A previously successful model for purely hadronic total cross-sections, based on QCD minijets and soft-gluon resummation, is here applied to the total photoproduction cross section. We find that our model in the gamma p case predicts a rise with energy stronger than in the pp -pbarp case.
Experimentally observed slow growth of hadron cross-sections at high energies is a very intriguing but poorly understood property of QCD. It is tempting to explain the slow growth by saturation of Froissart bound or another similar universal mechanism. We reconsider derivation of Froissart bound in QCD in chiral limit and argue it can not justify experimentally observed behavior. Although the conventional Froissart-Martin bound should impose non-trivial constraint on the growth of hadron cross-sections, because of the small value of pion masses it will become restrictive only at currently unac…
The Froissart bound limmits the asymptotic s->infinity behavior of crossections by (π/t_0) ln ^2 (s/{(s_0)} where t_0 is the lightest exchanged particle, or more generally the nearest ssingularity, in the t channel. We suggest that in comparing this bound with data at energies less than those of LHC, gluebaall masses raather than the small pion mass should be used for (t_0)^{1/2}.
The Froissart bound on the total cross section is subjected to test against very high energy data. We have found no clear evidence for its violation. The scaling property of differential cross section in the diffraction region is investigated. It exhibits scaling in the ISR, SPS, Tevatron and LHC energy domain which had hitherto remained unexplored. The slope of the diffraction peak is fitted and the data are tested against the rigorous bounds.
At very high energies we expect that the hadronic cross sections satisfy the Froissart bound, which is a well-established property of the strong interactions. In this energy regime we also expect the formation of the Color Glass Condensate, characterized by gluon saturation and a typical momentum scale: the saturation scale $Q_s$. In this paper we show that if a saturation window exists between the nonperturbative and perturbative regimes of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the total cross sections satisfy the Froissart bound. Furthermore, we show that our approach allows us to describe the high …
In Part I (in this journal) we argued that the structure function $F_2^{γp}(x,Q^2)$ in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering, regarded as a cross section for virtual $γ^*p$ scattering, has a saturated Froissart-bounded form behaving as $\ln^2 (1/x)$ at small $x$. This form provides an excellent fit to the low $x$ HERA data, including the very low $Q^2$ regions, and can be extrapolated reliably to small $x$ using the natural variable $\ln(1/x)$. We used our fit to derive quark distributions for values of $x$ down to $x=10^{-14}$. We use those distributions here to evaluate ultra-high energy (UHE) cros…
High-energy behavior of total cross sections is discussed in experiment and theory. Origin and meaning of the Froissart bounds are described and explained. Violation of the familiar log-squared bound appears to not violate unitarity (contrary to the common opinion), but correspond to rapid high-energy increase of the amplitude in nonphysical regions.
QED radiative corrections to the cross section of diffractive electro- and photoproduction of vector mesons is calculated at HERA energies. Both semi-analytical and Monte Carlo approaches are discussed and compared.
The exclusive $Υ$ photoproduction in ultraperipheral proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC energies is being investigated using pQCD framework which constrain the gluon distribution in the proton and nuclei at low $x$. Rapidity distributions of $Υ$ photoproduction with different gluon distribution parameterization and gluon shadowing for nuclear PDFs including photon flux suppression for strong interaction, are being presented at LHC energies. Predictions done for ultraperipheral collisions at $\sqrt s$=$8.16$ TeV in pPb, and at $\sqrt s$=$5.02$ TeV in PbPb collisions which are …
We compare our theoretical results for charmed quark and J/Psi - photoproduction cross sections obtained in the semihard approach of QCD with H1 and ZEUS experimental data.
