We present theoretical and experimental preparations for an indirect search for new physics using the rare decay $\bar B_d \to \bar K^* l^+ l^-$. We design new observables with very small theoretical uncertainties and good experimental resolution.
These proceedings present the LHCb results on Majorana neutrino searches and direct production of exotic particles using the data collected during Run I of LHC. For the former, Majorana neutrinos are searched for both on-shell and off-shell in $B$ and $D$ decays to final states with two same-sign muons. For the latter, different types of new particles are studied profiting the unique coverage of LHCb with respect to other detectors.
We propose an inclusive search for dark photons $A'$ at the LHCb experiment based on both prompt and displaced di-muon resonances. Because the couplings of the dark photon are inherited from the photon via kinetic mixing, the dark photon $A' \to μ^+ μ^-$ rate can be directly inferred from the off-shell photon $γ^* \to μ^+ μ^-$ rate, making this a fully data-driven search. For Run 3 of the LHC, we estimate that LHCb will have sensitivity to large regions of the unexplored dark-photon parameter space, especially in the 210-520 MeV and 10-40 GeV mass ranges. This search leverages the excellent in…
Rare decays of heavy-flavoured particles provide an ideal laboratory to look for deviations from the Standard Model, and explore energy regimes beyond the LHC reach. Decays proceeding via electroweak penguin diagrams are excellent probes to search for New Physics, and $b \to s \ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ processes are particularly interesting since they give access to many observables such as branching fractions, asymmetries and angular observables. Recent results from the LHCb experiment are reviewed.
Our community has to apply {\em non}-perturbative QCD on different levels of flavor dynamics in strange, charm \& beauty hadrons and even for top quarks. We need {\em consistent} parameterization of the CKM matrix and describe weak decays of beauty hadrons with {\em many-body} final states. It is crucial to use the {\em Wilsonian} OPE as much as possible and discuss "duality" in the worlds of quarks and hadrons. The pole mass of heavy quarks is {\em not} well-defined on the {\em non}-perturbative level -- i.e., it is {\em not} Borel summable in total QCD. We need a novel team to combine the st…
We propose a search for dark photons $A^{\prime}$ at the LHCb experiment using the charm meson decay $D^*(2007)^0 \!\to D^0 A^{\prime}$. At nominal luminosity, $D^{*0} \!\to D^0 γ$ decays will be produced at about 700kHz within the LHCb acceptance, yielding over 5 trillion such decays during Run 3 of the LHC. Replacing the photon with a kinetically-mixed dark photon, LHCb is then sensitive to dark photons that decay as $A^{\prime}\!\to e^+e^-$. We pursue two search strategies in this paper. The displaced strategy takes advantage of the large Lorentz boost of the dark photon and the excellent v…
We study the potential of the LHCb experiment to discover, for the first time, the $μ^+μ^-$ true muonium bound state. We propose a search for the vector $1^3S_1$ state, $\mathcal{T\!M}$, which kinetically mixes with the photon and dominantly decays to $e^+e^-$. We demonstrate that a search for $η\to γ\mathcal{T\!M}$, $\mathcal{T\!M}\to e^+e^-$ in a displaced vertex can exceed a significance of 5 standard deviations assuming statistical uncertainties. We present two possible searches: an inclusive search for the $e^+e^-$ vertex, and an exclusive search which requires an additional photon and a …
A search is presented for a hidden-sector boson, $χ$, produced in the decay $B^0 \rightarrow K^* (892)^0 χ$, with $K^* (892)^0 \rightarrow K^+ π^-$ and $χ\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ . The search is performed using a $pp$-collision data sample collected at $\sqrt{s}=7$ and 8 TeV with the LHCb detector, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 and 2 fb$^{-1}$ respectively. No significant signal is observed in the mass range $214 \le m_χ\le 4350$ MeV, and upper limits are placed on the branching fraction product $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow K^* (892)^0 χ) \times \mathcal{B}(χ\rightarrow μ^+ μ^- )$ …
We consider $X(3872)$ and $Y(4140)$ as the vector tetraquark states of $X_c^0\equiv c\bar c u\bar u(d\bar d)$ and $c\bar c s\bar s$, respectively. By connecting $Λ_b\to X_c^0Λ$ to $B^-\to X_c^0 K^-$, we predict that the branching ratios of $Λ_b\to Λ(X(3872)^0\to) J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $Λ_b\to Λ(Y(4140)\to) J/ψϕ$ are $(5.2\pm 1.8)\times 10^{-6}$ and $(4.7\pm 2.6)\times 10^{-6}$, which are accessible to the experiments at the LHCb, respectively. The measurements of these $Λ_b$ modes would be the first experimental evidences for the $XYZ$ states in baryonic decays.
