This document presents the results from our spectroscopic survey of Halpha emitters in galactic and SMC open clusters with the ESO Wide Field Imager in its slitless spectroscopic mode. First of all, for the galactic open cluster NGC6611, in which, the number and the nature of emission line stars is still the object of debates, we show that the number of true circumstellar emission line stars is small. Second, at low metallicity, typically in the Small Magellanic Cloud, B-type stars rotate faster than in the Milky Way and thus it is expected a larger number of Be stars. However, till now, search for Be stars was only performed in a very small number of open clusters in the Magellanic Clouds. Using the ESO/WFI in its slitless spectroscopic mode, we performed a Halpha survey of the Small Magellanic Cloud. 3 million low-resolution spectra centered on Halpha were obtained in the whole SMC. Here, we present the method to exploit the data and first results for 84 open clusters in the SMC about the ratios of Be stars to B stars.
At low metallicity, B-type stars show lower loss of mass and, therefore, angular momentum so that it is expected that there are more Be stars in the Magellanic Clouds than in the Milky Way. However, till now, searches for Be stars were only performed in a very small number of open clusters in the Magellanic Clouds. Using the ESO/WFI in its slitless spectroscopic mode, we performed a Halpha survey of the Large and Small Magellanic Cloud. Eight million low-resolution spectra centered on Halpha were obtained. For their automatic analysis, we developed the ALBUM code. Here, we present the observat…
We use narrowband imaging (FWHM = 70 A) to select a sample of emission line galaxies between 0.20 <~ z <~ 1.22 in two fields covering 0.5 sq. deg. We use spectroscopic follow-up to select a sub-sample of Halpha emitting galaxies at z ~ 0.24 and determine the Halpha luminosity function and star formation density at z ~ 0.24 for both of our fields. Corrections are made for imaging and spectroscopic incompleteness, extinction and interloper contamination on the basis of the spectroscopic data. When compared to each other, we find the field samples differ by Δα= 0.2 in faint end slope and Δ\log [ …
Omega Centauri is the most well studied Globular Cluster because of its numerous puzzling features. Intensive spectroscopic follow-up observing campaigns targeting stars at different positions on the color-magnitude diagram promises to clarify some of these peculiarities. To able to target cluster members reliably during spectroscopic surveys and both spatial and radial distributions in the cluster outskirts without including field stars, a high quality proper-motion catalog of omega Cen and membership probability determination are required. The only available wide field proper-motion catalog …
We have identified intracluster planetary nebulae in a Virgo cluster core field by imaging with the Subaru Suprime-Cam through two narrow band filters centered at the redshifted wavelengths of the [OIII] $λ=5007$ Åand the H$α$ $λ= 6563$ Ålines; broad-band images in V and R were acquired to check for emission in the adjacent continuum. Emission line objects in Virgo are then selected from the two-color diagram ([OIII] -- Halpha) vs. ([OIII] -- (V+R)), which is calibrated using PNe in M84 (Jacoby et al. 1990). Using both [OIII] and Halpha allows us to distinguish bona-fide planetary nebulae from…
We present the results of an Halpha near-infrared narrow-band survey searching for star-forming galaxies at redshift z=0.84. This work is an extension of our previous narrow-band studies in the optical at lower redshifts. After removal of stars and redshift interlopers (using spectroscopic and photometric redshifts), we build a complete sample of 165 Halpha emitters in the Extended Groth strip and GOODS-N fields with L(Halpha)>10^41 erg/s. We compute the Halpha luminosity function at z=0.84 after corrections for [NII] flux contamination, extinction, systematic errors, and incompleteness. Our s…
We present new high and low resolution spectroscopic and photometric data of nine members of the young association CMa R1. All the stars have circumstellar dust at some distance as could be expected from their association with reflection nebulosity. Four stars (HD 52721, HD 53367, LkHalpha 220 and LkHalpha 218) show Halpha emission and we argue that they are Herbig Be stars with discs. Our photometric and spectroscopic observations on these stars reveal new characteristics of their variability. We present first interpretations of the variability of HD 52721, HD 53367 and the two LkHalpha stars…
