The theoretical basis for a candidate variational principle for the information bottleneck (IB) method is formulated within the ambit of the generalized nonadditive statistics of Tsallis. Given a nonadditivity parameter $ q $, the role of the \textit{additive duality} of nonadditive statistics ($ q^*=2-q $) in relating Tsallis entropies for ranges of the nonadditivity parameter $ q < 1 $ and $ q > 1 $ is described. Defining $ X $, $ \tilde X $, and $ Y $ to be the source alphabet, the compressed reproduction alphabet, and, the \textit{relevance variable} respectively, it is demonstrated that minimization of a generalized IB (gIB) Lagrangian defined in terms of the nonadditivity parameter $ q^* $ self-consistently yields the \textit{nonadditive effective distortion measure} to be the \textit{$ q $-deformed} generalized Kullback-Leibler divergence: $ D_{K-L}^{q}[p(Y|X)||p(Y|\tilde X)] $. This result is achieved without enforcing any \textit{a-priori} assumptions. Next, it is proven that the $q^*-deformed $ nonadditive free energy of the system is non-negative and convex. Finally, the update equations for the gIB method are derived. These results generalize critical features of the IB method to the case of Tsallis statistics.
A principled framework to generalize variational perturbation approximations (VPA's) formulated within the ambit of the nonadditive statistics of Tsallis statistics, is introduced. This is accomplished by operating on the terms constituting the perturbation expansion of the generalized free energy (GFE) with a variational procedure formulated using \emph{q-deformed calculus}. A candidate \textit{q-deformed} generalized VPA (GVPA) is derived with the aid of the Hellmann-Feynman theorem. The generalized Bogoliubov inequality for the approximate GFE are derived for the case of canonical probabili…
More general canonical ensemble which gives rise the generalized statistics or $q$-deformed statistics can represent the realistic scenario than the ideal one, with proper parameter sets involved. We study the Planck's law of blackbody radiation, Wein's and Rayleigh-Jeans radiation formulae from the point of view of $q$-deformed statistics. We find that the blackbody energy spectrum curve for a given temperature $T$ corresponding to different $q$ values differs from each other: the location of the peak(i.e. $ν_m$) of the energy distribution $u_ν$ (corresponding to different $q$ ) shifted towar…
We present a formulation of the deformed oscillator algebra which leads to intermediate statistics as a continuous interpolation between the Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics. It is deduced that a generalized permutation or exchange symmetry leads to the introduction of the basic number and it is then established that this in turn leads to the deformed algebra of oscillators. We obtain the mean occupation number describing the particles obeying intermediate statistics which thus establishes the interpolating statistics and describe boson like and fermion like particles obeying intermedi…

A generalized-statistics variational principle for source separation is formulated by recourse to Tsallis' entropy subjected to the additive duality and employing constraints described by normal averages. The variational principle is amalgamated with Hopfield-like learning rules resulting in an unsupervised learning model. The update rules are formulated with the aid of q-deformed calculus. Numerical examples exemplify the efficacy of this model.
We study, using information quantifiers, the dynamics generated by a special Hamiltonian that gives a detailed account of the interaction between a classical and a quantum system. The associated, very rich dynamics displays periodicity, quasi-periodicity, not-boundedness, and chaotic regimes. Chaoticity, together with complex behavior, emerge in the proximity of an unstable entirely quantum instance. Our goal is to compare the statistical description provided by Tsallis quantifiers vis a vis that obtained with Shannon's entropy and Jensen's complexity.
We derive the Gross Pitaevskii equation (GPE) for condensate of bosons obeying deformed statistics under external potential and inter-particle interaction. First, we obtain the well-known Schrodinger equation. Using a suitable Hamiltonian for condensate phase and minimizing the free energy of the system, we find out the $q$- deformed GPE. Thus, at very low temperature, where the dynamics of excited-occupation level can be neglected, the dynamics of a deformed statistics system can be described by the GPE, similar to the Bose-Einstein condensate.
