The pretzelosity distribution function $h_{1T}^\perp$ is studied in a covariant the quark-parton model which describes the structure of the nucleon in terms of 3D quark intrinsic motion. This relativistic model framework supports the relation between helicity, transversity and pretzelosity observed in other relativistic models {\sl without} assuming SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry. Numerical results and predictions for SIDIS experiments are presented.
The leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions h_{1L}^{\perp} and h_{1T}^\perp, which is sometimes called "pretzelosity," are studied. For h_{1L}^{\perp} we consider a "Wandzura-Wilczek-type" approximation, which follows from QCD equations of motion upon the neglect of pure twist-3 terms and allows to express it in terms of transversity. On the basis of available data from HERMES we test the practical usefulness of this approximation and discuss how it can be further tested by future CLAS and COMPASS data. We review the theoretical properties of retzelosity and o…
The leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distribution function h_1T^perp, which is sometimes called ``pretzelosity,'' is studied. We review the theoretical properties of this function, and present bag model predictions. We observe an interesting relation valid in a large class of relativistic models: The difference between helicity and transversity distributions, which is often said to be a 'measure of relativistic effects' in nucleon, is nothing but the pretzelosity distribution. Pretzelosity is chirally odd and can be accessed in combination with the Collins effect in semi-incl…
We calculate the pretzelosity distribution ($h_{1T}^{\perp}$), which is one of the eight leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs), in the light-cone formalism. We find that this quantity has a simple relation with the quark orbital angular momentum distribution, thus it may provide a new possibility to access the quark orbital angular momentum inside the nucleon. The pretzelosity distribution can manifest itself through the $\sin(3ϕ_h-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process. We calculate the $\sin(3ϕ_h-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry at HERMES, COMPAS…
We study the connection between the quark orbital angular momentum and the pretzelosity transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution function. We discuss the origin of this relation in quark models, identifying as key ingredient for its validity the assumption of spherical symmetry for the nucleon in its rest frame. Finally we show that the individual quark contributions to the orbital angular momentum obtained from this relation can not be interpreted as the intrinsic contributions, but include the contribution from the transverse centre of momentum which cancels out only in the total or…
We show that the polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process is ideal to probe the pretzelosity distribution ($h_{1T}^\perp$), which is one of the new transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions of the nucleon. We present predictions of the $\cos(2ϕ+ ϕ_a - ϕ_b)$ asymmetry in the transversely polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process at PAX kinematics and find that the results are significantly larger compared with those of the $\sin(3ϕ_h - ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process at HERMES, COMPASS, and JLab kinematics. We conclude that the $\cos(2ϕ+…
The leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) are studied in a light-cone description of the nucleon where the Fock expansion is truncated to consider only valence quarks. General analytic expressions are derived in terms of the six amplitudes needed to describe the three-quark sector of the nucleon light-cone wave function. Numerical calculations for the T-even TMDs are presented in a light-cone constituent quark model, and the role of the so-called pretzelosity is investigated to produce a nonspherical shape of the nucleon.
A qualitative QCD analysis and a quantitative model calculation are given to show that the constituent quark model remains a good approximation even with the nucleon spin structure revealed in polarized deep inelastic scattering taking into account.
We define a constituent quark within QCD. It is shown that the spin of such a quark and hence also the spin of the nucleon reduced due to $\bar{q}q$-pairs, in agreement with experiment. A solution to the spin problem is given.
The nucleon-nucleon problem is studied as a six-quark system in a nonrelativistic chiral constituent quark model where the Hamiltonian contains a linear confinement and a pseudoscalar meson (Goldstone boson) exchange interaction between the quarks. This hyperfine interaction has a long-range Yukawa-type part, depending on the mass of the exchanged meson and a short-range part, mainly responsible for the good description of the baryon spectra.
Results for all elastic electroweak nucleon form factors are presented for the chiral constituent quark model based on Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. The calculations are performed in a covariant framework using the point-form approach to relativistic quantum mechanics. The direct predictions of the model yield a remarkably consistent picture of the electroweak nucleon structure.
The main statement of the nucleon constituent quark model with a fixed number of particles as basic ansatz are considered in a framework of the single-time (quasipotential) approach to the bound state problem. The scaling law breacking for the proton form factor is investigated for Q^2 = 0 -- 2 Gev^2.
