In this paper, we introduce the $n$-dimensional Lorentzian wormhole solutions of third order Lovelock gravity. In contrast to Einstein gravity and as in the case of Gauss-Bonnet gravity, we find that the wormhole throat radius, $r_0$, has a lower limit that depends on the Lovelock coefficients, the dimensionality of the spacetime and the shape function. We study the conditions of having normal matter near the throat, and find that the matter near the throat can be normal for the region $r_0 \leq r \leq r_{\max}$, where $r_{\max}$ depends on the Lovelock coefficients and the shape function. We also find that the third order Lovelock term with negative coupling constant enlarges the radius of the region of normal matter, and conclude that the higher order Lovelock terms with negative coupling constants enlarge the region of normal matter near the throat.
We construct the asymptotically flat charged thin-shell wormholes of Lovelock gravity in seven dimensions by cut-and-paste technique, and apply the generalized junction conditions in order to calculate the energy-momentum tensor of these wormholes on the shell. We find that for negative second order and positive third order Lovelock coefficients, there are thin-shell wormholes that respect the weak energy condition. In this case, the amount of normal matter decreases as the third order Lovelock coefficient increases. For positive second and third order Lovelock coefficients, the weak energy co…
In this paper new exact solutions in eight dimensional Lovelock theory will be presented. These solutions are vacuum static wormhole, black hole and generalized Bertotti-Robinson space-times with nontrivial torsion. All the solutions have a cross product structure of the type $M_{5}\times Σ_{3} $ where $M_{5}$ is a five dimensional manifold and $Σ_{3}$ a compact constant curvature manifold. The wormhole is the first example of a smooth vacuum static Lovelock wormhole which is neither Chern-Simons nor Born-Infeld. It will be also discussed how the presence of torsion affects the "navigableness"…
In this study we present evolving wormhole configurations in third-order {Lovelock} gravity and investigate the possibility that these solutions satisfy the energy conditions. Using a generalized Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime, we derive evolving wormhole geometries by considering a constraint on the Ricci scalar. In standard cosmological models, the Ricci scalar is independent of the radial coordinate $r$ and is only a function of time. We use this property to introduce dynamic wormhole solutions expanding in an inflationary cosmological background and explore the effects of higher-orde…
Static asymptotically Lifshitz wormholes and black holes in vacuum are shown to exist for a class of Lovelock theories in d=2n+1>7 dimensions, selected by requiring that all but one of their n maximally symmetric vacua are AdS of radius l and degenerate. The wormhole geometry is regular everywhere and connects two Lifshitz spacetimes with a nontrivial geometry at the boundary. The dynamical exponent z is determined by the quotient of the curvature radii of the maximally symmetric vacua according to n(z^2-1)+1=(l/L)^2, where L corresponds to the curvature radius of the nondegenerate vacuum. Lig…
In this work, we consider wormhole geometries in third-order Lovelock gravity and investigate the possibility that these solutions satisfy the energy conditions. In this framework, by applying a specific equation of state, we obtain exact wormhole solutions, and by imposing suitable values for the parameters of the theory, we find that these geometries satisfy the weak energy condition in the vicinity of the throat, due to the presence of higher order curvature terms. Finally, we trace out a numerical analysis, by assuming a specific redshift function, and find asymptotically flat solutions th…
It is generally believed that wormholes are supported by exotic matter violating Null Energy Condition (NEC). However, various studies of wormhole geometries under Lovelock theories of gravity have reported existence of wormhole supported by matter satisfying NEC. Being inspired by these results, we explore the possibility of the existence of wormhole supported by normal quark matter in third order Lovelock gravity theory. Well known MIT Bag Model Equation of state is chosen for describing the quark matter. Taking physically acceptable approximations, we solve the field equations for shape fun…
