A stochastic background of relic gravitational waves is achieved by the so called adiabatically-amplified zero-point fluctuations process derived from early inflation. It provides a distinctive spectrum of relic gravitational waves. In the framework of scalar-tensor gravity, we discuss the scalar modes of gravitational waves and the primordial production of this scalar component which is generated beside tensorial one. Then we analyze different viable $f(R)$-gravities towards the Solar System tests and stochastic gravitational waves background. The aim is to achive experimental bounds for the …
We analyze the gravitational waves within the Spinor Theory of Gravity and compare it with the General Relativity proposal. In the case of STG a gravitational wave may occur if the effective gravitational metric induced by the spinorial field is Ricci flat.
Gravity-induced quantum interference is an experiment that exhibits how a gravitational effect appears in quantum mechanics. In this famous experiments gravity was added to the system just classically. In our study we do the related calculations on a gravitational wave background. We realize that the effect of gravitational wave would be detectable in this quantum mechanical effect.
The gravitational weak field of a global monopole in the Einstein-Cartan theory of gravity is investigated. To obtain this solution we assume that Cartan torsion takes the form of the Newtonian gravitational potential. From the geodesics it is possible to show that the torsionic monopole produces a repulsive gravitational force.
Strictly respecting the Einstein equations and supposing space-time is a medium, we derive the deformation of this medium by gravity. We derive the deformation in case of infinite plane, Robertson-Walker manifold, Schwarzschild manifold and gravitational waves. Some singularities are removed or changed. We call this procedure renormalization of gravity. We show that some results following from the classical gravity must be modified.
Loop Quantum Gravity is a theory that attempts to describe the quantum mechanics of the gravitational field based on the canonical quantization of General Relativity. According to Loop Quantum Gravity, in a gravitational field, geometric quantities such as area and volume are quantized in terms of the Planck lenth. In this paper we present the basic ideas for a future, mathematically more rigorous, attempt to combine black holes and gravitational waves using the quantization of geometric quantities introduced by Loop Quantum Gravity.
Model of gravitational collapse of anisotropic compact stars in a new theory of $ f(R) $ gravity has been developed. The author considers the modified gravity model of $ f(R) = ξR^4 $ to investigate a physically acceptable model of gravitational collapse of anisotropic compact stars. First, the author presents a brief review of the development of field equations of gravitational collapse in $ f(R) $ gravity for a particular interior metric for compact stars. Then analytical solutions for various physical quantities of collapsing anisotropic compact stars in $ ξR^4 $ gravity have been developed…
First, we obtain the plane wave solution of the linearized massive conformal gravity field equations. It is shown that the theory has seven physical plane waves. In addition, we investigate the gravitational radiation from binary systems in massive conformal gravity. We find that the theory with large graviton mass can reproduce the orbit of binaries by the emission of gravitational waves.
Gravitational waves are rapidly becoming a very reliable tool for testing alternative theories of gravity. In particular, features in the gravitational wave emission during black hole ringdown phase provide a direct probe of the spacetime outside the black hole. In this article, we consider black holes in ghost-free massive gravity. These black holes generically have scalar hair. We found that a simple coupling between gravitational perturbations and this scalar hair can change the quasinormal ringing of the black hole, and in particular, produce echoes in the emitted gravitational waves. This…

The main objective of this work is to study in some detail the Randall-Sundrum gravity under the gravitational decoupling through the minimal geometric deformation approach (MGD-decoupling). We show a family of new black hole solutions as well as new exact interior solutions for self-gravitating stellar systems and we discuss the corresponding matching conditions.
The conserved quantities, that are, gravitational energy-momentum and its relevant quantities are investigated for cylindrical and spherical gravitational waves in the framework of teleparallel equivalent of General Relativity using the Hamiltonian approach. For both cylindrical and spherical gravitational waves, we obtain definite energy and constant momentum. The constant momentum shows consistency with the results available in General Relativity and teleparallel gravity. The angular momentum for cylindrical and spherical gravitational waves also turn out to be constant. Further, we evaluate…

Alternative theories of gravity predict the presence of massive scalar, vector, and tensor gravitational wave modes in addition to the standard massless spin~2 graviton of general relativity. The deflection and frequency shift effects on light from distant sources propagating through a stochastic background of gravitational waves, containing such modes, differ from their counterparts in general relativity. Such effects are considered as a possible signature for alternative gravity in attempts to detect deviations from Einstein's gravity by astrophysical means.

