Using Serre's adelic interpretation of cohomology, we develop a `differential and integral calculus' on an algebraic curve X over an algebraically closed filed k of constants of characteristic zero, define algebraic analogs of additive multi-valued functions on X and prove corresponding generalized residue theorem. Using the representation theory of the global Heisenberg and lattice Lie algebras, we formulate quantum field theories of additive and charged bosons on an algebraic curve X. These theories are naturally connected with the algebraic de Rham theorem. We prove that an extension of global symmetries (Witten's additive Ward identities) from the k-vector space of rational functions on X to the vector space of additive multi-valued functions uniquely determines these quantum theories of additive and charged bosons.
For an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic 0, we give a cycle-theoretic description of the additive 4-term motivic exact sequence associated to the additive dilogarithm of J.-L. Cathelineau, that is the derivative of the Bloch-Wigner function, via the cubical additive higher Chow groups under one assumption. The 4-term functional equation of Cathelineau, an additive analogue of Abel's 5-term functional equation, is also discussed cycle-theoretically.
We continue the study of the Hrushovski-Kazhdan integration theory and consider exponential integrals. The Grothendieck ring is enlarged via a tautological additive character and hence can receive such integrals. We then define the Fourier transform in our integration theory and establish some fundamental properties of it. Thereafter a basic theory of distributions is also developed. We construct the Weil representations in the end as an application. The results are completely parallel to the classical ones.
Making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we prove that every additive invariant satisfies Galois descent. Examples include mixed complexes, Hochschild homology, cyclic homology, periodic cyclic homology, negative cyclic homology, connective algebraic K-theory, mod-l algebraic K-theory, nonconnective algebraic K-theory, homotopy K-theory, topological Hochschild homology, and topological cyclic homology.
We prove that the number of distinct homotopy types of limits of one-parameter semi-algebraic families of closed and bounded semi-algebraic sets is bounded singly exponentially in the additive complexity of any quantifier-free first order formula defining the family. As an important consequence, we derive that the number of distinct homotopy types of semi-algebraic subsets of $\mathbb{R}^k$ defined by a quantifier-free first order formula $Φ$, where the sum of the additive complexities of the polynomials appearing in $Φ$ is at most $a$, is bounded by $2^{(k+a)^{O(1)}}$. This proves a conjectur…
Motivated by the study of hyperkahler structures in moduli problems and hyperkahler implosion, we initiate the study of non-reductive hyperkahler and algebraic symplectic quotients with an eye towards those naturally tied to projective geometry, like cotangent bundles of blow-ups of linear arrangements of projective space. In the absence of a Kempf-Ness theorem for non-reductive quotients, we focus on constructing algebraic symplectic analogues of additive quotients of affine spaces, and obtain hyperkahler structures on large open subsets of these analogues by comparison with reductive analogu…
Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and $\mathbb{G}_a$ be the additive group of $\mathbb{K}$. We say that an irreducible algebraic variety $X$ of dimension $n$ over the field $\mathbb{K}$ admits an additive action if there is a regular action of the group $\mathbb{G}_a^n = \mathbb{G}_a \times \ldots \times \mathbb{G}_a$ ($n$ times) on $X$ with an open orbit. In this paper we find all projective toric hypersurfaces admitting additive action.
We characterize rational actions of the additive group on algebraic varieties defined over a field of characteristic zero in terms of a suitable integrability property of their associated velocity vector fields. This extends the classical correspondence between regular actions of the additive group on affine algebraic varieties and the so-called locally nilpotent derivations of their coordinate rings. This leads in particular to a complete characterization of regular additive group actions on semi-affine varieties in terms of their associated vector fields. Among other applications, we review …
I. Panin proved in the nineties that the algebraic K-theory of twisted projective homogeneous varieties can be expressed in terms of central simple algebras. Later, Merkurjev and Panin described the algebraic K-theory of toric varieties as a direct summand of the algebraic K-theory of separable algebras. In this article, making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we extend Panin and Merkurjev-Panin computations from algebraic K-theory to every additive invariant. As a first application, we fully compute the cyclic homology (and all its variants) of twisted projective homogeneou…
We describe all operations from a theory A^* obtained from Algebraic Cobordism of M.Levine-F.Morel by change of coefficients to any oriented cohomology theory B^* (in the case of a field of characteristic zero). We prove that such an operation can be reconstructed out of it's action on the products of projective spaces. This reduces the construction of operations to algebra and extends the additive case done earlier, as well as the topological one obtained by T.Kashiwabara. The key new ingredients which permit us to treat the non-additive operations are: the use of "poly-operations" and the "D…
We establish basic properties of a sheaf of graded algebras canonically associated to every relative affine scheme $f : X \rightarrow S$ endowed with an action of the additive group scheme $\mathbb{G}_{ a,S}$ over a base scheme or algebraic space $S$, which we call the (relative) Rees algebra of the $\mathbb{G}_{ a,S}$-action. We illustrate these properties on several examples which played important roles in the development of the algebraic theory of locally nilpotent derivations and give some applications to the construction of families of affine threefolds with Ga-actions.
