In this paper, firstly we show that the entropy constants of the number of independent sets on certain plane lattices are the same as the entropy constants of the corresponding cylindrical and toroidal lattices. Secondly, we consider three more complex lattices which can not be handled by a single transfer matrix as in the plane quadratic lattice case. By introducing the concept of transfer multiplicity, we obtain the lower and upper bounds of the entropy constants of crossed quadratic lattice, generalized aztec diamond lattice and 8-8-4 lattice.
We introduce a flexible approach for the enumeration of the down-sets of a finite poset and test it with the calculation of the Dedekind numbers $b(5) = 7581$ and $b(6) = 7828354$. For the calculation of $b(5)$, we develop two methods of which the first one (without pre-calculations) requires simple evaluation of 80 posets and the second one (with pre-calculations) of 34 posets. The calculation of $b(6)$ (with pre-calculations) is done by evaluating 245 posets.
In [M. M. Kanté, V. Limouzy, A. Mary, and L. Nourine. On the enumeration of minimal dominating sets and related notions. SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, 28(4):1916-1929, 2014] the authors give an $O(n+m)$ delay algorithm based on neighborhood inclusions for the enumeration of minimal dominating sets in split and $P_6$-free chordal graphs. In this paper, we investigate generalizations of this technique to $P_k$-free chordal graphs for larger integers $k$. In particular, we give $O(n+m)$ and $O(n^3\cdot m)$ delays algorithms in the classes of $P_7$-free and $P_8$-free chordal graphs. As fo…

Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple graph. A dominating set of $G$ is a subset $D\subseteq V$ such that every vertex not in $D$ is adjacent to at least one vertex in $D$. The cardinality of a smallest dominating set of $G$, denoted by $γ(G)$, is the domination number of $G$. A dominating set $D$ is an accurate dominating set of $G$, if no $|D|$-element subset of $V\setminus D$ is a dominating set of $G$. The accurate domination number, $γ_a(G)$, is the cardinality of a smallest accurate dominating set $D$. In this paper, after presenting preliminaries, we count the number of accurate dominating sets of …
A Generalization of Polya's Enumeration Theorem or the Secret Life of Certain Index Sets
$J(χ) can be distinguished among all $ W $-orbits by a maximum property. The identity $的元素ch(F_x)= ch(U_x)$ of both characteristics is a consequence of S-MT. Polya's theorem can be obtained from the above identity by specialization $ x =1_W $, where $ 1_W $ is the unit character of $ W$.
Our main objective is the COMPRESSED enumeration (based on wildcards) of all minimal hitting sets of general hypergraphs. To the author's best knowledge the only previous attempt towards compression, due to Toda, is based on BDD's and much different from our techniques. Numerical experiments show that traditional one-by-one enumeration schemes cannot compete against compressed enumeration when the degree of compression is high. Our method works particularly well in these two cases: Either compressing all e x a c t hitting sets, or all m i n i m u m - cardinality hitting sets. In many aspects t…
The concept of graph compositions is related to several number theoretic concepts, including partitions of positive integers and the cardinality of the power set of finite sets. This paper examines graph compositions where the total number of components is restricted and illustrates a connection between graph compositions and Stirling numbers of the second kind.
In the study of supersymmetry in one dimension, various works enumerate sets of generators of garden algebras $GR(d,N)$ (and equivalently, valise Adinkras) for special cases $N = d = 4$ and $N = d = 8$, using group-theoretic methods and computer computation. We complement this work by enumerating the objects for arbitrary $N$ and $d$ via a formula in a streamlined manner.
In this paper we consider the enumeration of orientable and non-orientable chord diagrams. We show that this enumeration is encoded in appropriate expectation values of the $β$-deformed Gaussian and RNA matrix models. We evaluate these expectation values by means of the $β$-deformed topological recursion, and - independently - using properties of quantum curves. We show that both these methods provide efficient and systematic algorithms for counting of chord diagrams with a given genus, number of backbones and number of chords.