In this work, we explore asymptotically flat charged thin-shell wormholes of third order Lovelock gravity in higher dimensions, taking into account the cut-and-paste technique. Using the generalized junction conditions, we determine the energy-momentum tensor of these solutions on the shell, and explore the issue of the energy conditions and the amount of normal matter that supports these thin-shell wormholes. Our analysis shows that for negative second order and positive third-order Lovelock coefficients, there are thin-shell wormhole solutions that respect the weak energy condition. In this …
Following the recent theory of Lovelock-Brans-Dicke gravity, we continue to investigate the conditions to support traversable wormholes by the gravitational effects of spacetime parity and topology, which arise from the nonminimal couplings of a background scalar field to the Chern-Pontryagin density and the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. The flaring-out condition indicates that a Morris-Thorne-type wormhole can be maintained by violating the generalized null energy condition, and thus also breaking down the generalized weak, strong, and dominant energy conditions; meanwhile, analyses of the zero-tid…
In this paper, we consider third order Lovelock gravity with a cosmological constant term in an n-dimensional spacetime $\mathcal{M}^{4}\times \mathcal{K}^{n-4}$, where $\mathcal{K}^{n-4} $ is a constant curvature space. We decompose the equations of motion to four and higher dimensional ones and find wormhole solutions by considering a vacuum $\mathcal{K}^{n-4} $ space. Applying the latter constraint, we determine the second and third order Lovelock coefficients and the cosmological constant in terms of specific parameters of the model, such as the size of the extra dimensions. Using the obta…
As shown by Louko and Sorkin in 1995, topology change in Lorentzian signature involves spacetimes with singular points, which they called crotches. We modify their construction to obtain Lorentzian semiclassical wormholes in asymptotically AdS. These solutions are obtained by inserting crotches on known saddles, like the double-cone or multiple copies of the Lorentzian black hole. The crotches implement swap-identifications, and are classically located at an extremal surface. The resulting Lorentzian wormholes have an instanton action equal to their area, which is responsible for topological s…
A family of spherically symmetric, static and self--dual Lorentzian wormholes is obtained in n--dimensional Einstein gravity. This class of solutions includes the n--dimensional versions of the Schwarzschild black hole and the spatial--Schwarzschild traversable wormhole. Using isotropic coordinates we study the geometrical structure of the solution, and delineate the domains of the free parameters for which wormhole, naked singular geometries and the Schwarzschild black hole are obtained. It is shown that, in the lower dimensional Einstein gravity without cosmological constant, we can not have…
We discuss the possibility of constructing stable, static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat Lorentzian wormhole solutions in General Relativity coupled to a generalized Galileon field $π$. Assuming that Minkowski space-time is obtained at $\partial π=0$, we find that there is tension between the properties of the energy-momentum tensor required to support a wormhole (violation of average null energy conditions) and stability of the Galileon perturbations about the putative solution (absence of ghosts and gradient instabilities). In 3-dimensional space-time, this tension is strong eno…
We construct a large class of explicit, asymptotically flat and regular wormhole solutions in higher order scalar tensor theories. The solutions are vacuum solutions of scalar tensor theory and no matter (exotic or regular) is introduced in order to support them. They are constructed via a general disformal transformation of a seed black hole solution. The seed solutions belong to a particular Horndeski theory which requires the presence of all extended Galileons and has a higher dimensional Lovelock origin. As a result, the resulting wormholes are always solutions of general beyond Horndeski …
We uncover a surprising correspondence between a non-perturbative formulation of three-dimensional Lorentzian quantum gravity and a hermitian two-matrix model with ABAB-interaction. The gravitational transfer matrix can be expressed as the logarithm of a two-matrix integral, and we deduce from the known structure of the latter that the model has two phases. In the phase of weak gravity, well-defined two-dimensional universes propagate in proper time, whereas in the strong-coupling phase the spatial hypersurfaces disintegrate into many components connected by wormholes.
