Models of warped extra dimensions with custodial symmetry usually predict the existence of a light Kaluza-Klein fermion arising as a partner of the right-handed top quark, sometimes called light custodians which we will denote $\tilde{b}_R$. The production of these particles at the LHC can give rise to multi-W events which could be observed in same-sign dilepton channels, but its mass reconstruction is challenging. In this letter we study the possibility of finding a signal for the pair production of this new particle at the LHC focusing on a rarer, but cleaner decay mode of a light custodian into a $Z$ boson and a $b$-quark. In this mode it would be possible to reconstruct the light custodian mass.
In addition to the dominant standard model QCD production processes, we include the contribution of a Kaluza-Klein gluon first mode. We find that the $\tilde{b}_R$ stands out from the background as a peak in the $b Z$ invariant mass. However, when taking into account only the electronic and muonic decay modes of the $Z$ boson and $b-$tagging efficiencies, the LHC will have access only to the very light range of masses, $m_{\tilde{b}} = {\cal O} (500)$ GeV.
The tau lepton can be more composite than naively expected in models of strong electroweak symmetry breaking with tri-bimaximal lepton mixing. New leptonic resonances required by custodial symmetry, the tau custodians, can then be the first signal of this lepton flavor realization. Tau custodians can be very light, decaying almost exclusively into taus. The LHC reach for these new leptons is up to masses of 240, 480 and 720 GeV for sqrt{s}=14 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 30, 300 and 3000 fb^{-1}, respectively. Our analysis can be extended to any pair produced particles decaying mostly i…
We present a class of composite Higgs models arising from a warped extra dimension that can satisfy all the electroweak precision tests in a significant portion of their parameter space. A custodial symmetry plays a crucial role in keeping the largest corrections to the electroweak observables below their experimental limits. In these models the heaviness of the top quark is not only essential to trigger the electroweak symmetry breaking, but it also implies that the lowest top resonance and its custodial partners, the custodians, are significantly lighter than the other resonances. These cust…
Composite Higgs models involving partial compositeness of Standard Model fermions typically require the introduction of fermionic partners which are relatively light in realistic scenarios. In this paper, we analyze the role of these light custodian fermions in the phenomenology of the composite Higgs models and show that they significantly modify couplings of the Higgs field. We focus on the coupling to gluons in particular, which is of central importance for Higgs production at the LHC. We show that this coupling can be increased as well as decreased depending on the SM fermion embedding in …
We study the $W^{'}$ phenomenology in composite Higgs/ warped extra dimensional models focusing on the effect of fermionic resonances at $\sim$1 TeV. After deriving the existing bounds from the current LHC-8 analyses, we highlight the most promising signatures for $W^{'}$ discovery at the 14 TeV LHC. We find in particular very promising the study of $W^{'}$ decay modes into vector-like top partners, specifically the decay into a doublet of custodian heavy fermions, $T_{5/3} T_{2/3}$, and the decay into a heavy fermion plus a Standard Model quark. We perform a detailed parton level analysis of …
Higgs boson production in association with a high pT photon at the CERN Large Hadron Collider is analyzed, in the framework of the MSSM model, for the heavier neutral Higgs bosons. The request of an additional photon in the exclusive Higgs boson final state selects b-quark pairs among the possible initial partonic states, since gluon-gluon initial states are not allowed by C-parity conservation. Hence, the measurement of cross sections for neutral Higgs boson plus photon production can provide a clean probe of the b-quark density in the proton as well as of the b-quark Yukawa coupling. The sup…
Double parton scattering, i.e. two parton hard scattering processes in the same hadron-hadron collision, may constitute an important background for Higgs and other new particle searches at the LHC. We point out that like-sign W pair production provides a relatively clean way of searching for, and calibrating, double parton scattering at the LHC.
In supersymmetric scenarios where the scalar tau lepton is stable or long-lived, a search for a decay mode chi0 --> stau + mu at the LHC has a good sensitivity to the flavor mixing in the scalar lepton sector. We demonstrate that the sensitivities to the mixing angle at the level of sin(theta)=0.15 are possible with an integrated luminosity of 100fb^{-1} if the total production cross section of supersymmetric particles is of the order of 1pb. The sensitivity to the mixing parameter can be better than the experimental bound from the tau --> mu + gamma decay depending on model parameters.
