Coherent coupling of two qubits mediated by a nonlinear resonator is studied. It is shown that the amount of entanglement accessible in the evolution depends both on the strength of nonlinearity in the Hamiltonian of the resonator and on the initial preparation of the system. The created entanglement survives in the presence of decoherence.
A system consisting of two qubits and a resonator is considered in the presence of different sources of noise, bringing to light the possibility for making the two qubits evolve in a synchronized way. A direct qubit-qubit interaction turns out to be a crucial ingredient as well as dissipation processes involving the resonator. The detrimental role of local dephasing of the qubits is also taken into account.
We introduce a protocol capable of generating a general measurement operator for a mechanical resonator. The technique requires a qubit-resonator interaction and uses a coherent pulse to drive qubit transitions. This is followed by projective measurement of the qubit's energy, constraining the resonator in a state that depends on the pulse shape. The freedom to choose a pulse shape for the coherent drive enables an arbitrary position-basis measurement operator. Using this measurement operator, we outline a two pulse protocol that probabilistically generates a pure mechanical state with a desir…
We examine the non-stationary evolution of a coupled qubit-transmission line-resonator system coupled to an external drive and the resonator environment. By solving the equation for a non-stationary resonator field, we determined the requirements for a single-shot non-destructive dispersive measurement of the phase qubit state. Reliable isolation of the qubit from the "electromagnetic environment" is necessary for a dispersive readout and can be achieved if the whole system interacts with the external fields only through the resonator that is weakly coupled to the qubit. A set of inequalities …
We analyze the performance of the Resonator/zero-Qubit (RezQu) architecture in which the qubits are complemented with memory resonators and coupled via a resonator bus. Separating the stored information from the rest of the processing circuit by at least two coupling steps and the zero qubit state results in a significant increase of the ON/OFF ratio and the reduction of the idling error. Assuming no decoherence, we calculate such idling error, as well as the errors for the MOVE operation and tunneling measurement, and show that the RezQu architecture can provide high fidelity performance requ…
We analyze the dynamics of a qubit-resonator system coupled with a thermal bath and external electromagnetic fields. Using the evolution equations for the set of Heisenberg operators, that describe the whole system, we derive an expression for the resonator field, accounting for the resonator-drive,-bath, and -qubit interaction. The renormalization of the resonator frequency, caused by the qubit-resonator interaction, is accounted for. Using solutions for the resonator field, we derive the equation describing qubit dynamics. The influence of the qubit evolution during the measurement time on t…
When the nonlinearity of nanomechanical resonator is not negligible, the quantum decoherence of charge qubit is studied analytically. Using nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model, one explores the possibility of being quantum data bus for nonlinear nanomechanical resonator, the nonlinearity destroys the dynamical quantum information-storage and maintains the revival of quantum coherence of charge qubit. With the calculation of decoherence factor, we demonstrate the influence of the nonlinearity of nanomechanical resonator on engineered decoherence of charge qubit.
Coupling a resonator to a superconducting qubit enables various operations on the qubit, including dispersive readout and unconditional reset. The speed of these operations is limited by the external decay rate of the resonator. However, increasing the decay rate also increases the rate of qubit decay via the resonator, limiting the qubit lifetime. Here, we demonstrate that the resonator-mediated qubit decay can be suppressed by utilizing the distributed-element, multi-mode nature of the resonator. We show that the suppression exceeds two orders of magnitude over a bandwidth of 600 MHz. We use…
We analyze the steady-state entanglement between Bose-Einstein condensate trapped inside an optical cavity with a moving end mirror (nanomechanical resonator) driven by a single mode laser. The quantized laser field mediates the interaction between the Bose-Einstein condensate and nanomechanical resonator. In particular, we study the influence of temperature on the entanglement of the coupled system, and note that the steady-state entanglement is fragile with respect to temperature.
Quantum thermal transport and two-photon statistics serve as two representative nonequilibrium features in circuit quantum electrodynamics systems. Here, we investigate quantum heat flow and two-photon correlation function at steady-state in a composite qubit-resonator model, where one qubit shows both transverse and longitudinal couplings to a single-mode optical resonator. With weak qubit-resonator interaction, we unravel two microscopic transport pictures, i.e., cotunneling and cyclic heat exchange processes, corresponding to transverse and longitudinal couplings respectively. At strong qub…
We explore applications of nonlinear circuit QED with a charge qubit inductively coupled to a microwave LC resonator in the photonic engineering and ultrastrong-coupling multiphoton quantum optics. Simply sweeping the gate-voltage bias achieves arbitrary Fock-state pulsed maser, where the single qubit plays the role of artificial gain medium. Resonantly pumping the parametric qubit-resonator interface leads to the squeezing of resonator field, which is utilizable to the quantum-limited microwave amplification. Moreover, upwards and downwards multiphoton quantum jumps may be observed in the ste…
We propose a resonator-assisted entangling gate for spin qubits with high fidelity. Each spin qubit corresponds to two electrons in a nanowire double quantum dot, with the singlet and one of the triplets as the logical qubit states. The gate is effected by virtual charge dipole transitions. We include noise in our model to show feasibility of the scheme under current experimental conditions.
