We consider unital simple inductive limits of generalized dimension drop C*-algebras They are so-called ASH-algebras and include all unital simple AH-algebras and all dimension drop $C^*$-algebras. Suppose that $A$ is one of these C*-algebras. We show that $A\otimes Q$ has tracial rank no more than one, where $Q$ is the rational UHF-algebra. As a consequence, we obtain the following classification result: Let $A$ and $B$ be two unital simple inductive limits of generalized dimension drop algebras with no dimension growth. Then $A\cong B$ if and only if they have the same Elliott invariant.
A classification is given of certain separable nuclear C*-algebras not necessarily of real rank zero, namely the class of simple C*-algebras which are inductive limits of continuous-trace C*-algebras whose building blocks have their spectrum homeomorphic to the interval [0,1] or to a finite disjoint union of closed intervals. In particular, a classification of those stably AI algebras which are inductive limits of hereditary sub-C*-algebras of interval algebras is obtained. Also, the range of the invariant is calculated.
We show that finitely generated subhomogeneous C*-algebras have finite decomposition rank. As a consequence, any separable ASH C*-algebra can be written as an inductive limit of subhomogeneous C*-algebras each of which has finite decomposition rank. It then follows from work of H. Lin and of the second named author that the class of simple unital ASH algebras which have real rank zero and absorb the Jiang-Su algebra tensorially satisfies the Elliott conjecture.
We introduce a class of recursive subhomogeneous algebras that we call diagonal subhomogeneous and we give a notion of diagonal maps between these algebras. We show that any simple limit of diagonal subhomogeneous algebras with diagonal maps has stable rank one. As an application we show that for any minimal homeomorphism of a compact Hausdorff space the associated crossed product has stable rank one.
In this paper, we introduce stable recursive subhomogeneous algebras (SRSHAs), which is analogous to recursive subhomogeneous algebras (RSHAs) introduced by N. C. Phillips in the studies of free minimal integer actions on compact metric spaces. The difference between the stable version and the none stable version is that the irreducible representations of SRSHAs are infinite dimensional, but the irreducible representations of the RSHAs are finite dimensional. While RSHAs play an important role in the study of free minimal integer actions on compact metric spaces, SRSHAs play an analogous role …
We introduce and characterize a particularly tractable class of unital type 1 C*-algebras with bounded dimension of irreducible representations. Algebras in this class are called recursive subhomogeneous algebras, and they have an inductive description (through iterated pullbacks) which allows one to carry over from algebras of the form C (X, M_n) many of the constructions relevant in the study of the stable rank and K-theory of simple direct limits of homogeneous C*-algebras. Our characterization implies in particular that if A is a separable C*-algebra whose irreducible representations all h…
Let $(X, Γ)$ be a free minimal dynamical system, where $X$ is a compact separable Hausdorff space and $Γ$ is a discrete amenable group. It is shown that, if $(X, Γ)$ has a version of Rokhlin property (uniform Rokhlin property) and if $\mathrm{C}(X)\rtimesΓ$ has a Cuntz comparison on open sets, then the comparison radius of the crossed product C*-algebra $\mathrm{C}(X) \rtimes Γ$ is at most half of the mean topological dimension of $(X, Γ)$. These two conditions are shown to be satisfied if $Γ= \mathbb Z$ or if $(X, Γ)$ is an extension of a free Cantor system and $Γ$ has subexponential growth. …
A $C^{*}$-algebra $A$ has ideal property if any ideal $I$ of $A$ is generated as a closed two sided ideal by the projections inside the ideal. Suppose that the limit $C^{*}$-algebra $A$ of inductive limit of direct sums of matrix algebras over spaces with uniformly bounded dimension has ideal property. In this paper, we will prove that $A$ can be written as an inductive limit of certain very special subhomogeneous algebras, namely, direct sum of dimension drop interval algebras and matrix algebras over 2-dimensional spaces with torsion $H^{2}$ groups.
We show that unital simple C*-algebras with tracial topological rank zero which are locally approximated by subhomogeneous C^-algebras can be classified by their ordered $K$-theory. We apply this classification result to show that certain simple crossed products are isomorphic if they have the same ordered $K$-theory. In particular, irrational higher dimensional non-commutative tori of the form $C({\mathbb T}^k)\times_θ{\mathbb Z}$ are in fact inductive limits of circle algebras.
