We study shot noise in tunneling current through a double quantum dot connected to two electric leads. We derive two master equations in the occupation-state basis and the eigenstate basis to describe the electron dynamics. The approach based on the occupation-state basis, despite widely used in many previous studies, is valid only when the interdot coupling strength is much smaller than the energy difference between the two dots. In contrast, the calculations using the eigenstate basis are valid for an arbitrary interdot coupling. We show that the master equation in the occupation-state basis includes only the low-order terms with respect to the interdot coupling compared with the more accurate master equation in the eigenstate basis. Using realistic model parameters, we demonstrate that the predicted currents and shot-noise properties from the two approaches are significantly different when the interdot coupling is not small. Furthermore, properties of the shot noise predicted using the eigenstate basis successfully reproduce qualitative features found in a recent experiment.
The master equation describing the non-equilibrium dynamics of a quantum dot coupled to metallic leads is considered. Employing a superoperator approach, we derive an exact time-convolutionless master equation for the probabilities of dot states, i.e., a time-convolutionless Pauli master equation. The generator of this master equation is derived order by order in the hybridization between dot and leads. Although the generator turns out to be closely related to the T-matrix expressions for the transition rates, which are plagued by divergences, in the time-convolutionless generator all divergen…
An important class of approaches to the description of electronic transport through molecules and quantum dots is based on the master equation. We discuss various formalisms for deriving a master equation and their interrelations. It is shown that the master equations derived by Wangsness, Bloch, and Redfield and by Koenig et al. are equivalent. The roles of the large-reservoir and Markov approximations are clarified. The Markov approximation is traced back to nonzero bias voltage and temperature, whereas interactions and the corresponding rapid relaxation in the leads are shown to be irreleva…
The time-convolutionless quantum master equation is an exact description of the nonequilibrium dynamics of open quantum systems, with the advantage of being local in time. We derive a perturbative expansion to arbitrary order in the system-reservoir coupling for its generator, which contains significantly fewer terms than the ordered-cumulant expansion. We show that the derived expansion also admits a simple recursive formulation. The derived series is then used to describe the nonequilibrium dynamics of a quantum dot, including coherences. We find a relation between the generator and a genera…
We analytically investigate a non-equilibrium quantum pumping for a single quantum dot connected to external leads on the basis of the quantum master equation (QME). We show that the Coulomb interaction associated with the spin effect in the dot induces the Berry-like phase in the parameter space and this phase results in the excess charge transfer for the cyclic modulation of parameters in leads. We obtain an analytical expression of the curvature of the phase and that for the pumped currents.
The operation of a source of entangled electron spins, based on a superconductor and two quantum dots in parallel\cite{loss}, is described in detail with the help of quantum master equations. These are derived including the main parasitic processes in a fully consistent and non-perturbative way, starting from a microscopic Hamiltonian. The average current is calculated, including the contribution of entangled and non-entangled pairs. The constraints on the operation of the device are illustrated by a calculation of the various charge state probabilities.
