We propose the class of uniformly convex $W$-hyperbolic spaces with monotone modulus of uniform convexity ($UCW$-hyperbolic spaces for short) as an appropriate setting for the study of nonexpansive iterations. $UCW$-hyperbolic spaces are a natural generalization both of uniformly convex normed spaces and CAT(0)-spaces. Furthermore, we apply proof mining techniques to get effective rates of asymptotic regularity for Ishikawa iterations of nonexpansive self-mappings of closed convex subsets in $UCW$-hyperbolic spaces. These effective results are new even for uniformly convex Banach spaces.
This paper provides a fixed point theorem for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in uniformly convex hyperbolic spaces as well as new effective results on the Krasnoselski-Mann iterations of such mappings. The latter were found using methods from logic and the paper continues a case study in the general program of extracting effective data from prima-facie ineffective proofs in the fixed point theory of such mappings.
In this paper we obtain new effective results on the Halpern iterations of nonexpansive mappings using methods from mathematical logic or, more specifically, proof-theoretic techniques. We give effective rates of asymptotic regularity for the Halpern iterations of nonexpansive self-mappings of nonempty convex sets in normed spaces. The paper presents another case study in the project of {\em proof mining}, which is concerned with the extraction of effective uniform bounds from (prima-facie) ineffective proofs.
Fixed points for uniformly local asymptotic nonexpansive maps are discussed in this article. An approximate fixed point sequence for such a map over a uniformly convex Banach space is derived. At the end, we study the unique fixed point for uniformly local asymptotic contraction.
It is our aim in this article to correct the wrong impression created in the paper of A. Rafiq titled: "Convergence theorems for uniformly L-Lipschitzian Asymptotically Nonexpansive mappings" which appeared in Acta Universitatis Apulensis no. 20/2009, 183-192.
In this paper, we prove the strong convergence theorems for nearly nonexpansive mappings, using the modified Picard-Mann hybrid iteration process in the context of uniformly convex Banach space.
In this paper, we consider a new iteration process which is faster than all of Picard, Mann, Ishikawa and Agarwal et al. processes. We also prove some strong and weak convergence theorems for the class of nonexpansive mappings in Banach spaces.
Let $(X,\|.\|)$ be a Banach space. Let $C$ be a nonempty, bounded, closed, and convex subset of $X$ and $T: C \rightarrow C$ be a $G$-monotone nonexpansive mapping. In this work, it is shown that the Mann iteration sequence defined by $$x_{n+1} = t_n T(x_n) + (1-t_n)x_n, \, n = 1, 2, \cdots$$ can be proved the existence of a fixed point of $G$-monotone nonexpansive mappings.
We have derived that on certain Banach spaces having a graph structure $G$, the iterations for asymptotically $G$-nonexpansive map will converge weakly towards a fixed point. This result unifies and extends several theorems on fixed points proved by various authors for class of nonexpansive and asymptotically nonexpansive maps. As an application of this result, we derive that for maps satisfying the nonexpansive condition locally on special Banach spaces, the successive approximations converge weakly towards a fixed point.
We show that the super fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings and for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in the intermediate sense are equivalent. As a consequence, we obtain fixed point theorems for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in uniformly nonsquare and uniformly noncreasy Banach spaces. The results are generalized for commuting families of asymptotically nonexpansive mappings.
In this paper, we study $Δ$- convergence of iterations for a sequence of strongly quasi-nonexpansive mappings as well as the strong convergence of the Halpern type regularization of them in Hadamard spaces. Then, we give some their applications in iterative methods, convex and pseudo-convex minimization(proximal point algorithm), fixed point theory and equilibrium problems. The results extend several new results in the literature and some of them seem new even in Hilbert spaces.
