We consider (n+1)--dimensional, stationary, asymptotically flat, or Kaluza-Klein asymptotically flat black holes, with an abelian $s$--dimensional subgroup of the isometry group satisfying an orthogonal integrability condition. Under suitable regularity conditions we prove that the area of the group orbits is positive on the domain of outer communications, vanishing only on its boundary and on the "symmetry axis". We further show that the orbits of the connected component of the isometry group are timelike throughout the domain of outer communications. Those results provide a starting point for the classification of such black holes. Finally, we show non-existence of zeros of static Killing vectors on degenerate Killing horizons, as needed for the generalisation of the static no-hair theorem to higher dimensions.
We show that the extreme six-dimensional black string admits a conformal isometry under inversion. Duality relations between null geodesics of various brane geometries are demonstrated, some of which have a geometrical origin through an optical metric.
The classes of electrovacuum Einstein - Maxwell fields (with a cosmological constant), which metrics admit an Abelian two-dimensional isometry group $\mathcal{G}_2$ with non-null orbits and electromagnetic fields possess the same symmetry, are considered. For these fields we describe the structures of so called "nondynamical degrees of freedom" which presence as well as the presence of a cosmological constant change (in a strikingly similar ways) the dynamical equations and destroy their known integrable structures. Modifications of the known reduced forms of Einstein - Maxwell equations -- th…
We consider 5-dimensional gauged supergravity coupled to Abelian vector multiplets, and we look for supersymmetric solutions for which the 4-dimensional Kähler base space admits a holomorphic isometry. Taking advantage of this isometry, we are able to find several supersymmetric solutions for the ST$[2,n_v+1]$ special geometric model with arbitrarily many vector multiplets. Among these there are three families of solutions with $n_v+2$ independent parameters, which for one of the families can be seen to correspond to $n_v+1$ electric charges and one angular momentum. These solutions generalize…
A mechanism to construct asymptotically flat, isolated, stationary black hole (BH) spacetimes with no $\mathbb{Z}_2$ (No$\mathbb{Z}$) isometry is described. In particular, the horizon geometry of such No$\mathbb{Z}$ BHs does not have the usual north-south (reflection) symmetry. We discuss two explicit families of models wherein No$\mathbb{Z}$ BHs arise. In one of these families, we exhibit the intrinsic horizon geometry of an illustrative example by isometrically embedding it in Euclidean 3-space, resulting in an "egg-like" shaped horizon. This asymmetry leaves an imprint in the No$\mathbb{Z}$…
We present a conformal isometry for static extremal black hole solutions in all four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theories with electromagnetic duality groups `of type $E_7$'. This includes, but is not limited to, all supergravity theories with $\mathcal{N}>2$ supersymmetry and all $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity theories with symmetric scalar manifolds. The conformal isometry is valid for arbitrary electromagnetic charge configurations and relies crucially on the notion of Freudenthal duality.
Suppose a one-dimensional isometry group acts on a space, we can consider a submergion induced by the isometry, namely we obtain an orbit space by identification of points on the orbit of the group action. We study the causal structure of the orbit space for Anti-de Sitter space (AdS) explicitely. In the case of AdS$_3$, we found a variety of black hole structure, and in the case of AdS$_5$, we found a static four-dimensional black hole, and a spacetime which has two-dimensional black hole as a submanifold.
We consider $d\geqslant 4$ Einstein--(extended-)Yang-Mills theory, where the gauge sector is augmented by higher order terms. Linearizing the (extended) Yang-Mills equations on the background of the electric Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole, we show the existence of normalizable zero modes, dubbed non-Abelian magnetic stationary clouds. The non-linear realization of these clouds bifurcates the RN family into a branch of static, spherically symmetric, electrically charged and asymptotically flat black holes with non-Abelian hair. Generically, the hairy black holes are thermodynamically prefer…
We present $d+1-$dimensional pure magnetic Yang-Mills (YM) black strings (or $1-$branes) induced by the $d-$dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-Dilaton black holes. Born-Infeld version of the YM field makes our starting point which goes to the standard YM field through a limiting procedure. The lifting from black holes to black strings, (with less number of fields) is by adding an extra, compact coordinate. This amounts to the change of horizon topology from $S^{d-2}$ to a product structure. Our black string in $5-$dimensions is a rather special one, with uniform Hawking temperature and non-asympt…
We present new soliton and hairy black hole solutions of Einstein-non-Abelian-Proca theory in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space-time with gauge group ${\mathfrak {su}}(2)$. For static, spherically symmetric configurations, we show that the gauge field must be purely magnetic, and solve the resulting field equations numerically. The equilibrium gauge field is described by a single function $ω(r)$, which must have at least one zero. The solitons and hairy black holes share many properties with the corresponding solutions in asymptotically flat space-time. In particular, all the solutions we st…
Rapidly rotating Myers-Perry-AdS$_5$ (MPAdS$_5$) black holes are shown to be unstable against rotational superradiance of a Maxwell field. From the onset of the instability, time-periodic neutral black hole solutions equipped with a nontrivial electromagnetic wave are obtained, which we call {\it photonic black resonators}. In the horizonless limit, they reduce to geon solutions which may be called {\it photon stars}. Specifically, we introduce a cohomogeneity-1 ansatz for the metric and Maxwell field and construct such solutions with an $R\times SU(2)$ isometry group. We compute thermodynamic…
We construct a supersymmetric black ring solution of SU(2) N=1, d=5 Super-Einstein-Yang-Mills (SEYM) theory by adding a distorted BPST instanton to an Abelian black ring solution of the same theory. The change cannot be observed from spatial infinity: neither the mass, nor the angular momenta or the values of the scalars at infinity differ from those of the Abelian ring. The entropy is, however, sensitive to the presence of the non-Abelian instanton, and it is smaller than that of the Abelian ring, in analogy to what happens in the supersymmetric coloured black holes recently constructed in th…
