In calculations of the hyperfine splitting in charmonium, the contributions of the disconnected diagrams is considered small and is typically ignored. We aim to estimate nonperturbatively the size of the resulting error, which could potentially affect the high precision calculations of the charmonium spectrum. Following our work on the effects of the disconnected diagrams in unquenched QCD presented at Lattice 2007, we study the same problem in the quenched case. On dynamical ensembles the disconnected charmonium propagators contain light modes which complicate the extraction of the signal at large distances. In the fully quenched case, where there are no such light modes, the interpretation of the signal is simplified. We present results from lattices with $a\approx 0.09$ fm and $a\approx 0.063$ fm.
The charmonium-nucleon interaction is studied by the time-dependent HAL QCD method. We use a larger lattice volume and the relativistic heavy quark action for charm quark to obtain less systematic errors than those in our previous study. As a result, the sizable J/$ψ$N hyperfine splitting is observed, indicating that the spin-spin interaction is important to understand this system quantitatively. No J/$ψ$N or $η_c$N bound state is observed below the thresholds as in the previous results.
We have performed the first $n_f = 2+1+1$ lattice QCD computations of the properties (masses and decay constants) of ground-state charmonium mesons. Our calculation uses the HISQ action to generate quark-line connected two-point correlation functions on MILC gluon field configurations that include $u/d$ quark masses going down to the physical point, tuning the $c$ quark mass from $M_{J/ψ}$ and including the effect of the $c$ quark's electric charge through quenched QED. We obtain $M_{J/ψ}-M_{η_c}$ (connected) = 120.3(1.1) MeV and interpret the difference with experiment as the impact on $M_{η_…
The properties of charmonium states are or will be intensively studied by the B-factories Belle II and BESIII, the LHCb and PANDA experiments and at a future Super-c-tau Factory. Precise lattice calculations provide valuable input and several results have been obtained by simulating up, down and strange quarks in the sea. We investigate the impact of a charm quark in the sea on the charmonium spectrum, the renormalization group invariant charm-quark mass and the scalar charm-quark content of charmonium. The latter is obtained by the direct computation of the mass-derivatives of the charmonium …
The $J/ψ$-nucleon interaction is studied by lattice QCD calculations. At the leading order of the derivative expansion, the interaction consists of four terms: the central, the spin-spin, and two types of tensor forces. We determine these spin-dependent forces quantitatively by using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. We find that the spin-spin force is the main cause of the hyperfine splitting between the $J=1/2$ and the $J=3/2$ states, while the two tensor forces have much smaller effects on the S-wave scattering processes.
We take a new approach to determine the scale parameter $r_0$, the physical masses of strange and charm quarks through a global fit which incorporates continuum extrapolation, chiral extrapolation and quark mass interpolation to the lattice data. The charmonium and charm-strange meson spectrum are calculated with overlap valence quarks on $2+1$-flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD Collaboration. We use the masses of $D_s$, $D_s^*$ and $J/ψ$ as inputs and obtain $m_c^{\overline{\rm MS}}(2\,{\rm GeV})=1.110(24)\,{\rm GeV}$, $m_s^{\overline{\rm MS}}(2\,{\…
We present high-precision results from lattice QCD for the mass splittings of the low-lying charmonium states. For the valence charm quark, the calculation uses Wilson-clover quarks in the Fermilab interpretation. The gauge-field ensembles are generated in the presence of up, down, and strange sea quarks, based on the improved staggered (asqtad) action, and gluon fields, based on the one-loop, tadpole-improved gauge action. We use five lattice spacings and two values of the light sea quark mass to extrapolate the results to the physical point. An enlarged set of interpolating operators is used…
We present the scale setting for a new set of gauge configurations generated with $N_f=3+1$ Wilson quarks with a non-perturbatively determined clover coefficient in a massive O($a$) improvement scheme. The three light quarks are degenerate, with the sum of their masses being equal to its value in nature and the charm quark has its physical mass. We use open boundary conditions in time direction to avoid the problem of topological freezing at small lattice spacings and twisted-mass reweighting for improved stability of the simulations. The decoupling of charm at low energy allows us to set the …