A 'prehomogeneous vector space' is a rational representation $ρ:G\to\mathrm{GL}(V)$ of a connected complex linear algebraic group $G$ that has a Zariski open orbit $Ω\subset V$. Mikio Sato showed that the hypersurface components of $D:=V\setminus Ω$ are related to the rational characters $H\to\mathrm{GL}(\mathbb{C})$ of $H$, an algebraic abelian quotient of $G$. Mimicking this work, we investigate the 'additive functions' of $H$, the homomorphisms $Φ:H\to (\mathbb{C},+)$. Each such $Φ$ is related to an 'additive relative invariant', a rational function $h$ on $V$ such that $h\circ ρ(g)-h=Φ(g)$…
The cancellation problem asks if two complex algebraic varieties X and Y of the same dimension such that X\times\mathbb{C} and Y\times\mathbb{C} are isomorphic are isomorphic. Iitaka and Fujita established that the answer is positive for a large class of varieties of any dimension. In 1989, Danielewski constructed a famous counter-example using smooth affine surfaces with additive group actions. His construction was further generalized by Fieseler and Wilkens to describe a larger class of affine surfaces. Here we construct higher dimensional analogues of these surfaces. We study algebraic acti…
By an additive action on an algebraic variety $X$ we mean a regular effective action $\mathbb{G}_a^n\times X\to X$ with an open orbit of the commutative unipotent group $\mathbb{G}_a^n$. In this paper, we give a classification of additive actions on complete toric surfaces.
By an additive action on an algebraic variety $X$ we mean a regular effective action $\mathbb{G}_a^n\times X\to X$ with an open orbit of the commutative unipotent group $\mathbb{G}_a^n$. In this paper, we give a uniqueness criterion for additive action on a complete toric variety.
We describe additive (unstable) operations from a theory A^* obtained from Algebraic Cobordism of M.Levine-F.Morel by change of coefficients to any oriented cohomology theory B^*. We prove that there is 1-to-1 correspondence between the set of operations, and the set of transformations: A^n((P^{\infty})^{\times r}) ---> B^m((P^{\infty})^{\times r}) satisfying certain simple properties. This provides an effective tool of constructing such operations. As an application, we prove that (unstable) additive operations in Algebraic Cobordism are in 1-to-1 correspondence with the L\otimes_Z Q-linear c…
Borel's construction of the regulator gives an injective map from the algebraic $K$-groups of a number field to its Deligne-Beilinson cohomology groups. This has many interesting arithmetic and geometric consequences. The formula for the regulator is expressed in terms of the classical polyogarithm functions. In this paper, we give a survey of the additive dilogarithm and the several different versions of the weight two regulator in the infinitesimal setting. We follow a historical approach which we hope will provide motivation for the definitions and the constructions.
Let $\mathcal{O}_K$ be a discrete valuation ring with fraction field $K$ of characteristic $0$ and algebraically closed residue field $k$ of characteristic $p > 0$. Let $A/K$ be an abelian variety of dimension $g$ with a $K$-rational point of order $p$. In this article, we are interested in the reduction properties that $A/K$ can have. After discussing the general case, we specialize to $g=1$, and we study the possible Kodaira types that can occur.
The usual language of algebraic geometry is not appropriate for Arithmetical geometry: addition is singular at the real prime. We developed two languages that overcome this problem: one replace rings by the collection of "vectors" or by bi-operads and another based on "matrices" or props. These are the two languages of [Har17], but we omit the involutions which brings considerable simplifications. Once one understands the delicate commutativity condition one can proceed following Grothendieck footsteps exactly. The square matrices, when viewed up to conjugation, give us new commutative rings w…
In the present paper we generalize the construction of the nil Hecke ring of Kostant-Kumar to the context of an arbitrary algebraic oriented cohomology theory of Levine-Morel and Panin-Smirnov, e.g. to Chow groups, Grothendieck's K_0, connective K-theory, elliptic cohomology, and algebraic cobordism. The resulting object, which we call a formal (affine) Demazure algebra, is parameterized by a one-dimensional commutative formal group law and has the following important property: specialization to the additive and multiplicative periodic formal group laws yields completions of the nil Hecke and …
Let K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, G_m=(K\{0},*) be its multiplicative group, and G_a=(K,+) be its additive group. Consider a commutative linear algebraic group G=G_m^r\times G_a. We study equivariant G-embeddings, i.e. normal G-varieties X containing G as an open orbit. We prove that X is a toric variety and all such actions of G on X correspond to Demazure roots of the fan of X. In these terms, the orbit structure of a G-variety X is described.
We show how to make the additive Chow groups of Bloch-Esnault, Ruelling and Park into a graded module for Bloch's higher Chow groups, in the case of a smooth projective variety over a field. This yields a a projective bundle formula as well as a blow-up formula for the additive Chow groups of a smooth projective variety. In case the base-field admits resolution of singularieties, these properties allow us to apply the technique of Guille'n and Navarro Aznar to define the additive Chow groups "with log poles at infinity" for an arbitrary finite-type k-scheme X. This theory has the usual propert…
We show that the additive higher Chow groups of regular schemes over a field induce a Zariski sheaf of pro-differential graded algebras, whose Milnor range is isomorphic to the Zariski sheaf of big de Rham-Witt complexes. This provides an explicit cycle-theoretic description of the big de Rham-Witt sheaves. Several applications are derived.