Instanton effects can give large contribution to strong interacting processes, especially at the energy scale where perturbative QCD is no longer valid. However instanton contribution to the gluon contribution in constituent quark and nucleon has never been calculated before. Based on both the constituent quark picture and the instanton model for QCD vacuum, we calculate the unpolarized and polarized gluon distributions in the constituent quark and in the nucleon for the first time. We find that the pion field plays an important role in producing both the unpolarized and the polarized gluon di…
The electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon have been calculated in a chiral constituent-quark model. The nucleon wave functions are obtained by solving a Schrödinger-type equation for a semi-relativistic Hamiltonian with an effective interaction derived from the exchange of mesons belonging to the pseudoscalar octet and singlet and a linear confinement potential. The charge-density current operator has been constructed consistently with the model Hamiltonian in order to preserve gauge invariance and to satisfy the continuity equation.
The spin properties and the flavor asymmetric sea of the nucleon can be well explained by assuming that each constituent quark is surrounded with about 30% probability by a quark-antiquark pair coupled to the pion quantum numbers. We show that about one quarter of these quark-antiquark pairs show up as the pion in $\p\to\nπ^+$ and $\p\to\pπ^0$ fluctuation in agreement with the observed value in the ($\e+\p\to\e+$ forward neutron+X) experiment.
The electromagnetic form factors are the most fundamental quantities to describe the internal structure of the nucleon and the shape of a spatially extended particle is determined by its intrinsic quadrupole moment which can be related to the charge radii. We have calculated the electromagnetic form factors, nucleon charge radii and the intrinsic quadrupole moment of the nucleon in the framework of chiral constituent quark model. The results obtained are comparable to the latest experimental studies and also show improvement over some theoretical interpretations.
This thesis constitute an investigation of finding out whether or not the Goldstone Boson Exchange (GBE) model can give rise to a short-range repulsion in the the nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction. We used two different approaches based on the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and taking into account Harvey's transformations. Next, we study the NN interaction in a dynamical way using the resonating group method (RGM). We present results for the s-wave phase shifts in the NN scattering. We also introduce some necessary extensions of the GBE model like the contribution of the sigma-meson exchange in…
The first moment of longitudinal and transverse spin densities of quarks in the nucleon are calculated in a light-front constituent quark model for the different cases of quark and nucleon polarization. Significant distortions are found for the transverse spin densities. In particular the Sivers function is predicted with opposite sign for up and down quarks and the Boer-Mulders function is predicted large and negative for both up and down quarks, in agreement with lattice calculations. Quite a different spin distribution is obtained for up and down quarks in the cases of quarks and proton tra…
A nonrelativistic decomposition for the quark energy by the ratio of the dispersion of quark momentum squared and the effective quark mass is investigated in the framework of the relativistic oscillator constituent quark model as bound systems of three valence quarks. It is shown that relativistic corrections are defined by dispersion of the squared absolute value of the quark momentum. The variations of the quark mass and oscillator parameter are studied in detail both in the spectrum and in the nucleon magnetic moments.
Using a simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons, we construct the polarized parton distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. We achieve good agreement with experiments in the unpolarized as well as in the polarized case, though a good description of the recent polarized neutron data requires the introduction of one more parameter. When our results are compared with similar calculations using non-composite constituent quarks, the accord with the experiments of the present…
We study the interactions of an elementary pion with a nucleon made of constituent quarks and show that the enforcement of chiral symmetry requires the use of a two-body operator, whose form does not depend on the choice of the pion-quark coupling. The coordinate space NN effective potential in the pion exchange channel is given as a sum of terms involving two gradients, that operate on both the usual Yukawa function and the confining potential. We also consider an application to the case of quarks bound by a harmonic potential and show that corrections due to the symmetry are important.