In recent decades, there have been increasing interests in quantum statistics beyond the standard Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics, such as the fractional statistics, quon statistics, anyon statistics and quantum groups, since they can provide some new insights into the cosmology, nuclear physics and condensed matter. In this paper, we study the many-particle system formed by the $q$-deformed fermions ($q$-fermion), which is realized by deforming the quantum algebra of the anticommutation relations. We investigate from a standard perspective of the finite temperature field theory and t…
During the last three decades, non-standard statistics for indistinguishable quantum particles has attracted broad attentions and research interests from many institutions. Among these new types of statistics, the q-deformed Bose and Fermi statistics, originated from the study of quantum algebra, are being applied in more and more physical systems. In this paper, we construct a q-deformed generalization of the BCS-Leggett theory for ultracold Fermi gases based on our previously constructed q-deformed BCS theory. Some interesting features of this q-deformed interacting quantum gas are obtained …
An outstanding idea originally introduced by Greenberg is to investigate whether there is equivalence between intermediate statistics, which may be different from anyonic statistics, and q-deformed particle algebra. Also, a model to be studied for addressing such an idea could possibly provide us some new consequences about the interactions of particles as well as their internal structures. Motivated mainly by this idea, in this work, we consider a q-deformed Fermi gas model whose statistical properties enable effectively us to study interpolating statistics. Starting with a generalized Fermi-…
It was found in [Europhysics Letters {\bf 104}, (2013), 60003] that classical Tsallis theory exhibits poles in the partition function ${\cal Z}$ and the mean energy $<{\cal U}>$. These occur at a countably set of the q-line. We give here, via a simple procedure, a mathematical account of them. Further, by focusing attention upon the pole-physics, we encounter interesting effects. In particular, for the specific heat, we uncover hidden gravitational effects.
The generalized Kullback-Leibler divergence (K-Ld) in Tsallis statistics [constrained by the additive duality of generalized statistics (dual generalized K-Ld)] is here reconciled with the theory of Bregman divergences for expectations defined by normal averages, within a measure-theoretic framework. Specifically, it is demonstrated that the dual generalized K-Ld is a scaled Bregman divergence. The Pythagorean theorem is derived from the minimum discrimination information-principle using the dual generalized K-Ld as the measure of uncertainty, with constraints defined by normal averages. The m…
Over the last two decades, it has been argued that the Lorentz transformation mechanism, which imposes the generalization of Newton's classical mechanics into Einstein's special relativity, implies a generalization, or deformation, of the ordinary statistical mechanics. The exponential function, which defines the Boltzmann's factor, emerges properly deformed within this formalism. Starting from this, so-called $κ$-deformed exponential function, we introduce new classes of statistical distributions emerging as the $κ$-deformed version of already known distribution as the Generalized Gamma, Weib…
We study spectral behavior of sparsely connected random networks under the random matrix framework. Sub-networks without any connection among them form a network having perfect community structure. As connections among the sub-networks are introduced, the spacing distribution shows a transition from the Poisson statistics to the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble statistics of random matrix theory. The eigenvalue density distribution shows a transition to the Wigner's semicircular behavior for a completely deformed network. The range for which spectral rigidity, measured by the Dyson-Mehta $Δ_3$ sta…
By means of a finite elements technique we solve numerically the dynamics of an amorphous solid under deformation in the quasistatic driving limit. We study the noise statistics of the stress-strain signal in the steady state plastic flow, focusing on systems with low internal dissipation. We analyze the distributions of avalanche sizes and durations and the density of shear transformations when varying the damping strength. In contrast to avalanches in the overdamped case, dominated by the yielding point universal exponents, inertial avalanches are controlled by a non-universal damping depend…
We present a possible extension of the random-matrix theory, which is widely used to describe spectral fluctuations of chaotic systems. By considering the Kaniadakis non-Gaussian statistics, characterized by the index κ (Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy is recovered in the limit κ\rightarrow0), we propose the non-Gaussian deformations (κ \neq 0) of the conventional orthogonal and unitary ensembles of random matrices. The joint eigenvalue distributions for the κ-deformed ensembles are derived by applying the principle maximum entropy to Kaniadakis entropy. The resulting distribution functions are base i…
We present a new formulation of Fourier transform in the picture of the $κ$-algebra derived in the framework of the $κ$-generalized statistical mechanics. The $κ$-Fourier transform is obtained from a $κ$-Fourier series recently introduced by us [2013 Entropy {\bf15} 624]. The kernel of this transform, that reduces to the usual exponential phase in the $κ\to0$ limit, is composed by a $κ$-deformed phase and a damping factor that gives a wavelet-like behavior. We show that the $κ$-Fourier transform is isomorph to the standard Fourier transform through a changing of time and frequency variables. N…
The $q$-deformed statistics for fermions arising within the non-extensive thermostatistical formalism has been applied to the study of various quantum many-body systems recently. The aim of the present note is to point out some subtle difficulties presented by this approach in connection with the problem of thermodynamic consistency. Different possible ways to apply the $q$-deformed quantum distributions in a thermodynamically consistent way are considered.