We present a photometric study of the Halpha emission in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) Survey galaxies. This work complements our previously-published spectroscopic data. We study the location of the star-forming knots, their intensity, concentration, and the relationship of these properties with those of the host galaxy. We also estimate that the amount of Halpha emission that arises from the diffuse ionized gas is about 15-30% of the total Halpha flux for a typical UCM galaxy. This percentage seems to be independent of the Hubble type. Conversely, we found that an `average' UCM…
Optical spectroscopic observations of GX 339-4 were carried out between 1998 May (X-ray high state) and 1999 May (X-ray low state) over 7 epochs. The equivalent width of Halpha increased during the high state then decreased during the low state. The equivalent width of HeII 4686 decreased over both states. The full-width half-maximum of Halpha, Hbeta, HeII 4686 and the Bowen Blend increased from 1998 to 1999 indicating that the emission line regions moved closer to the compact object. Hbeta shows a redshifted absorption feature at 4880 angstroms at all epochs. This line remains unidentified. A…
We present first results of a spectroscopic survey targeting K-selected galaxies at z=2.0-2.7 using the GNIRS instrument on Gemini-South. We obtained near-infrared spectra with a wavelength coverage of 1.0-2.5 micron for 26 K-bright galaxies (K<19.7) selected from the MUSYC survey using photometric redshifts. We successfully derived spectroscopic redshifts for all 26 galaxies using rest-frame optical emission lines or the redshifted Balmer/4000 Angstrom break. Twenty galaxies have spectroscopic redshifts in the range 2.0<z<2.7, for which bright emission lines like Halpha and [OIII] fall in atm…
The cross-correlation between the ROSAT all-sky survey (~150000 sources) and the Tycho mission (~1000000 stars) catalogs has selected about 14000 stellar X-ray sources (RasTyc sample, Guillout et al. 1999). About 200-300 stars have been spectroscopically observed at high resolution both in the Halpha and LiI lambda-6708 regions with Elodie and Aurelie spectrographs of the OHP (Observatoire de l'Haute Provence, France). The aim was to classify the RasTyc star sample in terms of age and chromospheric activity level and to detect eventual binary systems. Photometric and spectroscopic follow-up ob…
We report on the analysis of high-resolution optical spectra for 77 subdwarf B (sdB) stars from the ESO Supernova Ia Progenitor Survey. Effective temperature, surface gravity, and photospheric helium abundance are determined simultaneously by spectral line profile fitting of hydrogen and helium lines, and are found to be in agreement with previous studies of sdB stars. 24 objects show spectral signs of a cool companion, being either companion absorption lines or a flux contribution at Halpha. Five stars with relatively high luminosity show peculiar Halpha profiles, possibly indicating stellar …
About 10 candidate Halpha emitting galaxies at z = 2.2 have been detected in a 2.1 um narrow band imaging survey covering an area of 100 sq. arcmin including the WFPC2 and STIS fields in the Hubble Deep Field South. Six of these have subsequently been confirmed spectroscopically using ISAAC at the ESO VLT. Star formation rates of the individual galaxies derived from their Halpha fluxes are 20-35 Msolar/yr, without any correction for extinction, whereas SFRs derived from their rest frame UV continuum fluxes are up to a factor of 4 lower - consistent with lower extinction to Halpha. Velocity dis…
An important question about Be stars is whether Be stars are born as Be stars or not. It is necessary to observe young clusters to answer this question. Observations of stars in NGC6611 and the star-formation region of Eagle Nebula have been carried out with the ESO-WFI in slitless spectroscopic mode and at the VLT-GIRAFFE. The targets for the GIRAFFE observations were pre-selected from the literature and our catalogue of emission-line stars (ELS) based on the WFI study. GIRAFFE observations allowed us to study accurately the population of the early-type stars with and without emission lines. …
We study the spectroscopic properties of a sample of 10^3 void galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and compare these with the properties of galaxies in higher density regions (wall galaxies). This sample of void galaxies covers the range of absolute magnitude from M_r=-13.5 to M_r=-22.5 in regions with density contrast delta < -0.6. In this paper we compare the equivalent widths of Halpha, [OII], [NII], Hbeta, and [OIII] of void and wall galaxies of similar luminosities and find that void galaxies have larger values, indicating that they are still forming stars at a high rate. A …
