatively nearby sources (<1 kpc). Unexpected features in their spectrum at a few hundreds GeV, as measured by several experiments (ATIC, Fermi and H.E.S.S. among others), might be caused by local sources such as pulsars or by dark matter annihilation/decay. On January 2, the MAGIC-I Telescope observed GRB090102 (z=1.55) under particularly good observation conditions. Using the recently upgraded MAGIC-1 sum trigger system, upper limits down to below 50 GeV have been obtained. This is the first time that the new trigger system was fully exploited for a Gamma-ray Burst (GRB) observation and shows the capabilities of the MAGIC observatory for future follow-up observations.

Based on MAGIC observations from June and July 2007, we have obtained an integral upper limit to the VHE energy emission of the globular cluster M13 of $F(E>200 \textrm{GeV})<5.1\times10^{-12} \textrm{cm}^{-2} \textrm{s}^{-1}$, and differential upper limits for $E>140 \textrm{GeV}$. Those limits allow us to constrain the population of millisecond pulsars within M13 and to test models for acceleration of leptons inside their magnetospheres and surrounding. We conclude that in M13 either millisecond pulsars are fewer than expected or they accelerate leptons less efficiently than predicted.
In the last few years the Fermi -LAT instrument has detected GeV gamma-ray emission from a few novae. Such GeV emission can be interpreted in terms of an inverse Compton process of electrons accelerated in a shock. It is expected that hadrons can be accelerated in the same conditions, but reaching much higher energies. They can produce a second component in the gamma-ray spectrum at TeV energies. We report on the observations of the Crab pulsar with the MAGIC telesopes. Data were taken both in the mono-mode ($>25$ GeV) and in the stereo-mode ($>50$ GeV). Clear signals from the two peaks were detected with both modes and the phase resolved energy spectra were calculated. By comparing with the measurements done by Fermi-LAT, we found that the energy spectra of the Crab pulsar does not follow a power law with an exponential cutoff, but that it extends as a power law after the break at around 5 GeV. HESS J1857+026 is an extended TeV gamma-ray source discovered by H.E.S.S. very close to the Galactic plane. Located in the vicinity of the pulsar PSR J1856+0245, the source represents a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) candidate. In Fermi-LAT data, 7 photons above 100GeV were associated to it as VHE J1857+0252 by Neronov and Semikoz (2010), while in the previous MeV-GeV catalogs no associated source was reported yet. 3C 66A is an intermediate-frequency peaked BL Lacertae object of uncertain redshift. We report recent observations of the region around the blazar with the MAGIC telescopes. The source was observed and detected in 2009 December and 2010 January, in 2.3 h of good quality data. The signal could clearly be assigned to the blazar 3C 66A, statistically and systematically rejecting the nearby radio galaxy 3C 66B as a possible origin of the gamma-ray signal by 3.6 standard deviations. Microquasars, X-ray binaries displaying relativistic jets driven by accretion onto a compact object, are some of the most efficient accelerators in the Galaxy. Theoretical models predict Very High Energy (VHE) emission at the base of the jet where particles are accelerated to multi-TeV energies. Among more than fifty blazars detected in very high energy (VHE, E>100GeV) gamma-rays, only three belong to the subclass of Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs): PKS 1510-089, PKS 1222+216 and 3C 279. The detection of FSRQs in the VHE range is challenging, mainly because of their steep soft spectra in the GeV-TeV regime. The flat-spectrum radio-quasar 3C279 (z=0.536) is the most distant object detected at very high energy (VHE) gamma-rays. It is thus an important beacon for the study of the interaction of the VHE gamma-rays with the Extra-galactic Background Light (EBL). Previous observations by EGRET showed a highly variable flux that can differ up to a factor of 100. In this paper results from an observation campaign with the MAGIC telescope during an optical flare in January 2007 will be presented and previous MAGIC results from 2006 will be summarized.
The MAGIC I telescope produces currently around 100TByte of raw data per year that is calibrated and reduced on-site at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (La Palma). Since February 2007 most of the data have been stored and further processed in the Port d'Informacio Cientifica (PIC), Barcelona. The MAGIC two 17 meter diameter Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray telescopes have now operated for two years in stereoscopic mode. The performance of the instrument has been evaluated: the integral sensitivity for an energy above 300 GeV is 0.76% crab units (10% Crab units differential sensitivity below 100 GeV) and the analysis threshold energy is 50 GeV. In the last few years the Fermi-LAT instrument has detected GeV gamma-ray emission from several novae. Such GeV emission can be interpreted in terms of inverse Compton emission from electrons accelerated in the shock or in terms of emission from hadrons accelerated in the same conditions. The latter might reach much higher energies and could produce a second component in the gamma-ray spectrum at TeV energies. The MAGIC TeV gamma-ray telescopes have devoted several hundreds hour of observation time in about a decade, to hunt for particle dark matter indirect signatures in gamma rays, from various candidate targets of interest in the sky: the galactic center, satellite galaxies, galaxy clusters and unidentified objects in other bands. We present a systematic search for potential dark matter clumps in our Galaxy among the 630 unassociated sources included in the LAT 1-year Point Source Catalog. Assuming a dark matter particle that generates observable gamma-ray photons beyond the Fermi energy range through self-annihilation, we compile a list of reasonable targets for the MAGIC Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes. Galactic transients, X-ray and gamma-ray binaries provide a proper environment for particle acceleration. This leads to the production of gamma rays with energies reaching the GeV-TeV regime. MAGIC has carried out deep observations of different transient and variable stellar objects of which we highlight 4 of them here: LSI+61 303, MWC 656, Cygnus X-1 and SN 2014J. We present the results of those observations, including long-term monitoring of Cygnus X-1 and LSI+61 303 (7 and 8 years, respectively).
