LS 5039 is one of the four TeV emitting X-ray binaries detected up to now. The powering source of its multi-wavelength emission can be accretion in a microquasar scenario or wind interaction in a young non-accreting pulsar scenario. These two scenarios predict different morphologic and peak position changes along the orbital cycle of 3.9 days, which can be tested at milliarcsecond scales using VLBI techniques. Here we present a campaign of 5 GHz VLBA observations conducted in June 2000 (2 runs five days apart). The results show a core component with a constant flux density, and a fast change in the morphology and the position angle of the elongated extended emission, but maintaining a stable flux density. These results are difficult to fit comfortably within a microquasar scenario, whereas they appear to be compatible with the predicted behavior for a non-accreting pulsar.
PS15dpn is a luminous rapidly rising Type Ibn supernova (SN) discovered by Pan-STARRS1 (PS1). Previous study showed that its bolometric light curve (LC) cannot be explained by the $^{56}$Ni model. In this paper, we used the $^{56}$Ni model, the magnetar model, the circumstellar interaction (CSI) model, and the CSI plus $^{56}$Ni model to fit the bolometric LC of PS15dpn. We found that the $^{56}$Ni model can fit the bolometric LC but the parameters are unrealistic, and that the magnetar model, the CSI model, and the CSI plus $^{56}$Ni model can match the data with reasonable parameters. The highest-energy blazars exhibit non-thermal radiation extending beyond 1 TeV with high luminosities and strong variabilities, indicating extreme particle acceleration in their relativistic jets. The gamma-ray spectra of blazars contain information about the distribution and cooling processes of high-energy particles in jets, the extragalactic background light between the source and the observer, and potentially, the environment of the gamma-ray emitting region and exotic physics that may modify the opacity of the universe to gamma rays. We use data from Fermi-LAT and VERITAS to study the va…
The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) gamma-ray observatory is carrying out a detailed survey of the northern sky at TeV energies. 2HWC J2006+341 is a newly discovered source reported by the point source search in the 2HWC HAWC Observatory Gamma Ray Catalog. Using $\sim$1038 days of HAWC data we carried out a detailed analysis of the region revealing extended emission. No emission has been detected by other TeV instruments at the location of 2HWC J2006+341. We also analyzed publicly available data from the \textit{Fermi}-LAT that show for the first time the existence of an extended GeV sour…
The Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) revealed that blazars, representing the most extreme radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN) population, dominate the census of the gamma-ray sky, and a significant correlation was found between radio and gamma-ray emission in the 0.1-100 GeV energy range. However, the possible connection between radio and very high energy (VHE, E>0.1 TeV) emission still remains elusive, owing to the lack of a homogeneous coverage of the VHE sky. The main goal of this work is to quantify and assess the significance of a possible connection between the radio emission on pars…
Blazars are among the most powerful accelerators and are expected to produce a bright TeV $γ$-ray flux. However, TeV $γ$-rays are attenuated by interactions with intergalactic radiation before reaching Earth. These interactions produce cascades that transfer TeV power into the GeV band, powering both extended halos around bright sources and a large contribution to the isotropic $γ$-ray background (IGRB). Using conservative blazar models and recent IGRB measurements, we rule out scenarios where blazars effectively transfer their multi-TeV power into GeV $γ$-rays. Three possible solutions includ…
Differential Sensitivity of the KM3NeT/ARCA detector to a diffuse neutrino flux and to point-like source emission: exploring the case of the Starburst Galaxies
HESS J1804-216 is one of the brightest yet most mysterious TeV gamma-ray sources discovered to date. Previous arc-minute scale studies of the interstellar medium (ISM) surrounding this TeV gamma-ray source revealed HESS J1804-216 is likely powered by a mature supernova remnant (SNR) or pulsar, hence its origin remains uncertain. In this paper, we focus on the diffusive escape of cosmic-ray protons from potential SNR accelerators. These cosmic rays interact with the ISM to produce TeV gamma-rays. We utilise the isotropic diffusion equation solution for particles escaping from a shell, to model …
Gamma Cygni is a young supernova remnant located in the Cygnus region. MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov) telescopes detected TeV emission (MAGIC J2019+408) to the north-west of this remnant, about 5 arcmin from its border. We want to identify the radio sources within the region encompassing gamma Cygni and MAGIC J2019+408 to shed light on their nature and investigate if these radio sources could be potential contributors to gamma-ray emission. We carried out a detailed study of the data we obtained with a survey of the Cygnus region at 325 and 610 MHz with the Giant Metrewave R…

One of the brightest regions of diffuse gamma-ray emission in the northern sky is the Cygnus star-forming region, where one can assume the most energetic processes are taking place. The Dragonfly Nebula (MGRO J2019+37) is one of the brightest sources in the Cygnus region. First discovered by MILAGRO, it was later resolved into two sources by VERITAS: the faint point-like source VER J2016+371 and the bright extended source VER J2019+368. The latter accounts for the bulk of the MGRO J2019+37 emission, with the spectrum among the hardest in the TeV range. We report the results of a dedicated MAGI…
Exploring the high energy frontiers of the Milky Way with ground-based gamma-ray astronomy: PeVatrons and the quest for the origin of Galactic cosmic-rays