We investigate the structure of constituent quarks and study implications for quark distribution functions of hadrons. Constituent quarks are constructed by dressing bare quarks with Goldstone bosons using the chiral quark model. We calculate resulting corrections to the twist-2 structure functions $f_1(x)$, $g_1(x)$ and $h_1(x)$. The Goldstone boson fluctuations produce a flavor asymmetry of the quark distribution in the nucleon in agreement with experimental data. They also generate significant depolarization effects which reduce the fraction of the nucleon spin carried by quarks. Correction…
Generalized parton distributions (GPDs) are studied at the hadronic (nonperturbative) scale within different assumptions based on a relativistic constituent quark model. In particular, by means of a meson-cloud model we investigate the role of nonperturbative antiquark degrees of freedom and the valence quark contribution. A QCD evolution of the obtained GPDs is used to add perturbative effects and to investigate the GPDs' sensitivity to the nonperturbative ingredients of the calculation at larger (experimental) scale.
In the present work we study the effect of the scalar spin coupling of constituent quarks on the nucleon electroweak properties by introducing a valence light-front wave function with two momentum scales. By comparing the results obtained with the one scale and two scale wave function models, we have found that the last one has shown a reasonable description of the static observables and $μ_pG_{Ep}/G_{Mp}$ ratio in which the position of the zero appears around 10~[GeV/c]$^2$ or for higher squared momentum transfers. We have also shown results for the axial-vector coupling $g_{A}$ and the nucle…
We present results for the nucleon magnetic moments in the context of an extended chiral constituent quark model based on the mechanism of the Goldstone boson exchange, as suggested by the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry in QCD. The electromagnetic charge-current operator is consistently deduced from the model Hamiltonian, which includes all force components for the pseudoscalar, vector and scalar meson exchanges. Thus, the continuity equation is satisfied for each piece of the interaction, avoiding the introduction of any further parameter. A good agreement with experimental values is…
The electromagnetic form factors have attracted lot of theoretical and experimental attention recently as they encode extensive information on the internal structure of the hadron. An understanding of the form factors is necessary to describe the strong interactions as they are sensitive to the pion cloud and provide a test for the QCD inspired effective field theories based on the chiral symmetry. In view of the very exciting recent developments in the field, we propose to apply the techniques of chiral constituent quark model to measure the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon. The res…
We calculate the partonic structure of constituent quark in the Next-to-Leading Order for the first time. The structure of any hadron can be obtained thereafter using a convolution method. Such a procedure is used to generate the structure function of proton and pion in NLO. It is shown that while the constituent quark structure is generated purely perturbatively and accounts to most part of the hadronic structure, there is a few percent contributions coming from the nonperturbative sector in the hadronic structure. This contribution plays the key role in explaining the SU(2) symmetry breaking…
We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction within a chiral constituent quark model which reproduces succesfully the baryon spectra. We calculate the 3S1 and 1S0 phase shifts by using the resonating group method. They clearly indicate the presence of a strong repulsive interaction at short distance, due to the spin-flavor symmetry of the quark-quark interaction and of the quark interchange between the two interacting nucleons. A sigma-exchange quark-quark interaction, providing a medium-range attraction, helps to get closer to the experimental phase shifts.
We study the generalized sum rules and polarizabilities of the nucleon in the framework of the hypercentral constituent quark model. We include in the calculation all the well known $3^*$ and $4^*$ resonances and consider all the generalized sum rules for which there are data available. To test the model dependence of the calculation, we compare our results to the results obtained in the harmonic oscillator CQM. We furthermore confront our results to the model-independent sum rules values and to the predictions of the phenomenological MAID model. The CQM calculations provide a good description…
Calculation of ratio of the nucleon axial and vector coupling constants $G_A/G_V$ in the framework of the quasipotential quark model has been performed. It was shown that in this model $G_A/G_V$ is defined by the ratio of the corresponding quark axial and and vector coupling constants $g_A/g_V$ and by the dimensionless parameter describing the relativistic relative quark motion and vanishing in the nonrelativistic limit. This relativistic parameter also defines nucleon magnetic moments. Thus we obtain relations independent of the form of the wave function: $G_A/G_V=(g_A/g_V)5(μ^p-1)/6$, $μ^p=(…
For the first time, a phenomenological analysis of the experimental electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon, both in the timelike and spacelike regions, is performed by taking into account the effects of nonvalence components in the nucleon state, within a light-front framework. Our model, based on suitable Ansatzes for the nucleon Bethe-Salpeter amplitude and a microscopic version of the well-known Vector Meson Dominance model, has only four free parameters (determined by the spacelike data with $χ^2/datum \sim 1.7$), and yields a nice description of the experimental electromagnetic form …
Results for the proton and neutron electric and magnetic form factors as well as the nucleon axial form factor are presented for constituent quark models, based on either one-gluon-exchange and Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. The calculations are performed in a covariant framework using the point-form approach to relativistic quantum mechanics. The only input to the calculations is the nucleon wave function of the corresponding constituent quark model. A comparison is given to results of the instanton-induced constituent quark model treated with the Bethe-Salpeter equation.
