A simple model based on relativistic geometry and final-state hadronic rescattering is used to predict pion source parameters extracted in two-pion femtoscopy studies of proton-proton collisions at s**(1/2) = 200 GeV. From studying the momentum and particle multiplicity dependences of these parameters in the context of this model and assuming a very short hadronization time, flow-like behavior is seen which resembles the flow behavior commonly observed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.
A combined analysis of the existing data on the reactions $γp \to p η^\prime $ and $pp \to ppη^\prime $, based on a relativistic meson exchange model of hadronic interactions, is presented.
Unpolarized 1.047 GeV proton inelastic scatterings from Ni isotopes, $^{62}$Ni and $^{64}$Ni are analyzed phenomenologically employing an optical potential model and the first order collective model in the relativistic Dirac coupled channel formalism. The Dirac equations are reduced to the Schrödinger-like second-order differential equations and the effective central and spin-orbit optical potentials are analyzed by considering mass number dependence. The multistep excitation via $2^+$ state is found to be important for the $4^+$ state excitation in the ground state rotational band at the prot…
Proton interactions with $^{12}$C nuclei are a frequent nuclear interaction leading to secondary radiation in tissues for space radiation and cancer therapy with protons or $^{12}$C beams. The fragmentation of $^{12}$C by protons produces a large number of heavy ion (A>4) target or projectile fragments often with high ionization density. Here we develop an analytical model of energy dependent proton-$^{12}$C cross sections for isotopic nuclei production. Using experimental data and a 2nd order optical model an accurate formula for the p-$^{12}$C absorption cross section from <10 MeV/n to >10 G…
The deuteron fragmentation by fast protons has been studied both near the kinematics of quasi-free proton - proton scattering and far away from it. We have concentrated on the interplay between different reaction mechanisms associated with the antisymmetrization of the initial and final states and rescattering contributions. A multiple-scattering-expansion technique has been applied to evaluate the reaction amplitude. An essential element of this approach in the momentum representation is the use of the effective nucleon- nucleon interaction constructed by Love and Franey as a two-body t-matri…
A large set of data on proton-proton differential cross sections, analyzing powers and the double polarization parameter A_NN is analyzed employing the Regge formalism. We find that the data available at proton beam momenta from 3 GeV/c to 50 GeV/c exhibit features that are very well in line with the general characteristics of Regge phenomenology and can be described with a model that includes the rho, omega, f_2, and a_2 trajectories and single Pomeron exchange. Additional data, specifically for spin-dependent observables at forward angles, would be very helpful for testing and refining our R…
We comment on the statement by Kuznetsov et al. that the structure around W=1.72 GeV seen in the beam asymmetry in Compton scattering off the proton is not observed in the total cross section of $η$ photoproduction on the neutron.
113 residual product nuclide yields in a 1.0 GeV proton-irradiated thin monoisotopic 208-Pb sample and 107 residual product nuclide yields in a 2.6 GeV proton-irradiated nat-W sample have been measured and simulated by 8 different codes. The irradiations were made using proton beams extracted from the ITEP synchrotron. The nuclide yields were gamma-spectrometered directly using a high-resolution Ge-detector. The gamma-spectra were processed by the GENIE-2000 code. The ITEP-developed SIGMA code was used together with the PCNUDAT nuclear decay database to identify the gamma-lines and to determin…
We compare calculations for the production of charged pions by pion or proton beams off nuclei calculated within our coupled channel transport model (GiBUU) with recent data of the HARP collaboration for beam energies from 3 up to 13 GeV. Predictions for the 30 GeV data for pions and kaons from the NA61/SHINE experiment are included.
Observed for the processes gamma+p arrow eta+p, gamma+n arrow eta+n are calculated throughout the resonance energy region using the single isobar model without a background. The connection between invariant photoexcitation amplitudes of the resonances on neutrons and protons are calculated. The results are discussed in terms of a comparison with experimental data and calculations performed by other authors.
Analysis of elliptic flow of protons and antiprotons in Au+Au collisions is performed in a wide range of incident energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7--62.4 GeV. Simulations has been done within the three-fluid model employing a purely hadronic equation of state (EoS) and two versions of the EoS involving deconfinement transition: an EoS with the first-order phase transition and that with a smooth crossover transition. It is found that the proton data are reproduced approximately to the same extent within all of the scenarios, including the hadronic one, while the deconfinement scenarios look certai…
The vector and tensor analysing powers in deuteron-proton elastic scattering have been measured in the forward hemisphere at deuteron kinetic energies of 1.2 GeV and 2.27 GeV using the ANKE spectrometer at the COSY storage ring. The results are compared with other experimental data and with predictions made within the framework of Glauber multiple scattering theory.
