We show that there exist uncanceled soft divergences in the k_T factorization for nonfactorizable amplitudes of two-body nonleptonic B meson decays, similar to those identified in hadron hadroproduction. These divergences can be grouped into a soft factor using the eikonal approximation, which is then treated as an additional nonperturbative input in the perturbative QCD formalism. Viewing the special role of the pion as a q-qbar bound state and as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson, we postulate that the soft effect associated with it is significant. This soft factor enhances the nonfactorizable color-suppressed tree amplitudes, such that the branching ratios B(pi^0 pi^0) and B(pi^0 rho^0) are increased under the constraint of the B(rho^0 rho^0) data, the difference between the direct CP asymmetries A_{CP}(pi^\mp K^\pm) and A_{CP}(pi^0 K^\pm) is enlarged, and the mixing-induced CP asymmetry S_{pi^0 K_S} is reduced. Namely, the known pi pi and pi K puzzles can be resolved simultaneously.
The discrepancies among the measurements of branching ratios and CP asymmetries of $B$ arrow $ππ$ decays such as large direct CP asymmetry for $B^0 $ arrow $π^+ π^-$ mode and large branching ratio for $B^0$ arrow $π^0 π^0$ mode originate the $B$ arrow $ππ$ puzzle. According to diagrammatic approach of this $b$ arrow $d$ transition the small ratio of color-suppressed amplitude (C) to color-allowed one (T) contradicts between the standard model (SM) approach and the experimental values. To make out the ambiguity we need to scrutinize the decays with different topological amplitudes. In this pape…
We aim at contributing to the resolution of three of the fundamental puzzles related to the still unsolved problem of the structure of the dense core of compact stars (CS): (i) the hyperon puzzle: how to reconcile pulsar masses of $2\,$M$_\odot$ with the hyperon softening of the equation of state (EoS); (ii) the masquerade problem: modern EoS for cold, high density hadronic and quark matter are almost identical; and (iii) the reconfinement puzzle: what to do when after a deconfinement transition the hadronic EoS becomes favorable again? We show that taking into account the compositeness of bar…
The so-called hyperon puzzle in the theory of neutron stars is considered in the framework of modified $f(R)$ gravity. We show that for simple hyperon equations of state, it is possible to obtain the maximal neutron star mass which satisfies the recent observational data for PSR J1614-2230, in higher-derivative models with power-law terms as $f(R) = R+αR^2+ βR^3$. The soft hyperon equation of state under consideration is usually treated as non-realistic in the standard General Relativity. The numerical analysis of Mass-Radius relation for massive neutron stars with hyperon equation of state in…
The long-standing puzzle of the quenched $g_A$ in nuclei -- and in dense matter -- is shown to have a simple resolution in a scale-symmetric HLS chiral Lagrangian at the Fermi-liquid fixed point. This resolution exposes scale-chiral symmetry, hidden in QCD in the vacuum, emerging in nuclear matter from low density to high compact-star density. It has important implications on "first principles" approaches to nuclear physics, such as the role of multi-body exchange currents in Gamow-Teller matrix elements in nuclei and in neutrinoless double $β$ decays for going Beyond the Standard Model.
