We discuss the aspects of the little Higgs model with the $SU(4)_L \times U(1)_X$ electroweak gauge group as an alternative solution to the naturalness and fine-tuning issues. We introduce anomaly-free fermion spectra, and present their interactions with the physical gauge bosons. We also discuss some phenomenological implications of these fermions and the extra gauge bosons based on recent experimental results.
The little Higgs idea is a new way to solve the little hierarchy problem by protecting the Higgs mass from quadratically divergent one-loop corrections. In this talk I describe the phenomenology of one particular realization of the little Higgs idea: the "Littlest Higgs" model.
Little Higgs theory naturally predicts a light Higgs boson whose most important discovery channel at the LHC is the di-photon signal $pp\to h\to γγ$. In this work we perform a comparative study for this signal in some typical little Higgs models, namely the littlest Higgs model (LH), two littlest Higgs models with T-parity (named LHT-I and LHT-II) and the simplest little Higgs modes (SLH). We find that compared with the Standard Model prediction, the di-photon signal rate is always suppressed and the suppression extent can be quite different for different models. The suppression is mild ($\lsi…
We give a brief review of recent developments in non-supersymmetric models for electroweak symmetry breaking, including little Higgs, composite Higgs and Higgsless theories. The new ideas such as extra dimensions, AdS/CFT correspondence, dimension-deconstruction, and collective symmetry breaking provide us new tools to construct new models. They also allow some old ideas to be revived and implemented in these new models.
In this note we present a review of the little Higgs models that stabilize the electroweak by realizing the Standard Model Higgs as a pseudo-Goldstone boson.
This article reviews the Little Higgs models of electroweak symmetry breaking and their phenomenology. Little Higgs models incorporate a light composite Higgs boson and remain perturbative until a scale of order 10 TeV, as required by precision electroweak data. The collective symmetry breaking mechanism, which forms the basis of Little Higgs models, is introduced. An explicit, fully realistic implementation of this mechanism, the Littlest Higgs model, is then discussed in some detail. Several other implementations, including simple group models and models with T parity, are also reviewed. Pre…
Little Higgs theories are a fascinating new idea to solve the little hierarchy problem by stabilizing the Higgs mass against one-loop quadratically divergent radiative corrections. In this talk I give a brief overview of the idea, focusing mainly on the littlest Higgs model, and present a sampling of the electroweak precision constraints.
Little Higgs models predict new gauge bosons, fermions and scalars at the TeV scale that stabilize the Higgs mass against quadratically divergent one-loop radiative corrections. We categorize the many little Higgs models into two classes based on the structure of the extended electroweak gauge group and examine the experimental signatures that identify the little Higgs mechanism in addition to those that identify the particular little Higgs model. We find that by examining the properties of the new heavy fermion(s) at the LHC, one can distinguish the structure of the top quark mass generation …
The little Higgs idea is an alternative to supersymmetry as a solution to the gauge hierarchy problem. In this note, I review various little Higgs models and their phenomenology with emphases on the precision electroweak constraints in these models.
We present a novel new method for incorporating dark matter into little Higgs models in a way that can be applied to many existing models without introducing T-parity, while simultaneously alleviating precision constraints arising from heavy gauge bosons. The low energy scalar potential of these dark little Higgs models is similar to, and can draw upon existing phenomenological studies of, inert doublet models. Furthermore, we apply this method to modify the littlest Higgs model to create the next to littlest Higgs model, and describe details of the dark matter candidate and its contribution t…
We present an ultra-violet extension of the "simplest little Higgs" model. The model marries the simplest little Higgs at low energies to two copies of the "littlest Higgs'' at higher energies. The result is a weakly coupled theory below 100 TeV with a naturally light Higgs. The higher cutoff suppresses the contributions of strongly coupled dynamics to dangerous operators such as those which induce flavor changing neutral currents and CP violation. We briefly survey the distinctive phenomenology of the model.
Any extension of the standard model that aims to describe TeV-scale physics without fine-tuning must have a radiatively-stable Higgs potential. In little Higgs theories, radiative stability is achieved through so-called collective symmetry breaking. In this letter, we focus on the necessary conditions for a little Higgs to have a collective Higgs quartic coupling. In one-Higgs doublet models, a collective quartic requires an electroweak triplet scalar. In two-Higgs doublet models, a collective quartic requires a triplet or singlet scalar. As a corollary of this study, we show that some little …
The production of single and doubly charged Higgs bosons associated with standard model gauge boson $Z_L$ in $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders are examined. The sensitivity of these processes on the littlest Higgs model parameters in the range of compatibility with electroweak precision observables are analyzed. The possibility of detecting lepton flavor violation processes are also discussed.