The ITEP proton synchrotron U10 was used to irradiate isotopically-enriched 208Pb and natU thin targets with 1.0 GeV protons and 197Au thin targets with 0.8 GeV protons. More than 400 cross sections of the nuclides produced were measured using the direct spectrometry method with a high-resolution Ge detector. The measured cross sections are compared with similar data obtained at GSI for kinematically inverse reactions of 1 GeV/nucleon 208Pb, 1 GeV/nucleon 238U, and 0.8 GeV/nucleon 197Au interacting with a hydrogen target and with the ZSR data on natPb and 197Au irradiated with 1 and 0.8 GeV pr…
Proton number fluctuation is sensitive observable to search for the QCD critical point in heavy-ion collisions. In this paper, we studied rapidity acceptance dependence of the proton cumulants and correlation functions in most central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} = 5$ GeV from a microscopic hadronic transport model (JAM). At mid-rapidity, we found the effects of resonance weak decays and hadronic re-scattering on the proton cumulants and correlation functions are small, but those effects get larger when further increasing the rapidity acceptance. On the other hand, we found the ba…
Higher moments of net-proton multiplicity distributions are applied to search for the QCD critical point. In this paper, we will present measurements for kurtosis ($κ$), skewness ($S$) and variance $σ^2$) of net-proton multiplicity distributions at the mid-rapidity ($|y|<0.5$) and transverse momentum range $0.4<p_{T}<0.8$ {\gevc} for Au+Au collisions at {\sNN} = 7.7, 11.5, 39, 62.4 and 200 GeV, Cu+Cu collisions at {\sNN} = 22.4, 62.4 and 200 GeV, $d$+Au collisions at {\sNN} = 200 GeV and p+p collisions at {\sNN} = 62.4 and 200 GeV. The moment products $κσ^2$ and $S σ$ of net-proton distributio…
We discuss three different cases of hard inclusive spectra in proton-proton collisions: high $p_T$ single hadron production at $\sqrt{s}\approx$ 20 GeV and at $\sqrt{s}$ = 62.4 GeV, and direct photon production at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV; with regard to their relevance for the search of Quark Gluon Plasma signals in A+A collisions at SPS and RHIC energies.
We investigate the pp --> pp e+e- and quasifree pn --> pn e+e- reactions within an effective Lagrangian model at the laboratory kinetic energy of 1.25 GeV for which experimental data have recently been reported by the HADES Collaboration. The model uses a meson-exchange approximation to describe the initial nucleon-nucleon (NN) scattering. Contributions to the reaction amplitudes are included from the NN bremsstrahlung as well as from the excitation, propagation and radiative decay of the Delta(1230) isobar state. It is found that the HADES data on the e+e- invariant mass distribution in the p…
We present the transverse momentum (pT) spectra for identified charged pions, protons and anti-protons from p+p and d+Au collisions at \sqrts_NN = 200 GeV. The spectra are measured around midrapidity (|y| < 0.5) over the range of 0.3 < pT < 10 GeV/c with particle identification from the ionization energy loss and its relativistic rise in the Time Projection Chamber and Time-of-Flight in STAR. The charged pion and proton+anti-proton spectra at high pT in p+p and d+Au collisions are in good agreement with a phenomenological model (EPOS) and with the next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chr…
Higher-order cumulants of the distributions of conserved charges, such as net-baryon number, are sensitive to the quantum chromodynamics(QCD) phase transition and the QCD critical point. We calculate the cumulants and correlation functions of proton, antiproton, and net-proton multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7.7$ GeV using a multiphase transport model(AMPT). The AMPT model can basically describe the trends of cumulants, cumulant ratios, (normalized) correlation functions of the proton and net-proton measured by the STAR experiment. The multiproton (baryon) co…
We present the energy dependence of moments of net-proton and net-charge multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions measured by the STAR experiment in the first phase of the Beam Energy Scan (BES) at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). By using the time of flight detector for particle identification, the upper transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) limit for proton and anti-proton is extended from 0.8 GeV/c up to 2 GeV/c. The $p_{T}$ and rapidity acceptance dependence study for the moments of net-proton distribution show that the larger the acceptance is, the greater the deviation from unit…
Based on a Relativistic Boltzmann-Uehling- Uhlenbeck transport model, proton and $^{3}$He induced reactions on $^{197}$Au target at beam energies of 2.8, 5, 10 and 16.587 GeV/nucleon are studied. It is found that compared with proton induced reactions, $^{3}$He induced reactions give larger cross sections of pion production, about 5 times those of the proton induced reactions. And more importantly, pion production from $^{3}$He induced reaction is more inclined to low-angle emission. Neutrino production via positively charged pion is also discussed accordingly.
Pion and photon production cross sections are analyzed in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at energies 20 GeV < s^1/2 < 60 GeV. We separate the proton-proton and nuclear contributions to transverse-momentum broadening and suggest a new mechanism for the nuclear enhancement in the high transverse-momentum region.
We studied the acceptance dependence of proton cumulants (up to fourth order) and correlation functions in 0--5\% most central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}$=7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4 and 200 GeV from UrQMD model. We found that high order proton cumulants show suppressions at large acceptance. By decomposing the proton cumulants into linear combination of multi-proton correlation functions, we observed the two-proton correlation functions always show negative values due to the effects of baryon number conservations. The three and four-proton correlation functions are close to zer…
Transverse momentum spectra of negative and positive pions produced at mid-(pseudo)rapidity in inelastic or non-single-diffractive proton-proton collisions over a center-of-mass energy, $\sqrt{s}$, range from a few GeV to above 10 TeV are analyzed by the blast-wave fit with Boltzmann (Tsallis) distribution. The blast-wave fit results are well fitting to the experimental data measured by several collaborations. In a particular superposition with Hagedorn function, both the excitation functions of kinetic freeze-out temperature ($T_0$) of emission source and transverse flow velocity ($β_T$) of p…