One of the exciting results in flavor physics in recent times is the $R_D$/$R_{D^*}$ puzzle. The measurements of these flavor ratios performed by the B-factory experiments, BaBar and Belle, and the LHCb experiment are about $4σ$ away from the Standard Model expectation. These measurements indicate that the mechanism of $b\rightarrow cτ\barν$ decay is not identical to that of $b\rightarrow c(μ/e)\barν$. This charge lepton universality violation is particularly intriguing because these decays occur at tree level in the Standard Model. In particular, we expect a moderately large new physics contr…
We propose that three recent anomalies in $B$ meson decays, $R_{D^{(*)}}$, $R_K$, and $P_5'$, might be explained by a single vector leptoquark weak triplet state. The constraints on the parameter space are obtained by considering $t \to b τ^+ ν$ data, lepton flavor universality tests in the kaon sector, bounds on $B \to K^{(*)} \bar νν$, bound on the lepton flavor violating decay $B \to K μτ$, and measurements of $b \to c μ^- \barν$ decays. The presence of such vector leptoquark could be exposed in precise measurements of $t \to b τν$ and $B \to K^{(*)} \bar νν$ decays. The model also predicts…
The recently developed hadron resonance gas model with multicomponent hard-core repulsion is used to address and resolve the long standing problem to describe the light nuclear cluster multiplicities including the hyper-triton measured by the STAR Collaboration, known as the hyper-triton chemical freeze-out puzzle. An unprecedentedly accurate description is obtained for the hadronic and other light nuclear cluster data measured by STAR at the collision energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =200$ GeV and by ALICE at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =2.76$ TeV. This success is achieved by applying the new strategy of analyzing t…
We present a summary of the recent results obtained with the novel hadron resonance gas model with the multicomponent hard-core repulsion which is extended to describe the mixtures of hadrons and light (anti-, hyper-)nuclei. A very accurate description is obtained for the hadronic and the light nuclei data measured by STAR at the collision energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =200$ GeV and by ALICE at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =2.76$ TeV. The most striking result discussed here is that for the most probable chemical freeze-out scenario for the STAR energy the found parameters allow us to reproduce the values of the exp…
Astrophysics today faces a number of mysteries which defiant their resolutions in spite of drastic improvements in instrumental design, better technique being developed, and gradual improvements in theoretical and computation methods over last decades. Primordial Lithium Puzzle is known to stay with us for at least two decades, and it is very likely that its final resolution will require some fundamentally new ideas, novel frameworks and a non-conventional paradigms. We propose that Primordial Lithium Puzzle finds its natural resolution within the so-called Axion Quark Nugget (AQN) dark matter…
Motivated by the rapid development of heavy-flavor experiments, phenomenological studies of nonleptonic $\bar{B}_{d,s} \to D^{*}_{d,s} V$ and $\bar{B}_{d,s}^* \to D_{d,s} V$~($V=ρ\,,K^*$) decays are performed within the framework of QCD Factorization. Relative to previous works, the QCD corrections to the transverse amplitudes are evaluated at next-to-leading order. The theoretical predictions of the observables are updated. For the measured $\bar{B}_{d,s} \to D^{*}_{d,s} V$ decays, two tensions between theoretical results and experimental measurements, {\it i.e.} "$R_{ds}^{V}$ puzzle" and "$D…
The measured $B_d \to π^0π^0$ branching fraction deviates significantly from conventional QCD predictions, a puzzle which has persisted for more than 10 years. This may be a hint of new physics beyond the Standard Model; however, as we shall show in this paper, the pQCD prediction is highly sensitive to the choice of the renormalization scales which enter the decay amplitude. In the present paper, we show that the renormalization scale uncertainties for $B\to ππ$ can be greatly reduced by applying the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), and more precise predictions for CP-averaged branchi…
We revisit the puzzle of $|V_{us}|$ values obtained from the conventional implementation of hadronic-$τ$-decay-based flavor-breaking finite-energy sum rules lying $>3 σ$ below the expectations of three-family unitarity. Significant unphysical dependences of $|V_{us}|$ on the choice of weight, w, and upper limit, $s_0$, of the experimental spectral integrals entering the analysis are confirmed, and a breakdown of assumptions made in estimating higher dimension, $D>4$, OPE contributions is identified as the main source of these problems. A combination of continuum and lattice results is shown to…