We argue that the deep inelastic structure function $F_2^{γp}(x, Q^2)$, regarded as a cross section for virtual $γ^*p$ scattering, is hadronic in nature. This implies that its growth is limited by the Froissart bound at high hadronic energies, giving a $\ln^2 (1/x)$ bound on $F_2^{γp}$ as Bjorken $x\rightarrow 0$. The same bound holds for the individual quark distributions. In earlier work, we obtained a very accurate global fit to the combined HERA data on $F_2^{γp}$ using a fit function which respects the Froissart bound at small $x$, and is equivalent in its $x$ dependence to the function u…
We describe the taming effect induced by soft gluon $k_t$-resummation on the rapid rise of QCD mini-jet contributions to the total cross-sections.This results from an eikonal model in which the rise of the total cross-section is due to mini-jet contribution. We perform the calculation with current Parton Density Functions (PDFs). The impact parameter distribution we use is obtained as the Fourier transform of the resummed $k_t$-distribution of soft gluons emitted from the initial state during the collision. The emission, which is energy dependent, destroys the initial collinearity of partons. In…
We calculate the inclusive and diffractive photoproduction of heavy quarks in proton-proton collisions at Tevatron and LHC energies, where the photon reaches energies larger than those ones accessible at DESY-HERA. The integrated cross section and the rapidity distributions for charm and bottom production are computed within the color dipole picture employing three phenomenological saturation models based on the Color Glass Condensate formalism. Our results demonstrate that the experimental analyzes of these reactions is feasible and that the cross sections are sensitive to the underlying part…
The Froissart (\F) asymptotic behavior of high energy cross-sections, if considered in a parton picture, is usually represented as a kind of behavior that occurs in the process of a collision of two almost black disks, filled with partons, when radiuses of these \F - disks grow proportional to log's of there energies. In this article we briefly summarize the main asymptotic properties of \F - disks that one can expect in QCD. ~~Then we consider if it is possible to guarantee the boost-invariance of transparency $T(s,b) = 1 - σ_{in}(s,b)$, where $σ_{in}(s,b)$ is the total inelastic cross-sectio…
The gauge/string-gravity duality correspondence opened renewed hope and possibility to address some of the fundamental and non-perturbative QCD problems in particle physics, such as hadron spectrum and Regge behavior of the scattering amplitude at high energies. One of the most fundamental and long-standing problem is the high energy behavior of total cross-sections. According to a series of exhaustive tests by the COMPETE group, (1). total cross-sections have a universal Heisenberg behavior in energy corresponding to the maximal energy behavior allowed by the Froissart bound, i.e., $A + B ln^…
Hybrid/exotic meson spectroscopy searches at Jefferson Lab require the accurate theoretical description of the production mechanism in peripheral photoproduction. We develop a model for $πΔ$ photoproduction at high energies ($5 \leq E_{\text{lab}} \leq 16~\text{GeV}$) that incorporates both the absorbed pion and natural-parity cut contributions. We fit the available observables, providing a good description of the energy and angular dependencies of the experimental data. We also provide predictions for the photon beam asymmetry of charged pions at $E_{\text{lab}} = 9~\text{GeV}$ which is expec…
We compare the coherent and quasielastic J/psi photoproduction in the peripheral heavy ion collisions in kinematics of RHIC. Our improved estimate of the total coherent cross section is a factor of two smaller than the earlier ones. We find that the counting rate of quasielastic J/psi photoproduction tagged by neutrons emitted due to cascading of the recoiled nucleon within the residual nucleus exceeds the rate of the coherent events. We argue that measurements of this process can be used to learn about the dynamics of color dipole-nucleon interactions in nuclei in the wide effective range of …
The production of large $p_{T}$ dileptons and photons originating from photoproduction processes in p-p collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies is calculated. The comparisons between the exact treatment results and the ones of the equivalent photon approximation approach are expressed as the $Q^{2}$ (the virtuality of photon) and $p_{T}$ distributions. The method developed by Martin and Ryskin is used for avoiding double counting when the coherent and incoherent contributions are considered simultaneously. The numerical results indicate that, the equivalent photon approximation is only ef…
In this work we investigate the coherent photoproduction of psi(1S), psi(2S) and Upsilon (1S) states in the proton-nucleus collisions in the LHC energies. Predictions for the rapidity distributions are presented using the color dipole formalism and including saturation effects that are expected to be relevant at high energies. Calculations are done at the energy 5.02 TeV and also for the next LHC run at 8.8 TeV in proton-lead mode. Discussion is performed on the main theoretical uncertainties associated to the calculations.
