We study the three-dimensional U(1) lattice gauge theory of a CP$^1$ spinon (Schwinger boson) field and a Higgs field. It is a bosonic $t$-$J$ model in slave-particle representation, describing the antiferromagnetic (AF) Heisenberg spin model with doped bosonic holes expressed by the Higgs field. The spinon coupling term of the action favors AF long-range order, whereas the holon hopping term in the ferromagnetic channel favors Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of holons. We investigate the phase structure by means of Monte-Carlo simulations and study an interplay of AF order and BEC of holes. We consider the two variations of the model; (i) the three-dimensional model at finite temperatures, and (ii) the two-dimensional model at vanishing temperature. In the model (i) we find that the AF order and BEC coexist at low temperatures and certain hole concentrations. In the model (ii), by varying the hole concentration and the stiffness of AF spin coupling, we find a phase diagram similar to the model (i). Implications of the results to systems of cold atoms and the fermionic $t$-$J$ model of strongly-correlated electrons are discussed.
We develop a partial charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory implemented the gauge invariant dressed holon and spinon. In this novel approach, the physical electron is decoupled as the gauge invariant dressed holon and spinon, with the dressed holon behaviors like a spinful fermion, and represents the charge degree of freedom together with the phase part of the spin degree of freedom, while the dressed spinon is a hard-core boson, and represents the amplitude part of the spin degree of freedom, then the electron single occupancy local constraint is satisfied. Within this approach, the charg…
Using a phenomenological model, we discuss the consequences of spinon-holon binding in the U(1) slave-boson approach to $t-J$ model. Within a small $x$ ($x=$ hole concentration) expansion, we show that spinon-holon binding produces a pseudo-gap normal state with a segmented Fermi surface and the superconducting state is formed by opening an "additional" d-wave gap on the segmented Fermi surface. The d-wave gap merge with the pseudo-gap smoothly as temperature $T\to0$. The quasi-particles in the superconducting state are coupled to external electromagnetic field with a coupling constant of orde…
The Gutzwiller projection is shown to induce nontrivial correlation between the spinon and the holon in the slave Boson theory of the $t-J$ model. We find this correlation is responsible some subtle differences between the slave Boson mean field theory and the Gutzwiller projected wave function(GWF), among which the particle-hole asymmetry in the quasiparticle weight calculated from the GWF is a particular example.
A partial charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory is developed to study the normal-state properties of the underdoped cuprates. In this approach, the physical electron is decoupled as a gauge invariant dressed holon and spinon, with the dressed holon behaving like a spinful fermion, and represents the charge degree of freedom together with the phase part of the spin degree of freedom, while the dressed spinon is a hard-core boson, and representing the amplitude part of the spin degree of freedom. The electron local constraint for single occupancy is satisfied. Within this approach, the char…
By deriving and studying the coordinate representation for the one-spinon one-holon wavefunction we show that spinons and holons in the supersymmetric $t - J$ model with $1/r^2$ interaction attract each other. The interaction causes a probability enhancement in the one-spinon one-holon wavefunction at short separation between the particles. We express the hole spectral function for a finite lattice in terms of the probability enhancement, given by the one-spinon one-holon wavefunction at zero separation. In the thermodynamic limit, the spinon-holon attraction turns into the square-root diverge…
We utilize the Hubbard model to demonstrate that doping of the antiferromagnetic parent compounds of cuprate superconductors stabilizes a spin liquid state. Superconductivity in such a state emerges due to the spin-orbit coupling between charge current and superfluidity of spinon condensate, resulting in a chiral relation between the order parameter phase gradient and supercurrent. We propose simple experimental tests for the presented mechanism.
We derive the coordinate representation of the one-spinon one-holon wavefunction for the supersymmetric $t-J$ model with $1/r^2$-interaction. This result allows us to show that spinon and holon attract each other at short distance. The attraction gets stronger as the size of the system is increased and, in the thermodynamic limit, it is responsible for the square root singularity in the hole spectral function.