Little Higgs theories are an exciting new possibility for physics at TeV energies. In the Standard Model the Higgs mass suffers from an instability under radiative corrections. This ``hierarchy problem'' motivates much of current physics beyond the Standard Model research. Little Higgs theories offer a new and very promising solution to this problem in which the Higgs is naturally light as a result of non-linearly realized symmetries. This article reviews some of the underlying ideas and gives a pedagogical introduction to the Little Higgs. The examples provided are taken from the paper "A Lit…
Little Higgs models may provide a viable alternative to supersymmetry as an extension of the Standard Model. After the introduction of a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, dubbed T-parity into Little Higgs models they also contain a promising dark matter candidate. We investigate a heavy neutrino as a dark matter candidate in the Simplest Little Higgs with T-parity (SLHT) model. First we calculate relic density constraints on the parameter space of the model and then discuss collider signatures for the SLHT dark matter.
We calculate the two body Higgs boson decays in the framework of the littlest Higgs model. The decay $H \to γZ$ is computed at one loop level and, using previous results, we evaluate the branching fractions in the framework of the littlest Higgs model. A wide range of the space parameter of the model is considered and possible deviations from the standard model are explored.
Loops of the scalar particles present in Little Higgs models generate radiatively scalar operators that have been overlooked before in Little Higgs analyses. We compute them using a technique, recently proposed to deal with scalar fluctuations in non-linear sigma models, that greatly simplifies the calculation. In particular models some of these operators are not induced by loops of gauge bosons or fermions, are consistent with the Little Higgs symmetries that protect the Higgs boson mass, and must also be included in the Lagrangian. In general, scalar loops multiplicatively renormalize the tr…
We analyse the consequences of the little Higgs model for double Higgs boson production at the LHC and for the partial decay width of the Higgs into two photons. In particular, we study the sensitivity of these processes in terms of the parameters of the model. We find that the little Higgs model contributions are proportional to (v/f)^4 and hence do not change significantly either single or double Higgs production at hadron colliders or the partial decay width of the Higgs into two photons as compared to the standard model predictions. However, when interference and mixing effects are properl…
In this write-up I summarize the main points of our recent work, in which we showed that the large flavor QCD is regarded as a dynamical origin of little Higgs, and that the mass of such a little Higgs becomes actually very small.
Both Little Higgs and Higgsless Models provide new windows into the mysteries of electroweak symmetry breaking and lead to testable predictions at present and future colliders. Here we give a quick overview of three papers submitted to the ICHEP2004 meeting on these subjects.
The little Higgs model provides an alternative to traditional candidates for new physics at the TeV scale. The new heavy gauge bosons predicted by this model should be observable at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We discuss how the LHC experiments could test the little Higgs model by studying the production and decay of these particles.
The colored SU(2)-singlet heavy T-quark is one of the most crucial ingredients in little Higgs models, which is introduced to cancel the largest contribution of the SM top quark to the Higgs boson mass at one-loop level. In two representative little Higgs models, the littlest Higgs model and the SU(3) simplest Higgs model, we comprehensively study the single heavy T-quark production at Large Hadron Collider (LHC). After presenting the possibility of relatively light (~500 GeV) T-quark in the simplest little Higgs model, we consider all the relevant processes, the 2->2 process of qb->q'T, the 2…
Little Higgs models may provide a solution to the gauge hierarchy problem in the mass of the Higgs boson. In this framework the Higgs boson is arisen as the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone (PNG) boson. We show that the lepton triplet introduced in a little Higgs model explains a small mass parameter in the double see-saw mechanism for neutrino masses, and it can also gives an explanation for the axion like particle recently reported by PVLAS collaboration.
Higgs boson productions at the LHC will serve as a sensitive probe of various little Higgs models. In this work we comparatively study two littlest Higgs models with different T-parity constructions through examining their effects in three production processes of the Higgs boson at the LHC, namely the productions of a single Higgs, a Higgs-pair, as well as a Higgs boson associated with a pair of top and anti-top quarks. The two models are characterized by predicting a top partner canceling the Higgs mass quadratic divergence contributed by the top quark with even and odd T-parity, respectively…
In this note we examine the constraints imposed by muon anomalous magnetic moment ($(g-2)_μ$) and $μ^- \to e^+ e^- e^-$ on lepton number violating (LNV) couplings of the triplet Higgs in Little Higgs (LH) model.