Inelastic photoproduction of $J/ψ$ particles at high energies is one of the processes to determine the gluon distribution in the nucleon. We have calculated the QCD radiative corrections to the color-singlet model of this reaction. They are large at moderate photon energies, but decrease with increasing energies. The cross section and the $J/ψ$ energy spectrum are compared with the available fixed-target photoproduction data and predictions are given for the HERA energy range.
The exclusive photoproduction of lepton pairs on nucleon and nucleus target is investigated within the high energy color dipole approach, where the main physical quantity is the dipole-target elastic scattering amplitude that captures the main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. These calculations are input in predictions for electromagnetic interactions in pp and AA collisions to be measured at the LHC.
In this work we investigate the inclusive and exclusive photoproduction of dileptons, which is relevant for the physics programme to be studied in the proposed electron-proton collider, the LHeC. In the inclusive case, the process is sensitive to the parton distribution functions in the photon whereas the exclusive channel is connected to the small-$x$ QCD dynamics. For the latter, we investigate the role played by saturation physics at a very high energy scenario. The estimates for production cross sections and the number of events are presented.
The energy dependence of the total hadronic cross section at high energies is investigated with focus on the recent experimental result by the TOTEM Collaboration at 7 TeV and the Froissart-Martin bound. On the basis of a class of analytical parametrization with the exponent $γ$ in the leading logarithm contribution as a free parameter, different variants of fits to $pp$ and $\bar{p}p$ total cross section data above 5 GeV are developed. Two ensembles are considered, the first comprising data up to 1.8 TeV, the second also including the data collected at 7 TeV. We shown that in all fit variants…
The $J/ψ$ production originating from elastic and inelastic photoproduction processes in p-p collisions at LHC energies is investigated, where the fragmentation processes are involved. An exact treatment is performed, which adopts the Martin-Ryskin method to weight the contribution from different channels, and can return to Weizsäcker-Williams approximation (WWA) when $Q^{2}\rightarrow0$. The relevant kinematical relations are also achieved. We present a comprehensive analysis for the feature of WWA by comparing with the exact treatment. The results are expressed in $Q^{2}$, $y$, $z$, $p_{T}$,…
A study of the $J/ψ$-meson production at large transverse momentum in high energy $γp$ collisions via the charm quark excitation in a photon is presented. Based on perturbative QCD and the nonrelativistic quark model, our calculation demonstrates that the charm content of a photon may be very important for the $J/ψ$ photoproduction at the large transverse momentum. It is shown that at HERA energies $J/ψ$ production via the subprocess $cg\to J/\si c$ dominates over the resolved photon contribution via the subprocess $gg\to J/ψg$ at $p_{\bot}>3$ GeV/c and over the direct photon-gluon fusion cont…
We show that, in the Regge limit, beam asymmetries in $η$ and $η'$ photoproduction are sensitive to hidden strangeness components. Under reasonable assumptions about the couplings we estimate the contribution of the $ϕ$ Regge pole, which is expected to be the dominant hidden strangeness contribution. The ratio of the asymmetries in $η'$ and $η$ production is estimated to be close to unity in the forward region $0 < -t/\text{GeV}^2 \leq 1$ at the photon energy $E_\text{lab} = 9$~GeV, relevant for the upcoming measurements at Jefferson Lab.
