In many Dark Matter (DM) scenarios, the annihilation of DM particles can produce gamma rays with a continuum spectrum that extends up to very high energies of the order of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale (hundreds of GeV). Astrophysical structures supposed to be dynamically dominated by DM, such as dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies, Galaxy Clusters (the largest ones in the local Universe being mostly observable from the northern hemisphere) and Intermediate Mass Black Holes, can be considered as interesting targets to look for DM annihilation with Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs). Instead, the center of our Galaxy seems to be strongly contaminated with astrophysical sources. The 17m Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC-I) Telescope, situated in the Canary island of La Palma (2200 m a.s.l.), is best suited for DM searches, due to its unique combination of high sensitivity and low energy threshold among current IACTs which can potentially allow to provide clues on the high energy end, and possibly peak, of the gamma-ray DM-induced spectrum constrained at lower energies with the Fermi Space Telescope. The recent results achieved by MAGIC-I for some of the best candidates, as well as the DM detection prospects for the MAGIC Phase II, are reported.
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) is a next-generation observatory for high energy gamma rays and cosmic rays with wide field of view. It will detect gamma rays with high sensitivity in the energy range from 300 GeV to 1 PeV. Therefore, it is promising for LHAASO to search for the high-energy gamma rays induced by dark matter (DM) self-annihilation in dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs), which are ideal objects for the DM indirect detection. In this work, we investigate the LHAASO sensitivity to DM self-annihilation signatures for 19 dSphs and take the uncertainti…
Accretion disk signatures in Type I X-ray Bursts: prospects for future missions
Sensitivity for tau neutrinos at PeV energies and beyond with the MAGIC telescopes
MAGIC望远镜位于Roque de los Muchachos天文台(2200 a.s.l.)。
We present the first search for signatures of brane-world extra-dimensional dark matter (DM) in the very-high-energy gamma-ray band by scrutinizing observations of the dwarf spheroidal galaxy Segue 1 with the Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) telescope system. Branons are new degrees of freedom that appear within flexible brane-world models: they are weakly interacting massive particles and natural DM candidates. The ground-based gamma-ray telescopes MAGIC could indirectly detect branon DM in the multi-TeV mass range by observing secondary products of DM annihilation into Stand…
We investigate gamma-ray emission in the impulsive phase of solar flares and the detectability of non-thermal signatures from protostellar flares. Energetic solar flares emit high-energy gamma rays of GeV energies, but their production mechanism and emission site are still unknown. Young stellar objects, including protostars, also exhibit luminous X-ray flares, but the triggering mechanism of the flaring activity is still unclear due to the strong obscuration. Non-thermal signatures in mm/sub-mm and gamma-ray bands are useful to probe protostellar flares owing to their strong penetration power…
The afterglow emission from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) is believed to originate from a relativistic blast wave driven into the circumburst medium. Although the afterglow emission from radio up to X-ray frequencies is thought to originate from synchrotron radiation emitted by relativistic, non-thermal electrons accelerated by the blast wave, the origin of the emission at high energies (HE; $\gtrsim$~GeV) remains uncertain. The recent detection of sub-TeV emission from GRB~190114C by MAGIC raises further debate on what powers the very high-energy (VHE; $\gtrsim 300$GeV) emission. Here, we explore t…

With the growing interest in indirect detection for dark matter signature, the thesis aims to investigate the signal originating from the self-annihilation of dark matter candidates. The methods for targeting the dark matter signal are two-fold, on one hand, we explore the gamma rays resulting from dark matter particles. On the other hand, we focus on complementary radio properties.
We review the prospects for detecting quark matter in neutron star cores. We survey the proposed signatures and emphasize the importance of data from neutron star mergers, which provide access to dynamical properties that operate on short timescales that are not probed by other neutron star observables.
(also inside: this manuscript introduces the reader to the argument against the existence of magnetic monopoles, which forms an essential part of Staruszkiewicz's Quantum Mechanics of the Electric Charge) Ultra-high energy (UHE) photons with energies exceeding $10^{18}\eV$ can potentially be observed. They are produced in various processes involving electrically charged particles. However, more exotic scenarios are also possible. UHE photons could be emitted in encounters of massive magnetically charged monopole--antimonopole pairs or in processes associated with monopoles accelerated to high …

Cosmological and astrophysical observations suggest that 85\% of the total matter of the Universe is made of Dark Matter (DM). However, its nature remains one of the most challenging and fundamental open questions of particle physics. Assuming particle DM, this exotic form of matter cannot consist of Standard Model (SM) particles. Many models have been developed to attempt unraveling the nature of DM such as Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), the most favored particle candidates. WIMP annihilations and decay could produce SM particles which in turn hadronize and decay to give SM sec…
