We consider an alternative mechanism for the production of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. It is basically due to vacuum pair creation (VPC) of vector bosons (W and Z) as a consequence of a rapid W and Z mass generation during the electroweak phase transition in the early Universe. The mechanism is as follows: after their pair crreation, the vector bosons may either annihilate directly into photons or decay into leptons and quarks which subsequently annihilate as lepton-antilepton and quark-antiquark pairs into photons. Preliminary estimates show that the number of CMB photons obtained this way can be sufficient to explain the presently observed CMB photon density. In this contribution we present an exactly soluble model for vacuum pair creation kinetics.
Extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics with new Abelian gauge groups allow for kinetic mixing between the new gauge bosons and the hypercharge gauge boson, resulting in mixing with the photon. In many models the mixing with the hypercharge gauge boson captures only part of the kinetic mixing term with the photon, since the new gauge bosons can also mix with the neutral component of the $SU(2)_L$ gauge bosons. We take these contributions into account and present a consistent description of kinetic mixing for general Abelian gauge groups both in the electroweak symmetric and the br…
The features of vacuum particle creation in an external classical field are studied for simplest external field models in $3 + 1$ dimensional QED. The investigation is based on a kinetic equation that is a nonperturbative consequence of the fundamental equations of motion of QED. The observed features of the evolution of the system apply on the qualitative level also for systems of other nature and therefore are rather general. Examples from cosmology and condensed matter physics illustrate this statement. The common basis for the description of these systems are kinetic equations for vacuum p…
A spatially uniform vector condensate can be formed during inflation if the vector boson is coupled to the inflaton through nontrivial kinetic function. The coherent oscillation of such a massive vector boson is a dark matter candidate. In this paper we consider the case where the vector boson energy density increases during inflation and show that the curvature/isocurvature perturbation gives stringent constraint on this scenario.
A spontaneously broken hidden U(1)$_h$ gauge symmetry can explain both the dark matter stability and the observed relic abundance. In this framework, the light gauge boson can mediate the strong dark matter self-interaction, which addresses astrophysical observations that are hard to explain in collisionless cold dark matter. Motivated by flavoured grand unified theories, we introduce right-handed neutrinos and a flavoured $B - L$ gauge symmetry for the third family U(1)$_{(B-L)_3}$. The unwanted relic of the U(1)$_h$ gauge boson decays into neutrinos via the kinetic mixing with the U(1)$_{(B …
We consider non-abelian kinetic mixing between the Standard Model SU(2$)_L$ and a dark sector U(1$)^\prime$ gauge group associated with the presence of a scalar SU(2$)_L$ triplet. The magnitude of the resulting dark photon coupling $ε$ is determined by the ratio of the triplet vacuum expectation value, constrained to by $\lsim 4$ GeV by electroweak precision tests, to the scale $Λ$ of the effective theory. The corresponding effective operator Wilson coefficient can be $\mathcal{O}(1)$ while accommodating null results for dark photon searches, allowing for a distinctive LHC dark photon phenomen…
A new $U(1)_X$ gauge boson $X$ primarily interacting with a dark sector can have renormalizable kinetic mixing with the standard model (SM) $U(1)_Y$ gauge boson $Y$. This mixing besides introduces interactions of dark photon and dark sector with SM particles, it also modifies interactions among SM particles. The modified interactions can be casted into the oblique $S$, $T$ and $U$ parameters. We find that with the dark photon mass larger than the $Z$ boson mass, the kinetic mixing effects can reduce the tension of the W mass excess problem reported recently by CDF from $7σ$ deviation to within…
The hypothetical dark photon portal connecting the visible and dark sectors of the Universe has received considerable attention in recent years, with a focus on CP-conserving kinetic mixing between the Standard Model (SM) hypercharge gauge boson and a new U(1)$_X$ gauge boson. In the effective field theory context, one may write down non-renormalizable CP-violating kinetic mixing interactions involving the $X$ and SU(2)$_L$ gauge bosons. We construct for the first time a renormalizable model for CP-violating kinetic mixing that induces CP-violating non-Abelian kinetic mixing at mass dimension …
We show that the mixing effect of the neutral gauge bosons in the 3-3-1-1 model comes from two sources. The first one is due to the 3-3-1-1 gauge symmetry breaking as usual, whereas the second one results from the kinetic mixing between the gauge bosons of U(1)_X and U(1)_N groups, which are used to determine the electric charge and baryon minus lepton numbers, respectively. Such mixings modify the ρ-parameter and the known couplings of Z with fermions. The constraints that arise from flavor-changing neutral currents due to the gauge boson mixings and non-universal fermion generations are also…
We estimate the production of $Z^a$ bosons via p-p collisions using previous work on $J/Ψ$, $Ψ(2S)$ production in p-p collisions, with the new aspect being the creation of $Z^a$ bosons via quark interactions, with $a$ the component of a $Z$ vector boson. We then estimate the production of $Z^a$ bosons via Pb-Pb collisions using modification factors from previous publications.