Recent observations by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) have paved the way for the observational detection of PeVatrons in the Milky Way Galaxy, thus revolutionizing the field of $γ$-ray astrophysics. In this paper, we study one such detected source, LHAASO J1908+0621, and explore the origin of multi-TeV $γ$-ray emission from this source. A middle-aged radio supernova remnant SNR G40.5-0.5 and a GeV pulsar PSR J1907+0602 are co-spatial with LHAASO J1908+0621. Dense molecular clouds are also found to be associated with SNR G40.5-0.5. We explain the multi-TeV $γ$-ray emiss…
We reveal that the energy spectra of electrons-positrons in primary cosmic rays measured at atmosphere top have double structures: an excess component $Φ^s_{e^+}(E)=Φ^s_{e^-}(E)$ around $400 GeV$, which origins from a strong $e^+e^-$-source and the distorted background $Φ^0_{e^-}(E)$. We supposed that the difference between AMS-CALET and Fermi-LAT-DAMPE data origins from the energy loss of the fluxes due to the anomalous bremsstrahlung effect at a special window. The evolution of spectra under anomalous bremsstrahlung effect satisfies an improved electromagnetic cascade equation. The above spe…
We use a combination of high-resolution very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) radio and multi-wavelength flux density and polarization observations to constrain the physics of the dissipation mechanism powering the broadband flares in 3C 279 during an episode of extreme flaring activity in 2013-2014. Six bright flares superimposed on a long-term outburst are detected at $γ$-ray energies. Four of the flares have optical and radio counterparts. The two modes of flaring activity (faster flares sitting on top of a long term outburst) present at radio, optical, $γ$-ray frequencies are missing in…
AIMS: HESS J1844-030 is a newly confirmed TeV source in the direction of the X-ray pulsar wind nebula (PWN) candidate G29.4+0.1 and the complex radio source G29.37+0.1, which is likely formed by the superposition of a background radio galaxy and a Galactic supernova remnant (SNR). We investigate the possible connection between the SNR, the PWN G29.4+0.1, and HESS J1844-030 to shed light on the astrophysical origin of the TeV emission. METHODS: We performed an imaging and spectral study of the X-ray emission from the PWN G29.4+0.1 using archival observations obtained with the Chandra and XMM-Ne…
We present a search for continuous gravitational wave signals from an unidentified pulsar potentially powering HESS~J1427-608, a spatially unresolved TeV point source detected by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS). The search uses a semi-coherent algorithm, which combines the maximum likelihood $\mathcal{F}$~statistic with a hidden Markov model to efficiently detect and track quasi-monochromatic signals that wander randomly in frequency. It uses data from the second observing run of the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. Multi-wavelength observations of the H…
We present broadband spectral energy distributions (SEDs) and light curves of the gamma-ray binary 1FGL J1018.6$-$5856 measured in the X-ray and the gamma-ray bands. We find that the orbital modulation in the low-energy gamma-ray band is similar to that in the X-ray band, suggesting a common spectral component. However, above a GeV the orbital light curve changes significantly. We suggest that the GeV band contains significant flux from a pulsar magnetosphere, while the X-ray to TeV light curves are dominated by synchrotron and Compton emission from an intrabinary shock (IBS). We find that a s…
PSR J1809-1917 is a young ($τ=51$ kyr) energetic ($\dot{E}=1.8\times10^{36}$ erg s$^{-1}$) radio pulsar powering an X-ray pulsar wind nebula (PWN) that exhibits morphological variability. We report on the results of a new monitoring campaign by the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO), carried out across 6 epochs with a $\sim$7-week cadence. The compact nebula can be interpreted as a jet-dominated outflow along the pulsar's spin axis. Its variability can be the result of Doppler boosting in the kinked jet whose shape changes with time (akin to the Vela pulsar jet). The deep X-ray image, composed of…
MAGIC is one of the main instruments for exploring the galactic gamma-ray sky from ground in the energy range of 50 GeV - 50 TeV. It consists of two 17 m diameter imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, on the Canary island of La Palma. Thanks to its excellent sensitivity, MAGIC has conducted relevant studies on galactic objects of different types at Very High Energies. Among them, the Crab pulsar up to TeV energies, the spectral cut-off of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A, the super-orbital variability of the binary system LSI +61 303, the…
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been considered as potential very high-energy photon emitters due to the large amount of energy released as well as the strong magnetic fields involved in their jets. However, the detection of TeV photons is not expected from bursts beyond a redshift of $z\gtrsim 0.1$ due to their attenuation with the extragalactic background light (EBL). For these reasons, the recent observation of photons with energies of 18 and 251 TeV from GRB 221009A (z=0.151) last October 9th, 2022 has challenged what we know about the TeV-emission mechanisms and the extragalactic background.…
Extremely High energy peaked BL Lac (EHBL) objects are a special class of blazars with peculiar observational properties at X-ray and $γ$--ray energies. The observations of these sources indicate hard X-ray and $γ$--ray spectra and absence of rapid flux variations in the multi-wavelength light curves. These observational features challenge the leptonic models for blazars due to unusually hard particle spectrum in the emission region of the blazar jet and provide a strong motivation for exploring alternative scenarios to interpret the broad-band emission from blazars. At present, only few TeV b…