We present low-resolution optical spectra of each component of 10 T Tauri (TT) binary systems with separations ranging from 0.9" to 3.5" and located in the Taurus star-forming region. We derive the spectral type and Halpha equivalent width of each component. Complementing these results with those of Monin et al. (1999) yields a sample of 14 binaries and one triple system, with resolved spectroscopy and/or near-infrared photometry. We find that mixed binaries (CTTS+WTTS) are rare, representing only 15-20% of the systems in the separation range of 0.8" to 3''. Supplementing these results with th…
We present a spectroscopic analysis of nearly 8000 late-type dwarfs in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Using the Halpha emission line as an activity indicator, we investigate the fraction of active stars as a function of spectral type and find a peak near type M8, confirming previous results. In contrast to past findings, we find that not all M7-M8 stars are active. We show that this may be a selection effect of the distance distributions of previous samples, as the active stars appear to be concentrated near the Galactic Plane. We also examine the activity strength (ratio of the luminosity emit…
We have identified 38 candidates of intracluster planetary nebulae (ICPNe) in a $34'\times27'$ field in the core of the Virgo cluster based on the Suprime-Cam imaging through two narrow-band filters centered at the redshifted wavelengths of the [OIII]$λ=5007Å$ and the Halpha λ=6563Ålines. Broad-band images in V and R bands are used to check for any emissions in the adjacent continuum. We describe the method briefly and present the list of intracluster planetary nebulae candidates, together with their finding charts. The ICPN candidates show a highly inhomogeneous distribution, which may sugges…
Using a recently completed survey of faint (sub-mJy) radio sources, selected at 1.4 GHz, a dust-free estimate of the local star formation rate (SFR) is carried out. The sample is 50% complete to 0.2 mJy, with over 50% of the radio sources having optical counterparts brighter than R = 21.5. Spectroscopic observations of 249 optically identified radio sources have been made, using the 2-degree Field (2dF) facility at the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT). Redshifts and equivalent widths of several spectral features (e.g., Hαand [OII]3727) sensitive to star formation have been measured and used to…
The solar-age open cluster M67 (C0847+120, NGC2682) is a touchstone in studies of the old Galactic disk. Despite its outstanding role, the census of cluster membership for M67 at fainter magnitudes and their properties are not well-established. Using the proprietary and archival ESO data, we have obtained astrometric, photometric, and radial velocities of stars in a 34'x 33' field centered on the old open cluster M67. The two-epoch archival observations separated by 4 years and acquired with the Wide Field Imager at the 2.2m MPG/ESO telescope have been reduced with our new astrometric techniqu…
N66/NGC346 is the largest and brightest HII region in the Small Magellanic Cloud and contains at least one known supernova remnant SNR0057-7226. Optical emission from the remnant is overwhelmed by the bright photoionized emission from the nebula, but the remnant has been detected by way of far ultraviolet absorption lines. Here we present data from the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) satellite showing strong OVI and CIII emission from a position at the edge of SNR0057-7226. We also present high-resolution, long-slit Halpha spectra across N66 showing high- and low-velocity emissio…
We report on the spectroscopic and photometric analysis of possible optical counterparts to four X-ray sources in the Small Magellanic Cloud: AX J0049.4-7323, AX J0057.4-7325, RX J0058.2-7321 and RX J0101.1-7206. In the case of the last two, we suggest that the presence of strong Halpha emission from previously proposed optical candidates is definite confirmation that these are Be stars. Similarly, we detected strong Halpha emission from the optical source identified with RX J0049.7-7323 within the error circle for AX J0049.4-7323 and we conclude that these are one and the same object. We were…
We present the results of an extensive search for periodic and irregular variable pre-main sequence (PMS) stars in the young (2-4 Myr) open cluster NGC 2664, based on photometric monitoring using the Wide Field Imager (WFI) on the 2.2m telescope on La Silla (Chile). In total, about 10600 stars with I_c magnitudes between 9.8mag and 21mag have been monitored in our 34x33 arcmin field. Time series data were obtained in the I_c band in 44 nights between Dec. 2000 and March 2001; altogether we obtained 88 data points per star. Using two different time series analysis techniques (Scargle and CLEAN)…
We have compiled and studied photometric and spectroscopic data published in the literature of several star forming regions and young open clusters (Orion, Taurus, IC348, Sco-Cen Complex, Chamaeleon I, TW Hya association, sigma Orionis cluster, IC2391, alpha Per cluster and the Pleiades). Our goal was to seek the definition of a simple empirical criterion to classify stars or brown dwarfs which are accreting matter from a disk on the sole basis of low-resolution optical spectroscopic data. We show that using Halpha equivalent widths and spectral types we can statistically classify very young s…