We study complex saddles of the Lorentzian path integral for 4D axion gravity and its dual description in terms of a 3-form flux, which include the Giddings-Strominger Euclidean wormhole. Transition amplitudes are computed using the Lorentzian path integral and with the help of Picard-Lefschetz theory. The number and nature of saddles is shown to qualitatively change in the presence of a bilocal operator that could arise, for example, as a result of considering higher-topology transitions. We also analyze the stability of the Giddings-Strominger wormhole in the 3-form picture, where we find th…
Recent research shows that Hawking radiation (HR) is also possible around the trapping horizon of a wormhole. In this article, we show that the HR of gravitino (spin-$3/2$) particles from the traversable Lorentzian wormholes (TLWH) reveals a negative Hawking temperature (HT). We first introduce the TLWH in the past outer trapping horizon geometry (POTHG). Next, we derive the Rarita-Schwinger equations (RSEs) for that geometry. Then, using both the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) ansätz and the WKB approximation in the quantum tunneling method, we obtain the probabilities of the emission/absorption modes.…
We show that it is possible to construct a wide class of Lorentzian wormholes in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity with a stress energy which does not violate the weak or null energy condition. The wormholes exist in a certain region of the parameter space. In fact, it is shown that there is a critical value of a parameter defined in our work, below which we have wormholes. Above the critical value, we have a regular black hole spacetime. We put a restriction on the equation of state parameter $α$ ($p_θ=αρ$) to have wormholes. We also put a lower limit on both the theory parameter $|κ|$ a…
We present a family of static and evolving spherically symmetric Lorentzian wormhole solutions in N+1 dimensional Einstein gravity. In general, for static wormholes, we require that at least the radial pressure has a barotropic equation of state of the form $p_r=ω_r ρ$, where the state parameter $ω_r$ is constant. On the other hand, it is shown that in any dimension $N \geq 3$, with $ϕ(r)=Λ=0$ and anisotropic barotropic pressure with constant state parameters, static wormhole configurations are always asymptotically flat spacetimes, while in 2+1 gravity there are not only asymptotically flat s…
Higher-derivative gravity theories, such as Lovelock theories, generalize Einstein's general relativity (GR). Modifications to GR are expected when curvatures are near Planckian and appear in string theory or supergravity. But can such theories describe gravity on length scales much larger than the Planck cutoff length scale? Here we find causality constraints on Lovelock theories that arise from the requirement that the equations of motion (EOM) of perturbations be hyperbolic. We find a general expression for the "effective metric" in field space when Lovelock theories are perturbed around so…
Wormholes are speculative structures linking disparate space-time points. Their geometry can be obtained by solving Einstein equations with tolerating the violation of null energy conditions. Recently, many researchers have studied different wormholes according to different criteria, and they achieved remarkable results. In this paper, we investigate a series of exact solutions of the static wormhole with smeared mass source geometry in modified $f(R)$ gravity theories. In fact, we consider the Lorentzian density distribution which is coming from a particle-like source. To be more specific, th…
We study whether it is possible to design a "classical" spatially flat bouncing cosmology or a static, spherically symmetric asymptotically flat Lorentzian wormhole in cubic Galileon theories interacting with an extra scalar field. We show that bouncing models are always plagued with gradient instabilities, while there are always ghosts in wormhole backgrounds.