We study sharp peaks in the conductance-voltage characteristics of a double quantum dot and a quantum dot spin-valve that are located around zero bias. The peaks share similarities with a Kondo peak but can be clearly distinguished, in particular as they occur at high temperatures. The underlying physical mechanism is a strong current suppression that is quenched in bias-voltage dependent ways by exchange interactions. Our theoretical results are based on the quantum master equation methodology, including the Born-Markov approximation and a numerically exact, hierarchical scheme, which we exte…
A quantum master equation (QME) is derived for the many-body density matrix of an open current-carrying system weakly coupled to two metal leads. The dynamics and the steady-state properties of the system for arbitrary bias are studied using projection operator techniques, which keep track of number of electrons in the system. We show that coherences between system states with different number of electrons, n, (Fock space coherences) do not contribute to the transport to second order in system-lead coupling. However, coherences between states with the same n may effect transport properties whe…
The interplay between interference effects and electron-electron interactions in electron transport through an interacting double quantum dot system is investigated using a hierarchical quantum master equation approach which becomes exact if carried to infinite order and converges well if the temperature is not too low. Decoherence due to electron-electron interactions is found to give rise to pronounced negative differential resistance, enhanced broadening of structures in current-voltage characteristics and an inversion of the electronic population. Dependence on gate voltage is shown to be …
In this article, we report the recent progress on decoherence dynamics of electrons in quantum dot quantum computing systems using the exact master equation we derived recently based on the Feynman-Vernon influence functional approach. The exact master equation is valid for general nanostructure systems coupled to multi-reservoirs with arbitrary spectral densities, temperatures and biases. We take the double quantum dot charge qubit system as a specific example, and discuss in details the decoherence dynamics of the charge qubit under coherence controls. The decoherence dynamics risen from the…
We report an observation of charge conservation breaking in a model study of electronic current noise of transport through a dissipative double quantum dot within generalized master equation formalism. We study the current noise through a double quantum dot coupled to two electronic leads in the high bias limit and a dissipative heat bath in the weak coupling limit. Our calculations are based on the solution of a Markovian generalized master equation. Zero-frequency component of the current noise calculated within the system, i.e., between the two dots, via the quantum regression theorem exhib…
We construct a number($n$)-resolved master equation (ME) approach under self-consistent Born approximation (SCBA) for noise spectrum calculation. The formulation is essentially non-Markovian and incorporates properly the interlay of the multi-tunneling processes and many-body correlations. We apply this approach to the challenging nonequilibrium Kondo system and predict a profound nonequilibrium Kondo signature in the shot noise spectrum. The proposed $n$-SCBA-ME scheme goes completely beyond the scope of the Born-Markovian master equation approach, in the sense of being applicable to the shot…
We investigate to which extent a many-body Bloch-Redfield master equation description of quantum transport is consistent with the exact generalized equilibrium conditions known as exchange fluctuation theorems. Thereby we identify a class of master equations for which this is the case. Beyond this class, we find deviations which exhibit characteristic scaling laws as functions of the dot-lead tunneling, the inter-dot tunneling, and the temperature. These deviations are accompanied by an increase of lead energy fluctuations inherent in the Bloch-Redfield equation beyond rotating-wave approximat…
The superconducting reservoir effect on the current carrying transport of a double quantum dot in Markovian regime is investigated. For this purpose, a quantum master equation (QME) at finite temperature is derived for the many-body density matrix of an open quantum system. The dynamics and the steady-state properties of the double quantum dot system for arbitrary bias are studied. We will show that how the populations and coherencies of the system states are affected by superconducting leads. The energy parameter of system contains essentially four contributions due to dots system-electrodes …
Coulomb coupled quantum dot arrays with staircase ground state configuration have been proposed in literature for enhancing heat-harvesting and refrigeration performance. However, due to their mutual Coulomb interaction, a performance analysis of such systems remains complicated and necessitates consideration of microscopic physics using density matrix formulation. However the path of device analysis starting from the system Hamiltonian to density matrix formulation is complicated and lacks the simplicity and intuitive aspect of sequential electron transport conveyed by the quantum master equa…
Recently, novel Coulomb drag mechanisms in capacitively coupled double quantum dots were uncovered by the T-matrix based master equation (TME). The TME is so far the primary approach to studying Coulomb drag in the weak-coupling regime; however, its accuracy and reliability remain unexplored. Here, we evaluate the performance of the TME for Coulomb drag via a comparison with numerically exact results obtained by the hierarchical equation-of-motion approach. We find that the TME can capture qualitative current evolutions versus dot levels, temperature, and effective coupling strengths, but only…
We develop a versatile master equation approach to describe the non-equilibrium dynamics of a two-level system in contact with a bosonic environment, which allows for the exploration of a wide range of parameter regimes within a single formalism. As an experimentally relevant example, we apply this technique to the study of excitonic Rabi rotations in a driven quantum dot, and compare its predictions to the numerical Feynman integral approach. We find excellent agreement between the two methods across a generally difficult range of parameters. In particular, the variational master equation tec…
We have investigated the noise properties of the tunneling current through vertically coupled self-assembled InAs quantum dots. We observe super-Poissonian shot noise at low temperatures. For increased temperature this effect is suppressed. The super-Poissonian noise is explained by capacitive coupling between different stacks of quantum dots.
