Consider a multidimensional SDE of the form $X_t = x+\int_{0}^{t} b(X_{s-})ds+\int{0}^{t} f(X_{s-})dZ_s$ where $(Z_s)_{s\ge 0}$ is a symmetric stable process. Under suitable assumptions on the coefficients the unique strong solution of the above equation admits a density w.r.t. the Lebesgue measure and so does its Euler scheme. Using a parametrix approach, we derive an error expansion at order 1 w.r.t. the time step for the difference of these densities.
In this work we present a condition for the regularity, in both space and Malliavin sense, of strong solutions to SDEs driven by Brownian motion. We conjecture that this condition is optimal. As a consequence, we are able to improve the regularity of densities of such solutions. We also apply these results to construct a classical solution to the stochastic transport equation when the drift is Lipschitz.
In this paper we consider a class of stochastic differential equations driven by subordinate Brownian motion with Markovian switching. We use Malliavin calculus to study the smoothness of the density for the solution under uniform Hörmander's type condition.
In this paper we study the existence of densities for strongly degenerate stochastic differential equations (SDEs) whose coefficients depend on time and are not globally Lipschitz. In these models neither local ellipticity nor the strong Hörmander condition is satisfied. In this general setting we show that continuous transition densities indeed exist in all neighborhoods of points where the weak Hörmander condition is satisfied. We also exhibit regions where these densities remain positive. We then apply these results to stochastic Hodgkin-Huxley models with periodic input as a first step tow…
We consider a process given as the solution of a stochastic differential equation with irregular, path dependent and time-inhomogeneous drift coefficient and additive noise. Explicit and optimal bounds for the Lebesgue density of that process at any given time are derived. The bounds and their optimality is shown by identifying the worst case stochastic differential equation. Then we generalise our findings to a larger class of diffusion coefficients.
We establish the existence of smooth densities for solutions to a broad class of path-dependent SDEs under a Hörmander-type condition. The classical scheme based on the reduced Malliavin matrix turns out to be unavailable in the path-dependent context. We approach the problem by lifting the given $n$-dimensional path-dependent SDE into a suitable $L_p$-type Banach space in such a way that the lifted Banach-space-valued equation becomes a state-dependent reformulation of the original SDE. We then formulate Hörmander's bracket condition in $\mathbb R^n$ for non-anticipative SDE coefficients defi…
We prove that the weak solution of a uniformly elliptic stochastic differential equation with locally smooth diffusion coefficient and Hölder continuous drift has a Hölder continuous density function. This result complements recent results of Fournier-Printems \cite{F1}, where the density is shown to exist if both coefficients are Hölder continuous and exemplifies the role of the drift coefficient in the regularity of the density of a diffusion.
In this work we prove the existence of a smooth density for the solution to an SDE with locally Lipschitz and semimonotone drift, and will derive an exponential decay for this density and all of its derivatives as well. Our main tool in this paper is an integration by parts formula for the solution of the mentioned SDE in the Wiener space. We construct an approximating sequence of SDEs with globally Lipschitz drifts and obtain a uniform bound for the integral of their solutions from which we derive the exponential decay for the derivatives of the density of the original SDE.
We consider a process given as the solution of a one-dimensional stochastic differential equation with irregular, path dependent and time-inhomogeneous drift coefficient and additive noise. Hölder continuity of the Lebesgue density of that process at any given time is achieved using a different approach than the classical ones in the literature. Namely, the Hölder regularity of the densities is obtained via a control problem by identifying the stochastic differential equation with the worst global Hölder constant. Then we generalise our findings to a larger class of diffusion coefficients. The…
Using the Bismut's approach to Malliavin calculus, we introduce a simplified Malliavin matrix ([11]) for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) force by degenerate stable like noises. For the degenerate SDEs driven by Wiener noises, one can derive a Norris type lemma and use it \emph{iteratively} to prove the smoothness of density functions. Unfortunately, Norris type lemma is very hard to be iteratively applied to SDEs with stable like noises. In this paper, we derive a simple inequality as a replacement and use it to show that two families of degenerate SDEs with stable like noises admit s…
We study a large class of McKean-Vlasov SDEs with drift and diffusion coefficient depending on the density of the solution's time marginal laws in a Nemytskii-type of way. A McKean-Vlasov SDE of this kind arises from the study of the associated nonlinear FPKE, for which is known that there exists a bounded Sobolev-regular Schwartz-distributional solution u. Via the superposition principle, it is already known that there exists a weak solution to the McKean-Vlasov SDE with time marginal densities u. We show that there exists a strong solution the McKean-Vlasov SDE, which is unique among weak so…
We study smoothness of densities for the solutions of SDEs whose coefficients are smooth and nondegenerate only on an open domain $D$. We prove that a smooth density exists on $D$ and give upper bounds for this density. Under some additional conditions (mainly dealing with the growth of the coefficients and their derivatives), we formulate upper bounds that are suitable to obtain asymptotic estimates of the density for large values of the state variable ("tail" estimates). These results specify and extend some results by Kusuoka and Stroock [J. Fac. Sci. Univ. Tokyo Sect. IA Math. 32 (1985) 1-…
In this paper, the discrete parameter expansion is adopted to investigate the estimation of heat kernel for Euler-Maruyama scheme of SDEs driven by α-stable noise, which implies krylov's estimate and khasminskii's estimate. As an application, the convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama scheme of a class of multidimensional SDEs with singular drift( in aid of Zvonkin's transformation) is obtained.