Spectroscopic and imaging data of the peculiar galaxy Mkn 298 are presented in this paper. Narrow-band Halpha and broad-band R images are used to study the star formation rate in the galaxy and its morphology, which is typical of a merging system. Long-slit and integral field spectra are used to assess the kinematics of gas and stars, and the nature of the ionizing source at different distances from the nucleus. In particular, the nucleus of Mkn 298 is characterized by peculiar line ratios: [NII] 6583/Halpha is typical of HII-like regions, while [OI] 6300/Halpha could indicate the presence of …
The INT Photometric Halpha Survey of the Northern Galactic Plane (IPHAS) is a 1800 square degrees CCD survey of the northern Milky Way spanning the latitude range -5 < b < +5 (degrees) and reaching down to r' ~ 20 (10-sigma). It may increase the number of known northern emission line sources by an order of magnitude. Representative observations and an assessment of point-source data from IPHAS, now underway, are presented. The data obtained are Wide Field Camera images in Halpha narrow-band, and Sloan r' and i' broad-band, filters. We simulate IPHAS (r' - Halpha, r' - i') point-source colours …
We present the work in progress of a study based on photometric and spectroscopic observations of young Weak-line T Tauri and Post T Tauri stars just attiving on the Zero Age Main Sequence. This study is part of a project based on high-resolution spectra obtained with FOCES@CAHA (Spain) and SARG@TNG (Spain) and contemporaneous photometry performed at Catania (Italy) and Ege (Turkey) observatories. The main aim is to investigate the topology of magnetic active regions at photospheric and chromospheric levels in young single stars. Since our targets are slow rotators (vsini < 25 km/s), correspon…
We present VLT near-IR spectroscopic observations of three X-ray sources characterized by extremely high X-ray-to-optical ratios (X/O>40), extremely red colors (6.3<R-K<7.4, i.e. EROs) and bright infrared magnitudes (17.6<K<18.3). These objects are very faint in the optical, making their spectroscopic identification extremely challenging. Instead, our near-IR spectroscopic observations have been successful in identifying the redshift of two of them (z=2.08 and z=1.35), and tentatively even of the third one (z=2.13). When combined with the X-ray properties, our results clearly indicate that all…
Using the Wide Field Imager (WFI) at the ESO 2.2m telescope at La Silla and the CPAPIR camera at the CTIO 1.5m telescope at Cerro Tololo, we have performed an extensive, multiband photometric survey of the open cluster IC2391 (D~146pc, age~50Myr, solar metallicity). Here we present the results from our photometric survey and from a spectroscopic follow-up of the central part of the survey.
A photometric and spectroscopic analysis of 152 cool white dwarf stars is presented. The discovery of 7 new DA white dwarfs, 2 new DQ white dwarfs, 1 new magnetic white dwarf, and 3 weak magnetic white dwarf candidates, is reported, as well as 19 known or suspected double degenerates. The photometric energy distributions, the Halpha line profiles, and the trigonometric parallax measurements are combined and compared to model atmosphere calculations to determine the effective temperature and the radius of each object, and also to constrain the atmospheric composition. New evolutionary sequences…
We present preliminary results on a study based on contemporaneous photometric and spectroscopic observations of the young K0-1V star SAO 51891. We find that SAO 51891, a possible member of the Local Association, shows emission cores in the CaII H&K and fillings in the Halpha and CaII Infra-Red Triplet (IRT) lines. Moreover, we detect absorption lines of HeI-D3 and LiI and measure a v sini of 19 km/s. A clear rotational modulation of both the light and the photospheric temperature, due to photospheric spots, has been detected. The net Halpha chromospheric emission does not show any detectable …
The number and the nature of emission line stars in the young open cluster NGC6611 is still the object of debates. Due to the presence of a strong and variable nebulosity in the cluster, the number of emission line stars is highly depending on the technique and the resolution used for the observations. Thanks to observations with the ESO-WFI, in slitless spectroscopic mode, and with the VLT-GIRAFFE we have been able to disentangle the circumstellar and nebular emissions. We confirm the small number of true emission line objects and we precise their nature: mainly Herbig Be stars.
