The short parton production phase in high-energy heavy-ion collisions is treated analytically as a nonlinear diffusion process. The initial buildup of the rapidity density distributions of produced charged hadrons within tau_p = 0.25 fm/c occurs in three sources during the colored partonic phase. In a two-step approach, the subsequent diffusion in pseudorapidity space during the interaction time of tau_int = 7-10 fm/c (mean duration of the collision) is essentially linear as expressed in the Relativistic Diffusion Model (RDM) which yields excellent agreement with the data at RHIC energies, and allows for predictions at LHC energies. Results for d+Au are discussed in detail.
I briefly review Non-Relativistic QCD and related effective theories, and discuss applications to heavy quarkonium decay, and production in electron-positron colliders.
Relativistic corrections to the pair $B_c$-meson production in $e^+e^-$-annihilation are calculated. We investigate a production of pair pseudoscalar, vector and pseudoscalar+vector $B_c$-mesons in the leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics and relativistic quark model. Relativistic expressions of the pair production cross sections are obtained. Their numerical evaluation shows that relativistic effects in the production amplitudes and bound state wave functions three times reduce nonrelativistic results at the center-of-mass energy s=22 GeV.
We examine string (vortex) formation at a quench for a weakly-coupled global U(1) theory when the excitation spectrum is non-relativistic. It is so similar to vortex production in the corresponding relativistic plasma as to reinforce arguments for the similarity of vorheptex production in the early universe and in low-temperature many-body physics.

We calculate the production of relativistic antihydrogen atoms by bound-free pair production. The cross section is calculated in the semiclassical approximation (SCA), or equivalently in the plane wave Born approximation (PWBA) using exact Dirac-Coulomb wave functions. We compare our calculations to the equivalent photon approximation (EPA).
Saturation models for particle production in relativistic nuclear collisions are discussed. In particular, I show that the predictions from the high density QCD for the qualitative shape of $dN/dy$ are very sensitive to the form of the unintegrated gluon distribution.
Large transverse momentum distributions of identified particles observed at RHIC are analyzed by a relativistic stochastic model in the three dimensional rapidity space. Temperature for inclusive reactions is estimated.
The relativistic hydrodynamic approach is used to describe production of strangeness and/or heavy quarks in ultrarelativistic heavy ion reactions. Production processes are important ingredients of dissipative effects in the hadronic liquid. Beyond viscosity also chemo- and thermo-diffusion processes are considered. This also allows to specify chemical and thermal freeze-out conditions.
New evaluation of the relativistic effects in the double production of $S$-wave charmonium states is performed on the basis of perturbative QCD and the relativistic quark model. The main improvement consists in the exact account of properties of the relativistic meson wave functions. For the gluon and quark propagators entering the production vertex function we use a truncated expansion in the ratio of the relative quark momenta to the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ up to the second order. The exact relativistic treatment of the wave functions makes all such second order terms convergent, th…
Rare decay process of the Higgs boson into a pair of $J/Ψ$ and $Υ$ particles is studied within perturbative Standard Model and relativistic quark model. The relativistic corrections connected with the relative motion of quarks are calculated in the production amplitude and the wave functions of the bound states. Numerical values of the decay widths of the Higgs boson are obtained, which can be used for comparison with experimental data.
The coherent production of the nP states of the $π^+π^-$ atoms ($A_{2π}$) in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions is considered as a possible source of the $A_{2π}(nP)$ beam for the pionium Lamb-shift measurement. A general expression for estimation of the $A_{2π}(nP)$ yield is derived in the framework of the equivalent photon approximation.
We calculate the production of real photons in relativistic nuclear collisions at RHIC, consistently with the quenching of fast partons. We go beyond one-body observables, and evaluate photon-triggered fragmentation functions, in the kinematical window corresponding to that of experimental measurements.
We investigate the structure of some first terms of Watson series representing the amplitude of lepton-pair production in the ion collisions. It is shown that infrared instabilities of individual terms trend to cancel each other providing the infrared stability of whole amplitude.
