We have analysed 1455 fundamental mode RR Lyrae stars of the Galactic field, using the All Sky Automated Survey (ASAS) data. The sample covers 75% of the sky and contains objects in the close neighbourhood of the Sun, within 4 kpc distance. Unlike in the previous analysis of the close field RRab, we see a clear manifestation of the Oosterhoff groups on the period - amplitude diagram. The relation for Oosterhoff I type variables becomes strongly flattened at large V amplitudes, which was not observed for globular cluster RR Lyrae. We calculate photometric metallicities using two available methods: one of Jurcsik & Kovacs (1996) and the other of Sandage (2004). We find significant discrepancies between results from both methods. Comparison with spectroscopic metallicities undoubtedly favors the method of Jurcsik & Kovacs (1996). In addition, we notice that RRab of Oosterhoff II type might follow a different metallicity-period-phase relation than Oosterhoff I type variables. The spatial distribution of Galactic field RRab does not show any metallicity gradients with distance from the Galactic Center in either of the Oosterhoff groups. However, both the older, metal poor Oosterhoff II variables and the metal rich Oosterhoff I RRab become more concentrated to the Galactic plane with increasing metal content.
Accurate metallicities of RR Lyrae are extremely important in constraining period-luminosity-metallicity relationships (PLZ), particularly in the near-infrared. We analyse 69 high-resolution spectra of Galactic RR Lyrae stars from the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT). We measure metallicities of 58 of these RR Lyrae stars with typical uncertainties of 0.13 dex. All but one RR Lyrae in this sample has accurate (σ_parallax ~ 10%) parallax from Gaia. Combining these new high resolution spectroscopic abundances with similar determinations from the literature for 93 stars, we present new PLZ…
Homogeneous metallicities and continuous high-precision light curves play key roles in studying the pulsation properties of RR Lyrae stars. By cross-matching with LAMOST DR6, we have determined 7 and 50 Non-Blazhko RRab stars in the Kepler and K2 fields, respectively, who have homogeneous metallicities determined from low-resolution spectra of the LAMOST-Kepler/K2 project. The Fourier Decomposition method is applied to the light curves of these stars provided by the Kepler space based telescope to determine the fundamental pulsation periods and the pulsation parameters. The calculated amplitud…
Recent surveys have detected RR Lyrae stars in M33, the Triangulum Galaxy. These variable stars are excellent tracers of ancient stellar populations. The RR Lyrae stars have been used to estimate metallicities at various locations within M33, as well as determining the distance to the galaxy. A summary of the M33 RR Lyrae stars is presented here as well as an analysis on what their properties imply for the unique M33 galaxy

We present HST/ACS observations of RR Lyrae variable stars in six ultra deep fields of the Andromeda galaxy (M31), including parts of the halo, disk, and giant stellar stream. Past work on the RR Lyrae stars in M31 has focused on various aspects of the stellar populations that make up the galaxy's halo, including their distances and metallicities. This study builds upon this previous work by increasing the spatial coverage (something that has been lacking in previous studies) and by searching for these variable stars in constituents of the galaxy not yet explored. Besides the 55 RR Lyrae stars…
We present new period-$ϕ_{31}$-[Fe/H] relations for first overtone RRL stars (RRc), calibrated over a broad range of metallicities ($-2.5 < \textrm{[Fe/H]}< 0.0$) utilizing the largest currently available set of Galactic halo field RRL with homogeneous spectroscopic metallicities. Our relations are defined in the optical (ASAS-SN $V$-band) and, inaugurally, in the infrared (WISE $W1$ and $W2$ bands). Our $V$-band relation can reproduce individual RRc spectroscopic metallicities with a dispersion of 0.30 dex over the entire metallicity range of our calibrator sample (an RMS smaller than what we…
We present our results of searching for differences in light curves of modulated and non-modulated RRab stars in the Galactic bulge. We examined a sample of more than 8000 stars. The most important results are that Blazhko stars have shorter pulsation periods, less skewed mean light curves, lower mean amplitudes, larger rise-time, no difference in spatial distribution and metallicity.