The young O-type star theta1 OriC, the brightest star of the Trapezium cluster in Orion, is one of only two known magnetic rotators among the O stars. However, not all spectroscopic variations of this star can be explained by the magnetic rotator model. We present results from a long-term monitoring to study these unexplained variations and to improve the stellar rotational period. We want to study long-term trends of the radial velocity of theta1 OriC, to search for unusual changes, to improve the established rotational period and to check for possible period changes. We combine a large set o…
SU Aurigae is a T Tauri star that was well monitored during the MUSICOS 96 multi-site campaign. We present the results of the spectroscopic analysis of the circumstellar environment of this star, particularly of the Halpha, Hbeta, Na I D and He I D3 line profiles. The signatures of modulated outflows and mass accretion events are analysed, as well as transient spectral features. We compute the cross-correlation function (CCF) of several pairs of (velocity bins in) spectral lines to better investigate the profiles' temporal variability. We found increasing time lags between the variability of H…
As part of our program to study stellar photospheric and chromospheric activity, we have examined several young solar type stars with activity levels intermediate between the Sun and the very active RS CVn binaries. We have analysed contemporaneous spectroscopic data obtained at Catania Observatory (Serra La Nave station, Mt. Etna) and photometric data acquired in the Stromgren bands with an automatic photometric telescope (APT) at Fairborn Observatory (Arizona, USA). Surface inhomogeneities have been detected from the rotational modulation of stellar brightness as well as from the modulation …
We present spectroscopic observations of 26 galaxies of type E and S0, based on their blue morphologies, located in voids by the study of Grogin & Geller (1999). Measurements of redshift, velocity dispersion, and four Lick line indices, Mgb, Fe5270, Fe5335, and Hbeta with their errors are given for all of these galaxies, along with Hbeta, [OIII], Halpha, and [NII] emission line strengths for a subset of these objects. These sources are brighter than M star for low density regions and tend to be bluer than their counterpart early-type objects in high density regions. Using the models of Thomas …
We report optical and infrared photometric and spectroscopic observations that identify the counterpart to the 358.6-s X-ray transient pulsar SAX J2103.5+4545 with a moderately reddened V=14.2 B0Ve star. This identification makes SAX J2103.5+4545 the Be/X-ray binary with the shortest orbital period known, Porb= 12.7 days. The amount of absorption to the system has been estimated to be Av=4.2+-0.3, which for such an early-type star implies a distance of about 6.5 kpc. The optical spectra reveal major and rapid changes in the strength and shape of the Halpha line. The Halpha line was initially o…
We present 348 X-ray emitting stars identified from correlating the Extended Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP), a serendipitous wide-area X-ray survey, with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We use morphological star/galaxy separation, an SDSS quasar catalog, an optical color-magnitude cut, and X-ray data quality tests to create our catalog, the ChaMP Extended Stellar Survey (ChESS), from a sample of 2121 matched ChaMP/SDSS sources. Our cuts retain 92% of the spectroscopically confirmed stars while excluding 99.6% of the 684 spectoscopically confirmed extragalactic sources. Fewer than…
The study of symbiotic stars is essential to understand important aspects of stellar evolution in interacting binaries. Their observed population in the Galaxy is however poorly known, and is one to three orders of magnitudes smaller than the predicted population size. IPHAS, the INT Photometric Halpha survey of the Northern Galactic plane, gives us the opportunity to make a systematic, complete search for symbiotic stars in a magnitude-limited volume, and discover a significant number of new systems. A method of selecting candidate symbiotic stars by combining IPHAS and near-IR (2MASS) colour…
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) first data release provides a database of 106000 unique galaxies in the main galaxy sample with measured spectra. A sample of star-forming (SF) galaxies are identified from among the 3079 of these having 1.4 GHz luminosities from FIRST, by using optical spectral diagnostics. Using 1.4 GHz luminosities as a reference star formation rate (SFR) estimator insensitive to obscuration effects, the SFRs derived from the measured SDSS Halpha, [OII] and u-band luminosities, as well as far-infrared luminosities from IRAS, are compared. It is established that straightfo…