We discuss the properties of light pseudoscalar particles, the so-called pseudoaxions, within Little Higgs models, focusing on their phenomenology at the ILC. We especially discuss a method of how to distinguish between the two basic classes of Little Higgs models, the product and simple group models, by a specific production channel and decay mode. These are strictly forbidden in the product group models.
We show that the SU(3) little Higgs model has a region of parameter space in which electroweak symmetry breaking is natural and in which corrections to precision electroweak observables are sufficiently small. The model is anomaly free, generates a Higgs mass near 150 GeV, and predicts new gauge bosons and fermions at 1 TeV.
We construct an extension of the MSSM in which scalar superpartners can naturally be as heavy as 1 TeV. In the MSSM, the most significant fine tuning stems from the logarithmically enhanced top-stop loop contribution to the soft Higgs mass. We combine supersymmetry with the "simplest little Higgs" to render this loop finite, thereby removing the large logarithm even in models in which superpartner masses are generated at high scales such as in supergravity. Our model predicts an extended Higgs sector, superpartner masses near a TeV and little Higgs partners at a few TeV.
We analyze double Higgs boson production at the LHC in the context of Little Higgs models. In double Higgs production, the diagrams involved are directly related to those that cause the cancellation of the quadratic divergence of the Higgs self-energy, so this mode provides a robust prediction for this class of models. We find that in extensions of this model with the inclusion of a so-called T-parity, there is a significant enhancement in the cross sections as compared to the Standard Model.
I review a technique to embed vector mesons in the chiral Lagrangian of QCD, and apply it to more general coset spaces, relevant for Little Higgs models. The implementation of heavy spin-1 fields in Little Higgs models allows for a better control over previously non calculable, ultra-violate sensitive quantities, such as the Higgs couplings. A relevant application is the study of vacuum alignment in the SU(6)/Sp(6) models.
We analyze double Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider in the context of Little Higgs models. In double Higgs production, the diagrams involved are directly related to those that cause the cancellation of the quadratic divergence of the Higgs self-energy, providing a robust prediction for this class of models. We find that in extensions of this model with the inclusion of a so-called T-parity, there is a significant enhancement in the cross sections as compared to the Standard Model.
In this work, we show that the apparent symmetry non-restoration at high temperature for Little Higgs (LH), is not intrinsic feature for LH. We show that when including such dominant thermal corrections, the EW symmetry gets restored.
We compute the one loop new physics effects to the CP even triple neutral gauge boson vertices $γ^\star γZ$, $γ^\star Z \,Z$, $Z^\star \,Z\,γ$ and $Z^\star\,Z\,Z$ in the context of Little Higgs models. In addition, we re-examine the MSSM contribution at the chosen point of SPS1a' and compare with the SM and Little Higgs models.
`Little Higgs' models, in which the Higgs particle arises as a pseudo-Goldstone boson, have a natural mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking associated with the large value of the top quark Yukawa coupling. The mechanism typically involves a new heavy SU(2)_{L} singlet top quark, T. We discuss the relationship of the Higgs boson and the two top quarks. We suggest experimental tests of the Little Higgs mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking using the production and decay of the T at the Large Hadron Collider.
In this talk I will give a brief introduction to Little Higgs models in general, including an overview of all models in existence thus far. I then review some of the generic constraints on these models from electroweak precision measurements.
Recently a new class of models has emerged that addresses the naturalness problem of a light Higgs boson. In these ''little Higgs'' models, the Standard Model Higgs boson is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of an approximate global symmetry. The Higgs boson acquires mass radiatively only through ''collective breaking'' of the global symmetry, so that more than one interaction is required to give the Higgs a mass. This protects the Higgs mass from receiving quadratically divergent radiative corrections at one-loop. These models contain new vector bosons, fermions and scalars at the TeV scale that…
Little Higgs models have an enlarged global symmetry which makes the Higgs boson a pseudo-Goldstone boson. This symmetry typically contains spontaneously broken U(1) subgroups which provide light electroweak-singlet pseudoscalars. Unless such particles are absorbed as the longitudinal component of $Z'$ states, they appear as pseudoscalars in the physical spectrum at the electroweak scale. We outline their significant impact on Little Higgs phenomenology and analyze a few possible signatures at the LHC and other future colliders in detail. In particular, their presence significantly affects the…
Recently there has been renewed interest in the possibility that the Higgs particle of the Standard Model is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson. This development was spurred by the observation that if certain global symmetries are broken only by the interplay between two or more coupling constants, then the Higgs mass-squared is free from quadratic divergences at one loop. This "collective symmetry" breaking is the essential ingredient in little Higgs theories, which are weakly coupled extensions of the Standard Model with little or no fine tuning, describing physics up to an energy scale ~10 TeV.…
An alternate solution of hierarchy problem in the Standard Model namely, the Little Higgs model, has been proposed lately. In this work $B_d^0-\bar{B_d^0}$ mass difference in the framework of the Little Higgs model is evaluated. The experimental limits on the mass difference is shown to provide meaningful constraints on the parameter space of the model.
