In Xu and Kuang (\textit{J. Phys. A: Math. Gen.} 39 (2006) L191), the authors claim that, for single-mode excited entangled coherent states $| Ψ_{\pm}(α,m)>$, \textquotedblleft the photon excitations lead to the decrease of the concurrence in the strong field regime of $| α| ^{2}$ and the concurrence tends to zero when $| α| ^{2}\to \infty$". This is wrong.
When basic tools of quantum information are applied to the quantum tomography data presented in Nature 439, 179 (2006), none of their devices appears to be a source of entangled photons.
Recently, Li. \emph{et. al.} [Int. J. Theor. Phys., 48, 2777 (2009)] derived a necessary and sufficient condition for LOCC cloning of a set of bipartite orthogonal partially but equally entangled state. We demonstrates that, the result is based on a wrong observation regarding a set of non-maximally entangled states with equal entanglement. We also provide a simple example in favor of our comment.
A discussion on the robustness of continuous-variable entangled states under noisy environment is briefly given in direct relation to Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 100503 (2010).
Recently Eibl et al. [PRL 92, 077901 (2004)] reported the experimental observation of the three-photon polarization-entangled W state. In this Comment we point out that, actually, the particular measurements involved in the experiment testing Mermin's inequality cannot be used for the verification of the existence of genuinely quantal tripartite correlations in the observed state, and therefore this state cannot conclusively be identified with the W state.
In a recent Brief Report, Lee et al. [L. Lee, D. Ahn, and S.W. Hwang, Phys. Rev. A 66, 024304 (2002)] have claimed that using pairwise entangled qubits gives rise to an exponentially more efficient dense coding when two parties are involved than using maximally entangled qubits shared among N parties. Here, we show that their claim is not true.
A recent theoretical paper [1] proposes a scheme for entanglement swapping utilizing acousto-optic modulators without requiring a Bell-state measurement. In this comment, we show that the proposal is flawed and no entanglement swapping can occur without measurement.
In a recent Brief Report, Zheng [S-B. Zheng, PRA 66, 014103 (2002)] has given a proof of nonlocality without using inequalities for three spin-1/2 particles in the nonmaximally entangled state |psi> = cosθ|+++> + i sinθ|-->. Here we show that Zheng's proof is not correct. Indeed it is the case that, for the experiment considered by Zheng, the only state that admits a nonlocality proof without inequalities is the maximally entangled state.
In the paper [1], authors claim that the scheme for entanglement swapping using an acoustic-optical modulator [2] is flaw. In this reply, we show there is a trivial mistake in the scheme [2], but the main conclusion is still correct, that is, the acoustic-optical modulator can be used to manipulate the frequency-entangled state.
The degree of entanglement between two spins may change due to interaction. About this we find that a wrong result in a recent work by Ge and Wadati [Phys. Rev. A {\bf72}, 052101(2005)] which breach the basic principle.
The ability of parameter recently proposed by Sorensen et al. (Nature, 409, 63 (2001)) to characterize entanglement or inseparability is investigated for a system of two two-level atoms interacting with a single mode of radiation field. For comparison we employ the necessary and sufficient criterion of Peres and Horodecki for inseparability of bipartite states. We show that for diagonal atomic density matrix the parameter of Sorensen et al. fails to show entangled nature of collective atomic state whereas same state is inseparable in accordance with Peres-Horodecki criterion.
We introduce two types of two-mode excited entangled coherent states (TMEECSs) $|Ψ_{\pm}(α,m,n)>$, study their entanglement characteristics, and investigate the influence of photon excitations on quantum entanglement. It is shown that for the state $|Ψ_{+}(α,m,n)>$ the two-mode photon excitations affect seriously entanglement character while the the state $|Ψ_{-}(α,m,n)>$ is always a maximally entangled state. We show how such states can be produced by using cavity QED and quantum measurements. It is found that the entanglement amount of the TMEECSs is larger than that of the single-mode excit…
We correct a mistake in a result reported in [PRA 64, 062106 (2001)], where it is rightfully argued that initial correlations between a system and its environment may render the system reduced dynamics not completely positive. We prove how not only these initial correlations but also the specific joint dynamics does play a significant role in the question of the complete positivy of the reduced dynamics.