In this paper, we propose a scheme to implement two-qubit logic gates with a controllable and selective interaction in a scalable superconducting circuit of charge qubits. A nanomechanical resonator is used as a data bus to connect qubits. It is indicated that a controllable interaction between qubits can be obtained by making use of the data bus. It is shown that a selective interaction between qubits can be realized when many qubits are involved in the system under our consideration.

We propose a scalable and robust architecture for one-way quantum computation using coupled networks of superconducting transmission line resonators. In our protocol, quantum information is encoded into the long-lived photon states of the resonators, which have a much longer coherence time than the usual superconducting qubits. Each resonator contains a charge qubit used for the state initialization and local projective measurement of the photonic qubit. Any pair of neighboring photonic qubits are coupled via a mediator charge qubit, and large photonic cluster states can be created by applying…
We demonstrate production of quantum correlated and entangled beams by second harmonic generation in a nonlinear resonator with two output ports. The output beams at wavelength 428.5 nm exhibit 0.9 dB of nonclassical intensity correlations and 0.3 dB of entanglement.
We demonstrate ultra-sensitive measurement of fluctuations in a surface-acoustic-wave~(SAW) resonator using a hybrid quantum system consisting of the SAW resonator, a microwave (MW) resonator and a superconducting qubit. The nonlinearity of the driven qubit induces parametric coupling, which up-converts the excitation in the SAW resonator to that in the MW resonator. Thermal fluctuations of the SAW resonator near the quantum limit are observed in the noise spectroscopy in the MW domain.
We propose a scheme of tunable coupler based on quarter-wave resonator for scalable quantum integrated circuits. The open end of the T-type resonator is capacitively coupled to two Xmon qubits, while another end is an asymmetric dc-SQUID which dominates the inductive energy of coupler resonator. The dc-Current applied through the flux bias line could change the magnetic flux inside the dc-SQUID, so the frequency of coupler resonator can be effectively tuned and the qubit-qubit coupling can be totally switched off. As the increase of junction asymmetry for the dc-SQUID, the coupling of SQUID's …
We describe a simple, practical scheme for generating multi-qubit W states in resonator-based architectures, in which N Josephson phase qubits are capacitively coupled to a common resonator bus. The entire control sequence consists of three pulses: a local Rabi pulse that excites a single qubit in the circuit; a coupling pulse that transfers the qubit excitation to the resonator bus; and the main, entangling operation that simultaneously couples the bus to all N qubits. If the qubit-resonator coupling strength g is much smaller than the qubit energy splitting, the system initially excited into…
We calculate the transmission spectra of a flux qubit coupled to a dissipative resonator in the ultrastrong coupling regime. Such a qubit-oscillator system constitutes the building block of superconducting circuit QED platforms. The calculated transmission of a weak probe field quantifies the response of the qubit, in frequency domain, under the sole influence of the oscillator and of its dissipative environment, an Ohmic heat bath. We find the distinctive features of the qubit-resonator system, namely two-dip structures in the calculated transmission, modified by the presence of the dissipati…
We describe a scheme that enables a strong coherent coupling between a topological qubit and the quantized motion of a magnetized nanomechanical resonator. This coupling is achieved by attaching an array of magnetic tips to a namomechanical resonator under a quantum phase controller which coherently controls the energy gap of a topological qubit. Combined with single-qubit rotations the strong coupling enables arbitrary unitary transformations on the hybrid system of topological and mechanical qubits and may pave the way for the quantum information transfer between topological and optical qubi…
We study a tripartite quantum system consisting of a coplanar-waveguide (CPW) resonator and a nanomechanical resonator (NAMR) connected by a flux qubit, where the flux qubit has a large detuning from both resonators. By a unitray transformation and a second-order approximation, we obtain a strong and controllable (i.e., magnetic-field-dependent) effective coupling between the NAMR and the CPW resonator. Due to the strong coupling, vacuum Rabi splitting can be observed from the voltage-fluctuation spectrum of the CPW resonator. We further study the properties of single photon transport as infer…
We propose a way for implementing quantum information transfer with two superconducting flux qubits, by coupling them to a resonator. This proposal does not require adjustment of the level spacings or uniformity in the device parameters. Moreover, neither adiabatic passage nor a second-order detuning is needed by this proposal, thus the operation can be performed much faster when compared with the previous proposals.