The little Higgs mechanism provides an alternative solution to the hierarchy problem, arguably fitting better into the phenomenological hint of the "little hierarchy" which may cause some fine-tuning for the case of supersymmetry. We discuss an aspect of little Higgs physics lacking proper attention -- the construction of an interesting and consistent chiral fermionic sector and its phenomenological implications. At least for the kind of example models to be discussed, the gauge and top sector structure of a model largely dictates, through gauge anomaly cancellation conditions, a specific chir…
In this letter, we show that the electroweak symmetry is restored at high temperature for Little Higgs (LH), when including dominant higher order thermal corrections, that are consequence of the non-linear nature of the scalar sector. This leads us to suggest that the LH requires a UV completion above the scale $Λ\lesssim f$.
Motivated by the recent precision measurements of the W boson mass and top quark mass, we test the Littlest Higgs model by confronting the prediction of M_W with the current and prospective measurements of M_W and M_t as well as through the correlation among M_W, M_t and Higgs mass. We argue that the current values and accuracy of M_W and M_t measurements tend to favor the Littlest Higgs model over the standard model, although the most recent electroweak data may appear to be consistent with the standard model prediction. In this analysis, the upper bound on the global SU(5) symmetry breaking …
In the little higgs scenario, several coupling constants are related to each other to guarantee the stability of the higgs boson mass at one-loop level. This relation is called the little higgs mechanism. We discuss how accurately the relation can be tested at future $e^+e^-$ colliders, with especially focusing on the top sector of the scenario using a method of effective lagrangian. In order to test the mechanism, it is important to measure the Yukawa coupling of the top partner. Higgs associated and threshold productions of the top partner are found to be the best processes for this purpose.
We study the stability of the effective higgs potential in the split supersymmetry and Little Higgs models. In particular, we study the effects of higher dimensional operators in the effective potential on the higgs mass predictions. We find that the size and sign of the higher dimensional operators can significantly change the higgs mass required to maintain vacuum stability in Split Susy models. In the Little Higgs models the effects of higher dimensional operators can be large because of a relatively lower cut-off scale. Working with a specific model we find that a contribution from the hig…
We investigate a variation of the Simplest Little Higgs (SLH) model that is invariant under a discrete $\CZ_2$ symmetry. Our motivation for imposing this symmetry is the two dark matter candidates it implies, a scalar $η$ and a heavy neutrino. We examine the viability of these two candidates using the standard relic abundance calculation. Direct detection prospects are also discussed.
Pseudoscalar and charged Higgs bosons production in the processes $μ^+ μ^-\to P^0_i Z^0$, $μ^+μ^- \to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}$ within the models with several Higgs doublets and singlets is considered.
In Little Higgs models a collective symmetry prevents the higgs from acquiring a quadratically divergent mass at one loop. We have previously shown that the couplings in the Littlest Higgs model introduced to give the top quark a mass do not naturally respect the collective symmetry. We extend our previous work showing that the problem is generic: it arises from the fact that the would be collective symmetry of any one top quark mass term is broken by gauge interactions.
Little Higgs models with T-parity have a new source of lepton flavour violation. In this paper we consider the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon \gmtwo and the lepton flavour violating decays \mutoeg and \tautomug in Little Higgs model with T-parity \cite{Goyal:2006vq}. Our results shows that present experimental constraints of \mutoeg is much more useful to constrain the new sources of flavour violation which are present in T-parity models.
Little Higgs models represent an alternative to Supersymmetry as a solution to the Hierarchy Problem. After introducing the main physical ideas of these models, we present the fine-tuning associated to the electroweak breaking in Little Higgs scenarios. Taking into account the most general properties of this scenarios and focusing on two representative ``Little Higgs'' models, we find that the fine-tuning is much higher than suggested by the rough estimates usually made. The main sources that increase the fine-tuning in these models are identified, then they can be taken into account in order …
We calculate the partial widths of the light Higgs boson in the Littlest Higgs model. The loop-induced Higgs coupling to photon pairs, which is especially sensitive to effects of the new TeV-scale particles running in the loop, can be probed with high precision at a photon collider in the process gamma gamma --> H --> b bbar. Using the parameters of the Littlest Higgs model measured at the LHC one can calculate a prediction for this process, which will serve as a test of the model and as a probe for a strongly-coupled UV completion at the 10 TeV scale.