Using the technique of enrichment of contractive type mappings by Krasnoselskij averaging, presented here for the first time, we introduce and study the class of {\it enriched nonexpansive mappings} in Hilbert spaces. In order to approximate the fixed points of enriched nonexpansive mappings we use the Krasnoselskij iteration for which we prove strong and weak convergence theorems. Examples to illustrate the richness of the new class of contractive mappings are also given. Our results in this paper extend some classical convergence theorems established by Browder and Petryshyn in [Browder, F. …
This paper provides a fixed point theorem and iterative construction of a common fixed point for a general class of nonlinear mappings in the setup of uniformly convex hyperbolic spaces. We translate a multi-step iteration, essentially due to Chidume and Ofoedu [4] in such setting for the approximation of common fixed points of a finite family of total asymptotically nonexpansive mappings. As a consequence, we establish strong and del-convergence results which extend and generalize various corresponding results announced in the current literature.
In this paper we propose a new iteration process, called the K iteration process, for approximation of fixed points. We show that our iteration process is faster than the existing leading iteration processes like Picard-S iteration process, Thakur New iteration process and Vatan Twostep iteration process for contraction mappings. We support our analytic proof by a numerical example. Stability of K iteration process and data dependence result for contraction mappings by employing K iteration process is also discussed. Finally we prove some weak and strong convergence theorems for the Suzuki gen…
We prove weak and strong convergence theorems for a double Krasnoselskij type iterative method to approximate coupled solutions of a bivariate nonexpansive operator F : C x C --> C, where C is a nonempty closed and convex subset of a Hilbert space. The new convergence theorems generalize, extend, improve and complement very important old and recent results in coupled fixed point theory. Some appropriate examples to illustrate our new results and their generalization are also given.
By using the Ishikawa iterative algorithm, we approximate the fixed points and the best proximity points of a relatively non expansive mapping. Also, we use the von Neumann sequence to prove the convergence result in a Hilbert space setting. A comparison table is prepared using a numerical example which shows that the Ishikawa iterative algorithm is faster than some known iterative algorithms such as Picard and Mann iteration.
In this paper, we prove the existence of fixed points of mappings satisfying the condition (Da), a kind of generalized nonexpansive mappings, on a weakly compact convex subset in a Banach space satisfying Opial's condition. And we use Sahu([6]) and Thakur([10])'s iterative scheme to establish several convergence theorems in uniformly convex Banach spaces and give an example to show that this scheme converges faster than the scheme in [1]
A gap in the proof of Theorem 3.5 in the paper ``A new iteration process for approximation of common fixed points for finite families of total asymtotically nonexpansive mappings". Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. vol. 2009, doi:10.1155/2009/615107" is observed. The argument used on page 11, starting from line 8 from bottom to the end of the proof of the theorem is not correct. In this corrigendum, it is our aim to close this gap.
In this paper, we generalize the existence result in [14] and prove convergence theorems of the iterative scheme in [12, 16] for monotone generalized alpa-nonexpansive mappings in uniformly convex partially ordered hyperbolic metric spaces. And we also give a numerical example to show that this scheme converges faster than the scheme in [14] and apply the result to the integral equation.
We use techniques of proof mining to extract a uniform rate of metastability (in the sense of Tao) for the strong convergence of approximants to fixed points of uniformly continuous pseudocontractive mappings in Banach spaces which are uniformly convex and uniformly smooth, i.e. a slightly restricted form of the classical result of Reich. This is made possible by the existence of a modulus of uniqueness specific to uniformly convex Banach spaces and by the arithmetization of the use of the limit superior. The metastable convergence can thus be proved in a system which has the same provably tot…
Firmly nonexpansive mappings play an important role in metric fixed point theory and optimization due to their correspondence with maximal monotone operators. In this paper we do a thorough study of fixed point theory and the asymptotic behaviour of Picard iterates of these mappings in different classes of geodesic spaces, as (uniformly convex) $W$-hyperbolic spaces, Busemann spaces and CAT(0) spaces. Furthermore, we apply methods of proof mining to obtain effective rates of asymptotic egularity for the Picard iterations.
