We consider soft photons effects (IR structure of QED) on the construction of physical qubits. Soft-photons appear when we build charged qubits from the asymptotic states of QED. This construction is necessary in order to include the effect of soft photons on entanglement measures. The nonexistence of free charged particles (due to the long range of QED interactions) lead us to question the sense of the very concept of free charged qubit. In this letter, using the "dressing" formalism, we build physical charged qubits from dressed fields which have the correct asymptotic behavior, are gauge invariant, their propagators have a particle pole structure and are free from infrared divergences. Finally, we discuss the impact of the soft corrections on the entanglement measures.
We introduce a design of a superconducting flux qubit capable of holding a full magnetic flux quantum $ϕ_{0}$, which arguably is an essential property for applications in charged particle optics. The qubit comprises a row of $N$ constituent qubits, which hold a fractional magnetic flux quantum $ϕ_{0}/N$. Insights from physics of the transverse-field Ising chain reveal that properly designed interaction between these constituent qubits enables their collective behavior while also maintaining the overall quantumness.
A superconducting qubit device suitable for interacting with a flying electron has recently been proposed [H. Okamoto and Y. Nagatani, Appl. Phys. Lett. \textbf{104}, 062604 (2014)]. Either a clockwise or counter clockwise directed loop of half magnetic flux quantum encodes a qubit, which naturally interacts with any single charged particle with arbitrary kinetic energy. Here, the device's properties, sources of errors and possible applications are studied in detail. In particular, applications include detection of a charged particle without applying a force to it. Furthermore, quantum states …
Photonic losses pose a major limitation for implementation of quantum state transfer between nodes of a quantum network. A measurement that heralds successful transfer without revealing any information about the qubit may alleviate this limitation. Here, we demonstrate heralded absorption of a single photonic qubit generated by a single neutral quantum dot, by a single-electron charged quantum dot that is located 5 meters away. The transfer of quantum information to the spin degree of freedom takes place upon emission of a photon: for a properly chosen or prepared quantum dot, detection of thi…

We propose an approach for an optical qubit rotation in the negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond. The qubit is encoded in the ground degenerate states at the relatively low temperature limit. The basic idea of the rotation procedure is the non-Abelian geometric phase in an adiabatic passage, which is produced by the nonadiabatic transition between the two degenerate dark states. The feasibility is based on the success of modeling the NV center as an excited-doublet four-level atom.
The dynamics of a charged two-qubit system prepared initially in a maximum entangled state is discussed, where each qubit interacts independently with a dephasing channel. The Fisher information is used to estimate the channel and the energy parameters. Moreover, the contribution from different parts of Fisher information is discussed. We show that, the degree of estimation of any parameter depends on the initial value of this parameter. It turns out that the upper bounds of Fisher information with respect to the dephasing parameter increase and that corresponding to coupling parameter decreas…
The time evolution of the trace distance between two states of an open quantum system may increase due to initial system-environment correlations, thus exhibiting a breakdown of distance contractivity of the reduced dynamics. We analyze how the time evolution of the distance depends on the chosen distance measure. Here we elucidate the behavior of the trace distance, the Hilbert- Schmidt distance, the Bures distance, the Hellinger distance and the quantum Jensen-Shannon divergence for two system-environment setups, namely a qubit bi-linearly coupled to an infinite and a finite size environment…
We propose a scheme to construct a deterministic CNOT gate on static electron-spin qubits, allowing for deterministic scalable quantum computing in solid-state systems. The excess electron confined in a charged quantum dot inside a double-sided optical microcavity represents the qubit, and the single photons play a medium role. Moreover, our device can work in both the weak coupling and the strong coupling regimes, but high fidelities are achieved only when the ratio of the side leakage to the cavity loss is low. Finally, we assess the feasibility of this device and show it can be implemented w…
We investigate minimax estimators for quantum state tomography under general Bregman divergences. First, generalizing the work of Komaki et al. $\href{http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/e19110618}{\textrm{[Entropy 19, 618 (2017)]}}$ for relative entropy, we find that given any estimator for a quantum state, there always exists a sequence of Bayes estimators that asymptotically perform at least as well as the given estimator, on any state. Second, we show that there always exists a sequence of priors for which the corresponding sequence of Bayes estimators is asymptotically minimax (i.e. it minimizes th…
We study many-party correlations quantified in terms of the Umegaki relative entropy (divergence) from a Gibbs family known as a hierarchical model. We derive these quantities from the maximum-entropy principle which was used earlier to define the closely related irreducible correlation. We point out differences between quantum states and probability vectors which exist in hierarchical models, in the divergence from a hierarchical model and in local maximizers of this divergence. The differences are, respectively, missing factorization, discontinuity and reduction of uncertainty. We discuss gl…
Cubic silicon carbide is an excellent platform for integration of defect qubits into established wafer scale device architectures for quantum information and sensing applications, where divacancy qubit, that is similar to the negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond, has favorable coherence properties. We demonstrate by means of density functional theory calculations that divacancy in 3C SiC has superior spin-stress coupling parameters and stress sensitivity for nanoscale, quantum enhanced photonic, optoelectronic and optomechanical devices.