We analyze the influence of noise for qubits implemented using a triple quantum dot spin system. We give a detailed description of the physical realization and develop error models for the dominant external noise sources. We use a Davies master equation approach to describe their influence on the qubit. The triple dot system contains two meaningful realizations of a qubit: We consider a subspace and a subsystem of the full Hilbert space to implement the qubit. We test the robustness of these two implementations with respect to the qubit stability. When performing the noise analysis, we extract…
We study coherent transport through a double quantum dot. Its two electronic leads induce electronic matter and energy transport and a phonon reservoir contributes further energy exchanges. By treating the system-lead couplings perturbatively, whereas the coupling to vibrations is treated non-perturbatively in a polaron-transformed frame, we derive a thermodynamic consistent low-dimensional master equation. When the number of phonon modes is finite, a Markovian description is only possible when these couple symmetrically to both quantum dots. For a continuum of phonon modes however, also asymm…
The spin-dependent dynamical blockade was investigated in a lateral quantum dot in a magnetic field. Spin-polarized edge channels in the two-dimensional leads and the spatial distribution of Landau orbitals in the dot modulate the tunnel coupling of the quantum dot level spectrum. In a measurement of the electron shot noise we observe a pattern of super-Poissonian noise which is correlated to the spin-dependent competition between different transport channels.
We study electron transport through a quantum dot, connected to non-magnetic leads, in a magnetic field. A super-Poissonian electron noise due to the effects of both interacting localized states and dynamic channel blockade is found when the Coulomb blockade is partially lifted. This is sharp contrast to the sub-Poissonian shot noise found in the previous studies for a large bias voltage, where the Coulomb blockade is completely lifted. Moreover, we show that the super-Poissonian shot noise can be suppressed by applying an electron spin resonance (ESR) driving field. For a sufficiently strong …
We report our studies of the shot noise spectrum in tunneling through an interacting quantum dot when an additional single-level quantum dot without tunnel coupling to leads is coherently side-connected to it. We show that the zero-frequency shot noise could reach a super-Poissonian value for appropriate ratios between dot-dot hoppings and dot-lead couplings, but the current is independent on the hopping. Moreover, the frequency spectrum of shot noise shows an obvious peak at the Rabi frequency, which is controllable by tuning the dot-lead couplings.
We investigate the zero-frequency shot noise of electronic tunneling through a single quantum dot (SQD) and coherently coupled quantum dots (CQD) taking into account the Coulomb interaction. Within Hartree-Fock approximation, the analytical expressions of current and zero-frequency shot noise are self-consistently derived in the framework of full counting statistics for the both systems. We demonstrate that the correction term of zero-frequency shot noise induced by the intradot Coulomb interaction is almost negligible compared to the noninteracting shot noise in a SQD, while in a CQD the inte…
The shot noise in the current through a quantum dot is calculated as a function of voltage from the high-voltage, Coulomb blockaded regime to the low-voltage, Kondo regime. Using several complementary approaches, it is shown that the zero-frequency shot noise (scaled by the voltage) exhibits a non-monotonic dependence on voltage, with a peak around the Kondo temperature. Beyond giving a good estimate of the Kondo temperature, it is shown that the shot noise yields additional information on the effects of electronic correlations on the local density of states in the Kondo regime, unaccessible i…
We investigate shot noise of photon-excited electron-hole pairs in open multi-terminal, multi-channel chaotic dots. Coulomb interactions in the dot are treated self-consistently giving a gauge-invariant expression for the finite frequency correlations. The Coulomb interactions decrease the noise, the strong interaction limit coincides with the non-interacting adiabatic limit. Inelastic scattering and dephasing in the dot are described by voltage and dephasing probe models respectively. We find that dephasing leaves the noise invariant, but inelastic scattering decreases correlations eventually…
