Group field theory is a generalization of matrix models, with triangulated pseudomanifolds as Feynman diagrams and state sum invariants as Feynman amplitudes. In this paper, we consider Boulatov's three-dimensional model and its Freidel-Louapre positive regularization (hereafter the BFL model) with a ?ultraviolet' cutoff, and study rigorously their scaling behavior in the large cutoff limit. We prove an optimal bound on large order Feynman amplitudes, which shows that the BFL model is perturbatively more divergent than the former. We then upgrade this result to the constructive level, using, in a self-contained way, the modern tools of constructive field theory: we construct the Borel sum of the BFL perturbative series via a convergent ?cactus' expansion, and establish the ?ultraviolet' scaling of its Borel radius. Our method shows how the ?sum over trian- gulations' in quantum gravity can be tamed rigorously, and paves the way for the renormalization program in group field theory.
In this note we report the results of our study of a 1D integrable spin chain whose critical behaviour is governed by a CFT possessing a continuous spectrum of scaling dimensions. It is argued that the computation of the density of Bethe states of the continuous theory can be reduced to the calculation of the connection coefficients for a certain class of differential equations whose monodromy properties are similar to those of the conventional confluent hypergeometric equation. The finite size corrections to the scaling are also discussed.
The non-equilibrium dynamics of the kinetic spherical model, quenched to T<=T_c, with a non-conserved order-parameter is studied at its upper critical dimension d=d*=4. In the scaling limit where both the waiting time s and the observation time t are large and the ratio y=t/s>1 is fixed, the scaling functions of the two-time autocorrelation and autoresponse functions do not contain any logarithmic correction factors and the typical size of correlated domains scales for large times as L(t) ~ t^0.5 .
O(N) vector sigma models possessing catastrophes in their action are studied. Coupling the limit N --> infinity with an appropriate scaling behaviour of the coupling constants, the partition function develops a singular factor. This is a generalized Airy function in the case of spacetime dimension zero and the partition function of a scalar field theory for positive spacetime dimension.
We explore vacuum degeneracy of Kronecker quiver with large ranks, by computing Witten index of corresponding 1d gauged linear sigma model. For $(d-1,d)_k$ quivers with the intersection number $k$, we actually counted index of its mutation equivalent, $(d,(k-1)d+1)_k$, and find exponentially large behaviour whenever $k\ge 3$. We close with speculation on more general ranks of Kronecker quiver including the nonprimitive cases.
An algorithm for the isolation of any singularity of f-matrix models in the double scaling limit is presented. In particular it is proved by construction that only those universality classes exist that are known from 2-matrix models.
Random non-commutative geometries are a novel approach to taking a non-perturbative path integral over geometries. They were introduced in arxiv.org/abs/1510.01377, where a first examination was performed. During this examination we found that some geometries show indications of a phase transition. In this article we explore this phase transition further for geometries of type $(1,1)$, $(2,0)$, and $(1,3)$. We determine the pseudo critical points of these geometries and explore how some of the observables scale with the system size. We also undertake first steps towards understanding the criti…
We study the scaling behaviour of the optical conductivity $(σ)$, free energy density $(F)$, and shear viscosity of the quantum critical point associated with the spin density wave phase transition for a two-dimensional metallic system with $C_2$ symmetry. A non-Fermi liquid behaviour emerges at two pairs of isolated points on the Fermi surface, due to the coupling of a bosonic order parameter to fermionic excitations at those so-called ``hot-spots''. We find that near the hot-spots, $σ$ and $F$ obey the scalings expected for such an anisotropic system, and the direction-dependent viscosity to…
Stability of the Higgs vacuum during early universe inflation is dependent on how the Higgs couples to the spacetime curvature. Limits on the curvature coupling parameter at the electroweak scale $ξ_{EW}$ are shown to be consistent only when quantum gravity effects are included and a covariant quantisation procedure, such as Vilkovisky-DeWitt, is adopted. Stability requires $ξ_{EW}>-0.03$ for a top quark mass $M_t=173.34\,{\rm GeV}$.
The infrared behaviour of the n-point functions of a Yang-Mills theory with a charged scalar field in the fundamental representation of SU(N) is studied in the formalism of Dyson-Schwinger equations. Assuming a stable skeleton expansion solutions in form of power laws for the Green functions are obtained. For a massless scalar field the uniform limit is sufficient to describe the infrared scaling behaviour of vertices. Not taking into account a possible Higgs-phase it turns out that kinematic singularities play an important role for the scaling solutions of massive scalars. On a qualitative le…
We study the thermodynamical and geometrical behaviour of the black holes that arise as solutions of the heterotic string action. We discuss the near-horizon scaling behaviour of the solutions that are described by two-dimensional Anti-de Sitter Space AdS(2). We find that finite-energy excitations of AdS(2) are suppressed only for scaling limits characterised by a dilaton which is constant near the horizon, whereas this suppression does not occur when the dilaton is non constant.