The one-band Hubbard model on the pyrochlore lattice contains an extended quantum spin-liquid phase formed from the manifold of singlet dimer coverings. We demonstrate that the massive and deconfined spinon excitations of this system have fermionic statistics. Holonic quasiparticles introduced by doping are also fermions and we explain the origin of this counterintuitive result.
We propose that the normal-state transport in the cuprate superconductors can be understood in terms of a two-fluid model of spinons and holons. In our scenario, the resistivity is determined by the properties of the holons while magnetotransport involves the recombination of holons and spinons to form physical electrons. Our model implies that the Hall transport time is a measure of the electron lifetime, which is shorter than the longitudinal transport time. This agrees with our analysis of the normal-state data. We predict a strong increase in linewidth with increasing temperature in photoe…
We study the binding of a holon and a spinon in the one-dimensional anisotropic t-J model using a Bethe-Salpeter equation approach, exact diagonalization, and density matrix renormalization group methods on chains of up to 128 sites. We find that holon-spinon binding changes dramatically as a function of anisotropy parameter α=J_\perp/J_z: it evolves from an exactly deducible impurity-like result in the Ising limit to an exponentially shallow bound state near the isotropic case. A remarkable agreement between the theory and numerical results suggests that such a change is controlled by the cor…
Motivated by the recent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements on one-dimensional Mott insulators, SrCuO${}_{2}$ and Na${}_{0.96}$V${}_{2}$O${}_{5}$, we examine the single-particle spectral weight of the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model at half-filling. We are particularly interested in the temperature dependence of the spinon and holon excitations. For this reason, we have performed the dynamical density matrix renormalization group and determinantal quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) calculations for the single-particle spectral weight of the 1D Hubbard model. In the QMC dat…
Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the oxygen $K$-edge has recently accessed multi-spinon excitations in the one-dimensional antiferromagnet (1D-AFM) \sco, where four-spinon excitations are resolved separately from the two-spinon continuum. This technique, therefore, provides new opportunities to study fractionalized quasiparticle excitations in doped 1D-AFMs. To this end, we carried out exact diagonalization studies of the doped $t$-$J$ model and provided predictions for oxygen $K$-edge RIXS experiments on doped 1D-AFMs. We show that the RIXS spectra are rich, containing distinct t…
A universal high energy anomaly in the single particle spectral function is reported in three different families of high temperature superconductors by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. As we follow the dispersing peak of the spectral function from the Fermi energy to the valence band complex, we find dispersion anomalies marked by two distinctive high energy scales, E_1=~ 0.38 eV and E_2=~0.8 eV. E_1 marks the energy above which the dispersion splits into two branches. One is a continuation of the near parabolic dispersion, albeit with reduced spectral weight, and reaches the b…
In the first paper of this series it was found that the $η$-spin 1/2 holons, spin 1/2 spinons, and $c$ pseudoparticles whose occupancy configurations describe the energy eigenstates of the one-dimensional Hubbard model emerge from the electron - rotated-electron unitary transformation. In this second paper we discuss and clarify how the relation of the electrons to the above objects can be used in a program for evaluation of finite-energy few-electron spectral functions. As a first step, here we characterize the dominant holon and spinon microscopic physical processes that originate more than …
The competition between the staggered flux state, or the d-density wave state, and the d-wave pairing state is analyzed in two-dimensional t-J model based on the U(1) slave boson mean-field theory. Not only staggered flux of spinon but also staggered flux of holon are considered. In this formalism, the hopping order parameter of $physical$ electron is described by the product of hopping order parameters of spinon and holon. The staggered flux amplitude of electron is the difference of staggered flux amplitude of spinon and that of holon. In $π$-flux phase of spinon, staggered fluxes of spinon …