The low-frequency shot noise properties of two electrostatically coupled semiconductor quantum dot states which are connected to emitter/collector contacts are studied. A master equation approach is used to analyze the bias voltage dependence of the Fano factor as a measure of temporal correlations in tunneling current caused by Pauli's exclusion principle and the Coulomb interaction. In particular, the influence of the Coulomb interaction on the shot noise behavior is discussed in detail and predictions for future experiments will be given. Furthermore, we propose a mechanism for negative dif…
We investigate shot noise for quantum dots whose classical phase space consists of both regular and chaotic regions. The noise is systematically suppressed below the universal value of fully chaotic systems, by an amount which varies with the positions of the leads. We analyze the dynamical origin of this effect by a novel way to incorporate diffractive impurity scattering. The dependence of the shot noise on the scattering rate shows that the suppression arises due to the deterministic nature of transport through regular regions and along short chaotic trajectories. Shot noise can be used to …
We analyze the frequency-dependent noise of a current through a quantum dot which is coupled to Fermi leads and which is in the Coulomb blockade regime. We show that the asymmetric shot noise as function of frequency shows steps and becomes super-Poissonian. This provides experimental access to the quantum fluctuations of the current. We present an exact calculation for a single dot level and a perturbative evaluation of the noise in Born approximation (sequential tunneling regime but without Markov approximation) for the general case of many levels with charging interaction.
We investigate the noise properties of a GaAs-AlAs-GaAs tunneling structure with embedded self-assembled InAs quantum dots in the single-electron tunneling regime. We analyze the dependence of the relative noise amplitude of the shot noise on bias voltage. We observe a non-monotonic behaviour of the Fano-factor $α$ with an average value of $α\approx 0.8$ consistent with the asymmetry of the tunneling barriers. Reproducible fluctuations observed in $α$ can be attributed to the successive participation of more and more InAs quantum dots in the tunneling current.
In this paper we investigate the spin-current and its shot-noise spectrum in a single-molecule quantum dot coupled with a local phonon mode. We pay special attention on the effect of phonon on the quantum transport property. The spin-polarization dependent current is generated by a rotating magnetic filed applied in the quantum dot. Our results show the remarkable influence of phonon mode on the zero-frequency shot noise. The electron-phonon interaction leads to sideband peaks which are located exactly on the integer number of the phonon frequency and moreover the peak-height is sensitive to t…
We examine the shot noise spectrum properties of coherent resonant tunneling in coupled quantum dots in both series and parallel arrangements by means of quantum rate equations and MacDonald's formula. Our results show that, for a series-CQD with a relatively high dot-dot hopping $Ω$, $Ω/Γ\gtrsim 1$ ($Γ$ denotes the dot-lead tunnel-coupling strength), the noise spectrum exhibits a dip at the Rabi frequency, $2Ω$, in the case of noninteracting electrons, but the dip is supplanted by a peak in the case of strong Coulomb repulsion; furthermore, it becomes a dip again for a completely symmetric pa…
Using the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green function technique, we study the current and shot noise spectroscopy of a single molecular quantum dot coupled to a local phonon mode. It is found that in the presence of electron-phonon coupling, in addition to the resonant peak associated with the single level of the dot, satellite peaks with the separation set by the frequency of phonon mode appear in the differential conductance. In the ``single level'' resonant tunneling region, the differential shot noise power exhibit two split peaks. However, only single peaks show up in the ``phonon assisted'' re…
We report shot noise spectroscopy on a semiconductor quantum dot in a cotunneling regime. The DC conductance measurements show clear signatures of both elastic and inelastic cotunneling transport inside a Coulomb diamond. We observed Poissonian shot noise with the Fano factor $F\approx 1$ in the elastic cotunneling regime, and super-Poissonian Fano factor $1<F<3$ in the inelastic cotunneling regime. The differences in the value of the Fano factor between elastic and inelastic processes reveal the microscopic mechanisms involved in the cotunneling transport.