We give a rate of metastability for Halpern's iteration relative to a rate of metastability for the resolvent for nonexpansive mappings in uniformly smooth Banach spaces, extracted from a proof due to Xu. In Hilbert space, the latter is known, so we get an explicit rate of metastability. We also extract a rate of asymptotic regularity for general normed spaces. Such rates have already been extracted by Kohlenbach and Leuştean for different and incomparable conditions on $(λ_n)$. The proof analyzed in this paper is also more effective than the proofs treated by Kohlenbach and Leuştean in that i…
This paper provides uniform bounds on the asymptotic regularity for iterations associated to a finite family of nonexpansive mappings. We obtain our quantitative results in the setting of $(r,δ)$-convex spaces, a class of geodesic spaces which generalizes metric spaces with a convex geodesic bicombing.
It is shown that if $C$ is a nonempty convex and weakly compact subset of a Banach space $X$ with $M(X)>1$ and $T:C\rightarrow C$ satisfies condition $(C)$ or is continuous and satisfies condition $(C_λ)$ for some $λ\in (0,1)$, then $T$ has a fixed point. In particular, our theorem holds for uniformly nonsquare Banach spaces. A similar statement is proved for nearly uniformly noncreasy spaces.
In this paper, a strong convergence theorem for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in a uniformly convex and smooth Banach space is proved by using metric projections. This theorem extends and improves the recent strong convergence theorem due to Matsushita and Takahashi [ Appl. Math. Comput. 196 (2008) 422-425] which was established for nonexpansive mappings.
In this paper, we introduce a new modified Ishikawa iteration for finding a common element of the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem and the set of fixed points of relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space. Our results generalize, extend and enrich some existing results in the literature.
Alternative iterative methods for a nonexpansive mapping in a Banach space are proposed and proved to be convergent to a common solution to a fixed point problem and a variational inequality. We give rates of asymptotic regularity for such iterations using proof-theoretic techniques. Some applications of the convergence results are presented.
Let $C$ be a nonempty closed and convex subset of a uniformly smooth and uniformly convex real Banach space $E$ with dual space $E^*$. We present a novel hybrid method for finding a common solution of a family of equilibrium problems, a common solution of a family of variational inequality problems and a common element of fixed points of a family of a general class of nonlinear nonexpansive maps. The sequence of this new method is proved to converge strongly to a common element of the families. Our theorem and its applications complement, generalize, and extend various results in literature.
We consider a class of generalized nonexpansive mappings introduced by Karapinar [5] and seen as a generalization of Suzuki (C)-condition. We prove some weak and strong convergence theorems for approximating fixed points of such mappings under suitable conditions in uniformly convex Banach spaces. Our results generalize those of Khan and Suzuki [4] to the case of this kind of mappings and, in turn, are related to a famous convergence theorem of Reich [2] on nonexpansive mappings.
In this paper, we prove first that the iterates of a mean nonexpansive map defined on a weakly compact, convex set converge weakly to a fixed point in the presence of Opial's property and asymptotic regularity at a point. Next, we prove the analogous result for closed, convex (not necessarily bounded) subsets of uniformly convex Opial spaces. These results generalize the classical theorems for nonexpansive maps of Browder and Petryshyn in Hilbert space and Opial in reflexive spaces satisfying Opial's condition.
In this paper, we prove a mean ergodic theorem for nonexpansive mappings in Hadamard (nonpositive curvature metric) spaces, which extends the Baillon nonlinear ergodic theorem. The main result shows that the sequence given by the Karcher means of iterations of a nonexpansive mapping with a nonempty fixed point set converges weakly to a fixed point of the mapping. This result also remains true for a 1-parameter continuous semigroup of contractions.
