We provide evidence for the influence of thermal fluctuations of Goldstone modes on the chiral condensate at finite temperature. We show that at fixed temperature, T<Tc, in the vicinity of the chiral transition temperature this leads to a characteristic dependence of the chiral condensate on the square root of the light quark mass (m_l), which is expected for 3-dimensional models with broken O(N) symmetry. As a consequence the chiral susceptibility shows a strong quark mass dependence for all temperatures below Tc and diverges like 1/sqrt(m_l) in the chiral limit.
We introduce a scalar-less anomaly free chiral gauge theory that serves as natural ultraviolet completion of models of fundamental composite (Goldstone) Higgs dynamics. The new theory is able to generate the top mass and furthermore features a built-in protection mechanism that naturally suppresses the bottom mass. At low energies the theory predicts new fractionally charged fermions, and a number of four-fermion operators that, besides being relevant for the generation of the top mass, also lead to an intriguing phenomenology for the new states predicted by the theory.
We develop Chiral Perturbation Theory for chirally broken theories with fermions in two different representations of the gauge group. Any such theory has a non-anomalous singlet $U(1)_A$ symmetry, yielding an additional Nambu-Goldstone boson when spontaneously broken. We calculate the next-to-leading order corrections for the pseudoscalar masses and decay constants, which include the singlet Nambu-Goldstone boson, as well as for the two condensates. The results can be generalized to more than two representations.
I show that a finite density of near-zero localised Dirac modes in the chirally broken phase of a gauge theory can lead to the disappearance of the massless excitations predicted by the Goldstone theorem at finite temperature.
We carry out lattice simulations of two-color QCD and spectroscopy at finite density with two flavors of rooted-staggered quarks and a diquark source term. As in a previous four-flavor study, for small values of the inverse gauge coupling we observe a Goldstone spectrum which reflects the symmetry-breaking pattern of a Gaussian symplectic chiral random-matrix ensemble (GSE) with Dyson index $β_D=4$, which corresponds to any-color QCD with adjoint quarks in the continuum instead of QC$_2$D wih fundamental quarks. We show that this unphysical behavior occurs only inside of the bulk phase of $SU(…
We discuss the proper definition for the chiral crossover at finite temperature, based on the Goldstone's theorem. Different from the usually used maximum change of chiral condensate, we propose to define the crossover temperature by the Mott transition of pseudo-Goldstone bosons, which, by definition, guarantees the Goldstone's theorem. We analytically and numerically demonstrate this property in frame of a Pauli-Villars regularized NJL model. In external magnetic field, we find that the Mott transition temperature shows an inverse magnetic catalysis effect.
There are indications that some theories with spontaneous symmetry breaking also feature a light scalar in their spectrum, with a mass comparable to the one of the Goldstone modes. In this paper, we perform the one-loop renormalization of a theory of Goldstone modes invariant under a chiral $SU(n)\times SU(n)$ symmetry group coupled to a generic scalar singlet. We employ the background field method, together with the heat kernel expansion, to get an expression for the effective action at one loop and single out the anomalous dimensions, which can be read off from the second Seeley-DeWitt coeff…
Chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra is expected but it remains to be confirmed both in lattice QCD computations and in experiments. Recently, a theorem was derived, relating chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra to the spontaneous generation of the dynamical quark mass in QCD. We refine the theorem in the case of static-light mesons. Utilizing chiral quark model computations and lattice QCD results for the spectrum of mesons composed by a static antiquark and a light quark, we explore chiral symmetry restoration in the spectrum and the quark running mass m(k…
I discuss the possible effects of a finite density of localised near-zero Dirac modes in the chiral limit of gauge theories with $N_f$ degenerate fermions. I focus in particular on the fate of the massless quasi-particle excitations predicted by the finite-temperature version of Goldstone's theorem, for which I provide an alternative and generalised proof based on a Euclidean ${\rm SU}(N_f)_A$ Ward-Takahashi identity. I show that localised near-zero modes can lead to a divergent pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar correlator that modifies this identity in the chiral limit. As a consequence, massless qua…