We present for the first time a detailed spectroscopic study of chemical element abundances of metal-poor RR Lyrae stars in the Large and Small Magellanic Cloud (LMC and SMC). Using the MagE echelle spectrograph at the 6.5m Magellan telescopes, we obtain medium resolution (R ~ 2000 - 6000) spectra of six RR Lyrae stars in the LMC and three RR Lyrae stars in the SMC. These stars were chosen because their previously determined photometric metallicities were among the lowest metallicities found for stars belonging to the old populations in the Magellanic Clouds. We find the spectroscopic metallic…
The MACHO Project collected photometry of many RR Lyrae stars from its observations of the Milky Way's bulge. We examined the lightcurves of 3256 stars identified as RRab Lyr variables by \cite{Kund2008}, subtracting an empirical model of the pulsation lightcurve and searching for periodic variation in the residuals. There are no systems which show the brief dips in light characteristic of detached eclipsing binary systems. We discuss the results for objects which show the largest residual periodic modulation, most of which are probably due to aliases of the fundamental period.
We present newly-calibrated period-$ϕ_{31}$-[Fe/H] relations for fundamental mode RR Lyrae stars in the optical and, for the first time, mid-infrared. This work's calibration dataset provides the largest and most comprehensive span of parameter space to date with homogeneous metallicities from $-3<\textrm{[Fe/H]}<0.4$ and accurate Fourier parameters derived from 1980 ASAS-SN ($V$-band) and 1083 WISE (NEOWISE extension, $W1$ and $W2$ bands) RR Lyrae stars with well-sampled light curves. We compare our optical period-$ϕ_{31}$-[Fe/H] with those available in the literature and demonstrate that our…
We analysed the light curve of four, apparently extremely metal-rich fundamental-mode RR Lyrae stars. We identified two stars, MT Tel and ASAS J091803-3022.6 as RRc (first-overtone) pulsators that were misclassified as RRab ones in the ASAS survey. In the case of the other two stars, V397 Gem and ASAS J075127-4136.3, we could not decide conclusively, as they are outliers in the period-Fourier-coefficient space from the loci of both classes, but their photometric metallicities also favour the RRc classification.
On the basis of an extended set of nonlinear convective RR Lyrae pulsation models we derive the first theoretical light curves in the Gaia bands and the corresponding intensity-weighted mean magnitudes and pulsation amplitudes. The effects of chemical com-position on the derived Bailey diagrams in the Gaia filters are discussed for both Fundamental and First Overtone mode pulsators. The inferred mean magnitudes and colors are used to derive the first theoretical Period-Wesenheit relations for RR Lyrae in the Gaia filters. The application of the theoretical Period-Wesenheit relations for both t…
We present an analysis of the period-$V$-amplitude plane for RR0 Lyrae stars (fundamental mode pulsators) with "normal" light curves in the bulge using the MACHO bulge fields. Although bulge globular clusters have RR Lyraes that divide into two reasonable distinct groups according to the average period of the RR0 Lyraes (Oosterhoff 1939), there is no evidence of a gap between Oosterhoff I and II stars in the bulge field star sample. The majority of the bulge RR0 Lyrae field star population have a difference in period compared to the Oosterhoff I cluster M3 (Delta log P) that is shifted by abou…
We present 20 newly discovered candidates for binary systems with an RR~Lyrae companion. Using the photometric data from the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) and Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) for the Galactic bulge, we searched for binary candidates among non-modulated fundamental-mode RR~Lyrae variables. We constructed and investigated over 9000 $O-C$ diagrams for individual pulsators, in order to find signs of the light-travel time effect. We found 20 variables exhibiting cyclic variation in the $O-C$ (time of the observed minus calculated brightness maximum) d…
We analyzed photometry for the up-to-date collection of the first-overtone RR Lyrae stars (RRc; 11415 stars) and double-mode RR Lyrae stars (RRd; 148 stars) towards the Galactic bulge from the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. We analyzed frequency spectra of these stars in search for additional, low-amplitude signals, beyond the radial modes. We focused on stars from two groups: $RR_{0.61}$ and $RR_{0.68}$. In the first group, additional low-amplitude signals have periods shorter than the first-overtone period; period ratios fall in the 0.60-0.64 range. In the second group, additional…
We present a careful and detailed light curve analysis of publicly available $I$-band data on fundamental mode RR Lyrae (RRab) stars of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) obtained by the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) phase-III project. Using the Fourier parameters of $13,095$ RRab stars, metallicities and absolute magnitudes of individual stars are obtained. The representation of stars on the $P-ϕ_{31}^{V}$ plane shows the existence of three significant metallicity groups with mean metallicities as $-1.20 \pm 0.12$ dex, $-1.57 \pm 0.10$ dex and $-1.89 \pm 0.09$ dex. The corresp…
42 RRab, 46 RRc and 7 previously unidentified double-mode RR Lyrae stars were found in the publicly available data of the WASP archive. The Galactic double-mode RR Lyrae stars appear to show a bimodal period distribution.