In this note, at first we prove that the existence of best proximity points for cyclic relatively nonexpansive mappings is equivalent to the existence of best proximity pairs for noncyclic relatively nonexpansive mappings in the setting of strictly convex Banach spaces by using the projection operator. In this way, we conclude that a main result of the paper "Proximal normal structure and relatively nonexpansive mappings", Studia Math., (171~(2005) 283--293) immediately follows. We then discuss the convergence of best proximity pairs for noncyclic contractions by applying the convergence of it…
We show that if a Banach space X has the weak fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings and Y has the generalized Gossez-Lami Dozo property or is uniformly convex in every direction, then the direct sum of X and Y with a strictly monotone norm has the weak fixed point property. The result is new even if Y is finite-dimensional.
In this paper we apply methods of proof mining to obtain a highly uniform effective rate of asymptotic regularity for the Ishikawa iteration associated to nonexpansive self-mappings of convex subsets of a class of uniformly convex geodesic spaces. Moreover, we show that these results are guaranteed by a combination of logical metatheorems for classical and semi-intuitionistic systems.
The purpose of this paper is to study an implicit scheme for a representation of nonexpansive mappings on a closed convex subset of a smooth and uniformly convex Banach space with respect to a left regular sequence of means defined on an appropriate space of bounded real valued functions of the semigroup. This algorithm extends the algorithm that introduced in [N. Hussain, M. L. Bami and E. Soori, An implicit method for finding a common fixed point of a representation of nonexpansive mappings in Banach spaces, Fixed Point Theory and Applications 2014, 2014:238].
In this study, we introduce a new iterative processes to approximate common fixed points of an infinite family of quasi-nonexpansive mappings and obtain a strongly convergent iterative sequence to the common fixed points of these mappings in a uniformly convex Banach space. Also we prove that this process to approximate zeros of an infinite family of accretive operators and we obtain a strong convergence result for these operators. Our results improve and generalize many known results in the current literature.
In this paper we provide a unified treatment of some convex minimization problems, which allows for a better understanding and, in some cases, improvement of results in this direction proved recently in spaces of curvature bounded above. For this purpose, we analyze the asymptotic behavior of compositions of finitely many firmly nonexpansive mappings in the setting of $p$-uniformly convex geodesic spaces focusing on asymptotic regularity and convergence results.
Let $S$ be a right reversible semitopological semigroup, and let $\operatorname{LUC}(S)$ be the space of left uniformly continuous functions on $S$. Suppose that $\operatorname{LUC}(S)$ has a left invariant mean. Let $K$ be a weakly compact convex subset of a Banach space. We show that there always exists a common fixed point for any jointly weakly continuous and super asymptotically nonexpansive action of $S$ on $K$. Several variances involving the weak* compactness, the RNP, the distality of $K$ and/or the left reversibility of $S$ are also provided.
We extend to $p$-uniformly convex spaces tools from the analysis of fixed point iterations in linear spaces. This study is restricted to an appropriate generalization of single-valued, pointwise $α$-averaged mappings. Our main contribution is establishing a calculus for these mappings in p-uniformly convex spaces, showing in particular how the property is preserved under compositions and convex combinations. This is of central importance to splitting algorithms that are built by such convex combinations and compositions, and reduces the convergence analysis to simply verifying $α$-firm nonexpa…