We study the possibilities on the search of the light and weakly interacting gauge boson in the gauged $L_μ- L_τ$ model. Introducing the kinetic mixing at the tree-level, the allowed parameter regions for the gauge coupling and kinetic mixing parameter are presented. Then, we analyze one photon plus missing event within the allowed region and show that search for the light gauge boson will be possible at Belle-II experiment. We also analyze neutrino trident production process in neutrino beam experiments.
A popular class of extensions of the Standard Model (SM) are models of a new Abelian gauge boson $X$, called $dark$ or $hidden\ photon$, that kinetically mixes with the SM photon. We revisit the matching procedure of kinetic mixing terms in the electroweak symmetric phase to the ones in the broken phase. Our central finding is that in order to obtain the correct matching prescription one has to take into account mixing of the hidden photon with the neutral component of the weak $SU(2)_L$ bosons. This mixing is generated by a dimension-six operator and, in theories where $SU(2)_L$ multiplets ar…
We apply a Boltzmann approach to the kinetic regime of a relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate of scalar bosons by decomposing the one-particle distribution function in a condensate part and a non-zero momentum part of excited modes, leading to a coupled set of evolution equations which are then solved efficiently with an adaptive higher order Runge-Kutta scheme. We compare our results to the partonic cascade Monte-Carlo simulation BAMPS for a critical but far from equilibrium case of massless bosons. Motivated by the color glass condensate initial conditions in QCD with a strongly overpopulat…
In this work we explore the effects of a weak magnetic field and a thermal bath on the decay process of a neutral scalar boson into two charged scalar bosons. Our findings indicate that magnetic field inhibits while temperature enhances the pair production. The employed formalism allows us to isolate the contribution of magnetic fields in vacuum, leading to a separate analysis of the effects of different ingredients. This is essential since the analytical computation of the decay width necessarily needs of some approximation and the results that can be found in the literature are not always co…
It is important to obtain (nearly) massless localized modes for the low-energy four-dimensional effective field theory in the brane-world scenario. We propose a mechanism for bosonic zero modes using the field-dependent kinetic function in the classical field theory set-up. As a particularly simple case, we consider a domain wall in five dimensions, and show that massless states for scalar (0-form), vector (1-form), and tensor (2-form) fields appear on a domain wall, which may be called topological because of robustness of their existence (insensitive to continuous deformations of parameters).…
We realize non-universal couplings between Kaluza-Klein (KK) gravitons and bulk Standard Model (SM) vectors in the Randall-Sundrum (RS) model by including both UV and IR brane-localised gauge kinetic terms. We find that such kinetic terms can reduce the couplings of KK gravitons to SM gauge bosons and also ensure the KK vector masses are consistent with electroweak precision constraints.
Particle-antiparticle pairs can be produced by background electric fields via the Schwinger mechanism provided they are unconfined. If, as in QED in (3+1)-$d$ these particles are massive, the particle production rate is exponentially suppressed below a threshold field strength. Above this threshold, the energy for pair creation must come from the electric field itself which ought to eventually relax to the threshold strength. Calculating this relaxation in a self-consistent manner, however, is difficult. Chu and Vachaspati addressed this problem in the context of capacitor discharge in massles…