Based on a perturbative theory of quantum chromodynamics and non-relativistic quark model, associated $J/ψ$ plus open charm photoproduction on charm quarks in a proton via partonic subprocess $γc\to J/ψc$ is discussed. It is shown that the value and energy dependence of the cross section for such process remarkably depends on the choice of charm distribution function in a proton. In the region of small $z=E_J/E_γ<0.2$ the contribution of the $γc\to J/ψc$ subprocess in the inelastic $J/ψ$ photoproduction spectra is larger than the contribution of the photon-gluon fusion subprocess. At the energ…
Protons and antiprotons at collider energies are a source of high energy Weizsaecker--Williams photons. This opens up a possibility to study at the LHC exclusive photoproduction of heavy vector mesons at energies much larger than possible at the HERA accelerator. We present selected results of our detailed studies of various distributions for the production of heavy quarkonia (e.g. rapidity, transverse momenta, azimuthal angles). We give predictions for LHC energies. Our calculations are based on modelling the photoproduction amplitudes in a k_\perp-factorisation approach which is checked agai…
We consider the photoproduction of secondary mesons in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String model. At relatively low energies, not only cylindrical, but also planar diagrams have to be accounted for. To estimate the significant contribution of planar diagrams in gamma-p collisions at rather low energies, we have used the expression obtained from the corresponding phenomenological expression for pi-p collisions. The results obtained by the model are compared to the existing SLAC experimental data. The model predictions for light meson production at HERMES energies are also presented.
We fit the reduced cross section for deep-inelastic electron scattering data to a three parameter ln^2 s fit, A + beta ln^2 (s/s_0), where s= [Q^2/x] (1-x) + m^2, and Q^2 is the virtuality of the exchanged photon. Over a wide range in Q^2 (0.11 < Q^2 < 1200 GeV^2) all of the fits satisfy the logarithmic energy dependence of the Froissart bound. We can use these results to extrapolate to very large energies and hence to very small values of Bjorken x -- well beyond the range accessible experimentally. As Q^2 --> infinity, the structure function F_2^p(x, Q^2) exhibits Bjorken scaling, within exp…
Inelastic photoproduction of $J/ψ$ particles at high energies is one of the processes to determine the gluon distribution in the nucleon. The QCD radiative corrections to the color-singlet model of this reaction have recently been calculated. They are large at moderate photon energies, but decrease with increasing energies. I compare the cross section and the ${J/ψ}$ energy spectrum with the available fixed-target photoproduction data. Predictions for the HERA energy range are given which demonstrate the sensitivity of the result to the parametrization of the gluon distribution in the small-$x…
We investigate the photoproduction of $ρ$ mesons in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies in the dipole approach and within two phenomenological models based on the the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. We estimate the integrated cross section and rapidity distribution for meson production and compare our predictions with the data from the STAR collaboration. In particular, we demonstrate that the total cross section at RHIC is strongly dependent on the energy behavior of the dipole-target cross section at low energies, which is not well determined in the dipole a…
We estimate the differential and total cross sections for both the photoproduction of vector D*-meson and its yield in deep inelastic scattering at the HERA collider in the framework of model motivated by perturbative calculations in QCD. The offered model allows us to take into account higher twists over the transverse momentum of meson at p_T ~ m_c and to correctly approach the dominance of $c$-quark fragmentation at p_T >> m_c. We consider a possibility for the hadronization of color-octet c q-bar state into the meson. The combined contribution by the singlet and octet-color terms results i…
We show that photoproduction cross sections recently measured by ZEUS and H-1 at HERA energies$^1$ are in agreement with our earlier prediction based on high-energy hadronic structure of the photon in the QCD minijet-type model$^2$. We present results of an improved calculation of the photoproduction cross section, in which the soft part, motivated by the Regge theory, is taken to be energy-dependent and the semi-hard hadronic part is carefully eikonalized to take into account for the multiple scatterings and to include the appropriate probability that photon would act hadronicaly$^3$. We also…
