In this paper, we formulate an N=2 supersymmetric extension of a hydrodynamic-type system involving Riemann invariants. The supersymmetric version is constructed by means of a superspace and superfield formalism, using bosonic superfields, and consists of a system of partial differential equations involving both bosonic and fermionic variables. We make use of group-theoretical methods in order to analyze the extended model algebraically. Specifically, we calculate a Lie superalgebra of symmetries of our supersymmetric model and make use of a general classification method to classify the one-dimensional subalgebras into conjugacy classes. As a result we obtain a set of 401 one-dimensional nonequivalent subalgebras. For selected subalgebras, we use the symmetry reduction method applied to Grassmann-valued equations in order to determine analytic exact solutions of our supersymmetric model. These solutions include travelling waves, bumps, kinks, double-periodic solutions and solutions involving exponentials and radicals.
In this paper, a supersymmetric extension of a system of hydrodynamic type equations involving Riemann invariants is formulated in terms of a superspace and superfield formalism. The symmetry properties of both the classical and supersymmetric versions of this hydrodynamical model are analyzed through the use of group-theoretical methods applied to partial differential equations involving both bosonic and fermionic variables. More specifically, we compute the Lie superalgebras of both models and perform classifications of their respective subalgebras. A systematic use of the subalgebra structu…
We present an analytic solution of the Riemann problem for the equations of relativistic hydrodynamics with the ultra-relativistic equation of state and non-zero tangential velocities. A 3-dimensional numerical code solving such equations is described and then tested against the analytic solution.
We present the proof of the HRR theorem for a generic complex compact manifold by evaluating the functional integral for the Witten index of the appropriate supersymmetric quantum mechanical system.
Supersymmetric quantum mechanics is constructed in a new non-Hermitian representation. Firstly, the map between the partner operators $H^{(\pm)}$ is chosen antilinear. Secondly, both these components of a super-Hamiltonian ${\cal H}$ are defined along certain topologically nontrivial complex curves $r^{(\pm)}(x)$ which spread over several Riemann sheets of the wave function. The non-uniqueness of our choice of the map ${\cal T}$ between "tobogganic" partner curves $r^{(+)}(x)$ and $r^{(-)}(x)$ is emphasized.
The complete integrability of a generalized Riemann type hydrodynamic system is studied by means of symplectic and differential-algebraic tools. A compatible pair of polynomial Poissonian structures, Lax type representation and related infinite hierarchy of conservation laws are constructed.
We study the connection between periodic finite-difference Intermediate Long Wave hydrodynamical systems and integrable many-body models of Calogero and Ruijsenaars-type. The former describe quantum cohomology and quantum K-theory of the ADHM moduli space of Abelian instantons, while the latter arise in the the instanton counting in four and five dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories with eight supercharges in the presence of defects. Using string theory dualities we provide correspondences between hydrodynamical and many-body integrable systems. In particular, we match the energy spectra …
Harmonic maps from Riemann surfaces arise from a conformally invariant variational problem. Therefore, on one hand, they are intimately connected with moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces, and on the other hand, because the conformal group is noncompact, constitute a prototype for the formation of singularities, the so-called bubbles, in geometric analysis. In theoretical physics, they arise from the nonlinear $σ$-model of quantum field theory. That model possesses a supersymmetric extension, coupling a harmonic map like field with a nonlinear spinor field. In the physical model, that spinor fiel…
A differential-algebraic approach to studying the Lax type integrability of the generalized Riemann type hydrodynamic equations at N = 3; 4 is devised. The approach is also applied to studying the Lax type integrability of the well known Korteweg-de Vries dynamical system.
We give a solution of the Riemann problem in relativistic hydrodynamics in the case of ultrarelativistic equation of state and nonvanishing components of the velocity tangent to the initial discontinuity. Simplicity of the ultra-relativistic equation of state (the pressure being directly proportional to the energy density) allows us to express this solution in analytical terms. The result can be used both to construct and test numerical schemes for relativistic Euler equations in (3 + 1) dimensions.
In this paper we discuss various potentials related to the Riemann zeta function and the Riemann Xi function. These potentials are modified versions of Morse potentials and can also be related to modified forms of the radial harmonic oscillator and modified Coulomb potential. We use supersymmetric quantum mechanics to construct their ground state wave functions and the Fourier transform of the ground state to exhibit the Riemann zeros. This allows us to formulate the Riemann hypothesis in terms of the location of the nodes of the ground state wave function in momentum space. We also discuss th…
We study the connection between N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theories, quantum cohomology and quantum integrable systems of hydrodynamic type. We consider gauge theories on ALE spaces of A and D-type and discuss how they describe the quantum cohomology of the corresponding Nakajima's quiver varieties. We also discuss how the exact evaluation of local BPS observables in the gauge theory can be used to calculate the spectrum of quantum Hamiltonians of spin Calogero integrable systems and spin Intermediate Long Wave hydrodynamics. This is explicitly obtained by a Bethe Ansatz Equation provided by t…

Corrugation instabilities occurring for solutions of the Riemann problem in relativistic hydrodynamics in which the fluid moves with a non-zero velocity tangent to the initial discontinuity are studied numerically. We perform simulations both for ultrarelativistic and perfect gas equations of state. We focus on a set of problems with moderately relativistic velocities but exhausting all possible wave patterns of solutions. Perturbations are applied to the shape of the initial discontinuity. Instabilities that develop are only restricted to a region around a contact discontinuity. Both shock an…
To establish a relation between two approaches to the construction of Riemann k-wave solutions of hydrodynamic-type systems, namely the symmetry reduction method and the generalized method of characteristics.
