Bottom baryon masses are calculated based on a 2+1 flavor dynamical lattice QCD simulation. The gauge field configurations were computed by the CP-PACS and JLQCD collaborations using an improved clover action. The bottom quark is described using lattice NRQCD. Results are presented for single and double-b baryons at one lattice spacing. Comparison with experimental values is discussed.
The ground state and first excited state masses of Omega(b) and Omega(bb) baryons are calculated in lattice QCD using dynamical 2+1 flavour gauge fields. A set of baryon operators employing different combinations of smeared quark fields was used in the framework of the variational method. Results for radial excitation energies were confirmed by carrying out a supplementary multiexponential fitting analysis. Comparison is made with quark model calculations.
The mass spectrum of charmed and bottom baryons has been computed on anisotropic lattices using quenched lattice nonrelativistic QCD. Masses are extracted by using mass splittings which are more accurate than masses obtained directly by using the nonrelativistic mass-energy relation. Of particular interest are the mass splittings between spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 heavy baryons, and we find that these color hyperfine effects are not suppressed in the baryon sector although they are known to be suppressed in the meson sector. Results are compared with those obtained in a previous NRQCD calculation a…
We determine the mass spectra of heavy baryons containing one or more bottom quarks along with their hyperfine splittings and various mass differences on MILC 2+1 Asqtad lattices at three different lattice spacings. NRQCD action is used for bottom quarks whereas relativistic HISQ action for the lighter up/down, strange and charm quarks. We consider all possible combinations of bottom and lighter quarks to construct the bottom baryon operators for the states $J^P=1/2^+$ and $3/2^+$.
We present the first lattice QCD study of up to $3S$ and $2P$ bottomonia at non-zero temperatures. Correlation functions of bottomonia were computed using novel bottomonium operators and a variational technique, within the lattice non-relativistic QCD framework. We analyzed the bottomonium correlation functions based on simple physically-motivated spectral functions. We found evidence of sequential in-medium modifications, in accordance with the sizes of the bottomonium states.
Finite energy QCD sum rules involving both inverse and positive moment integration kernels are employed to determine the bottom quark mass. The result obtained in the $\bar{\text {MS}}$ scheme at a reference scale of $10\, {GeV}$ is $\bar{m}_b(10\,\text{GeV})= 3623(9)\,\text{MeV}$. This value translates into a scale invariant mass $\bar{m}_b(\bar{m}_b) = 4171 (9)\, {MeV}$. This result has the lowest total uncertainty of any method, and is less sensitive to a number of systematic uncertainties that affect other QCD sum rule determinations.
The precision of lattice QCD calculations has been steadily improving for some time and is now approaching, or has surpassed, the 1% level for multiple quantities. At this level QED effects, i.e. the fact that quarks carry electric as well as color charge, come into play. In this report we will summarise results from the first lattice QCD+QED computations of the properties of ground-state charmonium and bottomonium mesons by the HPQCD Collaboration.
This report discusses some recent investigations of the heavy hadron spectra using lattice QCD. The first half addresses multiple precision determinations of the masses of charm (and bottom) baryons. Recent lattice results in the tetraquark and the dibaryon sectors are also presented. The second half focuses on new exploratory studies of the excited charmonium spectra in the vector and scalar channels. Along the way, lattice results are compared with the experimental results, wherever they are available.
We present results for the mass spectrum of charm and bottom heavy baryons, using MILC coarse lattice configurations with 2+1 flavors. Clover heavy quark propagators with the Fermilab interpretation and improved staggered light quark propagators are used to construct two point functions with local operators for different flavor and spin states.
We calculate the masses of baryons containing one, two, or three heavy quarks using lattice QCD. We consider all possible combinations of charm and bottom quarks, and compute a total of 36 different states with $J^P = \frac12^+$ and $J^P = \frac32^+$. We use domain-wall fermions for the up, down, and strange quarks, a relativistic heavy-quark action for the charm quarks, and nonrelativistic QCD for the bottom quarks. Our analysis includes results from two different lattice spacings and seven different pion masses. We perform extrapolations of the baryon masses to the continuum limit and to the…
We present lattice non-relativistic QCD calculations of bottomonium correlation functions at temperatures $T \simeq 150-350$ MeV. The correlation functions were computed using extended bottomonium operators, and on background gauge-field configurations for 2+1-flavor QCD having physical kaon and nearly-physical pion masses. We analyzed these correlation functions based on simple theoretically-motivated parameterizations of the corresponding spectral functions. The results of our analyses are compatible with significant in-medium thermal broadening of the ground state S- and P-wave bottomonia.