The recent unbiased measurements of the electric form factor of the neutron suggest that its shape may be interpreted as a smooth broad distribution with a bump at Q^2 \approx 0.3(GeV/c)^2 superimposed. As a consequence the corresponding charge distribution in the Breit frame shows a negative charge extending as far out as 2fm. It is natural to identify this charge with the pion cloud. This realisation is then used to reanalyse all old and new data of the electric and magnetic from factors of the proton and the neutron by a phenomenological fit and by a fit based on the constituent quark model…
We study the chiral-odd transversity spin-dependent quark distribution function $h_1 (x)$ of the nucleon in a constituent quark model. The twist-2 structure functions, $f_1(x)$, $g_1(x)$ and $h_1(x)$ are calculated within the diquark spectator approximation. Whereas an inequality $f_1(x) > h_1(x) > g_1(x)$ holds with the interaction between quark and diquark being scalar, the axial-vector effective quark-diquark interaction, which contributes to the $d$-quark distribution, does not lead to such a simple relation. We find that $h_1(x)$ for the $d$-quark becomes somewhat smaller than $g_1^d (x)$…
We calculate the electroweak properties of nucleons and hyperons in a relativistic constituent quark model using the light-front formalism. The parameters of the model, namely the constituent quark mass and the confinement scale, can be uniquely chosen for both the electromagnetic and weak experimental data. A consistent physical picture of the $qqq$ system appears in this work with a symmetric nucleon wave function and an asymmetric hyperon wave function. Only for the strangeness-changing weak decays do we need nontrivial form factors of the constituent quark.
Expressions for the nucleon wave functions in the covariant spectator theory (CST) are derived. The nucleon is described as a system with a off-mass-shell constituent quark, free to interact with an external probe, and two spectator constituent quarks on their mass shell. Integrating over the internal momentum of the on-mass-shell quark pair allows us to derive an effective nucleon wave function that can be written only in terms of the quark and diquark (quark-pair) variables. The derived nucleon wave function includes contributions from S, P and D-waves.
In $\XQM$, a quark can emit Goldstone bosons. The flavor symmetry breaking in the Goldstone boson emission process is used to intepret the nucleon flavor-spin structure. In this paper, we study the inner structure of constituent quarks implied in $\XQM$ caused by the Goldstone boson emission process in nucleon. From a simplified model Hamiltonian derived from $\XQM$, the intrinsic wave functions of constituent quarks are determined. Then the obtained transition probabilities of the emission of Goldstone boson from a quark can give a reasonable interpretation to the flavor symmetry breaking in …
We have evaluated nucleon and pion electromagnetic form factors using for the first time eigenfunctions of a light-front mass operator, reproducing a large set of energy levels, and constituent quark form factors in the one-body current. The comparison with the experimental data yields valuable information on the electromagnetic structure of light constituent quarks and on the different role played by their Dirac and Pauli form factors.
The electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon are calculated in an extended chiral constituent-quark model where the effective interaction is described by the exchange of pseudoscalar, vector, and scalar mesons. Two-body current-density operators, constructed consistently with the extended model Hamiltonian in order to preserve gauge invariance and current conservation, are found to give a significant contribution to the nucleon magnetic form factors and improve the estimates of the nucleon magnetic moments.
We propose a simple way to connect Gell-Mann constituent quark model and Feynman parton model for the nucleon. Thus, we can dynamically understand a large amount of data for high energy hadronic processes starting from the first QCD principle.
Nucleon and pion electromagnetic form factors are evaluated in the spacelike region within a light-front constituent quark model, where eigenfunctions of a mass operator, reproducing a large set of hadron energy levels, are adopted and quark form factors are considered in the one-body current. The hadron form factors are sharply affected by the high momentum tail generated in the wave function by the one-gluon-exchange interaction. Useful information on the electromagnetic structure of light constituent quarks can be obtained from the comparison with nucleon and pion experimental data.