New results on the search for $B^0_s\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$ from LHCb
利用LHCb实验,使用在$\sqrt s=8$收集的1.1\,fb $^{-1}$数据,对稀有衰变$B^0_s\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$和$B^0\rightarrow μ^+μ^-$进行搜索,TeV $ and 1.0\,fb$ ^{-1} $ of data collected at $ \sqrt s=7 $\,TeV. An excess of $ B^0_s \rightarrow μ^+μ^- $ candidates with respect to the background expectations is observed with a statistical significance of 3.5 standard deviations. A branching fraction of $ { \cal BR}(B^0_s \rightarrow μ^+μ^-)=(3.2^{+1.5}_{-1.2})\times 10^{-9} $ is measured with an unbinned maximum likelihood fit. The measured branching fraction is in agreement with the expectation from the Standard Model. The observed n…
The recent results from the LHCb in the context of $(B^+ \rightarrow K^+ l l)$ decay and the CMS analysis in the context of right handed $W$-boson ($W_R$) search show a $2.6σ$ and a $2.8σ$ deviations from the Standard Model expectations respectively. In this work, we address these two seemingly uncorrelated results in the context of \R-parity violating supersymmetry. We found that a particular combination of $LQD^c$-type operators which successfully explain the LHCb result, can also accommodate the CMS excess in the $eejj$ channel of the $W_R$ search.
We present the prospects of an angular analysis of the $Λ_b \to Λ(1520)\ell^+\ell^-$ decay. Using the expected yield in the current dataset collected at the LHCb experiment, as well as the foreseen ones after the LHCb upgrades, sensitivity studies are presented to determine the experimental precision on angular observables related to the lepton distribution and their potential to identify New Physics. The forward-backward lepton asymmetry at low dilepton invariant mass is particularly promising. NP scenarios favoured by the current anomalies in $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ decays can be distinguished …
The Run 2 data taking period of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in years 2015-2018 has presented a great opportunity to search for physics beyond the standard model (BSM). It will be followed by the Run 3 period starting in 2022, and by the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era starting in late 2020s, where the latter promises an unprecedented wealth of physics prospects due to very high expected integrated luminosity and improved detector features. The ATLAS, CMS and LHCb experiments pursued a rich physics program in Run 2, and are already assessing the physics expectations at the HL-LHC e…
Heavy flavour physics provides excellent opportunities to indirectly search for new physics at very high energy scales and to study hadron properties for deep understanding of the strong interaction. The LHCb experiment has been playing a leading role in the study of heavy flavour physics since the start of the LHC operations about ten years ago, and made a range of high-precision measurements and unexpected discoveries, which may have far-reaching implications on the field of particle physics. This review highlights a selection of the most influential physics results on CP violation, rare dec…
Observation in astronomy suggests that our Universe contains an abundance of matter over antimatter, which can only be explained if the combined CP symmetry is violated. Studies of CP violation have driven the flavor physics with the aim of testing the Standard Model of particle physics and searching for physics beyond. CP violation is discovered in strange, beauty and charm meson systems, however no conclusive sign of CP violation in baryon decays has been observed yet. This review summarizes CP violation studies performed by the LHCb experiment in charmless decays and rare decays of beauty b…
The LHCb detector provides accurate vertex reconstruction and hadronic particle identification, which make the experiment an ideal place to look for light long-lived particles (LLP) decaying into Standard Model (SM) hadrons. In contrast with the typical search strategy relying on energetic jets and a high multiplicity of tracks from the LLP decay, LHCb can identify LLPs in exclusive, specific hadronic final states. To illustrate the idea, we study the sensitivity of LHCb to an exotic Higgs decay $h\to SS$, followed by the displaced decay of GeV-scale scalars into charged kaons $S\to K^+K^-$. W…
With the first data being recorded at Belle II, we are at the brink of a new era in quark flavour physics. The many exciting new opportunities for Belle~II include a full angular analysis of inclusive ${\bar B \to X_{s} \, \ell^+\ell^-}$ which has the potential to reveal new physics, in particular by its interplay with the exclusive $b \to s \ell^+\ell^-$ counterparts studied extensively at LHCb. In this paper, we present fully updated Standard Model predictions for all angular observables necessary for this endeavour. These predictions are tailored to Belle II and include an elaborate study o…
Invited "News & Views" for the journal, SCIENCE CHINA: Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy, on a recently new search for the doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^+$ at the LHC, which is done by the LHCb Collaboration, arXiv:1909.12273.