We consider a generalization of the one-dimensional t-J model with anisotropic spin-spin interactions. We show that the anisotropy leads to an effective attractive interaction between the spinon and holon excitations, resulting in a localized bound state. Detailed quantitative analytic predictions for the dependence of the binding energy on the anisotropy are presented, and verified by precise numerical simulations. The binding energy is found to interpolate smoothly between a finite value in the t-Jz limit and zero in the isotropic limit, going to zero exponentially in the vicinity of the lat…
We analyze the t-J model on a square lattice using bosonic spinons and fermionic holons for low density x of holes. Spinons are paired into singlets, which condense below a temperature T*. The condensate evolves out of the Mott phase - preserving its symmetry. For T > T* holons and spinons are confined (by gauge forces), so that there is no coherent charge propagation. Metallic conduction and d-wave superconductivity result from separate, sublattice-preserving, holon hopping processes which originate below T* from a coupling with the condensate. A simple effective Hamiltonian describing these …
The elementary excitations of strongly correlated one-dimensional electronic systems - spinons and holons - are discussed in an exact solution of the Haldane-Shastry and Kuramoto-Yokoyama model. We derive and exactly solve the equation of motion both for the two-spinon wavefunction and for the one-spinon, one-holon wavefunction. By solving the equations of motion we find the spinon-spinon and spinon-holon interaction to be a short-range attraction. The physical consequences of such an attraction on the spin-form factor and on the hole-spectral function are also worked out.
We develop variational matrix product state (MPS) methods with symmetries to determine dispersion relations of one dimensional quantum lattices as a function of momentum and preset quantum number. We test our methods on the XXZ spin chain, the Hubbard model and a non-integrable extended Hubbard model, and determine the excitation spectra with a precision similar to the one of the ground state. The formulation in terms of quantum numbers makes the topological nature of spinons and holons very explicit. In addition, the method also enables an easy and efficient direct calculation of the necessar…
One-dimensional electronic fluids are peculiar conducting systems, where the fundamental role of interactions leads to exotic, emergent phenomena, such as spin-charge (spinon-holon) separation. The distinct low-energy properties of these 1D metals are successfully described within the theory of linear Luttinger liquids, but the challenging task of describing their high-energy nonlinear properties has long remained elusive. Recently, novel theoretical approaches accounting for nonlinearity have been developed, yet the rich phenomenology that they predict remains barely explored experimentally. …
In the $t-J$ model, the electron fractionalization is unique due to the non-perturbative phase string effect. We formulated a lattice field theory taking this effect into full account. Basing on this field theory, we introduced a pair of Wilson loops which constitute a complete set of order parameters determining the phase diagram in the underdoped regime. We also established a general composition rule for electric transport expressing the electric conductivity in terms of the spinon and the holon conductivities. The general theory is applied to studies of the quantum phase diagram. We found t…
The Chern-Simons bosonization with U(1)xSU(2) gauge field is applied to 2-D t-J model in the limit t >> J, to study the normal state properties of underdoped cuprate superconductors. We prove the existence of an upper bound on the partition function for holons in a spinon background, and we find the optimal spinon configuration saturating the upper bound on average--a coexisting flux phase and s+id-like RVB state. After neglecting the feedback of holon fluctuations on the U(1) field B and spinon fluctuations on the SU(2) field V, the holon field is a fermion and the spinon field is a hard--cor…
We study the nature of the superconducting state, the origin of d-wave pairing, and elementary excitations of a resonating valence bond (RVB) superconductor. We show that the phase string formulation of the t-J model leads to confinement of bare spinon and holon excitations in the superconducting state, though the vacuum is described by the RVB state. Nodal quasiparticles are obtained as composite excitations of spinon and holon excitations. The d-wave pairing symmetry is shown to arise from short range antiferromagnetic correlations.