We study shot noise in the current of quantum dots whose low-energy behaviour corresponds to an SU(N) Kondo model, focusing on the case N=4 relevant to carbon nanotube dots. For general N, two-particle Fermi liquid interactions have two distinct effects: they can enhance the noise via back-scattering processes with an N-dependent effective charge, and can also modify the coherent partition noise already present without interactions. For N=4, in contrast to the SU(2) case, interactions enhance shot noise solely through an enhancement of partition noise. This leads to a non-trivial prediction fo…
A semiconductor quantum dot (QD) embedded within an optical microcavity is a system of fundamental importance within quantum information processing. The optimization of quantum coherence is crucial in such applications, requiring an in-depth understanding of the relevant decoherence mechanisms. We provide herein a critical review of prevalent theoretical treatments of the QD-cavity system coupled to longitudinal acoustic phonons, comparing predictions against a recently obtained exact solution. Within this review we consider a range of temperatures and exciton-cavity coupling strengths. Predic…
Using the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green function technique, we study the current and shot noise spectroscopy of a single interacting quantum dot coupled to two ferromagnetic leads with different polarizations. The polarizations of leads can be both parallel and antiparallel alignments. General formulas of current and shot noise are obtained, which can be applied in both the parallel and antiparallel alignment cases. We show that for large polarization value, the differential conductance and shot noise are completely diferent for spin up and spin down configurations in the parallel alignment cas…
We are pursuing a capability to perform time resolved manipulations of single spins in quantum dot circuits involving more than two quantum dots. In this paper, we demonstrate full counting statistics as well as averaging techniques we use to calibrate the tunnel barriers. We make use of this to implement the Delft protocol for single shot single spin readout in a device designed to form a triple quantum dot potential. We are able to tune the tunnelling times over around three orders of magnitude. We obtain a spin relaxation time of 300 microseconds at 10T.
An on-chip detection scheme for high frequency signals is used to detect noise generated by a quantum dot formed in a single wall carbon nanotube. The noise detection is based on photon assisted tunneling in a superconductor-insulator-superconductor junction. Measurements of shot noise over a full Coulomb diamond are reported with excited states and inelastic cotunneling clearly resolved. Super-Poissonian noise is detected in the case of inelastic cotunneling.
Using nonequilibrium Green functions and several complementary many-body approximations we calculate shot noise and spin dependent conductance in carbon nanotube semiconducting quantum dot in spin-orbital Kondo regime. We point out on the possibility of reaching giant values of tunnel magnetoresistance in this range and discuss a prospect of its gate control. We also analyze the influence of symmetry breaking perturbations on the shot noise with special emphasis on spin dependent effects. The gate and bias dependencies of noise Fano factors influenced by magnetic field, polarization of electro…
We analyze shot noise in a magnetic tunnel junction with a two-level quantum dot attached to the magnetic electrodes. The considerations are limited to the case when some transport channels are suppressed at low temperatures. Coupling of the two dot's levels to the electrodes are assumed to be generally different and also spin-dependent. To calculate the shot noise we apply the approach based on the full counting statistics. The approach is used to account for experimental data obtained in magnetic tunnel junctions with organic barriers. The experimentally observed Fano factors correspond to t…
Motivated by activities of several experimental groups we investigate electron transport through two coherent, strongly coupled quantum dots ("double quantum dots"), taking into account both intra- and inter-dot Coulomb interactions. The shot noise in this system is very sensitive to the internal electronic level structure of the coupled dot system and its specific coupling to the electrodes. Accordingly a comparison between experiments and our predictions should allow for a characterization of the relevant parameters. We discuss in detail the effect of asymmetries, either asymmetries in the c…
We study shot noise for generic quantum dots coupled to two leads and allow for an arbitrary strength of diffractive impurity scattering inside the dots. The ballistic quantum dots possess a mixed classical phase space, where regular and chaotic regions coexist. In absence of disorder, the noise is systematically suppressed below the universal value of fully chaotic systems, by an amount which varies with the positions of the leads. This suppression is due to the deterministic nature of transport through regular regions and along short chaotic trajectories, and disappears by increasing the sca…