The photoproduction of large $p_{T}$ dileptons, photons and light vector mesons in p-p, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is studied, where the fragmentation processes and the ultra-incoherent photon channel are included. An exact treatment is developed for photoproduction processes in heavy ion collisions, which recovers the equivalent photon approximation (EPA) in the limit $Q^{2}\rightarrow0$ and can avoid double counting effectively. The full kinematical relations are also achieved. We present the results as the distributions in $Q^{2}$, $p_{T}$ and $y_{r}$, the total cross section…
We consider J/psi meson photoproduction on protons at high energies at the leading order in alpha_s using conventional parton model and k_t-factorization approach of QCD. It is shown that in the both cases the colour singlet mechanism gives correct description for experimental data from HERA for the total cross section and for the J/psi meson z-spectrum at realistic values of a c-quark mass and meson wave function at the origin Psi (0). At the same time our predictions for p_t-spectrum of J/psi meson and for p_t dependence of the spin parameter alpha obtained in k_t-factorization approach are …
At forward angles, the cross-sections of photoproduction of vector mesons ($ρ$, $ω$, and $ϕ$) are well accounted for by the exchange of the Pomeron at high energies, while contributions of $t$ channel exchange of Reggeons are significant at low energies. At large angles, the impact parameter becomes small enough to prevent their constituents to build up the exchanged Reggeons or Pomeron. Two gluon exchange appears to dominate above $-t\simeq 1$ GeV$^2$, especially in the $ϕ$ channel.
Proof of the Froissart theorem is reconsidered in a different way to extract its necessary conditions. Two physical inputs, unitarity and absence of massless intermediate hadrons, are indisputable. Also important are mathematical properties of the Legendre functions. Assumptions on dispersion relations, single or double, appear to be excessive. Instead, one should make assumptions on possible high-energy asymptotics of the amplitude in nonphysical configurations, which have today no firm basis. Asymptotics for the physical amplitude always appear essentially softer than for the nonphysical one…
The magnitude of four independent amplitudes are determined in charged kaon photoproduction in the energy range of 1500 to 2300MeV incident photon. Differential cross section and three polarization parameters are required for such amplitudes reconstruction at different kaon scattering angles. This analysis has indicated that the magnitudes of spin-flip amplitudes of the target nucleon dominate over the non-flip ones in all energies and scattering angles. The results have been compared with the solution of phase shift analysis sp98 at all energies. This analysis indicates that here is a good ag…
Assuming that the $π^+π^-$ photoproduction at forward angles and high energies is dominated by one pion exchange we calculate the $π^+π^-$ mass distributions for low partial waves. Predictions of the model agree well Assuming that the $π^+π^-$ photoproduction at forward angles and high energies is dominated by one pion exchange we calculate the $π^+π^-$ mass distributions for low partial waves. Predictions of the model agree well with the experimental data which indicate that the $S$, $P$ and $D$ waves are dominated by the $f_0(980)$, $ρ(770)$ and $f_2(1270)$, resonances respectively.
We present results of calculations of the total and jet photoproduction cross sections at HERA and Fermilab energies$^1$. The calculations take into account the high-energy QCD structure of the photon and are performed for different photon structure functions. We discuss how recent measurements of the total photoproduction cross section at HERA energies$^2$ can provide an important information on the low $x$ behavior of the photon structure function and in a more general context, to the nature of strong interactions. In addition, we show that the photoproduction cross section measurements at F…
In this contribution, we study the inclusive and diffractive $η_{c}$ photoproduction in $pp$ and $pPb$ ultra-peripheral collisions (UPC's) at the LHC Run 2 energies. The quarkonium production is studied using nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) formalism. We present predictions for rapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the $η_c$ photoproduction and present our estimate for the total cross sections at the Run 2 energies.