Mueller Navelet jets were proposed more than 25 years ago as a decisive test of BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders. We here present a complete next-to-leading BFKL study of the azimuthal decorrelation of these jets. This includes both next-to-leading corrections to the Green's function and next-to-leading corrections to the jet vertices. We compare our results with recent data taken at the LHC and results obtained in a fixed order next-to-leading-order (NLO) calculation.
A new Abelian gauge symmetry U(1)' is well motivated to extend the standard model or supersymmetric standard model. Leptonic Z' resonances are clean signals even at the hadron colliders. We discuss how 4-lepton and 6-lepton Z' resonances can help the search for Supersymmetry and Higgs, respectively, at the LHC.
The measurement of azimuthal correlations of Mueller-Navelet jets is generally considered as a decisive test to reveal the effect of BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders. The first experimental study of these correlations at the LHC has been recently performed by the CMS collaboration. We show that the ratios of cosine moments of the azimuthal distribution are successfully described within our next-to-leading logarithmic BFKL treatment. The whole set of CMS data for the azimuthal correlations can also be consistently described provided that one uses a larger renormalization/factorization scale th…
We study the potential of the exclusive $pp\to p\ell^-\ell^+p$ process to probe excited leptons at the LHC which is known to be one of the most clean channel at the hadron colliders. The sensitivity of the model parameters is obtained 95% confidence level by considering three forward detector acceptances; $0.0015< ξ< 0.5$, $0.0015< ξ<0.15$ and $0.1< ξ< 0.5$.
We propose a modified version of the TeV scale B-L extension of the standard model, where neutrino masses are generated through the inverse seesaw mechanism. We show that heavy neutrinos associated with this model can be accessible via clean signals at the LHC. The search for the extra gauge boson Z'_{B-L} through the decay into dileptons or two dileptons plus missing energy is studied. We also show that the B-L extra Higgs can be directly probed at the LHC via a clean dilepton and missing energy signal.
Leptogenic Supersymmetry is a scenario characterized by copious lepton production in cascade decays. Due to the high lepton multiplicity and the lack of significant missing energy, leptogenic supersymmetry provides very clean channels which can be probed already with the early LHC data. Furthermore, the Higgs may be discovered in the h->b bbar mode because the leptons accompanying Higgs production efficiently suppress the background.
The photon-induced processes at the $LHC$ provide clean experimental conditions due to absence of the proton remnants, which might produce complementary and interesting results for tests of the standard model and for searching of new physics. In the context of the littlest $Higgs$ model with T-parity, we consider the photon-induced production of the mirror quarks at the $LHC$. The cross sections for various production channels are calculated and a simply phenomenology analysis is performed by assuming leptonic decays.
The exclusive production pp->pXp is known to be one of the most clean channels at the LHC. We investigate the potential of processes pp -> p l-l+ p and pp-> p gamma gamma p to probe scalar and tensor unparticles by considering three different forward detector acceptances; 0.0015<xi<0.15, 0.0015<xi<0.5 and 0.1<xi<0.5. We obtain 95% confidence level sensitivity limits on the unparticle couplings for various integrated luminosities.
In this work we explore the sensitivity to the Higgs self-coupling $λ$ in the production of two Higgs bosons via vector boson scattering at the LHC. Although these production channels, concretely $W^+W^- \to HH$ and $ ZZ \to HH$, have lower rates than gluon-gluon fusion, they benefit from being tree level processes, being independent of top physics and having very distinctive kinematics that allow to obtain very clean experimental signatures. This makes them competitive channels concerning the sensitivity to the Higgs self-coupling. In order to give predictions for the sensitivity to this coup…

We calculate the transverse momentum distribution of low-mass Drell-Yan pairs in QCD perturbation theory with all-order resummation. We demonstrate that the transverse momentum distribution of low-mass Drell-Yan pairs is an advantageous source of constraints on the gluon distribution and its nuclear dependence. With the reduction in background, we argue that low-mass Drell-Yan pairs in the forward region provide a good and clean probe of small-x gluons at RHIC and LHC.