In this paper we describe the electrons of the 1D Hubbard model by a fluid of unpaired rotated electrons and a fluid of zero-spin rotated-electron pairs. The rotated electrons are related to the original electrons by a mere unitary transformation. For all finite values of energy and for the whole parameter space of the model this two-fluid picture leads to a description of the energy eigenstates in terms of occupancy configurations of $η$-spin 1/2 holons, spin 1/2 spinons, and $c$ pseudoparticles only. The electronic degrees of freedom couple to external charge (and spin) probes through the ho…
Using the t-J Hamiltonian of U(1) slave-boson symmetry, bose condensation is discussed by showing the occurrence of symmetry breaking in the hole doped high $T_c$ cuprates. The symmetry breaking is shown to take place with the d-wave hole pairing, but not with the s-wave hole pairing. Based on a derived supersymmetry Hamiltonian we find that there exists a possibility of supersymmetry conditions in association with the pairing order parameters of both spinon and holon.
A $d_{x^2-y^2}$-density wave (ddw) order of electron in two-dimensional t-J model is analyzed in saddle point level using the U(1) slave boson formalism. We considered not only the staggered flux (s-flux) order of spinon but also the s-flux order of holon. This analysis provides the relation between the s-flux order of spinon and the ddw order of electron. We discovered a new phase in the phase diagram. In this phase, there is a s-flux order of spinon, but no ddw order of electron. Our results are that 1) a region of electron ddw exists, 2) there is no coexistence of ddw and $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave …
We show how the electron gas methods of Luttinger, Ward and Nozières can be applied to the infinite U Anderson impurity model within a Schwinger boson treatment. Working to all orders in a 1/N expansion, we show how the Friedel Langreth relationship, the Yamada-Yosida-Yoshimori and the Shiba-Korringa relations can be derived, under the assumption that the spinon and holon fields are gapped. One of the remarkable features of this treatment, is that the Landau amplitudes depend on the exchange of low energy virtual spinons and holons. We end the paper with a discussion on the extension of our ap…
The theory of electron-phonon interaction in the presence of strong correlation has been investigated in the present work. Due to the so called spin-charge separation, it is argued that the electron-phonon interaction in the strongly interacting systems is fundamentally different from the weakly interacting counterparts. Both spinons and holons are shown to carry electric charge and couple to the electromagnetic field and consequently to phonons. A systematic approach to calculate the dynamical charge of spinons and holons is presented, followed by a discussion of implications of this model fo…
We study the effect of varying the boundary condition on the spectral function of a finite 1D Hubbard chain, which we compute using direct (Lanczos) diagonalization of the Hamiltonian. By direct comparison with the two-body response functions and with the exact solution of the Bethe Ansatz equations, we can identify both spinon and holon features in the spectra. At half-filling the spectra have the well-known structure of a low energy holon band and its shadow---which span the whole Brillouin zone---and a spinon band present for momenta less than the Fermi momentum. New features related to the…
Resorting to a recently developed theoretical device called dimensional regularization for quantum criticality with a Fermi surface, we examine a metal-insulator quantum phase transition from a Landau's Fermi-liquid state to a U(1) spin-liquid phase with a spinon Fermi surface in two dimensions. Unfortunately, we fail to approach the spin-liquid Mott quantum critical point from the U(1) spin-liquid state within the dimensional regularization technique. Self-interactions between charge fluctuations called holons are not screened, which shows a run-away renormalization group flow, interpreted as…
A mean-field treatment of the phase string effect in the $t-J$ model is presented. Such a theory is able to unite the antiferromagnetic (AF) phase at half-filling and metallic phase at finite doping within a single theoretical framework. We find that the low-temperature occurrence of the AF long range ordering (AFLRO) at half-filling and superconducting condensation in metallic phase are all due to Bose condensations of spinons and holons, respectively, on the top of a spin background described by bosonic resonating-valence-bond (RVB) pairing. The fact that both spinon and holon here are boson…
It is generally accepted that doped Mott insulators can be well characterized by the t-J model. In the t-J model, the electron fractionalization is dictated by the phase string effect. We found that in the underdoped regime, the antiferromagnetic and superconducting phases are dual: in the former, holons are confined while spinons are deconfined, and {\it vice versa} in the latter. These two phases are separated by a novel phase, the so-called Bose-insulating phase, where both holons and spinons are deconfined. A pair of Wilson loops was found to constitute a complete set of order parameters d…
Electrical and magnetic properties of underdoped cuprates in the spin gap phase, a precursor to high Tc superconducting state, is riddled with puzzles. We propose a novel reference state to study this phase, where each hole dopant adds one real holon and one real spinon, with Haldane exclusion statistics $g_{\rm h} =1$ and $g_{\rm s} = {1/2}$, to a fairly inert (pseudo gaped) spin liquid vacuum, resulting in a low density spin-charge liquid. Spins and charges interact and form a novel collective state, a \textit{3/2-Fermi liquid}. A holon pairs with a spinon; this hole like fermion composite c…
We use an exact holon and spinon Landau-liquid functional which describes the holon - spinon interactions at all scattering orders, to study correlation functions of integrable multicomponent many-particle problems showing both linear and non-linear energy bands. We consider specific cases when the dominant non-linear band terms are quadratic and apply our results to the evaluation of the 1D Hubbard model correlation functions beyond conformal-field theory.