We theoretically propose a circuit QED system implemented with triple-leg stripline resonator (TSR). Unlikely from linear stripline resonator, the fundamental intra-cavity microwave modes of the TSR are two-fold degenerate. When a superconducting qubit is placed near one of the TSR legs, one fundamental mode is directly coupled to the qubit, while the other one remains uncoupled. Our system closely resembles an optical cavity QED system, where an atom in a cavity couples only to the incident photon with a specific polarization by placing a polarization beamsplitter in front of the optical cavi…
We control transition frequency of a superconducting flux qubit coupled to a frequency-tunable resonator comprising a direct current superconducting quantum interference device (dc-SQUID) by microwave driving. The dc-SQUID mediates the coupling between microwave photons in the resonator and a flux qubit. The polarity of the frequency shift depends on the sign of the flux bias for the qubit and can be both positive and negative. The absolute value of the frequency shift becomes larger by increasing the photon number in the resonator. These behaviors are reproduced by a model considering the mag…

In addition to their central role in quantum information processing, qubits have proven to be useful tools in a range of other applications such as enhanced quantum sensing and as spectrometers of quantum noise. Here we show that a superconducting qubit strongly coupled to a nonlinear resonator can act as a probe of quantum fluctuations of the intra-resonator field. Building on previous work [M. Boissoneault et al. Phys. Rev. A 85, 022305 (2012)], we derive an effective master equation for the qubit which takes into account squeezing of the resonator field. We show how sidebands in the qubit e…
We propose a scheme able to generate stationary continuous variable entanglement between an optical and a microwave cavity mode by means of their common interaction with a micro-mechanical resonator. We show that when both cavities are intensely driven one can generate bipartite entanglement between any pair of the tripartite system, and that, due to entanglement sharing, optical-microwave entanglement is efficiently generated at the expense of microwave-mechanical and opto-mechanical entanglement.
Autonomous quantum thermal machines do not require an external coherent drive or work input to perform the desired tasks, which makes them a promising candidate for thermal management in quantum systems. Here, we propose an autonomous quantum thermal machine in which two uncoupled macroscopic mechanical resonators or microwave resonators achieve considerable entanglement via a hot thermal bath. This becomes possible by coupling the resonators to a common two-level system or third harmonic oscillator and driving it by the hot incoherent thermal bath. The critical step to make the entanglement i…
An approach to use the method of Laplace transform for the perturbative solution of the Schrödinger equation at any order of the perturbation for a system of $N$ qubits coupled to a cavity with $n$ photons is suggested. We investigate the dynamics of a system of $N$ superconducting qubits coupled to a common resonator with time-dependent coupling. To account for the contribution of the dynamical Lamb effect to the probability of excitation of the qubit, we consider counter-rotating terms in the qubit-photon interaction Hamiltonian. As an example, we illustrate the method for the case of two qu…
We propose a tunable nonlinear interaction for the implementation of quantum logic operations on pairs of superconducting resonators, where the two-resonator interaction is mediated by a transmon quantum bit (qubit). This interaction is characterized by a high on-to-off coupling ratio and allows for fast qubit-type and $d$-level system (qudit)-type operations for quantum information processing with multiphoton cavity states. We present analytical and numerical calculations showing that these operations can be performed with practically unit fidelity in absence of any dissipative phenomena, whe…
A standard model is suggested to explore correlation features of two spatially separated optomechanical cavities. The cavities are coupled through the photon-hopping process. In particular, we investigate the generation of entanglement between mechanical resonators in the strong coupling regime and the two cavities are assumed to be driven by a coherent laser field. In order to quantify entanglement we use the logarithmic negativity. The analytical solutions are presented for the system in a parameter regime very close to the current experimental results. We show that in the presence of the ph…
We propose the use of a superconducting charge qubit capacitively coupled to two resonant nanomechanical resonators to generate Yurke-Stoler states, i.e. quantum superpositions of pairs of distinguishable coherent states 180$^\circ$ out of phase with each other. This is achieved by effectively implementing Kerr nonlinearities induced through application of a strong external driving field in one of the resonators. A simple study of the effect of dissipation on our scheme is also presented, and lower bounds of fidelity and purity of the generated state are calculated. Our procedure to implement …