In this paper, we study central production, in the inclusive case, to look for graviton signals in large extra dimensional model using dilepton and diphoton channels. We carefully analyze signal and possible Standard Model background processes and study the feasibility of such new physics searches in a relatively clean environment as in central production where the proton fragments are mostly emitted in the forward direction, and there is a clear rapidity gap between them and the centrally produced system. Our analysis shows that the LHC with 14 TeV center of mass energy and 100 fb$^{-1}$ (300…
The two-photon exclusive production of charged supersymmetric pairs at the LHC has a clean and unique signature - two very forward scattered protons and two opposite charged leptons produced centraly. For low-mass SUSY scenarios, significant cross-sections are expected and background processes are well controlled. Measurement of the forward proton energies would allow for mass reconstruction of right-handed sleptons and the LSP with a few GeV resolution. Methods to reduce backgrounds at high luminosity resulting from accidental coincidences between events in the central and forward detectors a…
The LHC discovery potential of heavy top partners decaying into a top quark and a $Z$ boson is studied in the trilepton channel at 13 TeV in the single production mode. The clean multilepton final state allows to strongly reduce the background contaminations and to reconstruct the $T'$ mass. We show that a simple cut-and-count analysis probes the parameter space of a simplified model as efficiently as a dedicated multivariate analysis. The trilepton signature finally turns out to be able to probe $T'$ masses up to $2.0$ TeV, when mixing with first generation quarks is included. The reinterpret…
The LHC discovery potential of heavy top partners decaying into a top quark and a $Z$ boson is studied in the trilepton channel at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The clean multilepton final state allows to strongly reduce the background contaminations and to reconstruct the $T'$ mass. We show that a simple cut-and-count analysis probes the parameter space of a simplified model as efficiently as a dedicated multivariate analysis. The trilepton signature finally turns out to be as sensitive in the low $T'$ mass region as the complementary channel with a fully hadronic top quark, and more sensitive in the la…
We investigate the Standard Model (SM) extended with a colored charged scalar, leptoquark, having fractional electromagnetic charge $-1/3$. We mostly focus on the decays of the leptoquark into second and third generations via $c\,μ, t\, τ$ decay modes. We perform a PYTHIA-based simulation considering all the dominant SM backgrounds at the LHC with 14\,TeV center of mass energy. Limits have been calculated for the leptoquark mass that can be probed at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$. The leptoquark mass, reconstructed from its decay products into the third generation, ha…
We propose a new type of Z polarization asymmetry in bottom-Z production at LHC that should be realistically measurable and would provide the determination of the so-called $A_b$ parameter, whose available measured value still appears to be in disagreement with the Standard Model prediction. This polarization can be measured independently of a possible existence of Supersymmetry. If Supersymmetry is found, a second polarization, i.e. the top longitudinal polarization in top-charged Higgs production, would neatly identify the $\tan β$ parameter. In this case, the value of $A_b$ should be in agr…
The phenomenology of the low scale U(1)_{B-L} extension of the standard model and its implications at LHC is presented. In this model, an extra gauge boson corresponding to B-L gauge symmetry and an extra SM singlet scalar (heavy Higgs) are predicted. We show a detailed analysis of both heavy and light Higgses decay and production in addition to the possible decay channels of the new gauge boson. We find that the cross sections of the SM-like Higgs production are reduced by ~ 20%-30%, while its decay branching ratios remain intact. The extra Higgs has relatively small cross sections and the br…
Neutrino masses may be generated by the VEV of an $SU(2)_L$ Higgs triplet. We assume that the doubly charged component of such a triplet has a mass in the range of several 100 GeV, such that it is accessible at LHC. Its decay into like-sign leptons provides a clean experimental signature, which allows for a direct test of the neutrino mass matrix. By exploring the branching ratios of this decay into leptons of various flavours, we show that within this model the type of the neutrino mass spectrum (normal, inverted or quasi-degenerate) might actually be resolved at the LHC. Furthermore, we show…
We analyze the sensitivity of hadronic tau decays to non-standard interactions within the model-independent framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). Both exclusive and inclusive decays are studied, using the latest lattice data and QCD dispersion relations. We show that there are enough theoretically clean channels to disentangle all the effective couplings contributing to these decays, with the $τ\to ππν_τ$ channel representing an unexpected powerful New Physics probe. We find that the ratios of non-standard couplings to the Fermi constant are bound at the sub-percent l…