We present a compact formula for the supersymmetric partition function of 2d N=(2,2), 3d N=2 and 4d N=1 gauge theories on $Σ_g \times T^n$ with partial topological twist on $Σ_g$, where $Σ_g$ is a Riemann surface of arbitrary genus and $T^n$ is a torus with n=0,1,2, respectively. In 2d we also include certain local operator insertions, and in 3d we include Wilson line operator insertions along $S^1$. For genus g=1, the formula computes the Witten index. We present a few simple Abelian and non-Abelian examples, including new tests of non-perturbative dualities. We also show that the large N par…
A new approach to the solution of quasilinear nonelliptic first-order systems of inhomogeneous PDEs in many dimensions is presented. It is based on a version of the conditional symmetry and Riemann invariant methods. We discuss in detail the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of rank-2 and rank-3 solutions expressible in terms of Riemann invariants. We perform the analysis using the Cayley-Hamilton theorem for a certain algebraic system associated with the initial system. The problem of finding such solutions has been reduced to expanding a set of trace conditions on wave ve…
Based on the gradient-holonomic algorithm we analyze the integrability property of the generalized hydrodynamical Riemann type equation $%D_{t}^{N}u=0$ for arbitrary $N\in \mathbb{Z}_{+}.$ The infinite hierarchies of polynomial and non-polynomial conservation laws, both dispersive and dispersionless are constructed. Special attention is paid to the cases $%N=2,3$ and N=4 for which the conservation laws, Lax type representations and bi-Hamiltonian structures are analyzed in detail. We also show that the case N=2 is equivalent to a generalized Hunter-Saxton dynamical system, whose integrability …
The unknown parameters of the recently-proposed (Int J. Geom. Meth. Mod. Phys. 1, 751 [2004]) Castro-Mahecha model of the imaginary parts (lambda_{j}) of the nontrivial Riemann zeros are the phases (alpha_{k}) and the frequency parameter (gamma) of the Weierstrass function of fractal dimension D=3/2 and the turning points (x_{j}) of the supersymmetric potential-squared Phi^2(x) -- which incorporates the smooth Wu-Sprung potential (Phys. Rev. E 48, 2595 [1993]), giving the average level density of the Riemann zeros. We conduct numerical investigations to estimate/determine these parameters -- a…
We show that the exact partition function of U(N) six-dimensional gauge theory with eight supercharges on C^2 x S^2 provides the quantization of the integrable system of hydrodynamic type known as gl(N) periodic Intermediate Long Wave (ILW). We characterize this system as the hydrodynamic limit of elliptic Calogero-Moser integrable system. We compute the Bethe equations from the effective gauged linear sigma model on S^2 with target space the ADHM instanton moduli space, whose mirror computes the Yang-Yang function of gl(N) ILW. The quantum Hamiltonians are given by the local chiral ring obser…
We introduce a natural generalisation of holomorphic curves to morphisms of supermanifolds, referred to as holomorphic supercurves. More precisely, supercurves are morphisms from a Riemann surface, endowed with the structure of a supermanifold which is induced by a holomorphic line bundle, to an ordinary almost complex manifold. They are called holomorphic if a generalised Cauchy-Riemann condition is satisfied. We show, by means of an action identity, that holomorphic supercurves are special extrema of a supersymmetric action functional.
We discuss new relations among string theory, four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) and the Riemann hypothesis. It is known that the Riemann hypothesis is equivalent to an inequality for the sum of divisors function $σ(n)$. Based on previous results in literature, we focus on the fact that $σ(n)$ appears in a problem of counting supersymmetric states in the $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM with $SU(3)$ gauge group: the Schur limit of the superconformal index plays a role of a generating function of $σ(n)$. Then assuming the Riemann hypothesis gives bounds on information on…
We present ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric mechanics on $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds constructed within the Hamiltonian approach. The structure functions entering the supercharges and the Hamiltonian obey modified covariant constancy equations as well as modified Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equations specified by the presence of the manifold's curvature tensor. Solutions of original Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equations and related prepotentials defining ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ superconformal mechanics in flat space can be lifted to $so(n)$-invariant Riemannian manifolds. For th…
We construct a large family of exact solutions to the hyperbolic system of 3 equations of ideal granular hydrodynamics in several dimensions for arbitrary adiabatic index $γ$. In dependence of initial conditions these solutions can keep smoothness for all times or develop singularity. In particular, in the 2D case the singularity can be formed either in a point or along a line. For $γ=-1$ the problem is reduced to the system of two equations, related to a special case of the Chaplygin gas. In the 1D case this system can be written in the Riemann invariant and can be treated in a standard way. …
We present SU$(2|1)$ supersymmetric mechanics on $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds within the Hamiltonian approach. The structure functions including prepotentials entering the supercharges and the Hamiltonian obey extended curved WDVV equations specified by the manifold's metric and curvature tensor. We consider the most general $u(2)$-valued prepotential, which contains both types (with and without spin variables), previously considered only separately. For the case of real Kähler manifolds we construct all possible interactions. For isotropic ($so(n)$-invariant) spaces we provide admissi…
The Riemann normal coordinate expansion method is generalized to a Kahler manifold. The Kahler potential and holomorphic coordinate transformations are used to define a normal coordinate preserving the complex structure. The existence of this Kahler normal coordinate is shown explicitly to all orders. The formalism is applied to background field methods in supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models.
