We study the dynamics of open quantum many-body systems driven across a critical point by quenching an Hamiltonian parameter at a certain velocity. General scaling laws are derived for the density of excitations and energy produced during the quench as a function of quench velocity and bath temperature. The scaling laws and their regimes of validity are verified for the XY spin chain locally coupled to bosonic baths. A detailed derivation and analysis of the kinetic equation of the problem is presented.
The adiabatic piston problem is solved at the mesoscale using a Kinetic Theory approach. The problem is to determine the evolution towards equilibrium of two gases separated by a wall with only one degree of freedom (the adiabatic piston). A closed system of equations for the distribution functions of the gases conditioned to a position of the piston and the distribution function of the piston is derived from the Liouville equation, under the assumption of a generalized molecular chaos. It is shown that the resulting kinetic description has the canonical equilibrium as a steady-state solution.…
The dissipative curve-crossing problem provides a paradigm for electron-transfer (ET) processes in condensed media. It establishes the simplest conceptual test bed to study the influence of the medium's dynamics on ET kinetics both on the ensemble level, and on the level of single particles. Single electron description is particularly important for nanoscale systems. Slow medium's dynamics is capable to enslave ET and bring it on the ensemble level from a quantum regime of non-adiabatic tunneling to the classical adiabatic regime, where electrons just follow the nuclei rearrangements. This cla…
Spinodal decomposition in a near-critical binary fluid is examined for experimental scenarios in which the liquid is quenched abruptly by changing the pressure and the subsequent phase separation occurs with no heat flow from the outside, i.e., adiabatically. Equations of motion for the system volume and effective temperature are derived. It is shown that for this case that the nonequilibrium decomposition process is well approximated as one of constant entropy, i.e., as thermodynamically reversible. Quantitative comparison, with no adjustable parameters, is made with experimental light scatte…
Geometric quantum speed limits quantify the trade-off between the rate with which quantum states can change and the resources that are expended during the evolution. Counterdiabatic driving is a unique tool from shortcuts to adiabaticity to speed up quantum dynamics while completely suppressing nonequilibrium excitations. We show that the quantum speed limit for counterdiabatically driven systems undergoing quantum phase transitions fully encodes the Kibble-Zurek mechanism by correctly predicting the transition from adiabatic to impulse regimes. Our findings are demonstrated for three scenario…
We present the first systematic observation of scaling of thermal hysteresis with the temperature scanning rate around an abrupt thermodynamic transition in correlated electron systems. We show that the depth of supercooling and superheating in vanadium sesquioxide (V2O3) shifts with the temperature quench rates. The dynamic scaling exponent is close to the mean field prediction of 2/3. These observations, combined with the purely dissipative continuous ordering seen in "quench-and-hold" experiments, indicate departures from classical nucleation theory toward a barrier-free phase ordering asso…

Nagel scaling and relaxation in the kinetic Ising model on a n-isotopic chain
L. Goncalves,M. Lopez de Haro,J. Taguena-Martinez和R. B. Stinchcombe,Phys. Rev. Lett. 84,1507(2000)),其将该新的缩放函数与多重弛豫过程相关联。
Long-range spatiotemporal correlations may play important roles in nonequilibrium surface growth process. In order to investigate the effects of long-range temporal correlation on dynamic scaling of growing surfaces, we perform extensive numerical simulations of the (1+1)- and (2+1)-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) growth system in the presence of temporally correlated noise, and compare our results with previous theoretical predictions and numerical simulations. We find that surface morphologies are obviously affected with long-range temporal correlations, and as the temporal correlation…
Dynamics of a system exhibits non-adiabaticity even for slow quenches near critical points. We analyze the response to disorder in quenches on a non-adiabaticity quantifier for the quantum Rabi model, which possesses a phase transition between normal and superradiant phases. We consider a disordered version of a quench in the Rabi model, in which the system residing in the ground state of an initial Hamiltonian of the normal phase is quenched to the final Hamiltonian corresponding to the critical point. The disorder is inserted either in the total time the quench or in the quench parameter its…
With use of the scheme of fast forward which realizes quasi-static or adiabatic dynamics in shortened time scale, we investigate a thermally-isolated ideal quantum gas confined in a rapidly dilating one-dimensional (1D) cavity with the time-dependent size $L=L(t)$. In the fast-forward variants of equation of states, i.e., Bernoulli's formula and Poisson's adiabatic equation, the force or 1D analog of pressure can be expressed as a function of the velocity ($\dot{L}$) and acceleration ($\ddot{L}$) of $L$ besides rapidly-changing state variables like effective temperature ($T$) and $L$ itself. T…
We study the non-equilibrium dynamics due to slowly taking a quasiperiodic Hamiltonian across its quantum critical point. The special quasiperiodic Hamiltonian that we study here has two different types of critical lines belonging to two different universality classes, one of them being the well known quantum Ising universality class. In this paper, we verify the Kibble Zurek scaling which predicts a power law scaling of the density of defects generated as a function of the rate of variation of the Hamiltonian. The exponent of this power law is related to the equilibrium critical exponents ass…
In this work we focus on two questions. One, we complement the machinary to calculate geometric phases along adiabatic cycles as follows. The geometric phase is a line integral along an adiabatic cycle, and if the cycle encircles a degeneracy point, the phase becomes non-trivial. If the cycle crosses the degeneracy point the phase diverges. We construct quantities which are well-defined when the path crosses the degeneracy point. We do this by constructing a generalized Bargmann invariant, and noting that it can be interpreted as a cumulant generating function, with the geometric phase being t…
Features of the crystallization kinetics define directly the rate characteristics: the crystal nucleation rate, the crystal growth rate and the so-called kinetic rate factor known also as the attachment rate (of particles to the surface of a crystalline nucleus). We show that the kinetic rate factor as function of the reduced temperature follows a unified scaled power law. This scenario is confirmed by our simulation results for model atomistic systems (crystallizing volumetric liquids and liquid thin film) and by available experimental data for crystallizing polymers. We find that the exponen…