We discuss the properties of Lorentzian wormholes in dilatonic Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory in four spacetime dimensions. These wormholes do not need any form of exotic matter for their existence. A subset of these wormholes is shown to be linearly stable with respect to radial perturbations. We perform a comprehensive study of their domain of existence, and derive a generalised Smarr relation for these wormholes. We also investigate their geodesics determining all possible particle trajectories, and perform a study of the acceleration and tidal forces that a traveler crossing the wormhole wou…
We investigate the evolution of a family of wormholes sustained by two matter components: one with homogeneous and isotropic properties $ρ(t)$ and another inhomogeneous and anisotropic $ρ_{in}(t,r)$. The rate of expansion of these evolving wormholes is only determined by the isotropic and homogeneous matter component $ρ(t)$. Particularly, we consider a family of exact two-fluid evolving wormholes expanding with constant velocity and satisfying the dominant and the strong energy conditions in the whole spacetime. In general, for the case of vanishing isotropic fluid $ρ(t)$ and cosmological cons…
Wormholes can be described as geometrical structures in space and time that can serve as connection between distant regions of the universe. Mathematically, general wormholes can be defined both on stationary as well as on dynamic line elements. However, general relativistic and evolving Lorentzian wormholes are less studied than their static wormhole counterpart. Accordingly, in this work we shall focus on some evolving wormhole geometries. Starting from a general class of spherically symmetric line element supporting wormhole geometries, we shall use the Einstein's field equations to develop…
In this paper we study the relationship between the Einstein field equations for the (2+1)-dimensional evolving wormhole and the first law of thermodynamics. It has been shown that the Einstein field equations can be rewritten as a similar form of the first law of thermodynamics at the dynamical trapping horizon (as proposed by Hayward) for the dynamical spacetime which describes intrinsic thermal properties associated with the trapping horizon. For a particular choice of the shape and potential functions we are able to express field equations as a similar form of first law of thermodynamics $…
Recently, it has been suggested in [JHEP 12(2015)003] that the Brown-York mechanism can be used to measure the quasilocal energy in Lovelock gravity. We have used this method in a system of M0-branes and show that the Brown-York energy evolves in the process of birth and growth of Lovelock gravity. This can help us to predict phenomenological events which are emerged as due to dynamical structure of Lovelock gravity in our universe. In this model, first, M0-branes join to each other and form an M3-brane and an anti-M3-branes connected by an M2-brane. This system is named BIon. Universes and an…
In this paper we study $(N+1)$-dimensional evolving wormholes supported by energy satisfying a polytropic equation of state. The considered evolving wormhole models are described by a constant redshift function and generalizes the standard flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime. The polytropic equation of state allows us to consider in $(3+1)$-dimensions generalizations of the phantom energy and the generalized Chaplygin gas sources.
It has been speculated that Lorentzian wormholes of the Morris- Thorne type might be allowed by the laws of physics at submicroscopic, e.g. Planck, scales and that a sufficiently advanced civilization might be able to enlarge them to classical size. The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibility that inflation might provide a natural mechanism for the enlargement of such wormholes to macroscopic size. A new classical metric is presented for a Lorentzian wormhole which is imbedded in a flat deSitter space. It is shown that the throat and proper length of the wormhole inflate. The resul…
In this paper we show that, analogously to as it occurs for black holes, there exist three well-defined laws for Lorentzian wormhole thermodynamics and that these laws are related with a thermal phantom-like radiation process coming from the wormhole throat. It is argued that the existence of wormholes could be manifested by means such a radiation. These results are obtained by analyzing the Hayward formalism of spherically symmetric solutions containing trapping horizons, the phenomenon of phantom accretion onto wormholes and the development of phantom thermodynamics.
Evolving Lorentzian wormholes with the required matter satisfying the Energy conditions are discussed. Several different scale factors are used and the corresponding consequences derived. The effect of extra, decaying (in time) compact dimensions present in the wormhole metric is also explored and certain interesting conclusions are derived for the cases of exponential and Kaluza--Klein inflation.
We speculate about the spacetime description due to the presence of Lorentzian wormholes (handles in spacetime joining two distant regions or other universes) in quantum gravity. The semiclassical rate of production of these Lorentzian wormholes in Reissner-Nordström spacetimes is calculated as a result of the spontaneous decay of vacuum due to a real tunneling configuration. In the magnetic case it only depends on the field theoretical fine structure constant. We predict that the quantum probability corresponding to the nucleation of such geodesically complete spacetimes should be actually ne…
The metric of some Lorentzian wormholes in the background of the FRW universe is obtained. It is shown that for a de Sitter space-time the new solution is supported by Phantom Energy. The wave equation for a scalar field in such backgrounds is separable. The form of the potential for the Schrödinger type one dimensional wave equation is found.