Naturalness arguments applied to simple supersymmetric (SUSY) theories require a set of light higgsinos with mass $\sim |μ|$ not too far from $m_h$. These models have an inverted electroweakino spectrum with $|μ| \ll M_2$ which leads to a rather clean, hadronically quiet, same-sign diboson (SSdB) signature at hadron colliders arising from neutral-plus-charged wino pair production. We improve and expand our earlier studies of this signature for discovering SUSY in natural SUSY models by (i) including backgrounds which were not previously considered and which turn out to be significant, (ii) dev…
The discovery potential of charged Higgs from pp->tH+- in the H+- -> tau nu decay channel is investigated in CMS and ATLAS. For m_H>m_t, the most relevant channels are H+- -> tb and H+- -> tau nu. Whereas the former has the largest branching ratio it suffers of large irreducible backgrounds, while the latter offers a very clean enviroment when appropriate cuts are used. Making use of the tau polarization effects, in the purely hadronic final states an almost background-free signal is selected. The expected discovery range is evaluated for CMS and ATLAS with 30 fb^-1 each in the low luminosity …
We study Higgs boson production via Double Pomeron Exchange allowing for the presence of Pomeron remnants. We estimate the number of events produced at the LHC collider, as a function of the Higgs boson mass and its decay channel. The model which successfully describes the high mass dijet spectrum observed at Tevatron (run I) is used to predict rates of events with tagged protons for the acceptance range of the CMS/Totem experiments. Sizeable cross-sections and encouraging event selection signals are found, demonstrating especially for smaller Higgs boson masses the importance to study the dif…
Current LHC searches for non-supersymmetric singly-charged scalars, based on Two-Higgs-Doublet models, in general focus the analysis on third-generation fermions in the final state. However, singly-charged scalars in alternative extensions of the scalar sector involve Yukawa couplings not proportional to the mass of the fermions. Assuming the scalar decays into electrons and muons, it can manifest cleaner experimental signatures. In this paper we suggest that a singly-charged scalar singlet, with electroweak production, can start to be probed in the near future with dedicated search strategies…
We investigate the potential of the HL-LHC for discovering new physics effects via the same-sign top pair signatures. We focus on the semi leptonic (electron and muon) decay of the top quarks and study the reach for a simplified model approach where top quark flavor changing could occur through a neutral scalar exchange. A relatively smaller background contribution and clean signature are the advantages of the leptonic decay mode of the same-sign $W$ bosons in the same-sign production processes of top quark pairs. Assuming the FCNC between top quark, up type quark and scalar boson from the new…
Leptonic signatures of Dark Matter (DM) are one of the cleanest ways to discover such a secluded form of matter at high energy colliders. We explore the full parameter space relevant to multi-lepton (2- and 3-lepton) signatures at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from representative minimal consistent models with scalar and fermion DM. In our analysis, we suggest a new parametrisation of the model parameter spaces in terms of the DM mass and mass differences between DM and its multiplet partners. This parametrisation allows us to explore properties of DM models in their whole parameter space. T…
We evaluate the discovery potential for the heavy Higgs bosons at the LHC energy upgrade with $\sqrt{s}=27$ TeV. We take degenerate mass spectrum and assume near the alignment limit in the Type-II Two Higgs Doublet Model for illustration. We explore the observability of the heavy neutral Higgs bosons by examining the leading decay channel $H^0/A^0\to τ^+τ^-$ and the clean signals from $H^0\to W^+W^-, ZZ$ via gluon-gluon fusion production. The associated production of a top quark and a charged Higgs boson via $gb\to t H^\pm$ is adopted to predict the discovery potential of heavy charged Higgses…
Radiatively-driven natural supersymmetry (RNS) potentially reconciles the Z and Higgs boson masses close to 100 GeV with gluinos and squarks lying beyond the TeV scale. Requiring no large cancellations at the electroweak scale in constructing M_Z=91.2 GeV while maintaining a light Higgs scalar with m_h 125 GeV implies a sparticle mass spectrum including light higgsinos with mass 100-300 GeV, electroweak gauginos in the 300-1200 GeV range, gluinos at 1-4 TeV and top/bottom squarks in the 1-4 TeV range (probably beyond LHC reach), while first/second generation matter scalars can exist in the 5-3…