The process of measurement of a phase qubit by a resonant microwave cavity is considered for various interactions between the qubit and the cavity. A novel quasiclassical approach is described based on adiabatic reversals of the qubit state by an effective field. A similar approach was implemented earlier for the detection of electron and nuclear spins using magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM), but this approach has not previously been used for the measurement of a quantum state. Quasiclassical and quantum regimes are described. We consider both linear and nonlinear resonators. The effe…
We propose a novel architecture for superconducting circuits to improve the efficiency of a quantum annealing system. To increase the capability of a circuit, it is desirable for a qubit to be coupled not only with adjacent qubits but also with other qubits located far away. We introduce a circuit that uses a lumped element resonator coupled each with one qubit. The resonator-qubit pairs are coupled by rf-superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) based couplers. These pairs make a large quantum system for quantum annealer. This system could prepare the problem Hamiltonian and tune th…
We present a scalable quantum-bus-based device for generating the entanglement on microwave photons (MPs) in distant superconducting resonators (SRs). Different from the processors in previous works with some resonators coupled to a superconducting qubit (SQ), our device is composed of some 1D SRs $r_j$ which are coupled to the quantum bus (another common resonator $R$) in its different positions simply, assisted by superconducting quantum interferometer devices. By using the technique for catching and releasing a MP state in a 1D SR, it can work as an entanglement generator or a node in quant…
Superconducting qubits are a promising candidate for building a quantum computer. A continued challenge for fast yet accurate gates to minimize the effects of decoherence. Here we apply numerical methods to design fast entangling gates, specifically the controlled Z, in an architecture where two qubits are coupled via a resonator. We find that the gates can be sped up by a factor of two and reach any target fidelity. We also discuss how systematic errors arising from experimental conditions affect the pulses and how to remedy them, providing a strategy for the experimental implementation of ou…
We demonstrate quantum bath engineering for preparation of any orbital state with controllable phase factor of a superconducting flux qubit assisted by a microwave coplanar waveguide resonator. We investigate the polarization efficiency of the arbitrary direction rotating on the Bloch sphere, and obtain an effective Rabi frequency by using the convergence condition of Markovian master equation. The processes of polarization can be implemented effectively in a dissipative environment created by resonator photon loss when the spectrum of the microwave resonator matches with the specially tailore…
We present a way to realize a $n$-qubit controlled phase gate with superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) by coupling them to a superconducting resonator. In this proposal, the two logical states of a qubit are represented by the two lowest levels of a SQUID. An intermediate level of each SQUID is utilized to facilitate coherent control and manipulation of quantum states of the qubits. It is interesting to note that a $n$-qubit controlled phase gate can be achieved with $n$ SQUIDs by successively applying a $π/2$ Jaynes-Cummings pulse to each of the $n-1$ control SQUIDs before a…
We consider a simple model of a Josephson junction phase qubit coupled to a solid-state nanoelectromechanical resonator. This and many related qubit-resonator models are analogous to an atom in an electromagnetic cavity. When the systems are weakly coupled and nearly resonant, the dynamics is accurately described by the rotating-wave approximation (RWA) or the Jaynes-Cummings model of quantum optics. However, the desire to develop faster quantum-information-processing protocols necessitates approximate, yet analytic descriptions that are valid for more strongly coupled qubit-resonator systems.…
We describe the design for a scalable, solid-state quantum-information-processing architecture based on the integration of GHz-frequency nanomechanical resonators with Josephson tunnel junctions, which has the potential for demonstrating a variety of single- and multi-qubit operations critical to quantum computation. The computational qubits are eigenstates of large-area, current-biased Josephson junctions, manipulated and measured using strobed external circuitry. Two or more of these phase qubits are capacitively coupled to a high-quality-factor piezoelectric nanoelectromechanical disk reson…
We discuss the ground state entanglement of a bi-partite system, composed by a qubit strongly interacting with an oscillator mode, as a function of the coupling strenght, the transition frequency and the level asymmetry of the qubit. This is done in the adiabatic regime in which the time evolution of the qubit is much faster than the oscillator one. Within the adiabatic approximation, we obtain a complete characterization of the ground state properties of the system and of its entanglement content.