Quasiparticle properties are explored in an effective theory of the $t-J$ model which includes two important components: spin-charge separation and unrenormalizable phase shift. We show that the phase shift effect indeed causes the system to be a non-Fermi liquid as conjectured by Anderson on a general ground. But this phase shift also drastically changes a conventional perception of quasiparticles in a spin-charge separation state: an injected hole will remain {\em stable} due to the confinement of spinon and holon by the phase shift field despite the background is a spinon-holon sea. True {\…
It is found that the finite-energy spectral properties of the one-dimensional Hubbard model are controlled by the scattering of charged $η$-spin-zero $2ν$-holon composite objects, spin-zero $2ν$-spinon composite objects, and charged $η$-spin-less and spin-less objects, rather than by the scattering of independent $η$-spin 1/2 holons and spin 1/2 spinons. Here $ν=1,2,...$. The corresponding $S$ matrix is calculated and its relation to the spectral properties is clarified.
In the description of spin-charge separation based on the phase string theory of the t-J model, spinon excitations are vortices in the superconducting state. Thermally excited spinons destroy phase coherence, leading to a new phase characterized by the presence of free spinon vortices at temperatures, T_c<T<T_v. The temperature scale T_v at which holon condensation occurs marks the onset of pairing amplitude, and is related to the spin pseudogap temperature T^*. The phase below T_v, called the spontaneous vortex phase, shows novel transport properties before phase coherence sets in at T_c. We …
The confinement of a spinon liberated by doping two-dimensional frustrated quantum antiferromagnets with a non-magnetic impurity or a mobile hole is investigated. For a static vacancy, an intermediate behavior between complete deconfinement (kagome) and strong confinement (checkerboard) is identified in the J_1{-}J_2{-}J_3 model on the square lattice, with the emergence of two length scales, a spinon confinement length larger than the magnetic correlation length. For mobile holes, this translates into an extended spinon-holon boundstate allowing one to bridge momentum (ARPES spectral function)…
Within a gauge approach to the t-J model, we propose a new, non-BCS mechanism of superconductivity for underdoped cuprates. The gluing force of the superconducting mechanism is an attraction between spin vortices on two different Néel sublattices, centered around the empty sites described in terms of fermionic holons. The spin fluctuations are described by bosonic spinons with a gap generated by the spin vortices. Due to the no-double occupation constraint, there is a gauge attraction between holon and spinon binding them into a physical hole. Through gauge interaction the spin vortex attracti…
We have been able to resolve two long-standing issues that are central to the theory of high Tc superconductivity: (1) How is the physics of the doped region connected to that of the Mott insulator? (2) What is the origin of the two-dimensionality of the normal state? Specifically, based on the t-J model, we derive a renormalized Hamiltonian to describe the properties of underdoped cuprates. The theory is constrained to agree with the behavior at half filling, which is well described by the bosonic RVB state of Arovas and Auerbach. Moving holes are assumed to destroy long-range magnetic order,…
The motion of a single hole in a Mott antiferromagnet is investigated based on the t-J model. An exact expression of the energy spectrum is obtained, in which the irreparable phase string effect [Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 5102 (1996)] is explicitly present. By identifying the phase string effect with spin backflow, we point out that spin-charge separation must exist in such a system: the doped hole has to decay into a neutral spinon and a spinless holon, together with the phase string. We show that while the spinon remains coherent, the holon motion is deterred by the phase string, resulting in its…