Observing light-by-light scattering at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has received quite some attention and it is believed to be a clean and sensitive channel to possible new physics. In this paper, we study the diphoton production at the LHC via the process $\rm pp\rightarrow pγγp\rightarrow pγγp$ through graviton exchange in the Large Extra Dimension (LED) model. Typically, when we do the background analysis, we also study the Double Pomeron Exchange (DPE) of $γγ$ production. We compare its production in the quark-quark collision mode to the gluon-gluon collision mode and find that contribu…
The investigation of weak bosons $V$ ($V=\mathrm{W}^{\pm}$, $\mathrm{Z}$) produced with or without associated hard QCD jets will be of great phenomenological interest at the LHC. Owing to the large cross sections and the clean decay signatures of the vector bosons, weak-boson production can be used to monitor and calibrate the luminosity of the collider, to constrain the PDFs, or to calibrate the detector. Moreover, the $Z$+jet(s) final state constitutes an important background to a large variety of signatures of physics beyond the Standard Model. To match the excellent experimental accuracy t…
We present a benchmark in the parameter space of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) that provides for a dramatic multi-lepton signal and no jets containing 5 or more leptons resulting from the cascade decays of the third lightest neutralino, $χ^{0}_{3}$, and the lightest chargino, $χ^{\pm}_{1}$, via light charged sleptons. This is a very clean signal with almost no Standard Model (SM) background. In some cases, a total signal of $\ge 3 $leptons + 0 jets can be detected at the $5 σ$ level at the LHC running at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV with approximately 3 fb$^{-1}$ of data and wi…
We scan the parameter space of the NMSSM for the observability of a Higgs boson at the LHC with $300 {\rm fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity per detector, taking the present LEP constraints into account. We focus on the regions of parameter space for which none of the usually considered LHC detection modes are viable due to the fact that the only light non-singlet (and, therefore, potentially visible) Higgs boson, $h$, decays mainly to two CP-odd light Higgs bosons, $h\to a a$. We simulate the $WW\to h \to aa$ detection mode. We find that this signal may be detectable at the LHC as a signal/backg…
We study mono-Higgs signatures emerging in the $B-L$ supersymmetric standard model induced by new channels not present in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, i.e., via topologies in which the mediator is either a heavy $Z'$, with mass of ${\cal O}(2~{\rm TeV})$, or an intermediate $h'$ (the lightest CP-even Higgs state of $B-L$ origin), with mass of ${\cal O}(0.2~{\rm TeV})$. The mono-Higgs probe considered is the SM-like Higgs state recently discovered at the large hadron collider, so as to enforce its mass reconstruction for background reduction purposes. With this in mind, its two cl…
Heavy partners of the top quark are a common prediction of many models in which a new strongly-coupled sector is responsible for the breaking of the EW symmetry. In this paper we investigate their experimental signature at the LHC, focusing on the particularly clean channel of same-sign dileptons. We show that, thank to a strong interaction with the top quark which allows them to be singly produced at a sizable rate, the top partners will be discovered at the LHC if their mass is below 1.5 TeV, higher masses being possible in particularly favorable (but plausible) situations. Being the partner…
Vector-like top partner plays a central role in many new physics models which attempt to address the hierarchy problem. The top partner is conventionally assumed to decay to a quark and a SM boson. However, it is also possible that the top partner decays to a non-SM scalar and a top quark. Such an exotic decay channel can be the main decay channel of top partner, and thus provides new windows to search for top partner at the LHC. In this paper, with classical machine learning method Boosted Decision Tree (BDT), we perform a model independent study of the discovery potential of this new signatu…
In this paper, we explore the constraints that the LHC can place on a massive gauge boson $X$ that predominantly couples to the third generation of fermions. Such a gauge boson arises in scenarios where the $B-L$ of the third generation is gauged. We focus on the mass range $10 \leq m_X \lesssim 2\,m_W$, where current constraints are lacking, and develop a dedicated search strategy. For this mass range, we show that $b \bar b τ^+ τ^-$, where at least one of the $τ$s decay leptonically is the optimal channel to look for the $X$ at the LHC. The QCD production of $b$ quarks, combined with the cle…