In many quantum computer architectures, the qubits are in close proximity to metallic device elements. Metals have a high density of photon modes, and the fields spill out of the bulk metal because of the evanescent-wave component. Thus thermal and quantum electromagnetic Johnson- type noise from metallic device elements can decohere nearby qubits. In this paper we use quantum electrodynamics to compute the strength of this evanescent-wave Johnson noise as a function of distance z from a metallic half-space. Previous treatments have shown unphysical divergences at z = 0. We remedy this by usin…
In quantum information processing, a tension between two different tasks occurs: while qubits' states can be preserved by isolating them, quantum gates can be realized only through qubit-qubit interactions. In arrays of qubits, weak coupling leads to states being spatially localized and strong coupling to delocalized states. Here, we study the average energy level spacing and the relative entropy of the distribution of the level spacings (Kullback-Leibler divergence from Poisson and Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble) to analyze the crossover between localized and delocalized (chaotic) regimes in li…
We propose a computational protocol for quantum simulations of Fermionic Hamiltonians on a quantum computer, enabling calculations which were previously not feasible with conventional encoding and ansatses of variational quantum eigensolvers (VQE). We combine a qubit-efficient encoding scheme mapping Slater determinants onto qubits with a modified qubit-coupled cluster ansatz and noise-mitigation techniques. Our strategy leads to a substantial improvement in the scaling of circuit gate counts and to a decrease in the number of required variational parameters, thus increasing the resilience to …
Two-electron charged self-assembled quantum dot molecules exhibit a decoherence-avoiding singlet-triplet qubit subspace and an efficient spin-photon interface. We demonstrate quantum entanglement between emitted photons and the spin-qubit after the emission event. We measure the overlap with a fully entangled state to be $69.5\pm2.7\,\%$, exceeding the threshold of $50\,\%$ required to prove the non-separability of the density matrix of the system. The photonic qubit is encoded in two photon states with an energy difference larger than the timing resolution of existing detectors. We devise a n…
The recent realization of coherent single-electron sources in ballistic conductors let us envision performing time-resolved electronic interferometry experiments analogous to quantum optics experiments. One could eventually use propagating electronic excitations as flying qubits. However an important missing brick is the single-shot electron detection which would enable a complete quantum information operation with flying qubits. Here, we propose and discuss the design of a single charge detector able to achieve in-flight detection of electron flying qubits. Its sub-electron sensitivity would a…
Accelerating electrons are known to radiate electromagnetic waves, a property that is central to the concept of many devices, from antennas to synchrotrons. While the electrodynamics of accelerating charged particles is well understood, the same is not true for charged matter waves: would a locally accelerating charged matter wave, like its particle counterpart, radiate? Here we construct a novel class of matter waves, angular accelerating electron waves, by superpositions of twisted electrons carrying orbital angular momentum. We study the electrodynamic behaviour of such accelerating matter …
Classical and quantum properties of scattering of charged particles in ultrathin crystals are considered. A comparison is made of these two ways of study of scattering process. In the classical consideration we remark the appearance of sharp maxima that is referred to the manifestation of the rainbow scattering phenomenon and in quantum case we show the sharp maxima that arise from the interference of single electrons on numerous crystal planes, that can be expressed in the terms of reciprocal lattice vectors. We show that for some parameters quantum predictions substantially differ from the c…
The quantum mechanics of Rotating, Charged, de Sitter and String Theory black holes are of recent interest because of their peculiar thermodynamic properties, as well the mysterious nature of their microstates. A full quantum treatment of the operators involved in this systems could yield valuable information into their nature, similar to how quantum treatment yields valuable insight into atoms, molecules and elementary particles. We study four types of black holes using quantum computing, which include the 3D Rotating Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole, the 4D charged Reisner-Nordtro…
Physical implementations of large-scale quantum processors based on solid-state platforms benefit from realizations of quantum bits positioned in regular arrays. Self-assembled quantum dots are well-established as promising candidates for quantum optics and quantum information processing, but they are randomly positioned. Site-controlled quantum dots, on the other hand, are grown in pre-defined locations, but have not yet been sufficiently developed to be used as a platform for quantum information processing. In this letter we demonstrate all-optical ultrafast complete coherent control of a qu…
Photonic time bin qubits are well suited to transmission via optical fibres and waveguide circuits. The states take the form $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}(α\ket{0} + e^{iϕ}β\ket{1})$, with $\ket{0}$ and $\ket{1}$ referring to the early and late time bin respectively. By controlling the phase of a laser driving a spin-flip Raman transition in a single-hole-charged InAs quantum dot we demonstrate complete control over the phase, $ϕ$. We show that this photon generation process can be performed deterministically, with only a moderate loss in coherence. Finally, we encode different qubits in different energ…
