In this paper, we use canonical transformations to collectively analytically continue the singularities of the simultaneous binary collision solutions for the collinear four- body problem in both the decoupled case and the coupled case. All the solutions are found and more importantly, we describe the relationship between the decoupled solutions and the coupled solutions.

Symbolic Dynamics of the Collinear Three-Body Problem

Solutions to the collinear three-body problem which do not end in triple collision pass through an infinite number of binary collisions. Given three masses, we show that four geometric quantities generate a finite description of itineraries of binary collisions. In the best circumstances, this description is semi-conjugate to a Poincare map of the flow. For other cases these quantities give upper and lower bounds on the itineraries which can occur. The singularity at a simultaneous binary collision is explored in the collinear 4-body problem. It is known that any attempt to remove the singularity via block regularisation will result in a regularised flow that is no more than $ C^{8/3} $ differentiable with respect to initial conditions. Periodic Solutions with Alternating Singularities in the Collinear Four-body Problem

This paper shows the existence of a periodic orbit with singularity in the symmetric collinear four body problem. In each period of the orbit, there is a binary collision (BC) between the inner two bodies and a simultaneous binary collision (SBC) of the two clusters on both sides of the origin. The system is regularized and the existence is proven by using the implicit function theorem and a continuity argument on differential equations of the regularized Hamiltonian.

Linear Stability for Some Symmetric Periodic Simultaneous Binary Collision Orbits in the Four-Body Problem

We apply the analytic-numerical method of Roberts to determine the linear stability of time-reversible periodic simultaneous binary collision orbits in the symmetric collinear four body problem with masses 1, m, m, 1, and also in a symmetric planar four-body problem with equal masses. For the collinear problem, this verifies the earlier numerical results of Sweatman for linear stability.

Eulerian collinear configuration for 3-body problem

For 3-body problem with any given masses $m_1, \,m_2,\,m_3>0$, there exist only Eulerian collinear central configuration and Lagrangian equilateral-triangle central configuration, and in this paper, for planar 3-body problem, we prove that there exists another non-collision trajectory $q$, which is not the variational minimizer of the Lagrangian action on the loop space $\overline{Λ_1}$, is also an Eulerian collinear central configuration at any instant. Moreover, we do not need the restriction condition on the winding number $deg(q_i-q_j)\neq0 \,(i\neq j)$.

On the $ C^{8/3} $-Regularisation of Simultaneous Binary Collisions in the Planar 4-Body Problem

The dynamics of the 4-body problem allows for two binary collisions to occur simultaneously. It is known that in the collinear 4-body problem this simultaneous binary collision (SBC) can be block-regularised, but that the resulting block map is only $C^{8/3}$ differentiable. In this paper, it is proved that the $C^{8/3}$ differentiability persists for the SBC in the planar 4-body problem. The proof uses several geometric tools, namely, blow-up, normal forms, dynamics near normally hyperbolic manifolds of equilibrium points, and Dulac maps.

Simultaneous Border-Collision and Period-Doubling Bifurcations

We unfold the codimension-two simultaneous occurrence of a border-collision bifurcation and a period-doubling bifurcation for a general piecewise-smooth, continuous map. We find that, with sufficient non-degeneracy conditions, a locus of period-doubling bifurcations emanates non-tangentially from a locus of border-collision bifurcations. Syzygies in the two center problem

We give a complete symbolic dynamics description of the dynamics of Euler's problem of two fixed centers. By analogy with the 3-body problem we use the collinearities (or syzygies) of the three bodies as symbols. We show that motion without collision on regular tori of the regularised integrable system are given by so called Sturmian sequences. Sturmian sequences were introduced by Morse and Hedlund in 1940.