A new method of solving the hierarchy problem in the SM has been proposed. This method leads to the so-called "Little Higgs" models. The ATLAS experiment at LHC has undertaken studies of the new particles predicted by these model: a heavy top quark, heavy gauge bosons and additional Higgs bosons. Simulations of their decays have been carried out. The sensitivity of the ATLAS experiment to discover these new particles is discussed.
Little Higgs models are an interesting extension of the Standard Model at the TeV scale. They provide a simple and attractive mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. We review one of the simplest models of this class, the Littlest Higgs model, and its extension with T parity. The model with T parity satisfies precision electroweak constraints without fine-tuning, contains an attractive dark matter candidate, and leads to interesting phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
We study Higgs boson production and decay in a certain class of Little Higgs models with T-parity in which some T-parity partners of the Standard Model (SM) fermions gain their masses through Yukawa-type couplings. We find that the Higgs boson production cross section of a 120 GeV Higgs boson at the CERN LHC via gg fusion process at one-loop level could be reduced by about 45%, 35% and 20%, as compared to its SM prediction, for a relatively low new particle mass scale f = 600, 700 and 1000 GeV, respectively. On the other hand, the weak boson fusion cross section is close to the SM value. Furth…
We study the shifts in the gauge couplings of the top quark induced in the Littlest Higgs model with and without T parity. We find that the ILC will be able to observe the shifts throughout the natural range of model parameters.
In the framework of the simplest little Higgs model (SLHM), we study the production of a pair of neutral CP-even Higgs bosons at the LHC. First, we examine the production rate and find that it can be significantly larger than the SM prediction. Then we investigate the decays of the Higgs-pair and find that for a low Higgs mass their dominant decay mode is hh->ηηηη(ηis a CP-odd scalar) while hh->b\bar{b}ηηand hh->ηηWW may also have sizable ratios. Finally, we comparatively study the rates of pp-> hh -> b\bar{b}τ^+ τ^-, pp->hh->b\bar{b}γγ, and pp->hh->WWWW in the SLHM and the littlest Higgs mode…
Little Higgs theories are an attempt to address the little hierarchy problem, i.e., the tension between the naturalness of the electroweak scale and the precision measurements showing no evidence for new physics up to 5-10 TeV. In little Higgs theories, the Higgs mass-squareds are protected to the one-loop order from the quadratic divergence. This allows the cutoff to be raised up to \~10 TeV, beyond the scales probed by the precision data. However, strong constraints can still arise from the contributions of the new TeV scale particles and hence re-introduces the fine-tuning problem. In this …
We examine the effects of the extended gauge sector of the Littlest Higgs model in high energy e+e- collisions. We find that the search reach in e+e- -> f fbar at a 500 GeV center-of-mass energy International Linear Collider covers essentially the entire parameter region where the Littlest Higgs model is relevant to the gauge hierarchy problem. In addition, we show that this channel provides an accurate determination of the fundamental model parameters, to the precision of a few percent, provided that the LHC measures the mass of the heavy neutral gauge field. Additionally, we show that the co…
Theoretical overview on phenomenology of Higgs boson and SUSY Higgs boson at a future linear collider experiment is given as a Higgs and SUSY Higgs working group summary report for LCWS 2000.
We discuss possible searches for the new particles predicted by Little Higgs Models at the LHC. By using a simulation of the ATLAS detector, we demonstrate how the predicted quark, gauge bosons and additional Higgs bosons can be found and estimate the mass range over which their properties can be constrained.
We explore the possibility of distinguishing the SM-like MSSM Higgs boson from the SM Higgs boson via Higgs boson pair production at future muon collider. We study the behavior of the production cross section in SM and MSSM with Higgs boson mass for various choices of MSSM parameters tan βand m\sub A. We observe that at fixed CM energy, in the SM, the total cross section increases with the increase in Higgs boson mass whereas this trend is reversed for the MSSM case. The changes that occur for the MSSM case in comparison to the SM predictions are quantified in terms of the relative percentage …
The Higgs boson production processes $e^{+}e^{-}\to ZH$, $e^{+}e^{-}\to \bar{ν_{e}}ν_{e}H$, and $e^{+}e^{-}\to t\bar{t}H$ are very important for studying Higgs boson properties and further testing new physics beyond the standard model($SM$) in the high energy linear $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider($ILC$). We estimate the contributions of the littlest Higgs model with T-parity($LHT$ model) to these processes and find that the $LHT$ model can generate significantly corrections to the production cross sections of these processes. We expect the possible signals of the $LHT$ model can be detected via these p…