We carry out to completion the quantization of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker model provided with a conformal scalar field, and of a Kantowski-Sachs spacetime minimally coupled to a massless scalar field. We prove that the Hilbert space determined by the reality conditions that correspond to Lorentzian gravity admits a basis of wormhole wave functions. This result implies that the vector space spanned by the quantum wormholes can be equipped with an unique inner product by demanding an adequate set of Lorentzian reality conditions, and that the Hilbert space of wormholes obtained in this way can…
In the context of modified $f(R)$ gravity, we attempt to study the thermodynamic properties of the evolving Lorentzian wormholes at the apparent horizon. It is shown that the wormhole can be derived from a particular $f(R)$ model in the radiation background. Moreover, it has been shown that the field equations can be cast to a similar form $dE = TdS + WdV + Td\bar{S}$ at the apparent horizon for the evolving Lorentzian wormhole. Compared to the case of Einstein's general relativity, an additional term $Td\bar{S}$ appears here.
We present a minisuperspace analysis of a class of Lorentzian wormholes that evolves quantum mechanically in a background Friedman Robertson Walker spacetime. The quantum mechanical wavefunction for these wormholes is obtained by solving the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for Einstein gravity on this minisuperspace. The time-dependent expectation value of the wormhole throat radius is calculated to lowest order in an adiabatic expansion of the Wheeler-DeWitt hamiltonian. For a radiation dominated expansion, the radius is shown to relax asymptotically to obtain a value of order the Planck length while…
This paper deals with some thermodynamical aspects of Lorentzian wormholes, including the formulation of the three main laws and the consideration of a possible thermal emission made up of some sort of phantom radiation coming out from the wormhole at a negative temperature. In order for these topics to be consistently developed we have used a 2+2 formalism first advanced by Hayward for spherically symmetric space-times, where a generalized surface gravity is defined on the trapping horizon. Our results generalize still further those of the already generalized gravitational thermodynamics.
A two-parameter family of spherically symmetric, static Lorentzian wormholes is obtained as the general solution of the equation $ρ=ρ_t=0$, where $ρ= T_{ij} u^iu^j$, $ρ_t = (T_{ij} - {1\over2} T g_{ij}) u^iu^j$, and $u^i u_i =- 1$. This equation characterizes a class of spacetimes which are ``self dual'' (in the sense of electrogravity duality). The class includes the Schwarzschild black hole, a family of naked singularities, and a disjoint family of Lorentzian wormholes, all of which have vanishing scalar curvature (R=0). Properties of these spacetimes are discussed. Using isotropic coordinat…
A process for using curvature invariants is applied as a new means to evaluate the traversability of Lorentzian wormholes and to display the wormhole spacetime manifold. This approach was formulated by Henry, Overduin and Wilcomb for Black Holes in Reference [1]. Curvature invariants are independent of coordinate basis, so the process is free of coordinate mapping distortions and the same regardless of your chosen coordinates. The four independent Carminati and McLenaghan (CM) invariants are calculated and the non-zero curvature invariant functions are plotted. Three example traversable wormho…
In this article, we consider the Hawking radiation (HR) of vector (massive spin-1) particles from the traversable Lorentzian wormholes (TLWH) in 3+1 dimensions. We start by providing the Proca equations for the TLWH. Using the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ)ansätz with the WKB approximation in the quantum tunneling method, we obtain the probabilities of the emission/absorption modes. Then, we derive the tunneling rate of the emitted vector particles and manage to read the standard Hawking temperature of the TLWH. The result obtained represents a negative temperature, which is also discussed.