In this work, by using the Malliavin calculus, under Hörmander's condition, we prove the existence of distributional densities for the solutions of stochastic differential equations driven by degenerate subordinated Brownian motions. Moreover, in a special degenerate case, we also obtain the smoothness of the density. In particular, we obtain the existence of smooth heat kernels for the following fractional kinetic Fokker-Planck (nonlocal) operator: \[\mathscr{L}^{(α)}_b:=Δ^{α/2}_{\mathrm{v}}+\mathrm {v}\cdot \nabla_x+b(x,\mathrm{v})\cdot \nabla_{\mathrm{v}},\qquad x,\mathrm{v}\in\mathbb{R}^d,…
We study a class of stochastic differential equations driven by a possibly tempered L{é}vy process, under mild conditions on the coefficients. We prove the well-posedness of the associated martingale problem as well as the existence of the density of the solution. Two sided heat kernel estimates are given as well. Our approach is based on the Parametrix series expansion
We derive the stochastic version of the Magnus expansion for linear systems of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The main novelty with respect to the related literature is that we consider SDEs in the Itô sense, with progressively measurable coefficients, for which an explicit Itô-Stratonovich conversion is not available. We prove convergence of the Magnus expansion up to a stopping time τ and provide a novel asymptotic estimate of the cumulative distribution function of t. As an application, we propose a new method for the numerical solution of stochastic partial differential equation…
In this article, we study the numerical approximation of stochastic differential equations driven by a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter greater than 1/3. We introduce an implementable scheme for these equations, which is based on a second order Taylor expansion, where the usual Levy area terms are replaced by products of increments of the driving fBm. The convergence of our scheme is shown by means of a combination of rough paths techniques and error bounds for the discretisation of the Levy area terms.
Weak approximations have been developed to calculate the expectation value of functionals of stochastic differential equations, and various numerical discretization schemes (Euler, Milshtein) have been studied by many authors. We present a general framework based on semigroup expansions for the construction of higher-order discretization schemes and analyze its rate of convergence. We also apply it to approximate general Lévy driven stochastic differential equations.
Implementation of Strong Numerical Methods of Orders 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 for Ito SDEs with Non-Commutative Noise Based on the Unified Taylor-Ito and Taylor-Stratonovich Expansions and Multiple Fourier-Legendre Series
This paper develops a new efficient scheme for approximations of expectations of the solutions to stochastic differential equations (SDEs). In particular, we present a method for connecting approximate operators based on an asymptotic expansion with multidimensional Malliavin weights to compute a target expectation value precisely. The mathematical validity is given based on Watanabe and Kusuoka theories in Malliavin calculus. Moreover, numerical experiments for option pricing under local and stochastic volatility models confirm the effectiveness of our scheme. Especially, our weak approximati…
We combine the rough path theory and stochastic backward error analysis to develop a new framework for error analysis on numerical schemes. Based on our approach, we prove that the almost sure convergence rate of the modified Milstein scheme for stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative multidimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac14,\frac12)$ is $(2H-\frac12)^-$ for sufficiently smooth coefficients, which is optimal in the sense that it is consistent with the result of the corresponding implementable approximation of the Lévy area of fractional …
Let $α\in(0,2)$ and $d\in{\mathbb N}$. Consider the following SDE in ${\mathbb R}^d$:$${\rm d}X_t=b(t,X_t){\rm d} t+a(t,X_{t-}){\rm d} L^{(α)}_t,\ \ X_0=x,$$where $L^{(α)}$ is a $d$-dimensional rotationally invariant $α$-stable process, $b:{\mathbb R}_+\times{\mathbb R}^d\to{\mathbb R}^d$ and $a:{\mathbb R}_+\times{\mathbb R}^d\to{\mathbb R}^d\otimes{\mathbb R}^d$ are H{ö}lder continuous functions in space, with respective order $β,γ\in (0,1)$ such that $(β\wedge γ)+α>1$, uniformly in $t$. Here $b$ may be unbounded.When $a$ is bounded and uniformly elliptic, we show that the unique solution $X…
We develop in this work a numerical method for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with weak second order accuracy based on Gaussian mixture. Unlike the conventional higher order schemes for SDEs based on Itô-Taylor expansion and iterated Itô integrals, the proposed scheme approximates the probability measure $μ(X^{n+1}|X^n=x_n)$ by a mixture of Gaussians. The solution at next time step $X^{n+1}$ is then drawn from the Gaussian mixture with complexity linear in the dimension $d$. This provides a new general strategy to construct efficient high weak order numerical schemes for SDEs.