We study the short-range nucleon-nucleon interaction in a chiral constituent quark model by diagonalizing a Hamiltonian comprising a linear confinement and a Goldstone boson exchange interaction between quarks. The six-quark harmonic oscillator basis contains up to two excitation quanta. We show that the highly dominant configuration is $\mid s^4p^2[42]_O [51]_{FS}>$ due to its specific flavour-spin symmetry. Using the Born-Oppenheimer approximation we find a strong effective repulsion at zero separation between nucleons in both $^3S_1$ and $^1S_0$ channels. The symmetry structure of the highl…
The Goldberger-Treiman relation $M=2π/\sqrt{3}f^{\rm cl}_π$ where $M$ is the constituent quark mass in the chiral limit (cl) and $f^{\rm cl}_π$ the pion decay constant in the chiral limit predicts constituent quark masses of $m_u=328.8\pm 1.1$ MeV and $m_d=332.3\pm 1.1$ MeV for the up and down quark, respectively, when $f^{\rm cl}_π=89.8\pm 0.3$ MeV is adopted. Treating the constituent quarks as bare Dirac particles the following zero order values $μ^{(0)}}_p=2.850\pm 0.009$ and $μ^{(0)}}_n= -1.889\pm 0.006$ are obtained for the proton and neutron magnetic moments, leading to deviations from t…
The exchange charge density operators that correspond to the Fermi-invariant decomposition of quark-quark interactions have been constructed. Their effect on the electromagnetic charge radii of the nucleons, in combination with that of the relativistic corrections to the single-quark operator, has been studied with a constituent quark model with a spin and flavor dependent hyperfine and a linear confining interaction, which gives a quantitative description of the spectra for the light and strange baryons. The model gives proton and neutron charge radii in approximate agreement with the empiric…
We discuss the implications of a "constituent quark" structure of the nucleon for the leading (1/Q^2-) power corrections to the spin structure functions. Our basic assumption is the presence of quark-gluon correlations in the nucleon wave function, whose size, rho ~ 0.3 fm, is small compared to the nucleon radius, R (two-scale picture). We argue that in this picture the isovector twist-4 matrix element in the proton has a sizable negative value, M_N^2 |f_2^{u - d}| ~ rho^{-2}, while the twist-3 matrix elements are small, M_N^2 d_2 ~ R^{-2}. These findings are in agreement with the result of a …
We present a model description of the nucleon valence structure function applicable over the entire region of the Bjorken variable x, and above moderate values of Q**2 (> 1 GeV**2). We stress the importance of describing the complete spectrum of intermediate states which are spectator to the deep-inelastic collision. At a scale of 1 GeV**2 the relevant degrees of freedom are constituent quarks and pions. The large-x region is then described in terms of scattering from constituent quarks in the nucleon, while the dressing of constituent quarks by pions plays an important role at intermediate x …
The axial form factor G_A of the nucleon is investigated for the Goldstone-boson-exchange constituent quark model using the point-form approach to relativistic quantum mechanics. The results, being covariant, show large contributions from relativistic boost effects. The predictions are obtained directly from the quark-model wave functions, without any further input such as vertex or constituent-quark form factors, and fall remarkably close to the available experimental data.
The electromagnetic form factors are the most fundamental quantities to describe the internal structure of the nucleon and the shape of a spatially extended particle is determined by its {\it intrinsic} quadrupole moment which is first order moment of the charge density operator. With some experimental indications of a deformed nucleon, we have calculated the {\it intrinsic} quadrupole moment of the octet and decuplet baryons in the framework of chiral constituent quark model \chiCQM which is quite successful in explaining some of the important baryon properties in the nonperturbative regime.