We have begun developing a new metallicity calibration for RR Lyrae stars that includes high-temperature phase regions. Our calibration is an updated and expanded version of the Delta-S, equivalent width method, but which is applicable for most phases of the pulsation, and for the hotter, shorter-period RRc stars. This calibration will be constructed from spectral observations of well studied, bright RR Lyrae stars with metallicities from published high-resolution studies, within the range $-2.5 < [Fe/H] < -0.3$. Phase information for our calibration stars were taken from the AAVSO website, an…
We present the results of our new study of known RR Lyrae variable stars. All observations available for these stars in the Catalina Surveys were analyzed, and double-mode variations were identified. We studied the Petersen diagram and period distribution for the double-mode RR Lyrae variables in the Galactic field, pulsating in the first-overtone and fundamental modes. The double-peaked character of the period distribution was detected for Galactic RR(B) stars, corresponding to Oosterhoff's classes of globular clusters, which indicates that the age and evolution stage of RR(B) stars in the fi…
We report on the RR Lyrae variable star, MACHO 176.18833.411, located toward the Galactic bulge and observed within the data from the ongoing Bulge RR Lyrae Radial Velocity Assay (BRAVA-RR), which has the unusual radial velocity of -372 +- 8 km/s and true space velocity of -482 +- 22 km/s relative to the Galactic rest frame. Located less than 1 kpc from the Galactic center and toward a field at (l,b)=(3,-2.5), this pulsating star has properties suggesting it belongs to the bulge RR Lyrae star population yet a velocity indicating it is abnormal, at least with respect to bulge giants and red clu…
We present the first paper of a series focused on the Blazhko effect in RR Lyrae type stars pulsating in the fundamental mode, that are located in the Galactic bulge. A~comprehensive overview about the incidence rate and light-curve characteristics of the Blazhko stars is given. We analysed 8\,282 stars having the best quality data in the OGLE-IV survey, and found that at least $40.3$\,\% of stars show modulation of their light curves. The number of Blazhko stars we identified is 3\,341, which is the largest sample ever studied implying the most relevant statistical results currently available…
The number of stars observed by the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) project in the Galactic bulge offers an invaluable chance to study RR Lyrae stars in a statistical manner. We used data of 3141 fundamental-mode RR Lyrae stars showing the Blazhko effect observed in OGLE-IV to investigate a possible connection between modulation amplitudes and periods, light curve and pulsation characteristics. We found that there is no simple monotonic correlation between any combination of two parameters concerning the Blazhko and pulsation amplitudes, periods and the shape of the light curve…
We briefly discuss three cases of RR~Lyrae variable stars with Blazhko modulation from the OGLE Galactic bulge collection. In one of the discussed stars modulation with two periods is detected, in other star, we detect three Blazhko modulations.