In a recent article Giustina et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 250401 (2015)] report on an advanced Bell experiment, simultaneously closing loopholes for local hidden-variable theories. The authors claim that 'local realism' has been refuted, unless 'truly exotic hypotheses' are made. Here I argue that a particularly wide and natural class of local hidden-variable theories survives, for instance when the hidden variables describe a background field. Such background-based theories exploit the freedom-of-choice loophole, which cannot be closed for this type of hidden variables. The dynamics of such …
We propose a physical scheme to generate entangled light at high temperatures through the excitation of vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field using periodic modulations of a refractive index of a ring resonator. We consider the processes of dissipation and decoherence resulting from the coupling of the system with an environment at finite temperature and show that the total amount of entanglement generated does not depend on the temperature, which only affects the time necessary for the system to produce such an amount of entanglement.

In a recent work (Allegra et al, Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 100503, 2010) we addressed the evolution of photon-number entangled states in noisy Gaussian channels. Upon exploiting several non equivalent separability criteria we found evidence that entanglement of Gaussian PNES survives longer, and thus we drew a conjecture about the generality of this result. In their Comment to our work, Lee et al. use an additional entanglement criterion (NDPT) which allows them to show some counterexamples to our conjecture, i.e., nonGaussian states whose entanglement survives longer. In this reply, we argue that…
Rydberg atoms traversing a micromaser cavity one after the other can emerge in correlated states, and according to Copenhagen quantum mechanics this may lead to a violation of Bell's inequality, that is, to a Bell sum S>2. S is here calculated in various ideal physical situations including those with (1) different initial states of the atoms, (2) different free adjustable parameters, being either the phase or the turning angle of a classical radiation field put behind the cavity, and (3) either equal or different Rabi angles for successive atoms. The experiments are crucial for a realist inter…
In a recent paper [quant-ph/0607008] Lapaire and Sipe argue that one can discuss interference experiments using entangled photons in terms of single photon wave functions. Furthermore, they argue that contrary to the claim of the authors of the postponed compensation experiment [2], the single photon wave functions overlap on the beam splitter when interference is observed. In this comment, we show that the claim in [2] is correct and we argue that the idea of single photon wave functions in entangled states is misleading.
We discuss the recent proposal by Thommen and Mandel (Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 96}, 053601 (2006)) for electromagnetically induced negative refraction. Although the main conclusion of the paper -- the possibility to achieve negative refraction in an experimentally accessible atomic scheme -- remains valid, we show that the weak-excitation approximation used is invalid in the parameter regime studied and leads to quantitatively incorrect predictions. We show that negative refraction is always accompanied by absorption rather than by gain, and that the maximum value of the refraction-absorption rat…
Recently Yu and Sun [Int. J. Theor. Phys. DOI 10.1007/s10773-014-2360-x] have presented probabilistic teleportation of 3-qubit cat state via 6-qubit cluster state. The success probability depends on absolute value of only two of the coefficients of cluster state i.e. |c|^2 + |d|^2. We have demonstrated the feasibility to teleport 3-qubit cat state via 2-qubit non maximally entangled Bell state instead of a complex state like 6-qubit non maximally entangled cluster state. In this comment we have prescribed an optimal protocol for teleportation of n-qubit state of the form (α|x> + β|\bar{x}>)_n …
Tanabe et al (Phys. Rev. A {\bf 82} 040101(R) 2010) have experimentally demonstrated that the emission properties of unstable atoms in entangled and product states are different. The authors define an apparent decay time as a fitting parameter which falls below the lifetime of the single atom for entangled pairs. We argue that their results about coincidence time spectra are correct, but those concerning lifetimes cannot be considered conclusive because they assume the emission of photons by the two atoms to be independent processes, a doubtful hypothesis for entangled states. We suggest an im…
By going beyond Hubbard Hamiltonian we reflected correlation effects accurately in the wavefunctions of H2. Using ab initio e-e interaction parameters resulted maximally entangled ground and third excited states. We assigned this maximally entangled character to the nonmagnetic (S=0) property of these states and also the minimally entangled character of the first excited states to its magnetic property. By switching on a magnetic field an entangled state with Sz = 0 can be extracted from a minimally entangled degenerate magnetic state. We suggest that presence of a moderate correlated system a…
The first photon emission and the disentanglement of a pair of identical bosonic atoms in excited entangled states follow an exponential law. We extend the theory to distinguishable and identical fermionic two-atom systems. As a byproduct of the analysis we determine the symmetries of the fermionic wave function. We also derive the emission distributions of excited atoms in product states, which must take into account the presence of simultaneous detections. Comparing both distributions reveals a direct manifestation of the modifications induced by entanglement on the atomic emission propertie…
Within the matrix product state framework, we study the non-Markovian feedback dynamics of a two-level system interacting with the electromagnetic field inside a semi-infinite waveguide where the excitation of an atom-photon bound state is possible. Taking the steady-state excitation of the emitter as a figure of merit, we compare the trapped excitation for an initially excited quantum emitter and an emitter prepared via quantized pulses containing up to four photons. In the latter case, we find that for large feedback delay times, multi-photon pulses can yield a significantly higher steady-st…
The entanglement of different classes of initially entangled qubit pair is investigated in the presence of short laser pulses of rectangular and exponential shapes with either one or both qubits are excited. For the rectangular pulse, the detuning parameter protects the entanglement from degradation and controls its upper and lower bounds. We show that the upper bounds of entanglement decrease if both particles are excited, but the lower bounds are much better if only one particle is excited. The phenomena of entanglement degradation, sudden- death and -birth are shown for small initial time. …
In a recent comment \cite{ch1} it has been claimed that an entangled-based quantum key distribution protocol proposed in \cite{zhang} and its generalization to d-level systems in \cite{v1} are insecure against an attack devised by the authors of the comment. We invalidate the arguments of the comment and show that the protocols are still secure.