We have analysed the phenomenological dependence of the spin independent ($F_1^{p,n}$ and $F_2^{p,n}$) and the spin dependent ($g_1^{p,n}$) structure functions of the nucleon on the the Bjorken scaling variable $x$ using the unpolarized distribution functions of the quarks $q(x)$ and the polarized distribution functions of the quarks $Δq(x)$ respectively. The chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM), which is known to provide a satisfactory explanation of the proton spin crisis and related issues in the nonperturbative regime, has been used to compute explicitly the valence and sea quark flavor…
It is argued that the constituent quarks are expected to show a non-- trivial spin and flavor structure, due to the anomalous breaking of the chiral symmetry in the U(1) sector. CERN--TH.7079/93\\
The relativistic constituent quark model of low-energy quantum chromodynamics is found to yield a consistent picture of the electroweak structure of the nucleons. Notably, the electromagnetic and axial form factors of both the proton and the neutron can be described in close agreement with existing experimental data in the domain of low to moderate momentum transfers. For the theory it is mandatory to respect Poincare invariance and to fulfill additional conditions like charge normalization. Here we present covariant predictions of the one-gluon-exchange and Goldstone-boson-exchange constituen…
We establish a relationship between the scalar meson spectrum and the $U_A (1)$ symmetry-breaking 't Hooft interaction on one hand and the constituent quark's flavor-singlet axial coupling constant $g_{A, Q}^{(0)}$ on the other, using an effective chiral quark field theory. This analysis leads to the new sum rule $g_{A, Q}^{(0)}[m_{η'}^{2} + m_η^{2} - 2 m_{K}^{2} ]\simeq - m_{f_{0}^{'}}^{2} - m_{f_{0}}^{2} + 2 m_{K_{0}^{*}}^{2}$, where $η^{'}, η, K$ are the observed pseudoscalar mesons, $K_{0}^{*}$ is the strange scalar meson at 1430 MeV and $f_{0}, f_{0}^{'}$ are "the eighth and the ninth" sc…
We try to apply a constituent quark model (a variety chiral constituent quark model) and the resonating group approach for the multi-quark problems to compute the effective potential between the $N\bar{N}$ in $S$-wave (the quarks in the nucleons $N$ and $\bar{N}$, and the two nucleons relatively as well, are in $S$ wave) so as to see the possibility if there may be a tight bound state of six quarks as indicated by a strong enhancement at threshold of $p\bar{p}$ in $J/ψ$ and B decays. The effective potential which we obtain in terms of the model and approach shows if the experimental enhancemen…
We consider mechanism for hyperon polarization in inclusive production. The main role belongs to the orbital angular momentum and polarization of the strange quark-antiquark pairs in the internal structure of the constituent quarks. We consider a nucleon as a core consisting of the constituent quarks embedded into quark condensate. The nonperturbative hadron structure is based on the results of chiral quark models.
We examine isospin breaking in the nucleon wave functions due to the $u - d$ quark mass difference and the Coulomb interaction among the quarks, and their consequences on the nucleon electroweak form factors in a nonrelativistic constituent quark model. The mechanically induced isospin breaking in the nucleon wave functions and electroweak form factors are exactly evaluated in this model. We calculate the electromagnetically induced isospin admixtures by using first-order perturbation theory, including the lowest-lying resonance with nucleon quantum numbers but isospin 3/2. We find a small ($\…
Nucleon generalized polarizabilities are investigated within a relativistic framework, defining such quantities through a Lorentz covariant multipole expansion of the amplitude for virtual Compton scattering. The key physical ingredients in the calculation of the nucleon polarizabilities are the Lorentz invariant reduced matrix elements of the electromagnetic transition current, which can be evaluated from off-energy-shell helicity amplitudes. The evolution of the proton paramagnetic polarizability, $β_{para}(q)$, as a function of the virtual-photon three-momentum transfer $ q,$ is explicitly …
The nucleon is described as a bound state of a quark and an extended diquark. Hereby the notion ``diquark'' refers to the modelling of separable correlations in the two-quark Green's functions. Binding of quarks and diquarks takes place via an exchange interaction and is therefore related to the Pauli principle for three-quark states. Fully Poincare covariant nucleon amplitudes are calculated for free constituent propagators as well as for dressed propagators which parameterise confinement. The corresponding results for space-like form factors differ quantitatively but not qualitatively for va…
We demonstrate that a relativistic constituent-quark model can give nucleon form factors in agreement with data for both low and high momentum transfer. The relativistic features of the model and the specific form of the wave function are essential for the result.
Small momentum transfer elastic proton-proton cross-section at high energies is calculated assuming the nucleon composed of two constituents - a quark and a diquark. A comparison to data (described very well up to -t = 2 GeV^2/c) allows to determine some properties of the constituents. While quark turns out fairly small, the diquark appears to be rather large, comparable to the size of the proton.