Dimuonium (the bound system of two muons, $μ^+μ^-$-atom) has not been observed yet. In this paper we discuss the electromagnetic production of dimuonium at RHIC and LHC in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The production of parastates is analyzed in the equivalent photon approximation. For the treatment of orthostates, we develop a three photon formalism. We determine the production rates at RHIC and LHC with an accuracy of a few percent and discuss problems related to the observation of dimuonium.
On the basis of perturbative QCD and the relativistic quark model we calculate relativistic corrections to the double $η_c$ meson production in proton-proton interactions at LHC energies. Relativistic terms in the production amplitude connected with the relative motion of heavy quarks and the transformation law of the bound state wave functions to the reference frame of moving charmonia are taken into account. For the gluon and quark propagators entering the amplitude we use a truncated expansion in relative quark momenta up to the second order. Relativistic corrections to the quark bound stat…
Relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions create a "fireball" of strongly interacting matter at high energy density. At very high energy this is suggested to be partonic matter, but at lower energy it should consist of yet unknown hadronic, perhaps coherent degrees of freedom. The freeze-out of this high density state to a hadron gas can tell us about properties of fireball matter.
I review recent progress in understanding inclusive quarkonium production in hadron collisions. The first part focuses on non-relativistic QCD as an effective theory. I discuss its differences from and similarities with effective theories describing bound states of a single heavy quark, as far as matching calculations beyond tree-level and power counting are concerned. The second part summarizes predictions for charmonium and bottomonium production at collider and fixed target experiments and their comparison with data. The emphasis here is on novel signatures due to color octet production, po…
On the basis of pertubative QCD and the relativistic quark model we calculate relativistic corrections to the process of pair $J/ψ$ production in proton-proton collisions at LHC energy $\sqrt S=7$ TeV. Relativistic terms in the production amplitude connected with the relative motion of heavy quarks and the transformation law of the bound state wave functions to the reference frame of moving $J/ψ$ mesons are taken into account. For the gluon and quark propagators entering the amplitude we use a truncated expansion in relative quark momenta up to the second order. Relativistic corrections to the…
We analyze the structure of the Coulomb and unitarity corrections to the single pair production as well as the cross section for the multiple pair production. In the external field approximation we consider the probability of $e^+e^-$ pair production at fixed impact parameter $ρ$ between colliding ultra-relativistic heavy nuclei. We obtain the analytical result for this probability at large $ρ$ as compared to the electron Compton wavelength. We estimate also the unitary corrections to the total cross section of the process.
The three-loop non-mixing contributions to the anomalous dimension of the leading order quark pair production current in non-relativistic QCD are computed. It is demonstrated that the renormalization procedure can only be carried out consistently if the dynamics of both soft and the ultrasoft degrees of freedom is present for all scales below the heavy quark mass, and if the soft and ultrasoft renormalization scales are always correlated.
The complete next-to-next-to-leading order (i.e. $O(v^2)$, $O(v α_s)$ and $O(α_s^2)$) relativistic corrections to the total photon mediated $t\bar t$ production cross section at threshold are presented in the framework of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics. The results are obtained using semi-analytic methods and ``direct matching''. The size of the next-to-next-to-leading order relativistic corrections is found to be comparable to the size of the next-to-leading order ones.
We investigate particle production in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energies as function of incident energy, and centrality in a three-sources Relativistic Diffusion Model. Pseudorapidity distributions of produced charged hadrons in Au + Au and Cu + Cu collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 19.6 GeV, 62.4 GeV, 130 GeV and 200 GeV show an almost equilibrated midrapidity source that tends to increase in size towards higher incident energy, and more central collisions. It may indicate quark-gluon plasma formation prior to hadronization.