There are lots of new physics models which predict an extra neutral gauge boson, referred as Z'-boson. In a certain class of these new physics models, the Z'-boson has flavor-dependent couplings with the fermions in the Standard Model (SM). Based on a simple model in which couplings of the SM fermions in the third generation with the Z'-boson are different from those of the corresponding fermions in the first two generations, we study the signatures of Z'-boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International Linear Collider (ILC). We show that at the LHC, the Z'-boson with mass around…
At this stage of the LHC program, the prospect for a new physics signal in the very rare K ---> pi nu nu bar decays may be dented, but remains well alive thanks to their intrinsic qualities. First, these decays are among the cleanest observables in the quark flavor sector. When combined with their terrible suppression in the Standard Model, they thus offer uniquely sensitive probes. Second, the LHC capabilities are not ideal for all kinds of new physics, even below the TeV scale. For example, rather elusive scenarios like natural-SUSY-like hierarchical spectrum, baryon number violation, or new…
The Gaugephobic Higgs model provides an interpolation between three different models of electroweak symmetry breaking: Higgsless models, Randall-Sundrum models, and the Standard Model. At parameter points between the extremes, Standard Model Higgs signals are present at reduced rates, and Higgsless Kaluza-Klein excitations are present with shifted masses and couplings, as well as signals from exotic quarks necessary to protect the Zbb coupling. Using a new implementation of the model in SHERPA, we show the LHC signals which differentiate the generic Gaugephobic Higgs model from its limiting ca…
Topological quantum interactions, namely Chern-Simons terms and global Wess-Zumino terms, arise naturally in theories with extra dimensions of space compactified on orbifolds. If the extra dimensions become manifest at the TeV scale, experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) could observe signatures of topological interactions. Decays of Kaluza-Klein excitations of neutral electroweak gauge bosons into pairs of neutral Standard Model gauge bosons, ZZ and Z+photon, would provide a clean signature, since such decays do not occur at tree level. In this paper, we investigate the prospects for…
We explore the possibility of observing Odderon exchange in proton--ion collisions at the LHC, via the ultraperipheral photoproduction of C-even mesons. As well as the signal, we consider in detail the principle backgrounds, due to QCD--initiated production (i.e. double Pomeron exchange) and $γγ$ fusion. We find that while the photon--initiated background is dominant at very small momentum transfer, this can be effectively removed by placing a reasonable cut on the transverse momentum of the produced meson. In the case of QCD--initiated production, we show this is in general strongly suppresse…
A light Higgs boson with substantial branching ratio into invisible channels can occur in a variety of models with: light neutralinos, spontaneously broken lepton number, radiatively generated neutrino masses, additional singlet scalar(s) and/or right handed neutrinos in the extra dimensions of TeV scale gravity. We study the observability of the WH and ZH modes at LHC with H decaying invisibly, by carrying out a detailed simulation with two event generators HERWIG and PYTHIA and realistic detector simulations (GETJET and CMSJET). We find that the signal with `single lepton plus missing $E_T$'…
Attention is drawn to the several 2-3 $σ$ "anomalies" in B, $B_s$ mixings and decays involving CP-observables. Perhaps the most interesting theoretical scenario that could cause such effects is based on warped extra-dimensional models and indeed some of the effects were predicted there. However, a rather simple explanation is that based on a fourth family of quarks with masses in the range of(400 - 600) GeV. The built-in hierarchy of the 4$\times$4 mixing matrix is such that the $t'$ readily provides a needed {\it perturbation} ($\approx 15%$) to $\sin 2 β$ as measured in $B \to ψK_s$ and simu…
Radiatively-driven natural SUSY (RNS) models enjoy electroweak naturalness at the $10\%$ level while respecting LHC sparticle and Higgs mass constraints. Gluino and top squark masses can range up to several TeV (with other squarks even heavier) but a set of light Higgsinos are required with mass not too far above $m_h\sim 125$ GeV. Within the RNS framework, gluinos dominantly decay via ${\tilde g} \to t{\tilde t}_1^{*},\ \bar{t}{\tilde t}_1 \to t\bar{t}{\widetilde Z}_{1,2}$ or $t\bar{b}{\widetilde W}_1^-+c.c.$, where the decay products of the higgsino-like ${\widetilde W}_1$ and ${\widetilde Z…
At $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV, the standard model needs at least $10\, (fb)^{-1}$ integrated luminosity at LHC to make a definitive discovery of the Higgs boson. Using binary tetrahedral ($T^{'}$) discrete flavor symmetry, we discuss how the decay of the lightest $T'$ Higgs into $γ\,γ$ can be effectively enhanced and dominate over its decay into $b \, \bar{b}$. Since the two-photon final state allows for a clean reconstruction, a decisive Higgs discovery may be possible at 7 TeV with the integrated luminosity only of $\sim 1\, (fb)^{-1}$.