We introduce a new approach for investigating the weak field limit of vacuum field equations in $f(R)$ gravity and we find the weak field limit of $f(R)=R+μ^4/R$ gravity. Furthermore, we study the strong gravity regime in $R+μ^{4}/R$ model of $f(R)$ gravity. We show the existence of strong gravitational field in vacuum for such model. We find out in the limit $μ\rightarrow 0$, the weak field limit and the strong gravitational field can be regarded as a perturbed Schwarzschild metric.
We analyse the Dirac equation for slow fermions coupled to linearised massive gravity above the Minkowski background and derive the effective low-energy gravitational potential. The obtained results can be used in terrestrial laboratories for the detection of gravitational waves and fluxes of massive gravitons emitted by cosmological objects. We also calculate the neutron spin precession within linearised massive gravity, which in principle can be measured by neutron interferometers.
The transformation properties of the gravitational energy-momentum in the teleparallel gravity are analyzed. It is proved that the gravitational energy-momentum in the teleparallel gravity can be expressed in terms of the Lorentz gauge potential, and therefore is not covariant under local Lorentz transformations. On the other hand, it can also be expressed in terms of the translation gauge field strength, and therefore is covariant under general coordinate transformations. A simplified Hamiltonian formulation of the teleparallel gravity is given. Its constraint algebra has the same structure a…
We analyze detector responses of gravitational wave detectors for gravitational waves with arbitrary polarizations predicted in the metric theories of gravity. We present the general formulas for the frequency responses valid in various interferometric arrangements including Michelson, Delay-Line and Fabry-Perot detectors. We analyze the angular and frequency behavior and the sensitivity patterns of the responses for each polarization mode.

By making use of the weak gravitational field approximation, we obtain a linearized solution of the gravitational vacuum field equation in an anisotropic spacetime. The plane-wave solution and dispersion relation of gravitational wave is presented explicitly. There is possibility that the speed of gravitational wave is larger than the speed of light and the casuality still holds. We show that the energy-momentum of gravitational wave in the ansiotropic spacetime is still well defined and conserved.
The question of the correspondence between the number of degrees of freedom and the number of polarization states in hybrid metric-Palatini f(R)-gravity is considered. It is shown that the scalar transverse breathing and longitudinal modes are a mixture of one polarization state. The speed of gravitational waves propagation in hybrid f(R)-gravity is calculated.

Spherical gravitational wave is strictly forbidden in vacuum space in frame of general relativity by the Birkhoff theorem. We prove that spherical gravitational waves do exist in non-linear massive gravity, and find the exact solution. Further more, we find exact gravitational wave solution with a singular string by meticulous studies of familiar equation, in which the horizon becomes non-compact. We analyze the properties of the congruence of graviton rays of these wave solution. We clarify subtle points of dispersion relation, velocity and mass of graviton in massive gravity with linear pert…
Expression for second post-Newtonian level gravitational deflection angle of massive particles is obtained in a model independent framework. Several of its important implications including the possibility of testing gravitational theories at that level are discussed.
Recently, in Phys. Rev. D 98, 084002 (2018), an investigation was carried out on the gravitational radiation from binary systems in conformal gravity and massive conformal gravity. According to the authors of the paper, these two theories differ only by the sign of a parameter in the matter action of a general conformal theory. For a negative parameter the general conformal theory indeed corresponds to conformal gravity. However, here, we argue that for a positive parameter the general conformal theory does not correspond to massive conformal gravity.
As a consequence of the extreme precision of the measurements it performs, an interferometric gravitational wave detector is a macroscopic apparatus for which quantum effects are not negligible. I observe that this property can be exploited to probe some aspects of the interplay between Quantum Mechanics and Gravity.
In this paper, we study the properties of gravitational waves in the scalar-tensor-vector gravity theory. The polarizations of the gravitational waves are investigated by analyzing the relative motion of the test particles. It is found that the interaction between the matter and vector field in the theory leads to two additional transverse polarization modes. By making use of the polarization content, the stress-energy pseudo-tensor is calculated by employing the perturbed equation method. Besides, the relaxed field equation for the modified gravity in question is derived by using the Landau-L…
For testing gravity and detecting gravitational waves in space, deep-space laser ranging using drag-free spacecraft is a common method. Deep space provides a large arena and a long integration time. Laser technology provides measurement sensitivity, while drag-free technology ensures that gravitational phenomenon to be measured with least spurious noises. In this talk, we give an overview of motivations and methods of various space missions/proposals testing relativistic gravity and detecting gravitational waves, and refer to various references.
We present a set of equations describing the cosmological gravitational wave in a gravity theory with quadratic order gravitational coupling terms which naturally arise in quantum correction procedures. It is known that the gravitational wave equation in the gravity theories with a general $f(R)$ term in the action leads to a second order differential equation with the only correction factor appearing in the damping term. The case for a $R^{ab} R_{ab}$ term is completely different. The gravitational wave is described by a fourth order differential equation both in time and space. However, curi…
External gravitational fields induce phase factors in the wave functions of particles. The phases are exact to first order in the background gravitational field, are manifestly covariant and gauge invariant and provide a useful tool for the study of spin-gravity coupling and of the optics of particles in gravitational or inertial fields. We discuss the role that spin-gravity coupling plays in particular problems.
Quadratic curvature gravity equations are projected to a complex null coframe by using the algebra of exterior forms and expressed in terms of the spinor quantities defined originally by Newman and Penrose. As an application, a new family of impulsive gravitational wave solutions propagating in various type D backgrounds is introduced.
We compute analytically the tidal field and polarizations of an exact gravitational wave generated by a cylindrical beam of null matter of finite width and length in quadratic curvature gravity. We propose that this wave can represent the gravitational wave that keep up with the high energy photons produced in a gamma ray burst (GRB) source.

