Block-to-block interface interpolation operators are constructed for several common high-order finite difference discretizations. In contrast to conventional interpolation operators, these new interpolation operators maintain the strict stability, accuracy and conservation of the base scheme even when nonconforming grids or dissimilar operators are used in adjoining blocks. The stability properties of the new operators are verified using eigenvalue analysis, and the accuracy properties are verified using numerical simulations of the Euler equations in two spatial dimensions.

Efficient solution of the lowest eigenmodes is studied for a family of related eigenvalue problems with common $2\times 2$ block structure. It is assumed that the upper diagonal block varies between different versions while the lower diagonal block and the range of the coupling blocks remains unchanged. Such block structure naturally arises when studying the effect of a subsystem to the eigenmodes of the full system. The proposed method is based on interpolation of the resolvent function after some of its singularities have been removed by a spectral projection. Singular value decomposition ca…
A finite element cochain complex on Cartesian meshes of any dimension based on the H1-inner product is introduced. It yields H1-conforming finite element spaces with exterior derivatives in H1. We use a tensor product construction to obtain L2-stable projectors into these spaces which commute with the exterior derivative. The finite element complex is generalized to a family of arbitrary order.
In this paper we derive $7^{th}$ order convergent integration formula in time which is weakly $L$-stable. To derive the method we use, Newton Cotes formula, fifth-order Hermite interpolation polynomial approximation (osculatory interpolation) and sixth-order explicit backward Taylor's polynomial approximation. The vector form of this formula is used to solve Burger's equation which is one dimensional form of Navier-Stokes equation. We observe that the method gives high accuracy results in the case of inconsistencies as well as for small values of viscosity, e.g., $10^{-3}$. Computations are pe…
This work investigates the stability of (discrete) empirical interpolation for nonlinear model reduction and state field approximation from measurements. Empirical interpolation derives approximations from a few samples (measurements) via interpolation in low-dimensional spaces. It has been observed that empirical interpolation can become unstable if the samples are perturbed due to, e.g., noise, turbulence, and numerical inaccuracies. The main contribution of this work is a probabilistic analysis that shows that stable approximations are obtained if samples are randomized and if more samples …
Data sites selected from modeling high-dimensional problems often appear scattered in non-paternalistic ways. Except for sporadic clustering at some spots, they become relatively far apart as the dimension of the ambient space grows. These features defy any theoretical treatment that requires local or global quasi-uniformity of distribution of data sites. Incorporating a recently-developed application of integral operator theory in machine learning, we propose and study in the current article a new framework to analyze kernel interpolation of high dimensional data, which features bounding stoc…