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors with 1--20 inverse femtobarns of data. We describe interesting new kinematic tests that can provide independent confirmation of this LSTC hypothesis. We find that cuts similar to those employed by CDF, and recently by ATLAS, cannot confirm the dijet signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrounds at the LHC that may reveal $ρ_…
The exclusive $Z^0$ photoproduction at high energies in $γp (A)$, $p p$ and $AA$ collisions is investigate within the color dipole formalism. We generalize the description of the deeply virtual compton scattering (DVCS) process, which describe quite well the HERA data, for the production of $Z^0$ bosons and estimate the total cross section for the exclusive process $γ^* h\to Z^0 h$ ($h=p,A$) for different energies, photon virtualities and atomic numbers. As hadrons at collider energies are a source of Weizsäcker - Williams photons, we consider electromagnetic interactions in hadron-hadron coll…
In this paper, potential of the LHC to explore the phenomenology of the Randall-Sundrum-like scenario with the small curvature for the process $pp \to p γγp \to p μ^- μ^+p $ through the subprocess $γγ\to μ^- μ^+$ is examined for two forward detector acceptances, $0.0015 < ξ< 0.5$ and $0.1< ξ<0.5$. This process is known to be one of the most clean channels. The sensitivity bounds on the anomalous model parameters have been found at the $95\%$ confidence level for various LHC integrated luminosity values.
We present a study of the LHC (and HL-LHC) potential towards a precise determination of the gluon parton distribution function of the proton at intermediate Bjorken-$x$ from measurements of Drell-Yan production. To this extent, we exploit a clean and theoretically well predicted observable: the Drell-Yan lepton angular coefficient $A_0$, associated with the longitudinal polarization of the Z boson. Through a detailed numerical analysis using the open-source xFitter platform, we illustrate how this observable can provide significant sensitivity over current determinations of the gluon PDF, and …
We investigate hadrons and direct photon production in pp collisions at the LHC energy within the color-dipole approach. We show that greatest sensitivity to gluon saturation effects is reached at very forward rapidities in pp collisions at LHC (\sqrt{s}=14 TeV). The discrepancies among various saturation models (fitted to HERA data) results can be about a factor of 2-3 at forward rapidities. We found that the ratio of direct-photon to pion production can be about 20-10 at forward rapidities η=7-8. Therefore, direct photon production at forward rapidities should provide a rather clean probe as…
Heavy resonances appearing in the clean Drell-Yan channel may be the first new physics to be observed at the proton-proton CERN LHC. If a new resonance is discovered at the LHC as a peak in the dilepton invariant mass distribution, the characterization of its spin and couplings will proceed via measuring production rates and angular distributions of the decay products. We discuss the discrimination of the spin-1 of Z' representative models (Z'_{SSM}, Z'_{psi}, Z'_{eta}, Z'_{chi}, Z'_{LR}, and Z'_{ALR}) against the Randall-Sundrum graviton resonance (spin-2) and a spin-0 resonance (sneutrino) w…