We study $B\to ππ$ decay with a modified perturbative QCD approach. The branching ratios and $CP$ violation are calculated with the transverse momenta of partons considered. Sudakov factor associated with each meson is included to suppress soft contribution in QCD. With the wave function of $B$ meson obtained in QCD-inspired relativistic potential model being used, the suppression of Sudakov factor to the soft contribution is not effective enough. Soft scale cutoff and soft form factors of $Bπ$ transition and $ππ$ production have to be introduced. The main next-to-leading-order contributions o…
Recent measurements of the proton radius using the Lamb shift in muonic hydrogen are troublingly discrepant with values extracted from hydrogen spectroscopy and electron-proton scattering experiments. This discrepancy, which differs by more than five standard deviations, may be a signal of new physics caused by a violation of lepton universality. Another candidate for a new physics signal is the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The measurement at BNL differs from the standard model prediction by at least three standard deviations. Motivated by these two puzzles, first we use polarized lepton-nu…
The observation of new $Ω_{c}=ssc$ states by LHCb \cite{Aaij:2017nav} and the confirmation of four of them by Belle \cite{Yelton:2017qxg} may represent an important milestone in our understanding of the quark organization inside hadrons. By providing results for the spectrum of $Ω_{c(b)}$ baryons and predictions for their $Ξ_{c(b)}^{+}K^{-}$ decay channels, we suggest a possible solution to the $Ω_{c}$ quantum number puzzle. We also discuss why the set of $Ω_{c(b)}$ baryons are the most suitable environment to test the validity of three-quark and quark-diquark effective degrees of freedom. Fin…
Continuum and lattice methods are used to investigate systematic issues in the sum rule determination of $V_{us}$ using inclusive hadronic $τ$ decay data. Results for $V_{us}$ employing assumptions for $D>4$ OPE contributions used in previous conventional implementations of this approach are shown to display unphysical dependence on the sum rule weight, $w$, and choice of upper limit, $s_0$, of the relevant experimental spectral integrals. Continuum and lattice results suggest a new implementation of the sum rule approach with not just $\vert V_{us}\vert$, but also $D>4$ effective condensates,…
A combination of continuum and lattice methods is used to investigate systematic issues in the finite-energy-sum-rule determination of $V_{us}$ based on flavor-breaking combinations of hadronic $τ$ decay data. Results for $V_{us}$ obtained using assumptions for $D>4$ OPE contributions employed in previous conventional implementations of this approach are shown to display significant unphysical dependences on the choice of sum rule weight, $w$, and upper limit, $s_0$, of the relevant experimental spectral integrals. Continuum and lattice results suggest the necessity of a new implementation of …
We present here a possible resolution of the jet quenching parameter $\hat{q}$ puzzle by exploring the momentum fraction $x$ and scale $Q^2$ dependence of $\hat{q}$, in addition to temperature dependence. We explore the momentum broadening of the jet due to Glauber gluon exchange with the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). This has led us to define the momentum fraction $x$ for the partons in the QGP. We also show here, for the first time, possible forms of the parton distribution function (PDF) of the QGP. The QGP-PDF as input in $\hat{q}$ has been used to fit the PHENIX and CMS data simultaneously. W…
Recent measurements have established the sensitivity of ultracentral heavy-ion collisions to the deformation parameters of non-spherical nuclei. In the case of ${}^{ 129}$Xe collisions, a quadrupole deformation of the nuclear profile led to an enhancement of elliptic flow in the most central collisions. In ${}^{ 208}$Pb collisions a discrepancy exists in similar centralities, where either elliptic flow is over-predicted or triangular flow is under-predicted by hydrodynamic models; this is known as the $v_2$-to-$v_3$ puzzle in ultracentral collisions. Motivated by low-energy nuclear structure c…
There is a puzzle in the $Λ_c^+$ family, i.e., one member with $J^P=3/2^+$ is missing in a $L=2$ multiplet which the heavy quark effective theory predicts, and $J^P$'s of $Λ_c(2765)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ are unknown. Using a light diquark picture to calculate baryon masses, we study possible assignments of two $Λ_c$'s with unknown $J^P$ and the missing $Λ_c^+$ with $3/2^+$ for $L=2$, and we find the most probable possibility that the peak corresponding to $Λ_c(2880)^+$ actually includes a missing member with spin $3/2^+$ for $L=2$ and that quantum numbers of $Λ_c(2765)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ are …