We study one dimensional {\it extended} Kondo lattice model, described by the $t-J$ Hamiltonian for conduction electrons away from half filling and the Heisenberg Hamiltonian for localized spins at half filling. Following Shankar,\cite{Shankar} we find an effective field theory for this model, where doped holes are represented by massless Dirac fermions (holons) and spin excitations are fractionalized into relativistic bosons (spinons). These holons and spinons interact via U(1) gauge fluctuations. Effects of Berry phase to the localized spins disappear due to the presence of Kondo couplings, …
Exotic elementary objects such as "holons" and "spinons", which are widely used in descriptions of correlated electrons in reduced spatial dimensions, were introduced from analysis of the excitation branches of one-dimensional (1D) models. The 1D Hubbard model with effective nearest-neighbor hopping integral t and on-site repulsion U is a prominent example. In the last twenty years a large number of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments as well as electron energy-loss spectroscopic studies and high-resolution resonant inelastic X-ray experiments on several quasi-1D metals and q…
In the context of the SU(2) slave boson theory we show that condensation of holons can result in the zero mode of a nodal spinon in a single instanton potential. Instanton contribution in the presence of the zero mode induces the 't Hooft effective interaction, here mass to the spinon. We find that the spinon mass is determined by the state of instantons in the presence of the zero mode. The mass corresponds to antiferromagnetic moment of the nodal spinon. Considering the state of instantons, we discuss the possibility of coexistence between antiferromagnetism and $d-wave$ superconductivity in…
We use an exact {\it holon} and {\it spinon} Landau-liquid functional which describes the holon - spinon interactions at all scattering orders, to study correlation functions of integrable multicomponent many-particle problems showing both linear and non-linear energy bands. Motivated by recent photoemission experiments, we consider specific cases when the dominant non-linear band terms are quadratic and apply our results to the evaluation of the half-filling 1D Hubbard model one-particle spectral functions beyond conformal-field theory.
We calculate the spectral function of a one-dimensional strongly interacting chain of fermions, where the response can be well understood in terms of spinon and holon excitations. Upon increasing the spin imbalance between the spin species, we observe the single-electron response of the fully polarised system to emanate from the holon peak while the spinon response vanishes. For experimental setups that probe one-dimensional properties, we propose this method as an additional generic tool to aid the identification of spectral structures, e.g. in ARPES measurements. We show that this applies ev…
The $U(1)\times SU(2)$ Chern-Simons gauge theory is applied to study the 2-D $t-J$ model describing the normal state of underdoped cuprate superconductors. The U(1) field produces a flux phase for holons converting them into Dirac-like fermions, while the SU(2) field, due to the coupling to holons gives rise to a gap for spinons. An effective low-energy action involving holons, spinons and a self-generated U(1) gauge field is derived. The Fermi surface and electron spectral function obtained are consistent with photoemission experiments. The theory predicts a minimal gap proportional to doping…
We revisit the problem of dynamical response in spin-charge separated one dimensional quantum fluids. In the framework of Luttinger liquid theory, the dynamical response is formulated in terms of noninteracting bosonic collective excitations carrying either charge or spin. We argue that, as a result of spectral nonlinearity, long-lived excitations are best understood in terms of generally strongly interacting fermionic holons and spinons. This has far reaching ramifications for the construction of mobile impurity models used to determine threshold singularities in response functions. We formul…
Within the t-J model, the mechanism of superconductivity in doped cuprates is studied based on the partial charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory. It is shown that dressed holons interact occurring directly through the kinetic energy by exchanging dressed spinon excitations, leading to a net attractive force between dressed holons, then the electron Cooper pairs originating from the dressed holon pairing state are due to the charge-spin recombination, and their condensation reveals the superconducting ground-state. The electron superconducting transition temperature is determined by the dr…