We present a multi-wavelength compilation of new and previously-published photometry for 55 Galactic field RR Lyrae variables. Individual studies, spanning a time baseline of up to 30 years, are self-consistently phased to produce light curves in 10 photometric bands covering the wavelength range from 0.4 to 4.5 microns. Data smoothing via the GLOESS technique is described and applied to generate high-fidelity light curves, from which mean magnitudes, amplitudes, rise-times, and times of minimum and maximum light are derived. 60,000 observations were acquired using the new robotic Three-hundre…
Non-radial modes are excited in classical pulsators, both in Cepheids and in RR Lyrae stars. Firm evidence come from the first overtone pulsators, in which additional shorter period mode is detected with characteristic period ratio falling in between 0.60 and 0.65. In the case of first overtone Cepheids three separate sequences populated by nearly 200 stars are formed in the Petersen diagram, i.e. the diagram of period ratio versus longer period. In the case of first overtone RR Lyrae stars (RRc stars) situation is less clear. A dozen or so such stars are known which form a clump in the Peters…
We present the analysis of the Blazhko effect - quasi-periodic modulation of pulsation amplitude and/or phase - in the Galactic bulge first overtone RR Lyrae stars (RRc). We used the data gathered during the fourth phase of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE). Out of 10 826 analyzed RRc stars, Blazhko effect was detected in 607 stars which constitute 5.6 percent of the sample. It is the largest and most homogeneous sample of modulated RRc stars analyzed so far. Modulation periods cover a wide range, from slightly above 2 d to nearly 3000 d. Multiperiodic modulation was detected…
We report the first extensive model atmosphere and detailed chemical abundance study of eight RR Lyrae variable stars of c subclass throughout their pulsation cycles. Atmospheric parameters effective temperature, surface gravity, microturbulent velocity, and metallicity have been derived. Spectra for this abundace analysis have been obtained with the echelle spectrograph of 100-inch du Pont telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. We have found metallicities and element abundance ratios to be constant within observational uncertainties at all phases of all stars. Moreover, the $α$-element and Fe…
We present a calibration of the metallicity and physical parameters (temperature, luminosity, gravity, mass, radius) for RR Lyrae stars using the ugriz SDSS photometric system. Our work is based on calculations of synthetic horizontal branches (HBs), fully taking into account evolutionary effects for a wide range in metallicities and HB morphologies. We provide analytical fits that are able to provide all quantities mentioned with very high (internal) precision, based solely on mean SDSS magnitudes and colors.
The additional signals observed in the frequency spectra of the first-overtone RR Lyrae stars, that form a period ratio around 0.61 with the period of the first overtone, are a common phenomenon for RRc and RRd stars, as well as for first-overtone classical Cepheids. The recently proposed model explains these signals as harmonics of non-radial modes of degrees 8 or 9 in the case of RR Lyrae stars and 7, 8, or 9 in the case of classical Cepheids. We selected at least triple-mode RR Lyrae stars pulsating in radial and non-radial modes for asteroseismic modeling. We assume the identification of t…
We report the first estimate of the He abundance of the population of RR Lyrae stars in the Galactic bulge. This is done by comparing the recent observational data with the latest models. We use the large samples of ab type RR Lyrae stars found by OGLE IV in the inner bulge and by the VVV survey in the outer bulge. We present the result from the new models computed by Marconi et al. (2017), showing that the minimum Period for fundamental RR Lyrae pulsators depends on the He content. By comparing these models with the observations in a Period versus effective temperature plane, we find that the…
Deep near-IR images from the VISTA Variables in the Vía Láctea (VVV) Survey were used to search for RR Lyrae stars in the Southern Galactic plane. A sizable sample of 404 RR Lyrae of type ab stars was identified across a thin slice of the 4$^{\rm th}$ Galactic quadrant ($295°< l < 350°$, $-2.24°< b < -1.05°$). The sample's distance distribution exhibits a maximum density that occurs at the bulge tangent point, which implies that this primarily Oosterhoff type I population of RRab stars does not trace the bar delineated by their red clump counterparts. The bulge RR Lyrae population does not ext…
The wide-field synoptic sky surveys, known as the Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) and the intermediate Palomar Transient Factory (iPTF), will accumulate a large number of known and new RR Lyrae. These RR Lyrae are good tracers to study the substructure of the Galactic halo if their distance, metallicity, and galactocentric velocity can be measured. Candidates of halo RR Lyrae can be identified from their distance and metallicity before requesting spectroscopic observations for confirmation. This is because both quantities can be obtained via their photometric light curves, because the absolute…
