First Measurement of the $\lowercase{\ttbar}$ Differential Cross Section $\lowercase{dσ/d}M_{\lowercase{t\overline{t}}}$ in $\lowercase{\ppbar}$ Collisions at $\sqrt{\lowercase{s}}=1.96$ TeV
We present a measurement of the $\ttbar$ differential cross section with respect to the $\ttbar$ invariant mass, dSigma/dMttbar, in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV using an integrated luminosity of $2.7\invfb$ collected by the CDF II experiment. The $\ttbar$ invariant mass spectrum is sensitive to a variety of exotic particles decaying into $\ttbar$ pairs. The result is consistent with the standard model expectation, as modeled by \texttt{PYTHIA} with \texttt{CTEQ5L} parton distribution functions.
The ttbar spin correlation at production is a fundamental prediction of QCD and a potentially incisive test of new physics coupled to top quarks. We measure the ttbar spin state in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using 1001 candidate events in the lepton plus jets decay channel reconstructed in the CDF II detector. In the helicity basis, for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV/c^2, we find a spin correlation coefficient kappa = 0.60 +/- 0.50 (stat) +/- 0.16 (syst), consistent with the QCD prediction, kappa ~= 0.40.

We select events in the dilepton final states ee, emu and mumu based on kinematical properties consistent with ttbar events. We measure the ttbar production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in the lepton+jets channel. Two complementary methods discriminate between signal and background, b-tagging and a kinematic likelihood discriminant. Based on 0.9 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we measure sigma_ttbar=7.62+/-0.85 pb, assuming the current world average m_t=172.6 GeV. We compare our cross section measurement with theory predictions to determine a value for the top quark mass of 170+/-7 GeV.
We analyze a sample of W + jet events collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV to study ttbar production. We employ a simple kinematical variable "H", defined as the scalar sum of the transverse energies of the lepton, neutrino and jets. For events with a W boson and four or more jets, the shape of the "H" distribution deviates by 3.8 standard deviations from that expected from known backgrounds to ttbar production. The data were collected by the Dzero experiment during the 1992-1996 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A total of 80 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 38.8 +- 3.3 events. We present a preliminary result on a search for narrow-width resonances that decay into ttbar pairs using 130 pb^{-1} of lepton plus jets data in ppbar collisions at center of mass energy = 1.8 TeV. No significant deviation from Standard Model prediction is observed. 95% C.L. upper limits on the production cross section of the narrow-width resonance times its branching fraction to ttbar are presented for different resonance masses, M_X. We also exclude the existence of a leptophobic topcolor particle, X, with M_X < 560 GeV/c^2 for a width Γ_X = 0.012 M_X.

We present measurements of asymmetries in angular distributions of leptons produced in ttbar events in proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider final states where the W bosons from top quark and antiquark decays both decay into l nu (l=e, mu) resulting in oppositely charged dilepton final states with accompanying jets. Using 9.7 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector, we find the asymmetries in lepton pseudorapidity compatible with predictions based on the standard model.

Two recent measurements by the D0 Collaboration of spin correlation in ttbar production using 5.4 fb^-1 of Tevatron ppbar collider data are presented. Both rely on the dilepton final state of ttbar. One measurement relies on full reconstruction of the top quark kinematics, and the other makes use of leading-order matrix elements to characterize the kinematics. The latter measurement is the first ever to have sufficient analyzing power to exclude the no-correlation hypothesis.