We derive general expressions for the current and shot noise, taking into account non-Markovian memory effects. In generalization of previous approaches our theory is valid for arbitrary Coulomb interaction and coupling strength and is applicable to quantum dots and more complex systems like molecules. A diagrammatic expansion up to second-order in the coupling strength, taking into account co-tunneling processes, allows for a study of transport in a regime relevant to many experiments. As an example, we consider a single-level quantum dot, focusing on the Coulomb-blockade regime. We find supe…
Solution of master equations by fermionic-duality: Time-dependent charge and heat currents through an interacting quantum dot proximized by a superconductor
We consider electrical transport through single molecules coupled to metal electrodes via tunneling barriers. Approximating the molecule by the Anderson impurity model as the simplest model which includes Coulomb charging effects, we extend the ``orthodox'' theory to expand current and shot noise systematically order by order in the tunnel couplings. In particular, we show that a combined measurement of current and shot noise reveals detailed information of the system even in the weak-coupling limit, such as the ratio of the tunnel-coupling strengths of the molecule to the left and right elect…
We have studied the Fano resonance in photon-assisted transport in a quantum dot and calculated both the coherent current and spectral density of shot noise. It is predicted, for the first time, that the shape of Fano profile will also appear in satellite peaks. It is found that the variations of Fano profiles with the strengths of nonresonant transmissions are not synchronous in absorption and emission sidebands. The effect of interference on photon-assisted pumped current has been also investigated. We further predict the current and spectral density of shot noise as a function of the phase,…
The spin and orbital Kondo effects and the related shot noise for a laterally coupled double quantum dot are studied taking account of coherent indirect coupling via a reservoir. We calculate the linear conductance and shot noise for various charge states to distinguish between the spin and orbital Kondo effects. We find that a novel antiferromagnetic exchange coupling can be generated by the coherent indirect coupling, and it works to suppress the spin Kondo effect when each quantum dot holds just one electron. We also show that we can capture the feature of the pseudospin Kondo effect from t…
We consider a quantum dot coupled to a topological superconductor and two normal leads and study transport properties of the system. Using Keldysh path-integral approach, we study current fluctuations (shot noise) within the low-energy effective theory. We argue that the combination of the tunneling conductance and the shot noise through a quantum dot allows one to distinguish between the topological (Majorana) and non-topological (e.g., Kondo) origin of the zero-bias conduction peak. Specifically, we show that, while the tunneling conductance might exhibit zero-bias anomaly due to Majorana or…
We develop a conceptually simple scheme based on a master-equation approach to evaluate the full-counting statistics (FCS) of elastic and inelastic off-resonant tunneling (cotunneling) in quantum dots (QDs) and molecules. We demonstrate the method by showing that it reproduces known results for the FCS and shot noise in the cotunneling regime. For a QD with an excited state, we obtain an analytic expression for the cumulant generating function (CGF) taking into account elastic and inelastic cotunneling. From the CGF we find that the shot noise above the inelastic threshold in the cotunneling r…
The spin-polarized transport through a coherent strongly coupled double quantum dot (DQD) system is analyzed theoretically in the sequential and cotunneling regimes. Using the real-time diagrammatic technique, we analyze the current, differential conductance, shot noise and tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) as a function of both the bias and gate voltages for double quantum dots coupled in series, in parallel as well as for T-shaped systems. For DQDs coupled in series, we find a strong dependence of the TMR on the number of electrons occupying the double dot, and super-Poissonian shot noise in th…
We propose a technique to initialize an electron spin in a semiconductor quantum dot with a single short optical pulse. It relies on the fast depletion of the initial spin state followed by a preferential, Purcell-accelerated desexcitation towards the desired state thanks to a micropillar cavity. We theoretically discuss the limits on initialization rate and fidelity, and derive the pulse area for optimal initialization. We show that spin initialization is possible using a single optical pulse down to a few tens of picoseconds wide.