In this paper, higher-order expansions for distributions and densities of powered extremes of standard normal random sequences are established under an optimal choice of normalized constants. Our findings refine the related results in Hall (1980). Furthermore, it is shown that the rate of convergence of distributions/densities of normalized extremes depends in principle on the power index.
Approximations for an unknown density $g$ in terms of a reference density $f_ν$ and its associated orthonormal polynomials are discussed. The main application is the approximation of the density $f$ of a sum $S$ of lognormals which may have different variances or be dependent. In this setting, $g$ may be $f$ itself or a transformed density, in particular that of $\log S$ or an exponentially tilted density. Choices of reference densities $f_ν$ that are considered include normal, gamma and lognormal densities. For the lognormal case, the orthonormal polynomials are found in closed form and it is…
We show that the rate of convergence of asymptotic expansions for solutions of SDEs is generally higher in the case of degenerate (or partial) diffusion compared to the elliptic case, i.e. it is higher when the Brownian motion directly acts only on some components of the diffusion. In the scalar case, this phenomenon was already observed in (Gobet and Miri 2014) using Malliavin calculus techniques. In this paper, we provide a general and detailed analysis by employing the recent study of intrinsic functional spaces related to hypoelliptic Kolmogorov operators in (Pagliarani et al. 2016). Relev…

We prove an expansion for densities in the free CLT and apply this result to an expansion in the entropic free central limit theorem assuming a moment condition of order four for the free summands.
Classical Edgeworth expansions provide asymptotic correction terms to the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) up to an order that depends on the number of moments available. In this paper, we provide subsequent correction terms beyond those given by a standard Edgeworth expansion in the general case of regularly varying distributions with diverging moments (beyond the second). The subsequent terms can be expressed in a simple closed form in terms of certain special functions (Dawson's integral and parabolic cylinder functions), and there are qualitative differences depending on whether the number of m…
We consider a stochastic volatility model with Lévy jumps for a log-return process $Z=(Z_{t})_{t\geq 0}$ of the form $Z=U+X$, where $U=(U_{t})_{t\geq 0}$ is a classical stochastic volatility process and $X=(X_{t})_{t\geq 0}$ is an independent Lévy process with absolutely continuous Lévy measure $ν$. Small-time expansions, of arbitrary polynomial order, in time-$t$, are obtained for the tails $\bbp(Z_{t}\geq z)$, $z>0$, and for the call-option prices $\bbe(e^{z+Z_{t}}-1)_{+}$, $z\neq 0$, assuming smoothness conditions on the {\PaleGrey density of $ν$} away from the origin and a small-time large…
We prove an expansion for densities in the free CLT and apply this result to an expansion in the entropic free central limit theorem assuming a moment condition of order 8 for the free summands.
We expand the Chebyshev polynomials and some of its linear combination in linear combinations of the q-Hermite, the Rogers (q-utraspherical) and the Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials and vice versa. We use these expansions to obtain expansions of some densities, including q-Normal and some related to it, in infinite series constructed of the products of the other density times polynomials orthogonal to it, allowing deeper analysis and discovering new properties. On the way we find an easy proof of expansion of the Poisson--Mehler kernel as well as its reciprocal. We also formulate simple rule rela…
We provide a sufficient condition for the uniqueness in distribution of Gibbs point processes with non-negative pairwise interaction, together with convergent expansions of the log-Laplace functional, factorial moment densities and factorial cumulant densities (correlation functions and truncated correlation functions). The criterion is a continuum version of a convergence condition by Fern{á}ndez and Procacci (2007), the proof is based on the Kirkwood-Salsburg integral equations and is close in spirit to the approach by Bissacot, Fern{á}ndez and Procacci (2010). In addition, we provide formul…
We give equivalent forms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials expressing them with the help of the Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials. After restricting parameters of the Askey-Wilson polynomials to complex conjugate pairs we expand the Askey-Wilson weight function in the series similar to the Poisson-Mehler expansion formula and give its probabilistic interpretation. In particular this result can be used to calculate explicit forms of 'q-Hermite' moments of the Askey-Wilson density, hence enabling calculation of all moments of the Askey-Wilson density. On the way (by setting certain parameter q to 0) we…