Recently, Li et al. [Phys. Rev. A, 82(2), 022303] presented two semi-quantum secret sharing (SQSS) protocols using GHZ-like states. The proposed schemes are rather practical because only the secret dealer requires to equip with advanced quantum devices such as quantum memory, whereas the other agents can merely perform classical operations to complete the secret sharing. However, this study points out that a security pitfall exists in the eavesdropping check phase of both schemes that could mount to an Intercept-resend attack and a Trojan horse attack on the two schemes, respectively, to discl…
Quantum light is a key resource for promoting quantum technology. One such class of technology aims to improve the precision of optical measurements using engineered quantum states of light. In this study, we investigate transmission measurement of frequency-entangled broadband photon pairs generated via parametric down-conversion with a monochromatic laser. It is observed that state-to-state dynamics in the system under study are temporally resolved by adjusting the path difference between the entangled twin beams when the entanglement time is sufficiently short. The non-classical photon corr…
A novel ultrabright parametric source of polarization entangled photon pairs with striking spatial characteristics is reported. The distribution of the output electromagnetic k-modes excited by Spontaneous Parametris Down Conversion and coupled to the output detectors can be very broad. It could coincide with the full set of phase-matched excited modes, at least in principle. In this case a relevant conditional quasi-pure output state should be realized. By these (approximate) states realized over a full Entanglement-Ring output distribution, the non local properties of the generated entanglem…
We describe a mathematical solution for the generation of entangled N-photon states in two field modes. A simple and compact solution is presented for a two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model by combining the two field modes in a way that only one of the two resulting quasi-modes enters in the interaction term. The formalism developed is then applied to calculate various generation probabilities analytically. We show that entanglement, starting from an initial field and an atom in one defined state may be obtained in a single step. We also show that entanglement may be built up in the case of an empty…
We show that two groups of slow two-level atoms in a weak resonant laser field, are entangled. The considered groups can be separated by a macroscopic distance, and be parts of a larger atomic ensemble. In a dilute regime, for two very distant groups of atoms, in a plane wave laser beam, we determine the maximum attainable entanglement negativity, and a laser intensity below which they are certainly entangled. They both decrease with increasing distance between the two groups, but increase with enlarging groups sizes. As a consequence, for given laser intensity, far separated groups of atoms a…
When a single emitter is excited by two phase-coherent pulses with a time delay, each of the pulses can lead to the emission of a photon pair, thus creating a ``time-bin entangled'' state. Double pair emission can be avoided by initially preparing the emitter in a metastable state. We show how photons from separate emissions can be made indistinguishable, permitting their use for multi-photon interference. Possible realizations are discussed. The method might also allow the direct creation of n-photon entangled states (n>2).
Equivalent-neighbor interactions of the conduction-band electron spins of quantum dots in the model of Imamoglu et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 4204 (1999)] are analyzed. Analytical solution and its Schmidt decomposition are found and applied to evaluate how much the initially excited dots can be entangled to the remaining dots if all of them are initially disentangled. It is demonstrated that the perfect maximally entangled states (MES) can only be generated in the systems of up to 6 dots with a single dot initially excited. It is also shown that highly entangled states, approximating the MES wi…
We propose schemes to prepare atomic entangled states in a bi-mode cavity via stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) and fractional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (f-STIRAP) tech- niques. According to the simulation results, our schemes keep the cavity modes almost unexcited and the atomic excited states are nearly unpopulated during the whole process. The simulation also shows that the error probability is very small.