Problems from metric graph theory like Metric Dimension, Geodetic Set, and Strong Metric Dimension have recently had a strong impact in parameterized complexity by being the first known problems in NP to admit double-exponential lower bounds in the treewidth, and even in the vertex cover number for the latter, assuming the Exponential Time Hypothesis. We initiate the study of enumerating minimal solution sets for these problems and show that they are also of great interest in enumeration. Specifically, we show that enumerating minimal resolving sets in graphs and minimal geodetic sets in split…
The enumeration of minimal connected dominating sets is known to be notoriously hard for general graphs. Currently, it is only known that the sets can be enumerated slightly faster than $\mathcal{O}^{*}(2^n)$ and the algorithm is highly nontrivial. Moreover, it seems that it is hard to use bipartiteness as a structural aide when constructing enumeration algorithms. Hence, to the best of our knowledge, there is no known input-sensitive algorithm for enumerating minimal dominating sets, or one of their related sets, in bipartite graphs better than that of general graphs. In this paper, we provid…
The main theme of this dissertation is retooling methods to work for different situations. I have taken the method derived by O'Hara and simplified by Zeilberger to prove unimodality of $q$-binomials and tweaked it. This allows us to create many more families of polynomials for which unimodality is not, a priori, given. I analyze how many of the tweaks affect the resulting polynomial. Ayyer and Zeilberger proved a result about bounded lattice walks. I employ their generating function relation technique to analyze lattice walks with a general step set in bounded, semi-bounded, and unbounded pla…
The number of flats of a hyperplane arrangement is considered as a generalization of the Bell number and the Stirling number of the second kind. Robert Gill gave the exponential generating function of the number of flats of the extended Catalan arrangements, using species. In this article, we introduce the species of flats of the extended Catalan and Shi arrangements and they are given by iterated substitution of species of sets and lists. Moreover, we enumerate the flats of these arrangements in terms of infinite matrices.
In this paper we enumerate the number of $(k, r)$-Fuss-Schröder paths of type $λ$. Y. Park and S. Kim studied small Schröder paths with type $λ$. Generalizing the results to small $(k, r)$-Fuss-Schröder paths with type $λ$, we give a combinatorial interpretation for the number of small $(k, r)$-Fuss-Schröder paths of type $λ$ by using Chung-Feller style. We also give two sets of sparse noncrossing partitions of $[2(k + 1)n + 1]$ and $[2(k + 1)n + 2]$ which are in bijection with the set of all small and large, respectively, $(k, r)$-Fuss-Schröder paths of type $λ$.
Using a result of Gessel and Reutenauer, we find a simple formula for the number of cyclic permutations with a given descent set, by expressing it in terms of ordinary descent numbers (i.e., those counting all permutations with a given descent set). We then use this formula to show that, for almost all sets $I \subseteq [n-1]$, the fraction of size-$n$ permutations with descent set $I$ which are $n$-cycles is asymptotically $1/n$. As a special case, we recover a result of Stanley for alternating cycles. We also use our formula to count the cycles that do not have two consecutive descents.
In this article we will describe an algorithm to constructively enumerate non-isomorphic Union closed Sets and Moore sets. We confirm the number of isomorphism classes of Union closed Sets and Moore sets on n<=6 elements presented by other authors and give the number of isomorphism classes of Union closed Sets and Moore sets on 7 elements. Due to the enormous growth of the number of isomorphism classes it seems unlikely that constructive enumeration for 8 or more elements will be possible in the foreseeable future.
We prove constructively that the maximum possible number of minimal connected dominating sets in a connected undirected graph of order $n$ is in $Ω(1.489^n)$. This improves the previously known lower bound of $Ω(1.4422^n)$ and reduces the gap between lower and upper bounds for input-sensitive enumeration of minimal connected dominating sets in general graphs as well as some special graph classes.
We prove an asymptotic formula for the number of $k$-uniform hypergraphs with a given degree sequence, for a wide range of parameters. In particular, we find a formula that is asymptotically equal to the number of $d$-regular $k$-uniform hypergraphs on $n$ vertices provided that $dn\le c\binom{n}{k}$ for a constant $c>0$, and $3 \leq k < n^C$ for any $C<1/9.$ Our results relate the degree sequence of a random $k$-uniform hypergraph to a simple model of nearly independent binomial random variables, thus extending the recent results for graphs due to the second and third author.
