Progress in extracting excited-state baryon masses in lattice QCD using large sets of spatially-extended operators is presented. The use of stochastic estimates of all-to-all quark propagators with variance reduction techniques is described. Such techniques are crucial for incorporating multi-hadron operators into the correlation matrices of the hadron operators.
We simulate lattice QCD with two flavors of Wilson fermions at imaginary baryon chemical potential. Results for the baryon number density computed in the confining and deconfining phases at imaginary baryon chemical potential are used to determine the baryon number density and higher cumulants at the real chemical potential via analytical continuation.
In this work we present an efficient construction of baryon interpolating fields for lattice QCD computations of two and three point functions. These are essential building blocks of computations of nucleon parton distribution functions (PDFs), generalized parton distribution functions (GPDs) and transverse momentum dependent distributions functions (TMDs). Lattice QCD computations of these quantities can provide additional input to assist with the global fits on experimental data for determining TMDs, GPDs and PDFs.
The strangeness $S=-2$ baryon-baryon interaction is investigated directly from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, QCD. The HAL QCD method enables us to extract baryon interactions from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions without using any experimental information. We present our latest result on the $S = -2$ baryon interactions and discuss the H-dibaryon state using potentials which are calculated by using the (almost) physical point gauge configurations with large lattice volume of$(8.1{\rm{fm}})^4$ generated on the K-computer.
We study negative-parity baryon spectra in quenched anisotropic lattice QCD. The negative-parity baryons are measured as the parity partner of the ground-state baryons. In addition to the flavor octet and decuplet baryons, we pay much attention to the flavor-singlet negative-parity baryon as a three-quark state and compare it with the Lambda(1405) baryon. Numerical results of the flavor octet and decuplet negative-parity baryon masses are close to experimental values of lowest-lying negative-parity baryons, while the flavor-singlet baryon is much heavier than Lambda(1405). This indicates that …
We explore the possibility of a simulation of strong coupling QCD in terms of so-called baryon bags. In this form the known representation in terms of monomers, dimers and baryon loops is reorganized such that the baryon contributions are collected in space time domains referred to as baryon bags. Within the bags three quarks propagate coherently as a baryon that is described by a free fermion, whereas the rest of the lattice is solely filled with interacting meson terms, i.e., quark and diquark monomers and dimers. We perform a simulation directly in the baryon bag language using a newly deve…
The baryon-baryon interactions with strangeness S = -2 with the flavor SU(3) breaking are calculated for the first time by using the HAL QCD method extended to coupled channel system in lattice QCD. The potential matrices are extracted from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions obtained by the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations of CP-PACS/JLQCD Collaborations with a physical volume of 1.93 fm cubed and with m_pi/m_K = 0.96, 0.90, 0.86. The spatial structure and the quark mass dependence of the potential matrix in the baryon basis and in the SU(3) basis are investigated.
Progress in the calculation of the electromagnetic properties of baryon excitations in lattice QCD is presenting new challenges in the determination of sea-quark loop contributions to matrix elements. A reliable estimation of the sea-quark loop contributions presents a pressing issue in the accurate comparison of lattice QCD results with experiment. In this article, an extension of the graded symmetry approach to partially quenched QCD is presented, which builds on previous theory by explicitly including flavor-singlet baryons in its construction. The formalism takes into account the interacti…
In this article, we review the HAL QCD method to investigate baryon-baryon interactions such as nuclear forces in lattice QCD. We first explain our strategy in detail to investigate baryon-baryon interactions by defining potentials in field theories such as QCD. We introduce the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave functions in QCD for two baryons below the inelastic threshold. We then define the potential from NBS wave functions in terms of the derivative expansion, which is shown to reproduce the scattering phase shifts correctly below the inelastic threshold. Using this definition, we formulate …
Recent lattice results on the meson and baryon spectrum with a focus on the determination of hadronic resonance masses and widths using a combined basis of single-hadron and hadron-hadron interpolating fields are reviewed. These mostly exploratory calculations differ from traditional lattice QCD spectrum calculations for states stable under QCD, where calculations with a full uncertainty estimate are already routinely performed. Progress and challenges in these calculations are highlighted.
The magnetic dipole moments of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly heavy baryons are extracted in the framework of light-cone QCD sum rule. The electromagnetic properties of the doubly heavy baryons encodes important information of their internal structure. The results for the magnetic dipole moments of doubly heavy baryons acquired in this work are compared with the predictions of the other theoretical approaches.
We discuss the status of current dynamical lattice QCD simulations in connection to the emerging results on the strange and charmed baryon spectrum, excited states of the nucleon and the investigation of the structure of scalar mesons.
In this report, the most recent and precise estimates of masses of ground state baryons using lattice QCD are discussed. Considering the prospects in the heavy baryon sector, lattice estimates for these are emphasized. The first and only existing lattice determination of the highly excited $Ω_c$ excitations in relation to the recent LHCb discovery is also discussed.
A qualitative discussion on the range of the potentials as they result from the phenomenological meson-exchange picture and from lattice simulations by the HAL QCD Collaboration is presented. For the former pion- and/or $η$-meson exchange are considered together with the scalar-isoscalar component of correlated $ππ/K \bar K$ exchange. It is observed that the intuitive expectation for the behavior of the baryon-baryon potentials for large separations, associated with the exchange of one and/or two pions, does not always match with the potentials extracted from the lattice simulations. Only in c…
We present the energy spectra of the low lying doubly-charmed baryons using lattice quantum chromodynamics. We precisely predict the ground state mass of the charmed-strange Omega(cc) (1/2+) baryon to be 3712(11)(12) MeV which could well be the next doubly-charmed baryon to be discovered at the LHCb experiment at CERN. We also predict masses of other doubly-charmed strange baryons with quantum numbers 3/2+, 1/2-, and 3/2-.
The interaction energies between two baryons at short distance in different flavor channels are calculated from the constituent quark model (CQM) and are compared with the recent lattice QCD (LQCD) results for baryon-baryon potentials at short distance. We consider the six-quark system with two strange quarks and focus on the quantum numbers, (Flavor,Spin)=(1,0),(8,1),(10,1),($\overline{10}$,1) and (27,0). The interaction energy is defined by subtracting out isolated baryon masses and relative kinetic energy of two baryons from the total energy of a compact six-quark state. We introduce intera…
We present here continuum extrapolated results for all 2nd order cumulants using the most recent results obtained by the HotQCD collaboration in (2+1)-flavor QCD. We constrain the applicability of various HRG models by presenting a detailed comparison of our results based on different sets of hadron spectra as well as with virial expansion based model calculations. A comparison with our lattice QCD results for 2nd order cumulants with models that parametrize repulsive interactions among baryons and anti-baryons in a hadron resonance gas through a single excluded volume parameter (EVHRG) is als…
This paper provides results for the spectra of triply charmed and bottom baryons based on a constituent quark model approach. We take advantage of the assumption that potential models are expected to describe triply heavy baryons to a similar degree of accuracy as the successful results obtained in the charmonium and bottomonium sectors. The high precision calculation of the ground state and positive and negative parity excited states recently reported by nonperturbative lattice QCD provides us with a unique opportunity to confront model predictions with data. This comparison may also help to …
