We construct an algebra of generalized functions $^*\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{R}^d)$. We also construct an embedding of the space of Schwartz distributions $\mathcal{D}^\prime(\mathbb{R}^d)$ into $^*\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ and thus present a solution of the problem of multiplication of Schwartz distributions which improves J.F. Colombeau's solution. As an application we prove the existence of a weak delta-like solution in ${^*\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{R}^d)}$ of the Hopf equation. This solution does not have a counterpart in the classical theory of partial differential equations. Our result improves a similar result by M. Radyna obtained in the framework of perturbation theory.
We list multiplier and convolutor spaces of the spaces occurring in L. Schwartz' "Théorie des distributions". Furthermore we clarify whether the multiplications and convolutions are continuous or not.
In this paper, we state as a conjecture a vector-valued Hopf-Dunford-Schwartz lemma and give a partial answer to it. As an application of this powerful result, we prove some Fe fferman-Stein inequalities in the setting of Dunkl analysis where the classical tools of real analysis cannot be applied.
In this paper we introduce and study the multiplication among smooth functions and Schwartz families. This multiplication is fundamental in the formulation and development of a spectral theory for Schwartz linear operators in distribution spaces, to introduce efficiently the Schwartz eigenfamilies of such operators and to build up a good functional calculus for them. The definition of eigenfamily is absolutely natural and this new operation allows us to develop a rigorous and manageable spectral theory for Quantum Mechanics, since it appears in a form extremely similar to the current use in Ph…
In this paper we investigate the spectra and the ergodic properties of the multiplication operators and the convolution operators acting on the Schwartz space $\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R})$ of rapidly decreasing functions, i.e., operators of the form $M_h: \mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R})\to\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R})$, $f \mapsto h f $, and $C_T\colon \mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R})\to\mathcal{S}(\mathbb{R})$, $f\mapsto T\star f$. Precisely, we determine their spectra and characterize when those operators are power bounded and mean ergodic.
The resolvent function of an operator in a Banach space is defined on an open subset of the complex plane and is holomorphic. It obeys the resolvent equation. A generalization of this equation to Schwartz distributions is defined and a Schwartz distribution, which satisfies that equation is called a resolvent distribution. In important cases the resolvent distribution is the whole plane. Its restriction to the subset, where it is continuous, is the usual resolvent function. Its complex conjugate derivative is ,but a factor, the spectral Schwartz distribution, which is carried by a subset of th…
As follows from the Schwartz Impossibility Theorem, multiplication of two distributions is in general impossible. Nevertheless, often one needs to multiply a distribution by a discontinuous function, not by an arbitrary distribution. In the present paper we construct a space of distributions where the general operation of multiplication by a discontinuous function is defined, continuous, commutative, associative and for which the Leibniz product rule holds. In the new space of distributions, the classical delta-function $δ_τ$ extends to a family of delta-functions $δ_τ^α$, dependent on the \te…
In a recent paper, we gave a topological description of Colombeau type algebras introducing algebras of sequences with exponential weights. Embeddings of Schwartz' spaces into the Colombeau algebra G are well known, but for ultradistribution and periodic hyperfunction type spaces we give new constructions. We show that the multiplication of regular enough functions (smooth, ultradifferentiable or quasianalytic), embedded into corresponding algebras, is the ordinary multiplication.
The resolvent of an operator in a Banach space is defined on an open subset of the complex plane and is holomorphic. It obeys the resolvent equation. A generalization of this equation to Schwartz distributions is defined and a Schwartz distribution, which satisfies that equation is called a resolvent distribution. Its restriction to the subset, where it is continuous, is the usual resolvent function. Its complex conjugate derivative is,but a factor, the spectral Schwartz distribution, which is carried by a subset of the spectral set of the operator. The spectral distribution yields a spectral …
We construct differential algebras in which spaces of (one-dimensional) periodic ultradistributions are embedded. By proving a Schwartz impossibility type result, we show that our embeddings are optimal in the sense of being consistent with the pointwise multiplication of ordinary functions. In particular, we embed the space of hyperfunctions on the unit circle into a differential algebra in such a way that the multiplication of real analytic functions on the unit circle coincides with their pointwise multiplication. Furthermore, we introduce a notion of regularity in our newly defined algebra…
Colombeau algebras constitute a convenient framework for performing nonlinear operations like multiplication on Schwartz distributions. Many variants and modifications of these algebras exist for various applications. We present a functional analytic approach placing these algebras in a unifying hierarchy, which clarifies their structural properties as well as their relation to each other.
A topological description of various generalized function algebras over corresponding basic locally convex algebras is given. The framework consists of algebras of sequences with appropriate ultra(pseudo)metrics defined by sequences of exponential weights. Such an algebra with embedded Dirac's delta distribution induces discrete topology on the basic space. This result is in analogy to Schwartz' impossibility result concerning multiplication of distributions.
We apply L.~Schwartz' theory of vector valued distributions in order to simplify, unify and generalize statements about convolvability of distributions, their regularization properties and topological properties of sets of distributions. The proofs rely on propositions on the multiplication of vector-valued distributions and on the characterization of the spaces $\mathcal{O}_{M}(E,F)$ and $\mathcal{O}_{C}'(E,F)$ of multipliers and convolutors for distribution spaces $E$ and $F$.
The Harish-Chandra Fourier transform, $f\mapsto\mathcal{H}f,$ is a linear topological algebra isomorphism of the spherical (Schwartz) convolution algebra $\mathcal{C}^{p}(G//K)$ (where $K$ is a maximal compact subgroup of any arbitrarily chosen group $G$ in the Harish-Chandra class and $0<p\leq2$) onto the (Schwartz) multiplication algebra $\bar{\mathcal{Z}}({\mathfrak{F}}^ε)$ (of $\mathfrak{w}-$invariant members of $\mathcal{Z}({\mathfrak{F}}^ε),$ with $ε=(2/p)-1$). This is the well-known Trombi-Varadarajan theorem for spherical functions on the real reductive group, $G.$ Even though $\mathca…
We construct an algebra of generalized functions endowed with a canonical embedding of the space of Schwartz distributions. We offer a solution to the problem of multiplication of Schwartz distributions similar to but different from Colombeau's solution. We show that the set of scalars of our algebra is an algebraically closed field unlike its counterpart in Colombeau theory, which is a ring with zero divisors. We prove a Hahn-Banach extension principle which does not hold in Colombeau theory. We establish a connection between our theory with non-standard analysis and thus answer, although ind…
We construct an algebra $A=\ell^{\infty \infty}({\Bbb Z})$ of smooth functions which is dense in the pointwise multiplication algebra $\ell^\infty({\Bbb Z})$ of sup-norm bounded functions on the integers $\Bbb Z$. The algebra $A$ properly contains the sum of the algebra $A_c=\ell_c^\infty({\Bbb Z})$ and the ideal ${\cal S}({\Bbb Z})$, where $A_c$ is the algebra of finite linear combinations of projections in $\ell^\infty({\Bbb Z})$ and ${\cal S}({\Bbb Z})$ is the pointwise multiplication algebra of Schwartz functions. The algebra $A$ is characterized as the set of functions whose "first deriva…
We define a family of star products and involutions associated with $κ$-Minkowski space. Applying corresponding quantization maps we show that these star products restricted to a certain space of Schwartz functions have isomorphic Banach algebra completions. For two particular star products it is demonstrated that they can be extended to a class of polynomially bounded smooth functions allowing a realization of the full Hopf algebra structure on $κ$-Minkowski space. Furthermore, we give an explicit realization of the action of the $κ$-Poincaré algebra as an involutive Hopf algebra on this repr…