We describe a search for evidence of minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) in 92.7 pb^(-1) of data collected with the DØdetector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider at center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV. Events with a single electron, four or more jets, and large missing transverse energy were used in this search. The major backgrounds are from W+jets, misidentified multijet, ttbar, and WW production. We observe no excess above the expected number of background events in our data. We observe 39 ttbar candidate events in the dilepton and lepton+jets decay channels with an expected background of 13.7+-2.2 events. For a top quark mass of 173.3GeV/c^2, we measure the ttbar production cross section to be 5.5+-1.8 pb.
We present a new measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry in ttbar production in ppbar collisions in the lepton+jets channel at D0. We measure asymmetries from two different observables and unfold the data to allow the results to be compared to standard model predictions. For the unfolded asymmetry based on the Delta-y variable, we measure (19.6 +/- 6.5)%, compared with an MC@NLO-based prediction of (5.0 +/- 0.1)%. We also discuss the correlation between the asymmetry and the transverse momentum of the ttbar system.
We present a measurement of the mass of the top quark from ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV observed with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II. The events have the decay signature of ppbar to ttbar in the lepton plus jets channel in which at least one jet is identified as coming from a secondary vertex and therefore a b-hadron. The largest systematic uncertainty, the jet energy scale (JES), is convoluted with the statistical error using an in-situ measurement of the hadronic W boson mass. We present the first simultaneous measurement of the ratio of branching fractions, R=B(t->Wb)/B(t->Wq), with q being a d, s, or b quark, and the top quark pair production cross section sigma_ttbar in the lepton plus jets channel using 0.9 fb-1 of ppbar collision data at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector. We extract R and sigma_ttbar by analyzing samples of events with 0, 1 and >= 2 identified b jets. We measure R = 0.97 +0.09-0.08 (stat+syst) and sigma_ttbar = 8.18 +0.90-0.84 (stat+syst)} +/-0.50 (lumi) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction.
Using data corresponding to 6.0/fb of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector, we present a cross section measurement of top-quark pair production with an additional radiated photon. The events are selected by looking for a lepton, a photon, significant transverse momentum imbalance, large total transverse energy, and three or more jets, with at least one identified as containing a b quark. We present a measurement of the top quark mass in the all-hadronic channel (\tt $\to$ \bb$q_{1}\bar{q_{2}}q_{3}\bar{q_{4}}$) using 943 pb$^{-1}$ of \ppbar collisions at $\sqrt {s} = 1.96$ TeV collected at the CDF II detector at Fermilab (CDF). We apply the standard model production and decay matrix-element (ME) to $\ttbar$ candidate events. We calculate per-event probability densities according to the ME calculation and construct template models of signal and background. We report a measurement of the top quark mass using six candidate events for the process pbarp->ttbar->l^+ nu l^- nubar b bbar + X, observed in the D0 experiment at the Fermilab ppbar collider. Using maximum likelihood fits to the dynamics of the decays, we measure a mass for the top quark of m(top) = 168.4 +- 12.3 (stat) +- 3.6 (syst) GeV/c^2. We combine this result with our previous measurement in the ttbar->l+jets channel to obtain m(top) = 172.1 +- 7.1 GeV/c^2 as the best value of the mass of the top quark measured by D0.
We present a measurement of the top quark mass in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We present a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of pair-produced top quarks using 109.2 +- 5.8 pb^-1 of data recorded from ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV by the D0 detector during 1992-96 at the Fermilab Tevatron. No evidence is found for charged Higgs production, and most parts of the [m(H+),tan(beta)] parameter space where the decay t -> bH+ has a branching fraction close to or larger than that for t -> bW+ are excluded at 95% confidence level. Assuming m(t) = 175 GeV and sigma(ppbar -> ttbar) = 5.5 pb, for m(H+) = 60 GeV, we exclude tan(beta) < 0.97 and tan(beta) > 40.9.
This paper presents the latest measurements of the properties of the top quark as determined by the DZero and CDF collaborations at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. Both experiments have studied the all-hadronic decay mode of ttbar events. The top quark measurement has been refined over the past year, with the addition of new channels and a re-evaluation of some of the earlier ones. There are recent studies of the mass of the ttbar system, the helicity of the W bosons in the top quark decays, and of the correlation of the spins of the top and antitop quarks. Preliminary results from a search for high mass ttbar quark pair production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8TeV with the D0 detector in the ee+jets, emu+jets, and mumu+jets decay channels are presented. No conclusive evidence for top quark production for an integrated luminosity of 13.5+/-1.6pb-1 is observed.
We present a measurement of the mass difference between t and tbar quarks observed in lepton+jets final states of ttbar events in 1 fb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The observed mass difference of 3.8+-3.7 GeV is consistent with the equality of t and tbar masses. This is the first direct measurement of a mass difference between a quark and its antiquark partner.
We present a measurement of the ratio of top quark branching fractions R = B(t -> Wb)/B(t -> Wq), where q can be a d, s or b quark, in the lepton+jets and dilepton ttbar final states. The measurement uses data from 5.4 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We measure R = 0.90 +/- 0.04, and we extract the CKM matrix element |Vtb| as |Vtb| = 0.95 +/- 0.02, assuming unitarity of the 3x3 CKM matrix.
We report a measurement of the top quark mass using events collected by the CDF II Detector from ppbar collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. We calculate a likelihood function for the top mass in events that are consistent with ttbar->bbar l^- \nubar b l^+ νdecays. The likelihood is formed as the convolution of the leading-order matrix element and detector resolution functions.
