We formulate a stochastic least-action principle for solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation, which formally reduces to Hamilton's principle for the incompressible Euler solutions in the case of zero viscosity. We use this principle to give a new derivation of a stochastic Kelvin Theorem for the Navier-Stokes equation, recently established by Constantin and Iyer, which shows that this stochastic conservation law arises from particle-relabelling symmetry of the action. We discuss issues of irreversibility, energy dissipation, and the inviscid limit of Navier-Stokes solutions in the framework of the stochastic variational principle. In particular, we discuss the connection of the stochastic Kelvin Theorem with our previous "martingale hypothesis" for fluid circulations in turbulent solutions of the incompressible Euler equations.
We study the regularity criteria for weak solutions to the $3D$ incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in terms of the geometry of vortex structures, taking into account the boundary effects. A boundary regularity theorem is proved on regular domains with a class of oblique derivative boundary conditions, providing that the vorticity of the fluid is coherently aligned. In particular, we establish the boundary regularity on round balls, half-spaces and right circular cylindrical ducts, subject to the classical Navier and kinematic boundary conditions.
We prove some criteria for the convergence of weak solutions of the 2D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with Navier slip boundary conditions to a strong solution of incompressible Euler. The slip rate depends on a power of the Reynolds number, and it is increasingly apparent that the power 1 may be critical for L^2 convergence, as hinted at in [hal-01093331].
We consider the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations under the following $2+\frac{1}{2}$-dimensional situation: vertical vortex blob (quasi-streamwise vortices) being stretched by two-dimensional shear flow. We prove enhanced dissipation induced by such quasi-streamwise vortices.
We consider the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations under the following $2+\frac{1}{2}$-dimensional situation: small-scale horizontal vortex blob being stretched by large-scale, anti-parallel pairs of vertical vortex tubes. We prove anomalous dissipation induced by such vortex-stretching.
This paper introduces an infinite linear hierarchy for the homogeneous, incompressible three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation. The Cauchy problem of the hierarchy with a factorized divergence-free initial datum is shown to be equivalent to that of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation in $\mathcal{H}^1.$ This allows us to present an explicit formula for solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation under consideration. The obtained formula is an expansion in terms of binary trees encoding the collision histories of the "particles" in a concise form. Precisely, each term in the s…
In this paper we focus on the Cauchy problem for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation with a rough external force. If the given rough external force is small, we prove the local-in-time existence of this system for any initial data belonging to the critical Besov space $\dot{B}_{p,p}^{-1+\frac{3}{p}}$, where $3<p<\infty$. Moreover, We show the long-time behavior of the priori global solutins constructed by us. Also, we give three kinds of uniqueness results of the forced Navier-Stokes equations.
In this paper, we continue the discussion as done in \cite{CTZ15} on turbulent channel flow described by the Navier-Stokes model and the Navier-Stokes-alpha model. We study the non-stationary solutions for the Navier-Stokes equations and Navier-Stokes-$α$ model having particular function forms. In particular, the term of sum of pressure and potential can be shown to be harmonic in the space variable.
In a series of papers (see \cite{CDT02} and the pertinent references therein) the 3D Navier-Stokes-$α$ model were shown to be a useful complement to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations; and in particular, to be a good Reynolds version of the latter equations. In this work, we introduce a simple Reynolds averaging which, due to the wall roughness, transforms the Navier-Stokes equations into the Navier-Stokes-$α$ model.
In this paper we prove a theorem of global time-extension for the local classical solution of Navier-Stokes's evolution problem in $\Real^n$ with $n\geqslant2$ for incompressible fluids subjected to external forces and regular initial conditions. This will be achieved by expressing the boundedness of the time derivative of the $L^\infty$ solution norm.
In this paper we introduce (I,J) similar method for incompressible two and three dimensional Euler equations and Navier-Stokes equations, obtain a series of explicit (I,J) similar solutions to the incompressible two dimensional Euler equations, they include all of twin wave solutions, some new singularity solutions, and some global smooth solutions with finite energy. We also discover that twin wave solution and affine solution to two dimensional incompressible Euler equations are respectively plane wave and constant vector. Finally, we supply some explicit piecewise smooth solutions to incomp…
We estimate the inertial force field in the 3d Euler/Navier-Stokes equation in function of |u|_\infty and |\nabla u |_\infty and provide an application to the well-posed problem
A Navier--Stokes system on a curve is discussed. The quotient equation for this system is found. The quotient is used to find some solutions of Navier--Stokes system. Using virial expansion of the Planck potential, we reduce the quotient equation to a series of systems of ordinary differential equations.
Analysis of the Navier-Stokes equations in the frames of the algebraic approach to systems of partial differential equations (formal theory of differential equations) is presented.
The Navier-Stokes-Voigt model of viscoelastic incompressible fluid has been recently proposed as a regularization of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for the purpose of direct numerical simulations. Besides the kinematic viscosity parameter, $ν>0$, this model possesses a regularizing parameter, $α> 0$, a given length scale parameter, so that $\frac{α^2}ν$ is the relaxation time of the viscoelastic fluid. In this work, we derive several statistical properties of the invariant measures associated with the solutions of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes-Voigt equations. Moreover, we…
This paper gives out the solution of divergent Navier-Stokes equations, and shows that in this case, under a physicalacceptable condition, the solution would be smooth .