We present a nonperturbative QCD calculation of elastic $J/ψ$ meson production in photon-proton scattering at high energies. Using light cone wave functions of the photon and vector mesons, and the framework of the model of the stochastic QCD vacuum, we calculate the differential and integrated elastic cross sections for $γp \goto J/ψp $ . With an energy dependence following the two-pomeron model we are able to give a consistent description of the integrated cross sections and the differential cross sections at low $|t|$ in the range from 20 GeV up to the highest HERA energies. We discuss diff…
We calculate the cross section for diffractive photoproduction of opposite-charge pseudoscalar meson pairs $M^+M^- = π^+ π^-$, $K^+ K^-$, $D^+ D^-$ and $B^+ B^-$ in a broad range of center-of-mass energies relevant for GlueX/Hall D, FOCUS, COMPASS and HERA experiments. In the case of $π^+π^-$ production we find that the interference of the $ρ^0$ resonance and the two-pion continuum leads to a considerable deformation of the shape of $ρ^0$ in agreement with the data from the ZEUS collaboration. We also discuss the spectral shape of the $ρ^0$ as a function of the momentum transfer and the contri…
In this letter we study the photoproduction of scalar mesons in the intermediate energies considering distinct mixing scenarios in the description of meson physical states. The differential and integrated total cross section are computed for the cases of the mesons a_0(980), f_0(1500) and f_0(1710) focusing the GlueX energy regime with photon energy equal to 9 GeV. Our results indicate that light-quark scalar meson photoproduction is well suited for studying hybrid mesons structure.
A study of the $\J$-meson photoproduction at large transverse momentum at HERA energies via the charm quark excitation in the photon is presented. Based on perturbative QCD, nonrelativistic quark model and photon structure function formalism, our calculation demonstrates that the charm content of the photon may be very important for the $\J$ photoproduction at the large transverse momentum. It is shown that at HERA energies $\J$ production via the subprocess $\cg$ dominates over the resolved photon contribution via the gluon-gluon fusion at $\pt\ge 2$ GeV/c and over the leading order direct ph…
We investigate photoproduction of axial vector meson $f_1(1285)$ based on the CLAS experiment $γp\to pf_1(1285)\to pηπ^+π^-$ using the Regge model for $ρ^0+ω$ exchanges. The combined analysis of $γp\to pη'\to pηπ^+π^-$ reaction including $η(1295)$ is accompanied to evaluate the decay mode $η(1295)\to ηπ^+π^-$ from the potential overlap with the $f_1$ reaction. The predominance of $ρ^0(770)$ exchange over the $ω(782)$ with the coupling constant $γρ^0f_1$ extracted from the CLAS experiment leads to a good description of the measured cross sections for $f_1$, while the scale of the cross section …
We calculate the centrality dependence for coherent photoproduction of very low-$p_{T}$ $J/ψ$ at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies within the impact parameter dependent saturated color dipole model. By using the large equivalent photon fluxes, we present the differential cross section of very low-$p_{T}$ $J/ψ$ produced by coherent photonuclear in peripheral heavy-ion collisions. The numerical results demonstrate that our calculation are agree with $J/ψ$ data in peripheral heavy ion collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energies.
In this work, the photoproduction of $a_{2}(1320)$ off a proton target is investigated within an effective Lagrangian approach and the Regge model. The theoretical result indicates that the shapes of {the} total and differential cross sections of the $γp\rightarrow a_{2}^{+}n$ reaction within the Feynman (isobar) model are much different from that of the Reggeized treatment. The obtained cross section is compared with the existing experimental results at low energies. The $a_{2}(1320)$ production cross section at high energies can be tested by the COMPASS experiment, which can provide importan…
We demonstrate how the elementary amplitudes $γN\to ΨN$, the amplitude of the nondiagonal $J/ψN\Leftrightarrow ψ' N$ transition, and the total $J/ψN$ and $ψ' N$ cross sections can be determined from measurements of the coherent $J/ψ$ and $ψ'$ photoproduction off light nuclei at moderate energies. For this purpose we provide a detailed numerical analysis of the coherent charmonium photoproduction off silicon within the generalized vector dominance model (GVDM) adjusted to account for the physics of charmonium models and color transparency phenomenon.