Based on our recently developed quantum transport theory in term of an exact master equation, the corresponding particle-number resolved ($n$-resolved) master equation and the related shot noise spectrum formalism covering the full frequency range are constructed. We demonstrate that the noise spectra of transport current through single quantum dot and double quantum dots show characteristic steps and/or peak-dips in different tunneling frequency regimes through tuning the applied bias voltage and/or gate voltage at low temperatures. The peak-dips crossing the tunneling resonant frequencies is…
Spin-dependent transport through a multilevel quantum dot weakly coupled to ferromagnetic leads is analyzed theoretically by means of the real-time diagrammatic technique. Both the sequential and cotunneling processes are taken into account, which makes the results on tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) and shot noise applicable in the whole range of relevant bias and gate voltages. Suppression of the TMR due to inelastic cotunneling and super-Poissonian shot noise have been found in some of the Coulomb blockade regions. Furthermore, in the Coulomb blockade regime there is an additional contributio…
We theoretically compare transport properties of Fano-Kondo effect with those of Fano effect. We focus on shot noise characteristics of a triple quantum dot (QD) system in the Fano-Kondo region at zero temperature, and discuss the effect of strong electric correlation in QDs. We found that the modulation of the Fano dip is strongly affected by the on-site Coulomb interaction in QDs.
The current noise in a quantum dot coupled to two leads is investigated in the Kondo regime with and without the influence of magnetic fields by employing a finite-$U$ slave-boson mean field theory to calculate the current-current correlation function at zero temperature. The numerical results show that, depending on the energy level of the QD the Coulomb interactin may reduce or enhance the zero-frequency shot noise power spectrum in comparison with that without Coulomb interaction. But the Fano factor is always reduced significantly due to the Kondo-correlation effect, and the most pronounce…
The sensitivity of shot noise to the interplay between Kondo correlations and superconductivity is investigated in a carbon nanotube quantum dot connected to superconducting electrodes. Depending on the gate voltage, the SU(2) and SU(4) Kondo unitary regimes can be clearly identified. We observe enhancement of the shot noise via the Fano factor in the superconducting state. Its divergence at low bias voltage, which is more pronounced in the SU(4) regime than in the SU(2) one, is larger than what is expected from proliferation of multiple Andreev reflections predicted by the existing theories. …
We study charge transport through a chain of quantum dots. The dots are fully coherent among each other and weakly coupled to metallic electrodes via the dots at the interface, thus modelling a molecular wire. If the non-local Coulomb interactions dominate over the inter-dot hopping we find strongly enhanced shot noise above the sequential tunneling threshold. The current is not enhanced in the region of enhanced noise, thus rendering the noise super-Poissonian. In contrast to earlier work this is achieved even in a fully symmetric system. The origin of this novel behavior lies in a competitio…
We examine the full counting statistics of quantum dots, which display super-Poissonian shot noise. By an extension to a generic situation with many excited states we identify the underlying transport process. The statistics is a sum of independent Poissonian processes of bunches of different sizes, which leads to the enhanced noise. The obtained results could be useful to determine transport characteristics in molecules and large quantum dots, since the noise (and higher cumulants) allow to identify the internal level structure, which is not visible in the average current.
Current fluctuations can provide additional insight into quantum transport in mesoscopic systems. The present work is carried out for the fluctuation properties of transport through a pair of coupled quantum dots which are connected with ferromagnetic electrodes. Based on an efficient particle-number-resolved master equation approach, we are concerned with not only fluctuations of the total charge and spin currents, but also of each individual spin-dependent component. As a result of competition among the spin polarization, Coulomb interaction, and dot-dot tunnel coupling, rich behaviors are f…
Using the random matrix theory (RMT) approach, we calculated the weak localization correction to the shot noise power in a chaotic cavity as a function of magnetic field and spin-orbit coupling. We found a remarkably simple relation between the weak localization correction to the conductance and to the shot noise power, that depends only on the channel number asymmetry of the cavity. In the special case of an orthogonal-unitary crossover, our result coincides with the prediction of Braun et. al [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. {\bf 39}, L159-L165 (2006)], illustrating the equivalence of the semiclassic…
