We study the transient statistical properties of short and long Josephson junctions under the influence of thermal and correlated fluctuations. In particular, we investigate the lifetime of the superconductive metastable state finding the presence of noise induced phenomena. For short Josephson junctions we investigate the lifetime as a function both of the frequency of the current driving signal and the noise intensity and we find how these noise-induced effects are modified by the presence of a correlated noise source. For long Josephson junctions we integrate numerically the sine-Gordon equation calculating the lifetime as a function of the length of the junction both for inhomogeneous and homogeneous bias current distributions. We obtain a nonmonotonic behavior of the lifetime as a function of the frequency of the current driving signal and the correlation time of the noise. Moreover we find two maxima in the nonmonotonic behaviour of the mean escape time as a function of the correlated noise intensity.
Measurements indicating that planar networks of superconductive islands connected by Josephson junctions display long range quantum coherence are reported. The networks consist of superconducting islands connected by Josephson junctions and have a tree-like topological structure containing no loops. Enhancements of superconductive gap over specific branches of the networks and sharp increases of pair currents are the main signatures of the coherent states and, in order to unambiguously attribute the observed effects to branches being embedded in the networks, comparisons with geometrically equ…
We report on phenomena observed in planar integrated networks obtained connecting superconducting island by Josephson tunnel junctions. These networks, identifiable as tree-like graphs, have branches consisting of series arrays of Josephson junctions which can be individually current biased and characterized. Both Josephson supercurrents and gap parameters of the arrays embedded in the graph structures display properties significantly different from those of reference arrays fabricated on the same chips and having identical geometrical shape. The temperature and magnetic field dependencies of …
We show that Infrared radiation impinging onto a 1-d array of grooves drilled in the superconductor electrode of a long overlap junction can improve matching between fluxon oscillations at THz frequencies and a spoof plasmon of comparable wavelength. This example proves that metamaterials can be very helpful in integrating superconductive and subwavelength optical circuits with optimized matching bridging the gap between infrared and microwave radiation.
Nickelate films have recently attracted broad attention due to the observation of superconductivity in the infinite layer phase of $Nd_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}NiO_2$ (obtained by reducing Sr doped $NdNiO_3$ films) and their similarity to the cuprates high temperature superconductors. Here we report on the observation of a new type of transport in oxygen poor $Nd_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}NiO_{3-δ}$ films. At high temperatures, variable range hopping is observed while at low temperatures a novel tunneling behavior is found where Josephson-like tunneling junction characteristic with serial resistance is revealed. We at…
Gate-tunable Josephson junctions embedded in a microwave environment provide a promising platform to in-situ engineer and optimize novel superconducting quantum circuits. The key quantity for the circuit design is the phase-dependent complex admittance of the junction, which can be probed by sensing an rf SQUID with a tank circuit. Here, we investigate a graphene-based Josephson junction as a prototype gate-tunable element enclosed in a SQUID loop that is inductively coupled to a superconducting resonator operating at 3 GHz. With a concise circuit model that describes the dispersive and dissip…
