In the first part of the talk, we discuss non-geometric twists and shifts and briefly review asymmetric orbifolds and free fermion constructions. These allow us to build Type IIB models with N = 1_L + 1_R and N = 1_L + 0_R models having few or no moduli. We then consider unoriented projections of the former and (`exotic') D-branes in the latter. In the second part, devoted to L-R asymmetric D-branes, we review how extended supergravity vacua in D=4 can be embedded in Type II superstrings. We then identify bound states of D-branes with residual susy and non-trivial R-R couplings. We discuss the N = 6 = 2_L + 4_R case in detail and sketch other extended susy cases. Finally we describe the resulting open string excitations. We conclude with some speculations and possible interesting developments.
We investigate new models for scalar fields in flat and curved spacetime. We note that the global reflection symmetry of the potential that identify the scalar field model does not exclude the presence of internal asymmetries that give rise to asymmetric structures. Despite the asymmetry, the new structures are linearly stable and in the braneworld scenario with an extra dimension of infinite extend, they may generate new families of asymmetric thick branes that are robust against small fluctuations in the warped geometry.
This work deals with the presence and stability of thick brane solutions in the warped five dimensional braneworld scenario with a single extra spatial dimension of infinite extent. We combine two distinct procedures that give rise to new possibilities, allowing that we describe models of asymmetric thick branes, with the asymmetry being controlled by a single real parameter. We illustrate the main results with some distinct models, which show that the method works for both standard and generalized models, and the solutions are gravitationally stable against small perturbations of the metric.
We study the type II string vacua with chiral space-time SUSY constructed as asymmetric orbifolds of torus and $ K3 $ compactifications. Despite the fact that all the D-branes are non-BPS in any chiral SUSY vacua, we show that the relevant non-geometric vacua of asymmetric orbifolds allow rather generally configurations of D-branes which lead to vanishing cylinder amplitudes, implying the bose-fermi cancellation at each mass level of the open string spectrum. After working on simple models of toroidal asymmetric orbifolds, we focus on the asymmetric orbifolds of $ T^2 \times {\cal M} $, where …
We revisit the boundary conformal field theory of twist fields. Based on the equivalence between twisted bosons on a circle and the orbifold theory at the critical radius, we provide a bosonized representation of boundary twist fields and thus a free field representation of the latter. One advantage of this formulation is that it considerably simplifies the calculation of correlation functions involving twist fields. At the same time this also gives access to higher order terms in the operator product expansions of the latter which, in turn, allows to explore the moduli space of marginal defor…
We study non-BPS D-branes in the type II string vacua with chiral space-time SUSY constructed based on the asymmetric orbifolds of $\mbox{K3} \cong T^4/{\Bbb Z}_2$ as a succeeding work of arXiv:1704.05262[hep-th]. We especially focus on the fractional D-branes that contains the contributions from the twisted sector of the ${\Bbb Z}_2$ orbifolding. We show that the cylinder partition functions for these fractional branes do not vanish, as in the cases of ordinary non-BPS D-branes. This aspect is in a sharp contrast with the bulk-type branes studied in arXiv:1704.05262[hep-th]. We then discuss t…
We deal with relativistic models described by a single real scalar field, searching for topological structures that behave asymmetrically, connecting minima with distinct profile. We use such features to build a new braneworld scenario, in which the source scalar field contributes to generate asymmetric hybrid brane.

We study some aspects of asymmetric orbifolds of tori, with the orbifold group being some $\mathbb{Z}_N$ subgroup of the T-duality group and, in particular, provide a concrete understanding of certain phase factors that may accompany the T-duality operation on the stringy Hilbert space in toroidal compactification. We discuss how these T-duality twist phase factors are related to the symmetry and locality properties of the closed string vertex operator algebra, and clarify the role that they enact in the modular covariance of the orbifold theory, mainly using asymmetric orbifolds of tori which…
This work deals with the presence of thick branes in a model with two source scalar fields that interact with one another in a very specific way. The model is new, capable of generating kinklike configurations that engender important modifications in the energy density of the system, inducing the presence of symmetric and asymmetric structures inside the brane.
In the context of holography, we analyse aspects of supersymmetric geometries based on two-dimensional orbifolds known as spindles. By analysing spin$^c$ spinors on a spindle with an azimuthal rotation symmetry we show that under rather general conditions there are just two possibilities, called the `twist' and the `anti-twist', which are determined by the quantized magnetic flux through the spindle. A special case of the twist is the standard topological twist which is associated with constant and chiral spinors. We construct solutions of $D=5$ and $D=4$ STU gauged supergravity theories that …
We propose Type IIB 5-brane configurations that engineer the 6d $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ SCFTs with $SO(N)$ gauge symmetry coupled to a single tensor multiplet on a circle, by considering RG flows on Higgs branches of $D$-type conformal matter theories. We test the brane systems against known Calabi-Yau threefolds for the 6d SCFTs on a circle. In addition we study a new RG flow involving Higgs vevs of scalar operators with Kaluza-Klein momentum along the circle. The new RG flow results in the 5-brane webs for the 6d SCFTs of $D_N$ gauge symmetry compactified on a circle with $Z_2$ outer-automorphis…
Using the level truncation method, we construct numerical solutions, which are twist even and SU(1,1) singlet, in the theory around the Takahashi-Tanimoto identity-based solution (TT solution) with a real parameter $a$ in the framework of bosonic open string field theory. We find solutions corresponding to "double brane" and "ghost brane" solutions which were constructed by Kudrna and Schnabl in the conventional theory around the perturbative vacuum. Our solutions show somewhat similar $a$-dependence to tachyon vacuum and single brane solutions, which we found in the earlier works. In this sen…