We propose a model for high-T$_{c}$ superconductors, valid for $0\leqδ\leqδ_{SC}$, that includes both the spin fluctuations of the Cu$^{++}$ magnetic ions and of the O$^{--}$ doped holes. Spin-charge separation is taken into account with the charge of the doped holes being associated to quantum skyrmion excitations (holons) of the Cu$^{++}$ spin background. The holon effective interaction potential is evaluated as a function of doping, indicating that Cooper pair formation is determined by the competition between the spin fluctuations of the Cu$^{++}$ background and of spins of the O$^{--}$ do…

We present a numerical study of competing orders in the 1D $t$-$J$ model with long-range RKKY-like staggered spin interactions. By circumventing the constraints imposed by Mermin-Wagner's theorem, this Hamiltonian can realize long-range Néel order at half-filling. We determine the full phase diagram as a function of the exchange and particle density using the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. We show that pairing is disfavored and the AFM insulator and metallic phases are separated by a broad regime with phase segregation, before spin-charge separation re-emerges at low densi…
We study the phase structure of a three dimensional Abelian Higgs model with singly- and doubly-charged scalar fields coupled to a compact Abelian gauge field. The model is pretending to describe systems of strongly correlated electrons such as high-Tc superconductivity in overdoped regime and exotic phases supporting excitations with fractionalized quantum numbers. We identify the Fermi liquid, the spin gap, the superconductor and the strange metallic phases in which densities and properties of holon and spinon vortices and monopoles are explored. The phase diagram in the 3D coupling space is…
In this paper we describe the pseudoparticles, holons, and spinons whose occupancy configurations describe the energy eigenstates of the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model in terms of rotated electrons. Rotated electrons are related to electrons by a mere unitary transformation such that rotated electron double occupation is a good quantum number. Moreover, we introduce the concepts of local pseudoparticle and effective pseudoparticle lattice. Our findings provide useful information about the relation of the exotic pseudoparticles, holons, and spinons that diagonalize the non-perturbative many…
We consider an integrable model describing an Anderson-like impurity coupled to an open $t$--$J$ chain. Both the hybridization (i.e. its coupling to bulk chain) and the local spectrum can be controlled without breaking the integrability of the model. As the hybridization is varied, holon and spinon bound states appear in the many body ground state. Based on the exact solution we study the state of the impurity and its contribution to thermodynamic quantities as a function of an applied magnetic field. Kondo behaviour in the magnetic response of the impurity can be observed provided that its pa…
We study the interplay of quantum impurity, and collective spinon and holon dynamics in Zn doped high-T$_c$ cuprates in the normal state. The two-dimensional t-t$^{\prime}$-J models with one and a small amount of Zn impurity are investigated within a numerical method based on the double-time Green function theory. We study the inhomogeneities of holon density and antiferromagnetic correlation background in cases with different Zn concentrations, and obtain that doped holes tend to assemble around the Zn impurity with their mobility being reduced. Therefore a bound state of holon is formed arou…
In the present paper, we study a system of doped antiferromagnet in three dimensions at finite temperatures by using the t-J model, a canonical model of strongly-correlated electrons. We employ the slave-fermion representation of electrons in which an electron is described as a composite of a charged spinless holon and a chargeless spinon. We introduce two kinds of U(1) gauge fields on links as auxiliary fields, one describing resonating valence bonds of antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbor spin pairs and the other for nearest-neighbor hopping amplitudes of holons and spinons in the ferromagneti…