A key ingredient for a quantum network is an interface between stationary quantum bits and photons, which act as flying qubits for interactions and communication. Photonic crystal architectures are promising platforms for enhancing the coupling of light to solid state qubits. Quantum dots can be integrated into a photonic crystal, with optical transitions coupling to photons and spin states forming a long-lived quantum memory. Many researchers have now succeeded in coupling these emitters to photonic crystal cavities, but there have been no demonstrations of a functional spin qubit and quantum…
We study relaxation of a moving spin qubit caused by phonon noise. As we vary the speed of the qubit, we observe several interesting features in spin relaxation and the associated phonon emission, induced by Doppler effect. In particular, in the supersonic regime, the phonons emitted by the relaxing qubit is concentrated along certain directions, similar to the shock waves produced in classical Cherenkov effect. As the speed of the moving qubit increases from the subsonic regime to the supersonic regime, the qubit experiences a peak in the spin relaxation rate near the speed of sound, which we…
In this paper, we present a proof-of-principle of the formation of pure maximally entangled states from the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger class, in the experimental context of charged quantum dots. Each qubit must be identified as a pair of quantum dots, sharing an excess electron, coupled by tunneling. The electron-electron interaction is accounted for and is responsible for the coupling between the qubits. The interplay between coherent tunneling events and many-body interaction gives rise to the formation of highly entangled states. We begin by treating the problem of encoding three-qubits in…
We identify a nontrivial 4-state Landau-Zener model for which transition probabilities between any pair of diabatic states can be determined analytically and exactly. The model describes an experimentally accessible system of two interacting qubits, such as a localized state in a Dirac material with both valley and spin degrees of freedom or a singly charged quantum dot (QD) molecule with spin orbit coupling. Application of the linearly time-dependent magnetic field induces a sequence of quantum level crossings with possibility of interference of different trajectories in a semiclassical pictu…
We present a Heisenberg-Langevin formalism to study the effective dynamics of a superconducting qubit coupled to an open multimode resonator, without resorting to the rotating wave, two level, Born or Markov approximations. Our effective equations are derived by eliminating resonator degrees of freedom while encoding their effect in the Green's function of the electromagnetic background. We account for the openness of the resonator exactly by employing a spectral representation for the Green's function in terms of a set of non-Hermitian modes. A well-behaved time domain perturbation theory is …
We investigate the influence of the vacuum fluctuations of a background electric field over a charged test particle in the presence of a perfectly reflecting flat wall. A switching function connecting different stages of the system is implemented in such a way that its functional dependence is determined by the ratio between the measuring time and the switching duration. The dispersions of the velocity components of the particle are found to be smooth functions of time, and have maximum magnitudes for a measuring time corresponding to about one round trip of a light signal between the particle…
The electron spin state of a singly charged semiconductor quantum dot has been shown to form a suitable single qubit for quantum computing architectures with fast gate times. A key challenge in realizing a useful quantum dot quantum computing architecture lies in demonstrating the ability to scale the system to many qubits. In this letter, we report an all optical experimental demonstration of quantum entanglement between a single electron spin confined to single charged semiconductor quantum dot and the polarization state of a photon spontaneously emitted from the quantum dot's excited state.…

We show that a micromaser is an excellent model of quantum battery. A highly excited, pure, and effectively steady state of the cavity mode, charged by coherent qubits, can be achieved, also in the ultrastrong coupling regime of field-matter interaction. Stability of these appealing features against loss of coherence of the qubits and the effect of counter-rotating terms in the interaction Hamiltonian are also discussed.
The coherent coupling of flying photonic qubits to stationary matter-based qubits is an essential building block for quantum communication networks. We show how such a quantum interface can be realized between a traveling-wave optical field and the polarized nuclear spins in a singly charged quantum dot strongly coupled to a high-finesse optical cavity. By adiabatically eliminating the electron a direct effective coupling is achieved. Depending on the laser field applied, interactions that enable either write-in or read-out are obtained.
Single-shot read-out of individual qubits is typically the slowest process among the elementary single- and two-qubit operations required for quantum information processing. Here, we use resonance fluorescence from a single-electron charged quantum dot to read-out the spin-qubit state in 800 nanoseconds with a fidelity exceeding 80%. Observation of the spin evolution on longer timescales reveals quantum jumps of the spin state: we use the experimentally determined waiting-time distribution to characterize the quantum jumps. Embedding a quantum dot in a photonic nanostructure could be used to e…
Group-IV color centers in diamond are a promising light-matter interface for quantum networking devices. The negatively charged tin-vacancy center (SnV) is particularly interesting, as its large spin-orbit coupling offers strong protection against phonon dephasing and robust cyclicity of its optical transitions towards spin-photon entanglement schemes. Here, we demonstrate multi-axis coherent control of the SnV spin qubit via an all-optical stimulated Raman drive between the ground and excited states. We use coherent population trapping and optically driven electronic spin resonance to confirm…