In principle, it provides a distinctive spectrum of relic gravitational waves. Loop Quantum Gravity is a formalism for describing the quantum mechanics of the gravitational field based on the canonical quantization of General Relativity. The most important result of LQG is that geometric quantities such as area and volume are not arbitrary but are quantized in terms of a minimum length. In this paper we investigate the effect of a minimum length in wave propagation. We find that the minimum length, combined with the constancy of the speed of light, induces a quantization of the energy of a gravitational wave.
We argue that if particularly powerful electromagnetic afterglows of the gravitational waves bursts will be observed in the future, this could be used as a strong observational support for some suggested quantum alternatives for black holes (e.g., firewalls and gravastars). A universal absence of powerful afterglows should be taken as a suggestive argument against such hypothetical quantum-gravity objects.

Brans-Dicke gravity admits spherical solutions describing naked singularities rather than black holes. Depending on some parameters entering such a solution, stable circular orbits exist for all radius. One argues that, despite the fact that the naked singularity is an infinite redshift location, the far observed orbital motion frequency is unbounded for an adiabatically decreasing radius. This is a salient difference with General Relativity, and the incidence on the gravitational radiation by EMRI systems is stressed. Since this behaviour survives the infinite omega limit, the possibility of …
The observation of gravitational waves with a global network of interferometric detectors such as advanced LIGO, advanced Virgo, and KAGRA will make it possible to probe into the nature of space-time structure. Besides Einstein's general theory of relativity, there are several theories of gravitation that passed experimental tests so far. The gravitational-wave observation provides a new experimental test of alternative theories of gravity because a gravitational wave may have at most six independent modes of polarization, of which properties and number of modes are dependent on theories of gr…
A specific choice of gauge is shown to imply a decoupling between the tensor and scalar components of Gravitational Radiation in the context of Brans-Dicke type theories of gravitation. The comparison of the predictions of these theories with those of General Relativity is thereby made straightforward.
The R^{2}-gravity contribution to energy loss of a hot plasma due to the gravitational bremsstrahlung is calculated in the linearized theory on the basis of classical Coulomb scattering of plasma constituents in small-angle scattering approximation. The explicit dependence of the gravitational luminosity on the plasma temperature is derived and its relevance to the Einstein gravity is demonstrated. The result when applied to the Sun as a hot plasma, shows very good agreement with available data.
The cosmological background of gravitational waves can be tuned by the higher-order corrections to the gravitational Lagrangian. In particular, it can be shown that assuming $R^{1+ε}$, where $ε$ indicates a generic (eventually small) correction to the Hilbert-Einstein action in the Ricci scalar $R$, gives a parametric approach to control the evolution and the production mechanism of gravitational waves in the early Universe.
A possible deviation from the precession of the Gravity Probe-B gyroscope predicted by general relativity is obtained in the nonsymmetric gravity theory. The time delay of radio signals emitted by spacecraft at planetary distances from the Sun, in nonsymmetric gravity theory is the same as in general relativity. A correction to the precession of the gyroscope would provide a possible experimental signature for the Gravity Probe-B gyroscope experiment. The Lense-Thirring frame-dragging effect is predicted to be the same as in GR.
Extended Theories of Gravity are considered as a new approach for solving the infrared and ultraviolet scale problems of the Standard Theory of Gravity (General Relativity). Observational evidence of gravitational waves and subsequent identification of the number of existing polarizations are an effective tool for testing general relativity and extended theories of gravity. The Newman-Penrose method is used to characterize the polarization modes for specific forms of $ f(R) $ in the present study. Both the forms of the $ f(R) $ theory belong to a far more general variational class of gravitati…
We study the gravitational waves in modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity. Applying the metric perturbation around a cosmological background, we obtain explicit expressions for the wave equations. It is shown that the speed of the traceless mode is equal to the speed of light. An additional massive scalar mode appears in the propagation of the gravitational waves. To find phenomena beyond the general relativity the scalar mode mass is calculated as a function of the background curvature in some typical models.
It is well-known that energy-momentum is the source of gravitational field. For a long time, it is generally believed that only stars with huge masses can generate strong gravitational field. Based on the unified theory of gravitational interactions and electromagnetic interactions, a new mechanism of the generation of gravitational field is studied. According to this mechanism, in some special conditions, electromagnetic energy can be directly converted into gravitational energy, and strong gravitational field can be generated without massive stars. Gravity impulse found in experiments is gen…