In this paper we study the time evolution of the entanglement between two remote NV Centers (nitrogen vacancy in diamond) connected by a dual-mode nanomechanical resonator with magnetic tips on both sides. Calculating the negativity as a measure for the entanglement, we find that the entanglement between two spins oscillates with time and can be manipulated by varying the parameters of the system. We observed the phe- nomenon of a sudden death and the periodic revivals of entanglement in time. For the study of quantum deco- herence, we implement a Lindblad master equation. In spite of its comp…
We perform an analysis of the optomechanical entanglement between the experimentally detectable output field of an optical cavity and a vibrating cavity end-mirror. We show that by a proper choice of the readout (mainly by a proper choice of detection bandwidth) one can not only detect the already predicted intracavity entanglement but also optimize and increase it. This entanglement is explained as being generated by a scattering process owing to which strong quantum correlations between the mirror and the optical Stokes sideband are created. All-optical entanglement between scattered sideban…
The resonator-induced phase (RIP) gate is a multi-qubit entangling gate that allows a high degree of flexibility in qubit frequencies, making it attractive for quantum operations in large-scale architectures. We experimentally realize the RIP gate with four superconducting qubits in a three-dimensional (3D) circuit-quantum electrodynamics architecture, demonstrating high-fidelity controlled-Z (CZ) gates between all possible pairs of qubits from two different 4-qubit devices in pair subspaces. These qubits are arranged within a wide range of frequency detunings, up to as large as 1.8 GHz. We fu…
We show that non-classical intensity correlations and quadrature entanglement can be generated by frequency doubling in a resonator with two output ports. We predict twin-beam intensity correlations 6 dB below the coherent state limit, and that the product of the inference variances of the quadrature fluctuations gives an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation coefficient of V_EPR = 0.6 < 1. Comparison with an entanglement source based on combining two frequency doublers with a beam splitter shows that the dual ported resonator provides stronger entanglement at lower levels of individual be…
Dynamical properties of a resonator can be analyzed using the Rayleigh-Lorentz invariant which is not an exact constant but varies more or less over time. We investigate the time behavior of this invariant for a flux qubit resonator in order for better understanding of qubit-information detection with the resonator. Flux qubit resonators can be utilized in implementing diverse next generation nano-optic and nano-electronic devices such as quantum computing systems. Through the analyses of the temporal evolution of the invariant, we derive a condition for optimal adiabatic qubit-information det…
In the circuit quantum electrodynamics architecture, both the resonance frequency and the coupling of superconducting qubits to microwave field modes can be controlled via external electric and magnetic fields to explore qubit -- photon dynamics in a wide parameter range. Here, we experimentally demonstrate and analyze a scheme for tuning the coupling between a transmon qubit and a microwave resonator using a single coherent drive tone. We treat the transmon as a three-level system with the qubit subspace defined by the ground and the second excited states. If the drive frequency matches the d…
An adiabatic method for a single-shot non-demolition measurement of the phase qubit is suggested. The qubit is inductively coupled to a low-frequency resonator, which in turn is connected with a classical measurement device (phase meter). The resonator drives adiabatic oscillations of the supercurrent in the qubit loop. The back reaction of the qubit loop on the resonator depends on the qubit state. Measuring the phase shift of the resonator's oscillations one can determine the state of the qubit. Numerical computations with available experimental parameters show that the phase difference betw…
Quantum battery (QB) is the miniature energy storage and release device and plays a crucial role in future quantum technology. Here, an implementation scheme of a QB is proposed on a superconducting circuit which is composed by $N$ coupled transmon qubits and a one-dimensional transmission line resonator. We derive the Hamiltonian of the QB system and investigate its charging performance by considering three decay channels. We find that the presence of the decay channels suppresses the high oscillation of the energy storage process, thereby realizing a stable and powerful QB. In particular, co…
A hybrid quantum system consisting of spatially separated two-level atoms is studied. Two atoms do not interact directly, but they are coupled via an intermediate system which is consisting of a superconducting flux qubit interacting with a mechanical and an electrical resonator which are coupled to one of the atoms. Moreover, the superconducting flux qubit is driven by a classical microwave field. Applying the adiabatic elimination an effective Hamiltonian for the atomic subsystem is obtained. Our results demonstrate that the entanglement degradation decay as well as the fidelity decay in the…
We investigate steady-state thermal transport and photon statistics in a nonequilibrium hybrid quantum system, in which a qubit is longitudinally and quadratically coupled to an optical resonator. Our calculations are conducted with the method of the quantum dressed master equation combined with full counting statistics. The effect of negative differential thermal conductance is unravelled at finite temperature bias, which stems from the suppression of cyclic heat transitions and large mismatch of two squeezed photon modes at weak and strong qubit-resonator hybridizations, respectively. The gi…
Considering the intrinsic nonlinearity in a nanomechanical resonator coupled to a charge qubit, vacuum Rabi splitting effect is studied in a nanomechanical QED (qubit-resonator) system. A driven nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model describes the dynamics of this qubit-resonator system. Using quantum regression theorem and master equation approach, we have calculated the two-time correlation spectrum analytically. In the weak driving limit, these analytical results clarify the influence of the driving strength and nonlinearity parameter on the correlation spectrum. Also, numerical calculations confi…