In this paper, We investigate three-mode photon-added Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled coherent states by repeatedly operating the photon-added operator on the GHZ entangled coherent states. The product of two Laguerre polynomials is demonstrated to be connected to the normalizing constant. The influence of the operation on the non-classical and non-Gaussian behavior of the GHZ entangled coherent states is investigated. Sub-Poissonian statistics, such as Mandel's parameter and the negativity of the Wigner function, show that non-classical properties can enhance GHZ entangled coheren…
We study the estimation of parameters in a quantum metrology scheme based on entangled many-body Unruh-DeWitt detectors. It is found that the precision for the estimation of Unruh effect can be enhanced via initial state preparations and parameter selections. It is shown that the precision in the estimation of the Unruh temperature in terms of a many-body-probe metrology is always better than the precision in two probe strategies. The proper acceleration for Bob's detector and the interaction between the accelerated detector and the external field have significant influences on the precision f…
Experimentally observed quantum few-body dynamics of neutral atoms excited to a Rydberg state are numerically analyzed with Lindblad master equation formalism. For this, up to five rubidium atoms are trapped with optical tweezers, arranged in various two-dimensional configurations, and excited to Rydberg 67S state in the nearest-neighbor blockade regime. Their coherent evolutions are measured with time-varying ground-state projections. The experimental results are analyzed with a model Lindblad equation with the homogeneous and inhomogeneous dampings determined by systematic and statistical er…
The long-range interaction between Rydberg-excited atoms endows a medium with large optical nonlinearity. Here, we demonstrate an optical switch to operate on a single photon from an entangled photon pair under a Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency configuration. With the presence of the Rydberg blockade effect, we switch on a gate field to make the atomic medium nontransparent thereby absorbing the single photon emitted from another atomic ensemble via the spontaneous four-wave mixing process. In contrast to the case without a gate field, more than 50% of the photons sent to the …
In this study, the main focus is laid on the design of the optoelectronic quantum illumination system to enhance the system performance, such as operation at high temperature and confinement of the thermally excited photons. The optomechanical based quantum illumination system has wieldy been studied, and the results showed that operation at high temperature is so crucial to preserve the entanglement between modes. The main problem is that the mechanical part has to operate with a low frequency with which a large number of thermally excited photons are generated and worsened the entanglement. …
In this paper, we critically revisit the Horowitz-Maldacena proposal and its generalization by Lloyd. In the original proposal, as well as in Lloyd's generalization, Hawking radiation involves a pair of maximally entangled quantum states in which the ingoing partner state and the collapsed matter form either a maximally entangled pair or a Schmidt decomposed random state near the singularity. We point out that the unitary matrix introduced in Lloyd's fidelity calculation depends on initial matter states; hence, his result on the high average fidelity may not represent an almost unitary evoluti…
An antiferromagnetically exchange-coupled dimer of single molecule magnets which possesses a large spin tunneling has been investigated. For this system the ground and first excited states are entangled states and the Hamiltonian is effectively similar to that of a two-state system at $2s^{\text{th}}$ order in perturbation theory, thus this system can be mapped to an entangled pseudospin 1/2 particles. We study the effects of interaction and rotation of this system about its staggered easy-axis direction . The corresponding Hamiltonian of a rotated two-state entangled spin system is derived wi…
We examine the maximum negative energy density which can be attained in various quantum states of a massless scalar field. We consider states in which either one or two modes are excited, and show that the energy density can be given in terms of a small number of parameters. We calculate these parameters for several examples of superposition states for one mode, and entangled states for two modes, and find the maximum magnitude of the negative energy density in these states. We consider several states which have been, or potentially will be, generated in quantum optics experiments.
We propose a relativistic quantum Otto cycle between an entangled state of two qubits and their composite excited (or ground) state whose efficiency can be greater than the usual single qubit quantum Otto engine. The hot and cold reservoirs are constructed by providing uniform accelerations to these qubits along with the interaction between the background field and individual qubits. The efficiency, as measured from one of the qubits' frame, not only depends on the energy gap of the states but also the relative acceleration between them. For lower acceleration of our observer's qubit compared …
We study the radiative process of two entangled two-level atoms uniformly accelerated in a thermal bath, coupled to a massless scalar field. First, using the positive frequency Wightman function from the Minkowski modes with a Rindler transformation we provide the transition probabilities for the transitions from maximally entangled symmetric and anti-symmetric Bell states to the collective excited state in $(1+1)$ and $(1+3)$ dimensions. We observe a possible case of \emph{anti-Unruh-like} event in these transition probabilities, though the $(1+1)$ and $(1+3)$ dimensional results are not comp…