We present a kinematical study of 314 RR~Lyrae stars in the solar neighbourhood using the publicly available photometric, spectroscopic, and {\it Gaia} DR2 astrometric data to explore their distribution in the Milky Way. We report an overdensity of 22 RR~Lyrae stars in the solar neighbourhood at a pericenter distance of between 5--9\,kpc from the Galactic center. Their orbital parameters and their chemistry indicate that these 22 variables share the kinematics and the [Fe/H] values of the Galactic disc, with an average metallicity and tangential velocity of [Fe/H]=$-0.60$\,dex and $v_θ = 241$\…
The serendipitous discovery by Preston and colleagues of the neutron-capture-enhanced RR Lyrae variable star TY Gru (a.k.a. CS 22881-071 in the "HK" survey of very metal-poor halo stars) has resulted in a growing set of initiatives on the chemical compositions of RR Lyrae stars and their application to broader topics in Galactic halo structure. Here we summarize the main aspects of our work on TY Gru, including a new discussion of our search for possible orbital motion of this star around a putative unseen companion. Then we describe a few of the results of a newly-completed intensive spectros…
We analyse the OGLE-IV photometry of the first overtone and double-mode RR Lyrae stars (RRc/RRd) in the two fields towards the Galactic bulge observed with high cadence. In 27 per cent of RRc stars we find additional non-radial mode, with characteristic period ratio, P x /P 1O \in (0.6, 0.64). It strongly corroborates the conclusion arising from the analysis of space photometry of RRc stars, that this form of pulsation must be common. In the Petersen diagram the stars form three sequences. In 20 stars we find two or three close secondary modes simultaneously. The additional modes are clearly n…
RR Lyrae stars are useful chemical tracers thanks to the empirical relationship between their heavy-element abundance and the shape of their light curves. However, the consistent and accurate calibration of this relation across multiple photometric wavebands has been lacking. We have devised a new method for the metallicity estimation of fundamental-mode RR Lyrae stars in the Gaia optical $G$ and near-infrared VISTA $K_s$ wavebands by deep learning. First, an existing metallicity prediction method is applied to large photometric data sets, which are then used to train long short-term memory re…
B, V, i, and z bandpass observations were collected in late 2020 for three RRab type stars: UU Ceti, UW Gruis, and W Tucanae. The period-luminosity (PL) relationships of Catalen et al. (2004) and Caceres \& Catelan (2008) were applied to derive distances. These were found to be in reasonable agreement with the Gaia Early DR3 distances, lending confidence to use of the PL relationships. Fourier decompositions were applied to data from the TESS space telescope to derive, using stepwise linear regression, an empirical relationship between terms of the decomposition and the pulsation period with m…
The LAMOST spectroscopic survey for Galactic structure and evolution has been in operation since October 2012, following a one-year pilot survey. The pilot survey produced a data release containing over 600,000 stellar spectra. By cross-checking with a large time series photometric database of RR Lyrae stars in high Galactic latitude regions, we found a total number of 157 stars that have been observed with LAMOST. In this sample, we successfully captured three RR Lyrae stars in the fast expansion phase, all of them showing significant hypersonic shock wave features in the spectra. By fitting …
We analyze Galactic, Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud Cepheids and RR Lyrae variables in terms of period-color (PC) and amplitude-color (AC) diagrams at the phases of maximum and minimum light. We compiled Galactic Cepheids $V$- and $I$-band data from the literature. We make use of optical bands light curve data from OGLE-III survey for Cepheids and RR Lyrae variables in the Magellanic Clouds. We apply the $F$-statistical test to check the significance of any variation in the slope of PC and AC relations for Cepheid variables. The PC relation at maximum light for Galactic Ceph…
We present some recent findings concerning the use of RR Lyrae as distance indicators and stellar tracers. We outline pros and cons of field and cluster RR Lyrae stars and discuss recent theoretical findings concerning the use of the Bailey (amplitude vs pulsation period) diagram to constrain the possible occurrence of Helium enhanced RR Lyrae stars. Nonlinear, convective RR Lyrae models indicate that the pulsation properties of RR Lyrae stars are minimally affected by the helium content. The main difference between canonical and He enhanced models is due to the increase in luminosity predicte…
Context. The multiplicity of classical Cepheids (CCs) and RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) is still imperfectly known, particularly for RRLs. Aims. In order to complement the close-in short orbital period systems presented in Paper I, our aim is to detect the wide, spatially resolved companions of the targets of our reference samples of Galactic CCs and RRLs. Methods. Angularly resolved common proper motion pairs were detected using a simple progressive selection algorithm to separate the most probable candidate companions from the unrelated field stars. Results. We found 27 resolved, high probability gr…
Classical Cepheids (CCs) and RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) are important classes of variable stars used as standard candles to estimate galactic and extragalactic distances. Their multiplicity is imperfectly known, particularly for RRLs. Astoundingly, to date only one RRL has convincingly been demonstrated to be a binary, TU UMa, out of tens of thousands of known RRLs. Our aim is to detect the binary and multiple stars present in a sample of Milky Way CCs and RRLs. In the present article, we combine the Hipparcos and Gaia DR2 positions to determine the mean proper motion of the targets, and we search …