By collecting optical and infrared photometry and low resolution spectroscopy, we have identified a large number of low mass stars and brown dwarf candidates belonging to the young cluster (~5 Myr) associated with the binary star lambda Orionis. The lowest mass object found is a M8.5 with an estimated mass of 0.02 Msun (~0.01 Msun for objects without spectroscopic confirmation). For those objects with spectroscopy, the measured strength of the Halpha emission line follows a distribution similar to other clusters with the same age range, with larger equivalent widths for cooler spectral types. …
We report the discovery of the optical/infra-red counterpart of the 12.3s transient X-ray pulsar GS0834-43. We re-analysed archival ROSAT PSPC observations of GS0834-43, obtaining two new refined positions, about 14" and 18" away from the previously published one, and a new spin period measurement. Within the new error circles we found a relatively faint (V=20.1) early type reddened star (V-R=2.24). The optical spectrum shows a strong Halpha emission line. The IR observations of the field confirm the presence of an IR excess for the Halpha-emitting star (K'=11.4, J-K'=1.94) which is likely sur…
AIMS. We present abundance analysis based on high resolution spectra of 105 isolated red giant branch (RGB) stars in the Galactic Globular Cluster NGC 6121 (M4). Our aim is to study its star population in the context of the multi-population phenomenon recently discovered to affect some Globular Clusters. METHODS. The data have been collected with FLAMES+UVES, at the ESO/VLT@UT2 telescope. Analysis was performed under LTE approximation for the following elements: O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni, Ba, and NLTE corrections were applied to Na and Mg. Spectroscopic data were coupled with high-…
We present imaging and spectroscopic observations with HST (WFPC2, ACS/HRC and STIS), VLT (FORS2) and Keck (HIRES) of the dM8 ultra-cool dwarf DENIS-P J185950.9-370632, located in the R-CrA region. The presence of lithium absorption at 670.8 nm and the strong Halpha emission indicate a young age and a sub-stellar mass. Our diffraction-limited images resolve a companion at the separation limit of HST/ACS (~0.06"). The 2.1 mJy flux in the LW2 filter (5.0-8.5 microns) of the Infrared Space Observatory (see 1999A&A...350..883) likely corresponds to an infrared excess, suggesting the presence of ci…
IC10 is the nearest starburst galaxy, as revealed both by its Halpha surface brightness and the large number of Wolf-Rayet stars (WRs) per unit area. The relative number of known WC- to WN-type WRs has been thought to be unusually high (~2), unexpected for IC10's metallicity. In this Letter we report the first results of a new and deeper survey for WRs in IC10. We sucessfully detected all of the spectroscopically known WRs, and based upon comparisons with a neighboring control field, estimate that the total number of WRs in IC10 is about 100. We present spectroscopic confirmation of two of our…
We report on the study of the population of B and Be stars in SMC young clusters, performed with the Wide Field Imager in slitless spectroscopic mode at ESO/T2.2m with a filter centered at Halpha. First, we explain the reduction methods we used and our selection of different types of objects. Second, we present results on the proportion of Be stars in SMC clusters, and we compare this proportion to the one observed in the Milky Way. Finally, we also present results on a statistical study of variability of Be stars with OGLE.
The K20 survey is a near infrared-selected, deep (Ks < 20) redshift survey targeting galaxies in two independent regions of the sky, the CDFS and the q0055-2659 field. The total Ks-selected sample includes 545 objects. Optical spectra for 525 of them have been obtained, providing 501 spectroscopic identifications (including 12 type-1 AGN and 45 stars). This paper describes the final K20 spectroscopic catalogue, along with the technique used to determine redshifts, measure the spectral features and characterize the spectra. The classification of the galaxy spectra has been performed according t…
Under the unified model for active galactic nuclei (AGNs), narrow-line (Type 2) AGNs are, in fact, broad-line (Type 1) AGNs but each with a heavily obscured accretion disk. We would therefore expect the optical continuum emission from Type 2 AGN to be composed mainly of stellar light and non-variable on the time-scales of months to years. In this work we probe the spectroscopic variability of galaxies and narrow-line AGNs using the multi-epoch data in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 6. The sample contains 18,435 sources for which there exist pairs of spectroscopic observations…
Aims: To investigate the spectra and the evolutionary stages of two peculiar emission-line stars: RJHA 49 and SS73 21. Methods: We used low and high resolution optical data. Line identifications and measurements were performed for several features in their spectra. Results: For each object, we have derived the extinction and the excitation temperature from a set of [Fe II] lines, and the electron density from [N II] lines. For RJHA 49, no detailed spectroscopic study was done so far. Regarding SS73 21, our low resolution spectrum have confirmed the main characteristics found in previous works.…