The recent generalizations of Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics mathematically relies on the deformed logarithmic and exponential functions defined through some deformation parameters. In the present work, we investigate whether a deformed logarithmic/exponential map is a bijection from $\mathbb{R}^+/\mathbb{R}$ (set of positive real numbers/all real numbers) to $\mathbb{R}/\mathbb{R}^+$, as their undeformed counterparts. We show that their inverse map exists only in some subsets of the aforementioned (co)domains. Furthermore, we present conditions which a generalized deformed function has to satisfy…
A field theory is built for self-similar statistical systems with both generating functional being the Mellin transform of the Tsallis exponential and generator of the scale transformation that is reduced to the Jackson derivative. With such a choice, the role of a fluctuating order parameter is shown to play deformed logarithm of the amplitude of a hydrodynamic mode. Within the harmonic approach, deformed partition function and moments of the order parameter of lower powers are found. A set of equations for the generating functional is obtained to take into account constraints and symmetry of…
Composite bosons (or quasibosons), as recently proven, are realizable by deformed oscillators and due to that can be effectively treated as particles of nonstandard statistics (deformed bosons). This enables us to study quasiboson states and their inter-component entanglement aspects using the well developed formalism of deformed oscillators. We prove that the internal entanglement characteristics for single two-component quasiboson are determined completely by the parameter(s) of deformation. The bipartite entanglement characteristics are generalized and calculated for arbitrary multi-quasibo…
Rare event statistics for random walks on complex networks are investigated using the large deviations formalism. Within this formalism, rare events are realized as typical events in a suitably deformed path-ensemble, and their statistics can be studied in terms of spectral properties of a deformed Markov transition matrix. We observe two different types of phase transition in such systems: (i) rare events which are singled out for sufficiently large values of the deformation parameter may correspond to {\em localized\/} modes of the deformed transition matrix, (ii) "mode-switching transitions…
Based on Tsallis entropy and the corresponding deformed exponential function, generalized distribution functions for bosons and fermions have been used since a while. However, aiming at a non-extensive quantum statistics further requirements arise from the symmetric handling of particles and holes (excitations above and below the Fermi level). Naive replacements of the exponential function or cut and paste solutions fail to satisfy this symmetry and to be smooth at the Fermi level at the same time. We solve this problem by a general ansatz dividing the deformed exponential to odd and even term…
The non-extensive canonical ensemble theory is reconsidered with the method of Lagrange multipliers by maximizing Tsallis entropy, with the constraint that the normalized term of Tsallis' $q-$average of physical quantities, the sum $\sum p_j^q$, is independent of the probability $p_i$ for Tsallis parameter $q$. The self-referential problem in the deduced probability and thermal quantities in non-extensive statistics is thus avoided, and thermodynamical relationships are obtained in a consistent and natural way. We also extend the study to the non-extensive grand canonical ensemble theory and o…
Realistic phenomena can be described more appropriately using generalized canonical ensemble, with proper parameter sets involved. We have generalized the Einstein's theory for specific heat of solid in Tsallis statistics, where the temperature fluctuation is introduced into the theory via the fluctuation parameter $q$. At low temperature the Einstein's curve of the specific heat in the nonextensive Tsallis scenario exactly lies on the experimental data points. Consequently this $q$-modified Einstein's curve is found to be overlapping with the one predicted by Debye. Considering only the tempe…
Over the recent decades, diverse formalisms have emerged that are adopted to approach complex systems. Amongst those, we may quote the q-calculus in Tsallis' version of Non-Extensive Statistics with its undeniable success whenever applied to a wide class of different systems; Kaniadakis' approach, based on the compatibility between relativity and thermodynamics; Fractional Calculus (FC), that deals with the dynamics of anomalous transport and other natural phenomena, and also some local versions of FC that claim to be able to study fractal and multifractal spaces and to describe dynamics in th…