We study the behavior of a specific Lorentzian wormhole family under gravitational perturbations. In earlier work [EPJC 80, 850 (2020)], we have proved the stability of a test scalar field in the background of the wormhole family, where the effective potential was that of a double barrier. Continuing with the stability analysis, here we focus on the more physically relevant scenario, that of axial gravitational perturbations. Interestingly, we find that the effective potential is a triple barrier for lower angular momentum modes. This raises important questions on the ringdown of the correspon…
Two spherically symmetric, static Lorentzian wormholes are obtained in tetrad theory of gravitation as a solution of the equation $ρ=ρ_t=0$, where $ρ=T_{ij}u^iu^j, ρ_t=(T_{ij}-{1/2}Tg_{ij})u^iu^j$ and $u^iu_i=-1$. This equation characterizes a class of spacetime which are "self-dual" (in the sense of electrogravity duality). The obtained solutions are characterized by two-parameters $k_1, k_2$ and have a common property that they reproduce the same metric spacetime. This metric is the static Lorentzian wormhole and it includes the Schwarzschild black hole. Calculating the energy content of the…
This article is based on the study of wormhole geometries in the context of symmetric teleparallel gravity or $f(Q)$ gravity, where $Q$ is the non-metricity scalar, and it is responsible for the gravitational interaction. To discuss the wormhole solutions, we consider spherically symmetric static spacetime metric with anisotropic matter contents under well-known non-commutative distributions known as Gaussian and Lorentzian distributions with an extra condition of permitting conformal killing vectors (CKV). This work aims to obtain wormhole solutions under these distributions, and through we f…
It is known that Lorentzian wormholes must be threaded by matter that violates the null energy condition. We phenomenologically characterize such exotic matter by a general class of microscopic scalar field Lagrangians and formulate the necessary conditions that the existence of Lorentzian wormholes imposes on them. Under rather general assumptions, these conditions turn out to be strongly restrictive. The most simple Lagrangian that satisfies all of them describes a minimally coupled massless scalar field with a reversed sign kinetic term. Exact, non-singular, spherically symmetric solutions …
Using simplicial minisuperspace techniques we obtain a wormhole configuration, capable of modelling both a throat between two equal Euclidean and Lorentzian universes. Computing the wavefunction associated to such configuration we conclude that for Planck-size Euclidean wormholes there is a prediction of a finite non-vanishing radius of their throat, even in the absence of matter. The wavefunction associated to their Lorentzian counterparts predicts the growth of the wormhole's throat as the two Lorentzian universes expand.
In this paper we study the possibility of sustaining an evolving wormhole via exotic matter made out of phantom energy. We show that this exotic source can support the existence of evolving wormhole spacetimes. Explicitly, a family of evolving Lorentzian wormholes conformally related to another family of zero-tidal force static wormhole geometries is found in Einstein gravity. Contrary to the standard wormhole approach, where first a convenient geometry is fixed and then the matter distribution is derived, we follow the conventional approach for finding solutions in theoretical cosmology. We d…
In this paper, we derive some new exact solutions of static wormholes in $f(R)$ gravity supported by the matter possesses Lorentizian density distribution of a particle-like gravitational source. We derive the wormhole's solutions in two possible schemes for a given Lorentzian distribution: assuming an astrophysically viable $F(R)$ function such as a power-law form and discuss several solutions corresponding to different values of the exponent (here $F =\frac{df}{dR}$). In the second scheme, we consider particular form of two shape functions and have reconstructed f(R) in both cases. We have d…
This study explores the Gaussian and the Lorentzian distributed spherically symmetric wormhole solutions in the $f(τ, T)$ gravity. The basic idea of the Gaussian and Lorentzian noncommutative geometries emerges as the physically acceptable and substantial notion in quantum physics. This idea of the noncommutative geometries with both the Gaussian and Lorentzian distributions becomes more striking when wormhole geometries in the modified theories of gravity are discussed. Here we consider a linear model within $f(τ,T)$ gravity to investigate traversable wormholes. In particular, we discuss the …