We study the effects of a power-law trapping potential on the scaling behaviour of the entanglement at the quantum critical point of one-dimensional (1D) lattice particle systems. We compute bipartite von Neumann and Renyi entropies in the presence of the trap, and analyze their scaling behaviour with increasing the trap size. As a theoretical laboratory, we consider the quantum XY chain in an external transverse field acting as a trap for the spinless fermions of its quadratic Hamiltonian representation. We then investigate confined particle systems described by the 1D Bose-Hubbard model in t…
We show that the improper ferroelectric phase transition in the multiferroic hexagonal manganites displays the same symmetry-breaking characteristics as those proposed in early-universe theories. We present an analysis of the Kibble-Zurek theory of topological defect formation applied to the hexagonal manganites, discuss the conditions determining the range of cooling rates in which Kibble-Zurek behavior is expected, and show that recent literature data are consistent with our predictions. We explore experimentally for the first time to our knowledge the cross-over out of the Kibble-Zurek regi…
We study a multi-matrix model whose low temperature phase is a fuzzy sphere that undergoes an evaporation transition as the temperature is increased. We investigate finite size scaling of the system as the limiting temperature of stability of the fuzzy sphere phase is approached. We find on theoretical grounds that the system should obey scaling with specific heat exponent α=1/2, shift exponent \bar λ=4/3 and that the peak in the specific heat grows with exponent \bar ω=2/3. Using hybrid Monte Carlo simulations we find good collapse of specific heat data consistent with a scaling ansatz which …
We develop a field theoretical approach to the cold interstellar medium (ISM). We show that a non-relativistic self-gravitating gas in thermal equilibrium with variable number of atoms or fragments is exactly equivalent to a field theory of a single scalar field ϕ({\vec x}) with exponential self interaction. We analyze this field theory perturbatively and non-perturbatively through the renormalization group approach. We show scaling behaviour(critical) for a continuous range of the temperature and of the other physical parameters. We derive in this framework the scaling relation Delta M(R) \sim …
While it is possible to introduce quantum group symmetry into the framework of quantum mechanics, the general problem of how to implement quantum group symmetry into $(3+1)$ dimensional quantum field theory has not yet been solved. Here we try to estimate some features of the behaviour of bosonic modes.
Numerically we simulate the short-time behaviour of the critical dynamics for the two dimensional Ising model and Potts model with an initial state of very high temperature and small magnetization. Critical initial increase of the magnetization is observed. The new dynamic critical exponent $θ$ as well as the exponents $z$ and $2β/ν$ are determined from the power law behaviour of the magnetization, auto-correlation and the second moment. Furthermore the calculation has been carried out with both Heat-bath and Metropolis algorithms. All the results are consistent and therefore universality and …
We show that strongly-coupled, translation-invariant holographic IR phases at finite density can be classified according to the scaling behaviour of the metric, the electric potential and the electric flux introducing four critical exponents, independently of the details of the setup. Solutions fall into two classes, depending on whether they break relativistic symmetry or not. The critical exponents determine key properties of these phases, like thermodynamic stability, the (ir)relevant deformations around them, the low-frequency scaling of the optical conductivity and the nature of the spect…
The O(n) loop model on the honeycomb lattice with mixed ordinary and special boundary conditions is solved exactly by means of the Bethe ansatz. The calculation of the dominant finite-size corrections to the eigenspectrum yields the mixed boundary scaling index and the geometric scaling dimensions describing the universal surface critical behaviour. Exact results follow in the limit n=0 for the polymer adsorption transition with a mixed adsorbing and free boundary. These include the new configurational exponent $γ_1=\frac{85}{64}$.
We investigate the thermal QCD phase transition and its scaling properties on the lattice. The simulations are performed with $N_f=2+1+1$ Wilson twisted mass fermions at pion masses from physical up to heavy quark regime. We introduce a novel chiral order parameter, which is free from linear mass contributions and turns out to be very useful for the study of scaling behaviour. Our results are compatible with $O(4)$ universal scaling for the physical pion mass and the temperature range $[120:300]$ MeV. Violations to scaling at larger masses and other possible scenarios, including mean field beh…
The behaviour of a d-dimensional vectorial N=3 model at a m-axial Lifshitz critical point is investigated by means of a nonperturbative renormalization group approach that is free of the huge technical difficulties that plague the perturbative approaches and limit their computations to the lowest orders. In particular being systematically improvable, our approach allows us to control the convergence of successive approximations and thus to get reliable physical quantities in d=3.