Let $(A, B)$ be a nonempty bounded closed convex proximal parallel pair in a nearly uniformly convex Banach space and $T: A\cup B \rightarrow A\cup B$ be a continuous and asymptotically relatively nonexpansive map. We prove that there exists $x \in A\cup B$ such that $\|x - Tx\| = \emph{dist}(A, B)$ whenever $T(A) \subseteq B$, $T(B) \subseteq A$. Also, we establish that if $T(A) \subseteq A$ and $T(B) \subseteq B$, then there exist $x \in A$ and $y\in B$ such that $Tx = x$, $Ty = y$ and $\|x - y\| = \emph{dist}(A, B)$. We prove the aforesaid results when the pair $(A, B)$ has the rectangle pr…
Given $A$ and $B$ two nonempty subsets in a metric space, a mapping $T : A \cup B \rightarrow A \cup B$ is relatively nonexpansive if $d(Tx,Ty) \leq d(x,y) \text{for every} x\in A, y\in B.$ A best proximity point for such a mapping is a point $x \in A \cup B$ such that $d(x,Tx)=\text{dist}(A,B)$. In this work, we extend the results given in [A.A. Eldred, W.A. Kirk, P. Veeramani, Proximal normal structure and relatively nonexpansive mappings, Studia Math., 171 (2005), 283-293] for relatively nonexpansive mappings in Banach spaces to more general metric spaces. Namely, we give existence results …
Let LUC$(S)$ be the space of left uniformly continuous functions on a semitopological semigroup $S$. Suppose that $S$ is right reversible and $\operatorname{LUC}(S)$ has a left invariant mean. Let $(X,d)$ be a Fréchet space. Let $τ$ be a locally convex topology of $X$ weaker than the $d$-topology such that the metric $d$ is $τ$-lower semicontinuous. Let $K$ be a $d$--separable and $τ$--compact convex subset of $X$. We show that every jointly $τ$-continuous and super asymptotically $d$-nonexpansive action $S\times K\mapsto K$ of $S$ has a common fixed point. Similar results in the locally conve…
In this paper, the Pazy's Fixed Point Theorems of monotone $α-$nonexpansive mapping $T$ are proved in a uniformly convex Banach space $E$ with the partial order "$\leq$". That is, we obtain that the fixed point set of $T$ with respect to the partial order "$\leq$" is nonempty whenever the Picard iteration $\{T^nx_0\}$ is bounded for some initial point $x_0$ with $x_0\leq Tx_0$ or $Tx_0\leq x_0$. When restricting the demain of $T$ to the cone $P$, a monotone $α-$nonexpansive mapping $T$ has at least a fixed point if and only if the Picard iteration $\{T^n0\}$ is bounbed. Furthermore, with the h…
In this paper, we introduce a new three-step iteration process in Banach space and prove convergence results for approximating fixed points for nonexpansive mappings. Also, we show that the newly introduced iteration process converges faster than a number of existing iteration processes. Further, we discuss about the solution of mixed type Volterra-Fredholm functional nonlinear integral equation.
The correspondence between the class of nonexpansive mappings and the class of maximally monotone operators via the reflected resolvents of the latter has played an instrumental role in the convergence analysis of the splitting methods. Indeed, the performance of some of these methods, e.g., Douglas-Rachford and Peaceman-Rachford methods hinges on iterating the so-called splitting operator associated with the individual operators. This splitting operator is a function of the composition of the reflected resolvents of the underlying operators. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive study of …
Let B be a p-uniformly convex Banach space, with p >= 2. Let T be a linear operator on B, and let A_n x denote the ergodic average (1 / n) sum_{i< n} T^n x. We prove the following variational inequality in the case where T is power bounded from above and below: for any increasing sequence (t_k)_{k in N} of natural numbers we have sum_k || A_{t_{k+1}} x - A_{t_k} x ||^p <= C || x ||^p, where the constant C depends only on p and the modulus of uniform convexity. For T a nonexpansive operator, we obtain a weaker bound on the number of epsilon-fluctuations in the sequence. We clarify the relations…
This paper is part of the general project of proof mining, developed by Kohlenbach. By "proof mining" we mean the logical analysis of mathematical proofs with the aim of extracting new numerically relevant information hidden in the proofs. We present logical metatheorems for classes of spaces from functional analysis and hyperbolic geometry, like Gromov hyperbolic spaces, ${\mathbb R}$-trees and uniformly convex hyperbolic spaces. Our theorems are adaptations to these structures of previous metatheorems of Gerhardy and Kohlenbach, and they guarantee a-priori, under very general logical conditi…