In this work, we study the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSL) at the apparent horizon of an evolving Lorentzian wormhole. We obtain the expressions of thermal variables at the apparent horizon. Choosing the two well-known entropy functions i.e. power-law and logarithmic, we obtain the expressions of GSL. We have analyzed the GSL using a power-law form of scale factor $a(t)=a_0t^n$ and the special form of shape function $b(r)=\frac{b_{0}}{r}$. It is shown that GSL is valid in the evolving wormhole spacetime for both choices of entropies if the power-law exponent is small, but for la…
In this paper we study the possibility of sustaining an evolving wormhole via exotic matter made of phantom energy in the presence of a cosmological constant. We derive analytical evolving wormhole geometries by supposing that the radial tension of the phantom matter, which is negative to the radial pressure, and the pressure measured in the tangential directions have barotropic equations of state with constant state parameters. In this case the presence of a cosmological constant ensures accelerated expansion of the wormhole configurations. More specifically, for positive cosmological constan…
The present article lies at the interface between gravity, a highly nonlinear phenomenon, and quantum field theory. The nonlinear field equations of Einstein permit the theoretical existence of classical wormholes. One of the fundamental questions relates to the practical viability of such wormholes. One way to answer this question is to assess if the total \emph{volume} of exotic matter needed to maintain the wormhole is finite. Using this value as the lower bound, we propose a modified semiclassical volume Averaged Null Energy Condition (ANEC) constraint as a method of discarding many soluti…
We construct an explicit class of dynamic lorentzian wormholes connecting Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetimes. These wormholes can allow two-way transmission of signals between spatially separated regions of spacetime and could permit such regions to come into thermal contact. The cosmology of a network of early Universe wormholes is discussed.
Lovelock theory is a natural extension of Einstein theory of gravity to higher dimensions, and it is of great interest in theoretical physics as it describes a wide class of models. In particular, it describes string theory inspired ultraviolet corrections to Einstein-Hilbert action, while admits the Einstein general relativiy and the so called Chern-Simons theories of gravity as particular cases. Recently, five-dimensional Lovelock theory has been considered in the literature as a working example to illustrate the effects of including higher-curvature terms in the context of AdS/CFT correspon…
Noether symmetry has been invoked to explore the forms of a couple of coupling parameters and the potential appearing in a general scalar-tensor theory of gravity in the background of Robertson-Walker space-time. Exact solutions of Einstein's field equations in the familiar Brans-Dicke, Induced gravity and a General non-minimally coupled scalar-tensor theories of gravity have been found using the conserved current and the energy equation, after being expressed in a set of new variables. Noticeably, the form of the scale factors remains unaltered in all the three cases and represents cosmologic…
A regular vacuum solution in 5D gravity on the principal bundle with the U(1) structural group is proposed as a 4D wormhole. This solution has two null hypersurfaces where an interchange of the sign of some 5D metric components happens. For a 4D observer living on the base of this principal bundle this is a wormhole with two asymptotically flat Lorentzian (Euclidean) spacetimes connected by a Euclidean (Lorentzian) throat. The 4D Lorentzian observer sees these two null hypersurfaces as electric charges.
A lower bound on the size of a Lorentzian wormhole can be obtained by semiclassically introducing the Planck cut-off on the magnitude of tidal forces (Horowitz-Ross constraint). Also, an upper bound is provided by the quantum field theoretic constraint in the form of the Ford-Roman Quantum Inequality for massless minimally coupled scalar fields. To date, however, exact static solutions belonging to this scalar field theory have not been worked out to verify these bounds. To fill this gap, we examine the wormhole features of two examples from the Einstein frame description of the vacuum low ene…
Wormholes with Ellis geometry have been successfully constructed using tachyon matter \cite{Das}. However, for such a wormhole, it is obtained that the redshift function is necessarily a constant, and also the wormhole is plagued with an imaginary tachyon potential and a constant field if the solutions are obtained in the absence of a cosmological constant term. So, a physically plausible wormhole solution is possible only in the presence of a $Λ$ term. In this paper, we try to construct a wormhole from tachyon matter with three $other$ geometries \textit{different} from the Ellis geometry and…