Understanding the structure, formation and evolution of the Galactic Bulge requires the proper determination of spatial metallicity gradients in both the radial and vertical directions. RR Lyrae pulsators, known to be excellent distance indicators, may hold the key to determining these gradients. Jurcsik & Kovacs (1996) has shown that RR Lyrae light curves and the phase difference of their Fourier decomposition, ϕ31, can be used to estimate photometric metallicities. The existence of galactic bulge metallicity gradients is a currently debated topic that would help pinpoint the Galaxy's formati…
New R-band observations of 21 local field RR Lyrae variable stars are used to explore the reliability of minimum light (V-R) colors as a tool for measuring interstellar reddening. For each star, R-band intensity mean magnitudes and light amplitudes are presented. Corresponding V-band light curves from the literature are supplemented with the new photometry, and (V-R) colors at minimum light are determined for a subset of these stars as well as for other stars in the literature. Two different definitions of minimum light color are examined, one which uses a Fourier decomposition to the V and R …
Classical variables like RR Lyrae, classical and Type-II Cepheids and Mira variables all follow period-luminosity relations that make them interesting as distance indicators. Especially the RR Lyrae and delta Cepheids are crucial in establishing the distance scale in the Universe, and all classes of variables can be used as tracers of galactic structure. I will present an overview of recent period-luminosity relations and review the work that has been done using the Gaia DR1 data so far, and discuss possibilities for the future
RR~Lyrae variables are widely used tracers of Galactic halo structure and kinematics, but they can also serve to constrain the distribution of the old stellar population in the Galactic bulge. With the aim of improving their near-infrared photometric characterization, we investigate their near-infrared light curves, as well as the empirical relationships between their light curve and metallicities using machine learning methods. We introduce a new, robust method for the estimation of the light-curve shapes, and hence the average magnitudes of RR~Lyrae variables in the $K_\mathrm{S}$ band, by u…
In this article, we present results based on high-density, high-precision Wide-Angle Search for Planets (WASP) light curves supplemented with lower-precision photometry from the All-Sky Automated Survey (ASAS) for 268 RR Lyrae stars (176 regular, 92 Blazhko). Light curves were Fourier-decomposed and coefficients from WASP were transformed to the ASAS standard using 24 common stars. Coefficients were then compared with similar data from Galactic globular clusters, the Galactic bulge and the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC). Using Fourier coefficients, we also calculated physical …
Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars are important pulsating variable stars in distance scale work because they serve as standard candles. Cepheids follow well-defined period-luminosity (PL) relations defined for bands extending from optical to mid-infrared (MIR). On the other hand, RR Lyrae stars also exhibit PL relations in the near-infrared and MIR wavelengths. In this article, we review some of the recent developments and calibrations of PL relations for Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars. For Cepheids, we discuss the calibration of PL relations via the Galactic and the Large Magellanic Cloud routes. For …
V473 Lyrae is a peculiar Galactic Cepheid, showing strong amplitude modulation that resembles the Blazhko-effect observed in RR Lyrae stars. We collected data spanning several modulation cycles and started a detailed analysis. The first results indicate that the star shows both amplitude and phase modulations with an average period of 1204 days, but both the cycle length and the strength of the modulation are subjected to considerable variations. A possible quintuplet component in the Fourier spectrum and additional period changes were also detected.
The surface gravities and effective temperatures have been added to a compilative catalog published earlier, which includes the relative abundances of several chemical elements for 100 field RR Lyrae stars. These atmoshperic parameters and evolutionary tracks from the Dartmouth database are used to determine the masses of the stars and perform a comparative analysis of the properties of RR Lyrae stars with different chemical compositions. The masses of metal-rich ($\rm{[Fe/H]}> -0.5$) RR Lyrae stars with thin disk kinematics are in the range $(0.51-0.60)M_{\odot}$. Only stars with initial mass…
We present a catalog of 5,290 RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) with metallicities estimated from spectra of the LAMOST Experiment for Galactic Understanding and Exploration (LEGUE) and the Sloan Extension for Galactic Understanding and Exploration (SEGUE) surveys. Nearly 70 per cent of them (3,642 objects) also have systemic radial velocities measured. Given the pulsating nature of RRLs, metallicity estimates are based on spectra of individual exposures, by matching them with the synthetic templates. The systemic radial velocities are measured by fitting the observed velocity as a function of phase assum…