The direct searches for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) particles have been constraining their mass scale to the extent where it is now becoming consensual that such particles are likely to be above the energy reach of the LHC. Meanwhile, the studies of indirect probes of BSM physics, with all their diversity, have been progressing both in accurracy and in setting up observables with reduced theoretical uncertainties. The observation of flavour anomalies in $b$ hadron decays represents an important part of the program of indirect detection of BSM physics. Several benchmark analyses involving lepto…
In this talk, we briefly report the investigations of the mass spectra for the $cc\bar c\bar c, bb\bar b\bar b$, $bc\bar b\bar c$ and $cc\bar b\bar b$ tetraquark states by using the QCD moment sum rule method. The calculations for the fully-charm $cc\bar c\bar c$ tetraquarks have been successfully predicted the existence of di-$J/ψ$ resonances including $X(6900)$ in LHCb's observation. The quantum numbers for these resonance structures are also suggested. More efforts are still needed in both theoretical and experimental aspects to study the properties of these fully-heavy tetraquark states. T…
We perform a quantitative analysis of the $bb\bar{b}\bar{b}$ tetraquark decays into hidden- and open-bottom mesons and calculate, for the first time, the $bb\bar{b}\bar{b}$ tetraquark total decay width. On the basis of our results, we propose the $bb\bar{b}\bar{b} \to B^{+} B^{-} (B^0 \bar{B}^0) (B_s^0 \bar{B}_s^0) \to l^{+} l^{-}+\text{X}$ decays as the most suitable channels to observe the $bb\bar{b}\bar{b}$ tetraquark states, since the calculated two-lepton cross section upper limit, $\simeq 39 $ fb, is so large as to be potentially detectable with the 2018 LHCb sensitivity, paving the way …
Inspired by the observation of the fully-charm tetraquark $X(6900)$ state at LHCb, the production of $X(6900)$ in $\bar{p}p\rightarrow J/ψJ/ψ$ reaction is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach and Breit-Wigner formula. The numerical results show that the cross section of $X(6900)$ at the c.m. energy of 6.9 GeV is much larger than that from the background contribution. Moreover, we estimate dozens of signal events can be detected by D0 experiment, which indicates that searching for the $X(6900)$ via antiproton-proton scattering may be a very important and promising way. Therefore, rel…
In this paper, we describe the potential of the LHCb experiment to detect Stealth physics. This refers to dynamics beyond the Standard Model that would elude searches that focus on energetic objects or precision measurements of known processes. Stealth signatures include long-lived particles and light resonances that are produced very rarely or together with overwhelming backgrounds. We will discuss why LHCb is equipped to discover this kind of physics at the Large Hadron Collider and provide examples of well-motivated theoretical models that can be probed with great detail at the experiment.
We investigate $B_sπ^+$ scattering in s-wave using lattice QCD in order to search for an exotic resonance X(5568) with flavor $\bar b s \bar d u$; such a state was recently reported by D0 but was not seen by LHCb. If X(5568) with $J^P=0^+$ exists, it can strongly decay only to $B_sπ^+$ and lies significantly below all other thresholds, which makes a lattice search for X(5568) cleaner and simpler than for other exotic candidates. Both an elastic resonance in $B_sπ^+$ as well as a deeply bound $B^+\bar K^0$ would lead to distinct signatures in the energies of lattice eigenstates, which are not s…
We use a combination of quark-antiquark and $B^{(*)}K$ interpolating fields to predict the mass of two QCD bound states below the $B^*K$ threshold in the quantum channels $J^P=0^+$ and $1^+$. The mesons correspond to the b-quark cousins of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ and have not yet been observed in experiment, even though they are expected to be found by LHCb. In addition to these predictions, we obtain excellent agreement of the remaining p-wave energy levels with the known $B_{s1}(5830)$ and $B_{s2}^*(5840)$ mesons. The results from our first principles calculation are compared…