We discuss, how to study $I = 0$ quarkonium resonances decaying into pairs of heavy-light mesons using static potentials from lattice QCD. These static potentials can be obtained from a set of correlation functions containing both static and light quarks. As a proof of concept we focus on bottomonium with relative orbital angular momentum $L = 0$ of the $\bar{b} b$ pair corresponding to $J^{P C} = 0^{- +}$ and $J^{P C} = 1^{- -}$. We use static potentials from an existing lattice QCD string breaking study and compute phase shifts and $\mbox{T}$ matrix poles for the lightest heavy-light meson-m…
We have investigated the electromagnetic decays of the antitriplet and sextet charmed baryon systems with $J^P= \frac{1}{2}^+, \frac{3}{2}^+$ in the framework of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We first construct the chiral Lagrangians at $O(p^2)$ and $O(p^3)$. Then we calculate the electromagnetic (EM) decay amplitudes of the charmed baryon systems up to $O(p^3)$. With the help of the quark model, we estimate the low energy constants. The numerical results of the EM decay widths show good convergence of the chiral expansion. We notice that the two neutral EM decay processes $Ξ_c'…
Dynamical 2+1 flavor lattice QCD is used to calculate the masses of bottom hadrons, including B mesons, singly and doubly bottom baryons, and for the first time also the triply-bottom baryon Omega_bbb. The domain wall action is used for the up-, down-, and strange quarks (both valence and sea), while the bottom quark is implemented with non-relativistic QCD. A calculation of the bottomonium spectrum is also presented.
Utilizing lattice QCD results for the potential of two static antiquarks and two dynamical quarks as well as quark model techniques for the dynamics of two heavy antiquarks in a cloud of two light quarks, we are provided with an accurate framework for the study of possibly existing heavy-heavy-light-light tetraquarks. Among the possible quantum numbers of such a system, we find binding in only one channel, the scalar isosinglet. Solving the Schroedinger equation for the displacement of the heavy antiquarks and taking systematic errors into account, we find an antibottom-antibottom-light-light …
We present ground state spectra of mesons containing a charm and a bottom quark. For the charm quark we use overlap valence quarks while a non-relativistic formulation is utilized for the bottom quark on a background of 2+1+1 flavors HISQ gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration. The hyperfine splitting between $1S$ states of $B_c$ mesons is found to be $56^{+4}_{-3}$ MeV. We also study the baryons containing only charm and bottom quarks and predict their ground state masses. Results are obtained at three lattice spacings.
We study the temperature dependence of bottomonium for temperatures in the range $0.4 T_c < T < 2.1 T_c$, using nonrelativistic dynamics for the bottom quark and full relativistic lattice QCD simulations for $N_f=2$ light flavors on a highly anisotropic lattice. We find that the $Υ$ is insensitive to the temperature in this range, while the $χ_b$ propagators show a crossover from the exponential decay characterizing the hadronic phase to a power-law behaviour consistent with nearly-free dynamics at $T \simeq 2 T_c$.
As a result of continuous developments, the recent experimental searches lead to the observations of new particles at different hadronic channels. Among these hadrons are the excited states of the heavy baryons containing single bottom or charmed quark in their valance quark content. The recently observed $Λ_b(6072)^0$ state is one of these baryons and possibly $2S$ radial excitation of the $Λ_b$ state. Considering this information from the experiment, we conduct a QCD sum rule analysis on this state and calculate its mass and current coupling constant considering it as a $2S$ radially excited…
We study the $Λ_b(6146)^0$ and $Λ_b(6152)^0$ recently observed by LHCb using the method of QCD sum rules within the framework of heavy quark effective theory. Our results suggest that they can be interpreted as $D$-wave bottom baryons of $J^P = 3/2^+$ and $5/2^+$ respectively, both of which contain two $λ$-mode excitations. We also investigate other possible assignments containing $ρ$-mode excitations. We predict masses of their strangeness partners to be $m_{Ξ_b(3/2^+)} = 6.26^{+0.11}_{-0.14}$ GeV and $m_{Ξ_b(5/2^+)} = 6.26^{+0.11}_{-0.14}$ GeV with the mass splitting $ΔM = 4.5^{+1.9}_{-1.5}$…
We study the temperature dependence of bottomonium for temperatures in the range 0.4 Tc < T < 2.1 Tc, using non-relativistic dynamics for the bottom quark and full relativistic lattice QCD simulations for Nf=2 light flavors. We consider the behaviour of the correlators in Euclidean space, we analyze the associated spectral functions and we study the dependence on the momentum. Our results are amenable to a successful comparison with effective field theories. They help build a coherent picture of the behaviour of bottomonium in the plasma, consistent which the current LHC results.