Given a unital inductive limit of C*-algebras for which each C*-algebra of the inductive sequence comes equipped with a compact quantum metric of Rieffel, we produce sufficient conditions to build a compact quantum metric on the inductive limit from the quantum metrics on the inductive sequence by utilizing the completeness of the dual Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity of Latremoliere on compact quantum metric spaces. This allows us to place new quantum metrics on all unital AF algebras that extend our previous work with Latremoliere on unital AF algebras with faithful tracial state. As a consequen…
It is shown that a C*-algebra of the form C(X,U), where U is a UHF algebra, is not an inductive limit of subhomogeneous C*-algebras of topological dimension less than that of X. This is in sharp contrast to dimension-reduction phenomenon in (i) simple inductive limits of such algebras, where classification implies low-dimensional approximations, and (ii) when dimension is measured using decomposition rank, as the author and Winter proved that dr(C(X,U)) $\leq$ 2.
For unital AF algebras with faithful tracial states, we provide criteria for convergence in the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity. For any unital AF algebra, we introduce new Leibniz Lip-norms using quotient norms. Next, we show that any unital AF algebra is the limit of its defining inductive sequence of finite dimensional C*-algebras in quantum propinquity given any Lip-norm defined on the inductive sequence. We also establish sufficient conditions for when a *-isomorphism between two AF algebras produces a quantum isometry in the context of various Lip-norms.
We construct quantum metric structures on unital AF algebras with a faithful tracial state, and prove that for such metrics, AF algebras are limits of their defining inductive sequences of finite dimensional C*-algebras for the quantum propinquity. We then study the geometry, for the quantum propinquity, of three natural classes of AF algebras equipped with our quantum metrics: the UHF algebras, the Effros-Shen AF algebras associated with continued fraction expansions of irrationals, and the Cantor space, on which our construction recovers traditional ultrametrics. We also exhibit several comp…
We show that for a large class of C*-algebras $\mathcal{A}$, containing arbitrary direct limits of separable type I C*-algebras, the following statement holds: If $A\in \mathcal{A}$ and $B$ is a simple projectionless C*-algebra with trivial K-groups that can be written as a direct limit of a system of (nonunital) recursive subhomogeneous algebras with no dimension growth then the stable rank of $A\otimes B$ is one. As a consequence we show that if $A\in \mathcal A$ then the stable rank of $A\otimes\mathcal W$ is one. We also prove the following stronger result: If $A$ is separable C*-algebra t…
We introduce a topology on the ideal space of inductive limits of C*-algebras built by a topological inverse limit of the Fell topologies on the C*-algebras of the given inductive sequence and we produce conditions for when this topology agrees with the Fell topology of the inductive limit. With this topology, we impart criteria for when convergence of ideals of an AF algebra can provide convergence of quotients in the quantum Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity building off previous joint work with Latremoliere. These findings bestow a continuous map from a class of ideals of the Boca-Mundici AF alg…
We prove a compactness result for classes of actions of many small categories on quantum compact metric spaces by Lipschitz linear maps, for the topology of the covariant Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity. In particular, our result applies to actions of proper groups by Lipschitz isomorphisms on quantum compact spaces. Our result provides a first example of a structure which passes to the limit of quantum metric spaces for the propinquity, as well as a new method to construct group actions, including from non-locally compact groups seen as inductive limits of compact groups, on unital C*-algebras. …
We show that Bunce-Deddens algebras, which are AT-algebras, are also limits of circle algebras for Rieffel's quantum Gromov-Hausdorff distance, and moreover, form a continuous family indexed by the Baire space. To this end, we endow Bunce-Deddens algebras with a quantum metric structure, a step which requires that we reconcile the constructions of the Latremoliere's Gromov-Hausdorff propinquity and Rieffel's quantum Gromov-Hausdorff distance when working on order-unit quantum metric spaces. This work thus continues the study of the connection between inductive limits and metric limits.
An ATAI (or ATAF, respectively) algebra, introduced in [Jiang1] (or in [Fa] respectively) is an inductive limit $\lim\limits_{n\rightarrow\infty}(A_{n}=\bigoplus\limits_{i=1}A_{n}^{i},ϕ_{nm})$, where each $A_{n}^{i}$ is a simple separable nuclear TAI (or TAF) C*-algebra with UCT property. In [Jiang1], the second author classified all ATAI algebras by an invariant consisting orderd total K-theory and tracial state spaces of cut down algebras under an extra restriction that all element in $K_{1}(A)$ are torsion. In this paper, we remove this restriction, and obtained the classification for all A…