The reaction $γN \to ηN$ is studied in the high-energy regime (with photon lab energies $E_γ^{\textrm{lab}} > 4$ GeV) using information from the resonance region through the use of finite-energy sum rules (FESR). We illustrate how analyticity allows one to map the t-dependence of the unknown Regge residue functions. We provide predictions for the energy dependence of the beam asymmetry at high energies.
We study the photoproduction of exclusive $2π^+2π^-$ mesons in ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. Predictions in photon-nucleus interactions are calculated for various resonances at central and forward rapidities. The recent H1 preliminary data are utilized to improve the description of the poorly known $γp \to 4π^\pm p$ process. We present the comparisons of our results to the available STAR data at RHIC, and made predictions for LHC energies.
We present the calculation of O(as^2 aem) corrections to heavy-quarkonium total photoproduction cross-sections. Results are given for the colour-octet component of S and P waves. The calculation is performed using covariant projectors in dimensional regularization. A phenomenological study of the results, including a discussion of the high-energy behaviour of the cross sections, is presented. For gamma-p energies up to few hundred GeV the NLO corrections significantly reduce the scale dependence of the production rates relative to the Born-level results. Large small-x corrections arise at high…
In a transport model that combines initial state interactions of the photon with final state interactions of the produced particles we present a calculation of inclusive photoproduction of mesons in nuclei in the energy range from 1 to 7 GeV. We give predictions for the photoproduction cross sections of pions, etas, kaons, antikaons, and $π^+π^-$ invariant mass spectra in ^{12}C and ^{208}Pb. The effects of nuclear shadowing and final state interaction of the produced particles are discussed in detail.
We present a systematic analysis of backward pion photoproduction for the reactions gamma p -> pi0 p and gamma p -> pi+ n. Regge phenomenology is applied at invariant collision energies above 3 GeV in order to fix the reaction amplitude. A comparision with older data on pi0- and pi+ photoproduction at theta = 180 degrees indicates that the high-energy limit as given by the Regge calculation could be reached possibly at energies of around sqrt{s} = 3 GeV. In the energy region of sqrt{s} < 2.5 GeV, covered by the new measurements of gamma p -> pi0 p differential cross sections at large angles at…
The exclusive photoproduction of upsilon states $Υ(1S)$ and its radially excited states $Υ(2S,3S)$ is investigated in the context of ultra-peripheral collisions at the LHC energies. Predictions are presented for their production in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collision at the energies available at the LHC run 2. The rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are shown, and the robustness of the model is tested against the experimental results considering $ψ(1S,2S)$ and $Υ(1S)$ states. The theoretical framework considered in the analysis is the light-cone color dipole …
We investigate the theoretical uncertainty on the predictions for the photoproduction of $ρ$ and $J/Ψ$ states in nucleus-nucleus collisions at Run 2 LHC energies using the Color Dipole formalism. The results for rapidity distributions and total cross sections are presented. Moreover, we compare directly the theoretical results to the recent preliminary data from ALICE collaboration on $ρ$ production in $PbPb$ collisions at central rapidity.
We show that the recent measurements of the total photoproduction cross section at HERA energies [1] are in agreement with our earlier prediction based on high-energy hadronic structure of the photon in the QCD minijet-type model [2]. We discuss an improved calculation of the photoproduction cross section, in which the soft part, motivated by the Regge theory, is taken to be energy-dependent and the semi-hard hadronic part is carefully eikonalized to take into account for the multiple scatterings and to include the appropriate hadronic probability of the photon [3]. We show that the extrapolat…
We calculate the coherent charmonium photoproduction at intermediate energies accounting for the physics of the charmonium bound states and the dependence of the cross section on the region occupied by color using a correspondingly adjusted generalized vector dominance model (GVDM). In the photon energy domain where the coherence lengths are comparable to the average internucleon distances in nuclei and the nuclear radii we found that significant oscillations of the total and forward photoproduction cross sections governed by the longitudinal nuclear form factor are strongly modified by the ch…