We study bottomonium spectral functions in the quark-gluon plasma in the Upsilon and eta_b channels, using lattice QCD simulations with two flavours of light quark on highly anisotropic lattices. The bottom quark is treated with nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD). In the temperature range we consider, 0.42 < T/T_c < 2.09, we find that the ground states survive, whereas the excited states are suppressed as the temperature is increased. The position and width of the ground states are compared to analytical effective field theory (EFT) predictions. Systematic uncertainties of the maximum entropy method …
The temperature dependence of bottomonium states at temperatures above and below $T_c$ is presented, using non-relativistic dynamics for the bottom quark and full relativistic lattice QCD simulations for two light flavors on a highly anisotropic lattice. We find that the S-waves ($Υ$ and $η_b$) show little temperature dependence in this range while the P wave propagators show a crossover from the exponential decay characterizing the hadronic phase to a power-law behavior consistent with nearly-free dynamics at approximately twice the critical temperature.
We present preliminary results on the light, charmed and bottom baryon spectra using overlap valence quarks on the background of 2+1+1 flavours HISQ gauge configurations of the MILC collaboration. These calculations are performed on three different gauge ensembles at three lattice spacings (a ~ 0.12 fm, 0.09 fm and 0.06 fm) and for physical strange, charm and bottom quark masses. The SU(2) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory is used to extrapolate baryon masses to the physical pion mass and the continuum limit extrapolations are also performed. Our results are consistent with the well meas…
The spectrum of baryons containing three b quarks is calculated in nonperturbative QCD, using the lattice regularization. The energies of ten excited bbb states with J^P = 1/2^+, 3/2^+, 5/2^+, 7/2^+, 1/2^-, and 3/2^- are determined with high precision. A domain-wall action is used for the up-, down- and strange quarks, and the bottom quarks are implemented with NRQCD. The computations are done at lattice spacings of a \approx 0.11 fm and a \approx 0.08 fm, and the results demonstrate the improvement of rotational symmetry as a is reduced. A large lattice volume of (2.7 fm)^3 is used, and extra…
We report the ground state masses of hadrons containing at least one charm and one bottom quark using lattice quantum chromodynamics. These include mesons with spin (J)-parity (P) quantum numbers J(P): 0(-), 1(-), 1(+) and 0(+) and the spin-1/2 and 3/2 baryons. Among these hadrons only the ground state of 0(-) is known experimentally and therefore our predictions provide important information for the experimental discovery of all other hadrons with these quark contents.
The sequential melting of the bottomonium states is one of the important signals for the existence of a quark gluon plasma. The study of bottomonia spectral functions on the lattice is a difficult task for many reasons. Calculations based on NRQCD, that are commonly used for such purpose, are not applicable at high temperatures. In this work we propose a new method to study this problem by calculating the spatial screening masses of bottomonium states. We calculate the spatial meson correlators and extract the screening masses for mesons in different quantum channels using highly improved stag…
We compute the b quark mass from dynamical lattice QCD with clover quarks. The calculation is done at a fixed lattice spacing with sea quark masses as low as half the strange quark mass. Our final result is m_b(m_b} = 4.25(2)(11) GeV, where the first error is statistical and the last error is the systematic uncertainty.
We report on new attempt to investigate baryon-baryon interactions in lattice QCD. From the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) wave function, we have successfully extracted the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) potentials in quenched QCD simulations, which reproduce qualitative features of modern $NN$ potentials. The method has been extended to obtain the tensor potential as well as the central potential and also applied to the hyperon-nucleon ($YN$) interactions, in both quenched and full QCD.