We will compute the baryon-to-entropy ratio in the chosen framework and investigate its physical viability against the observational bounds. We also conduct the above study for various sources of matter like scalar field and Chaplygin gas as specific examples. We speculate that quantum corrections from the background geometry will lead to interestin…
We have studied the gravitational baryogenesis in f(R) theory of gravity with an anisotropic Bianchi I space-time. The matter field is considered to be that of perfect fluid. Two models pertaining to specific form of Ricci scalar have been presented. The baryon-to-entropy ratio has been derived with the some specific form of Ricci scalar in the anisotropic background. The gravitational baryogenesis is examined and its behaviors are studied.

We discuss the possibility that gravitational fluctuations ("gravitational-waves") are trapped in space by gravitational interactions in two dimensional Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. In the standard geon (gravitational electromagnetic entity) approach, the effective energy is entirely deposited in a thin layer, the active region, that achieves spatial self-confinement and raises doubts about the geon's stability. In this paper we relinquish the "active region" approach and obtain self-confinement of "gravitational waves" that are trapped by the vacuum geometry and can be stable against the backre…
We investigate axion inflation where the gravitational Chern-Simons term is coupled to a periodic function of the inflaton. We find that tensor perturbations with different polarizations are amplified in different ways by the Chern-Simons coupling. Depending on the model parameters, the resonance amplification results in a parity-violating peak or a board plateau in the energy spectrum of gravitational waves, and the sharp cutoff in the infrared region constitutes a characteristic distinguishable from stochastic gravitational wave backgrounds produced by matter fields in Einstein gravity.

Applications are made in several inflation models based on the scalar-tensor theory, the induced gravity, and the low energy effective action of string theory. The gravitational wave power spectrums based on the vacuum expectation value of the quantized fluctuating metric during the pole-like inflation stages are derived in analytic forms. According to Verlinde's recent proposal, the gravity is originally an entropic force. In this work, we obtain the corrections to the entropy-area law of black holes within rainbow gravity. The corrected entropy-area law leads to the modifications of the number of bits $N$. Inspired by Verlinde's argument on the entropic force, and using the modified number of bits, we can investigate the effects of rainbow gravity on the modified Newtonian dynamics, Newton's law of gravitation, and Einstein's general relativity in entropic force approach.
We show that from the R^{2} high order gravity theory it is possible to produce, in the linearized approch, particles which can be seen like massive modes of gravitational waves (GWs). The presence of the mass generates a longitudinal force in addition of the transverse one which is proper of the massless gravitational waves and the response an interferometer to the effect is computed. This could be, in principle, important to discriminate among the gravity theories. The presence of the mass could also have important applications in cosmology because the fact that gravitational waves can have …
