We give blueprints of the Schwinger-DeWitt technique for the covariant curvature expansion of quantum effective action for the DGP type models in curved spacetime.
On Convergence of the Schwinger - DeWitt Expansion
We propose to slightly generalize the DeWitt-Schwinger adiabatic renormalization subtractions in curved space to include an arbitrary renormalization mass scale $μ$. The new predicted running for the gravitational couplings are fully consistent with decoupling of heavy massive fields. This is a somewhat improvement with respect to the more standard treatment of minimal (DeWitt-Schwinger) subtractions via dimensional regularization. We also show how the vacuum metamorphosis model emerges from the running couplings.
Generalized Heat Kernel Coefficients for a New Asymptotic Expansion
We develop the calculation of the divergent part of one-loop covariant effective action for scalar fields minimally and non-minimally coupled to gravity using the generalized Schwinger-DeWitt technique. We derive the field-space metric using Vilkovisky's prescription and obtain new terms in the one-loop corrections which are absent in past literature with trivial choices of field-space metric. We further calculate the covariant versions of past results, obtained using the standard approach, by applying Barvinsky and Vilkovisky's extension to the ordinary Schwinger-DeWitt approach. For complete…
It is shown that quantum one-loop potentials of the bulk fields in the Randall and Sundrum (RS) model may be immediately expressed in integrals with use of Barvinsky-Nesterov or equivalently Gelfand-Yaglom methods of calculation of quantum determinants. Simple expression is obtained for the UV-finite difference of one-loop quantum energies for two arbitrary values of parameter of the double-trace asymptotic boundary condition in one-brane and two-brane RS-models. Compact formula for Schwinger-DeWitt expansion gives values of induced Planck mass and induced gauge coupling constant in transverse…

We build a systematic calculational method for the covariant expansion of the two-point heat kernel $\hat K(τ|x,x')$ for generic minimal and non-minimal differential operators of any order. This is the expansion in powers of dimensional background field objects -- the coefficients of the operator and the corresponding spacetime and vector bundle curvatures, suitable in renormalization and effective field theory applications. For minimal operators whose principal symbol is given by an arbitrary power of the covariant Laplacian $(-\Box)^M$, $M>1$, this result generalizes the well-known Schwinger…
