A non-equilibrium particle transport model, the totally asymmetric exclusion process, is studied on a one-dimensional lattice with a hierarchy of fixed long-range connections. This model breaks the particle-hole symmetry observed on an ordinary one-dimensional lattice and results in a surprisingly simple phase diagram, without a maximum-current phase. Numerical simulations of the model with open boundary conditions reveal a number of dynamic features and suggest possible applications.
We investigate the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on closed and directed random regular networks, which is a simple model of active transport in the one-dimensional segments coupled by junctions. By a pair mean-field theory and detailed numerical analyses, it is found that the correlations at junctions induce two notable deviations from the simple mean-field theory which neglects these correlations: (1) the narrower range of particle density for phase coexistence and (2) the algebraic decay of density profile with exponent $1/2$ even outside the maximal-current phase. We show that…
We study the one-dimensional totally asymmetric simple exclusion process in contact with two reservoirs including also a fugacity at one boundary. The eigenvectors and the eigenvalues of the corresponding Markov matrix are computed using the modified algebraic Bethe ansatz, method introduced recently to study the spin chain with non-diagonal boundaries. We provide in this case a proof of this method.
Feedback and Fluctuations in a Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process with Finite Resources
The totally asymmetric exclusion process (TASEP) with periodic boundaries is considered as traffic flow model. The large-L approximation of the stationary state is used for the derivation of the time-headway distribution (an important microscopic characteristics of traffic flow) for the model with generalized update (genTASEP) in both, forward- and backward-sequential representation. The usually used updates, fully-parallel and regular forward- and backward-sequential, are analysed as special cases of the genTASEP. It is shown that only for those cases, the time-headway distribution is determi…
The fluctuations of the current for the one-dimensional totally asymmetric exclusion process with $L$ sites are studied in the relaxation regime of times $T\sim L^{3/2}$. Using Bethe ansatz for the periodic system with an evolution conditioned on special initial and final states, the Fourier transform of the probability distribution of the fluctuations is calculated exactly in the thermodynamic limit $L\to\infty$ with finite density of particles. It is found to be equal to a sum over discrete realizations of a scalar field in a linear potential with coupling constant equal to the rescaled time…
We consider the spectrum of the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a periodic lattice of $L$ sites. The first eigenstates have an eigenvalue with real part scaling as $L^{-3/2}$ for large $L$ with finite density of particles. Bethe ansatz shows that these eigenstates are characterized by four finite sets of positive half-integers, or equivalently by two integer partitions. Each corresponding eigenvalue is found to be equal to the value at its saddle point of a function indexed by the four sets. Our derivation of the large $L$ asymptotics relies on a version of the Euler-Maclaurin f…
The normalization of Bethe eigenstates for the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a ring of $L$ sites is studied, in the large $L$ limit with finite density of particles, for all the eigenstates responsible for the relaxation to the stationary state on the KPZ time scale $T\sim L^{3/2}$. In this regime, the normalization is found to be essentially equal to the exponential of the action of a scalar free field. The large $L$ asymptotics is obtained using the Euler-Maclaurin formula for summations on segments, rectangles and triangles, with various singularities at the borders of the …
We prove the nonequilibrium fluctuations of one-dimensional, boundary driven, weakly asymmetric exclusion processes through a microscopic Cole-Hopf transformation.
We consider the exclusion process on a ring with time-dependent defective bonds at which the hoping rate periodically switches between zero and one. This system models main roads in city traffics, intersecting with perpendicular streets. We explore basic properties of the system, in particular dependence of the vehicular flow on the parameters of signalization as well as the system size and the car density. We investigate various types of the spatial distribution of the vehicular density, and show existence of a shock profile. We also measure waiting time behind traffic lights, and examine its…
This study proposes a model of a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a single channel lane with functions of site-assignments along the pitlane. The system model attempts to insert a new particle to the leftmost site at a certain probability by randomly selecting one of the empty sites in the pitlane, and reserving it for the particle. Thereafter, the particle is directed to stop at the site only once during its travel. Recently, the system was determined to show a self-deflection effect, in which the site usage distribution biases spontaneously toward the leftmost site, and the thr…
An integrable asymmetric exclusion process with impurities is formulated. The model displays the full spectrum of the stochastic asymmetric XXZ chain plus new levels. We derive the Bethe equations and calculate the spectral gap for the totally asymmetric diffusion at half filling. While the standard asymmetric exclusion process without impurities belongs to the KPZ universality class with a exponent 3/2, our model has a scaling exponent 5/2.
A perturbative renormalization group method is used to obtain steady-state density profiles of a particle non-conserving asymmetric simple exclusion process. This method allows us to obtain a globally valid solution for the density profile without the asymptotic matching of bulk and boundary layer solutions. In addition, we show a nontrivial scaling of the boundary layer width with the system size close to specific phase boundaries.
The Renyi entropy is a generalisation of the Shannon entropy that is sensitive to the fine details of a probability distribution. We present results for the Renyi entropy of the totally asymmetric exclusion process (TASEP). We calculate explicitly an entropy whereby the squares of configuration probabilities are summed, using the matrix product formalism to map the problem to one involving a six direction lattice walk in the upper quarter plane. We derive the generating function across the whole phase diagram, using an obstinate kernel method. This gives the leading behaviour of the Renyi entr…