The new approach to the lepton pair production in the Coulomb field of two highly relativistic nuclei was developed.Solving the operator equation for lepton scattering in arbitrary Coulomb field, we obtain the amplitudes for lepton scattering in the Coulomb potential in terms of light cone variables. Using the Watson expansion for the amplitude of lepton scattering on two centers we propose prescription which allows one to construct the amplitude for lepton pair production in the Coulomb field of two highly relativistic ions. We show that for the certain sums of finite terms of the Watson seri…
On the basis of perturbative QCD and the relativistic quark model we calculate relativistic and bound state corrections in the production processes of a pair of P-wave charmonium states. Relativistic factors in the production amplitude connected with the relative motion of heavy quarks and the transformation law of the bound state wave function to the reference frame of the moving P-wave mesons are taken into account. For the gluon and quark propagators entering the production vertex function we use a truncated expansion in the ratio of the relative quark momenta to the center-of-mass energy s…
The time evolution of pseudorapidity distributions of produced charged hadrons in d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV is investigated. Results of a nonequilibrium-statistical Relativistic Diffusion Model with three sources are compared with a macroscopic "bounce back" model that does not allow for statistical equilibration at large times, but instead leads to motion reversal. When compared to the data, the results of the diffusion approach are more precise, thus emphasizing that the system is observed to be on its way to thermal equilibrium.
It is pointed out that the recently measured left-right asymmetries in inclusive pion and lambda hyperon production processes are in very good agreement with the relativistic quark model, proposed some time ago. Further predictions based on this model for hyperon productions, for lepton pair productions and for W/Z-boson productions are also presented.
On the basis of the perturbative QCD and the relativistic quark model we investigate the relativistic and bound state effects in the production processes of a pair of $S$-wave doubly heavy mesons with opposite charge conjugation consisting of $b$ and $c$ quarks. All possible relativistic corrections in the production amplitude including the terms connected with the transformation law of the bound state wave function to the reference frame of the moving pseudoscalar ${\cal P}-$ and vector ${\cal V}-$ mesons are taken into account. We obtain a growth of the cross section for the reaction $e^++e^…
We study the production of the D and J/psi mesons from deconfined quark matter at CERN SPS energy. Using the MICOR microscopical coalescence model we determine the transverse momentum spectra of these charm mesons. We predict the slopes of their transverse momentum spectra in Pb+Pb collision at 158 GeV/nucleon beam energy.
We estimate the production rates of supersymmetric particles in central heavy-ion collisions at LHC. The parton cascade model is used to seek for possible collective phenomena which enlarge the production probability of very heavy particles. Even if there is some indication of such cooperative effects, higher energy and higher luminosity of proton beams at LHC disfavor heavy-ion reactions in the search for supersymmetric particles.
On the basis of perturbative QCD and the relativistic quark model we calculate relativistic and bound state corrections in the production processes of a pair of S-wave and P-wave charmonium states. We use current-current interaction to calculate the fragmentation functions to describe the production of spin-1/2, spin-1/2$'$ and spin-3/2 baryons with massive constituents in a relativistic quark-diquark model. Our results are in their analytic forms and are applicable for singly, doubly and triply heavy baryons. We discuss the production of $Ω_{bbc}$, $Ω_{bcc}$ and $Ω_{ccc}$ baryons in some detail. The results are satisfactorily compared with those obtained for triply heavy baryons calculated in a perturbative regime within reasonable values of the parameters involved.
It is shown how nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) can be used to determine next-to-next-to-leading order relativistic and short-distance contributions to the total $t\bar t$ production cross section in the threshold regime at lepton colliders. A recipe for the calculation of all such contributions for the total photon mediated production cross section is presented and a review of the already known Abelian next-to-next-to-leading results is given.
On the basis of perturbative QCD and relativistic quark model we calculate relativistic and bound state corrections in the production processes of a pair of double heavy diquarks. Relativistic factors in the production amplitude connected with the relative motion of heavy quarks and the transformation law of the bound state wave function to the reference frame of the moving diquark S-wave bound states are taken into account. We calculated the cross section of double electron-positron pair production with two-electron capture for the collisions of Pb+Pb ions and we did our calculations at LHC energies. We applied a similar methodology for the calculation of bound-free electron-positron pair production. We used perturbation theory and implemented Monte Carlo integration techniques to calculate the lowest order Feynman diagrams. We also compared our double electron-positron pair production with two-electron capture cross section results obtained in the literature. These calculations may help us to learn more about st…
We investigate the energy dependence of stopping and hadron production in high-energy heavy-ion collisions based on a three-sources Relativistic Diffusion Model. The transport coefficients are extrapolated from Au + Au and Cu + Cu at RHIC energies (sqrt{s_NN)=19.6 - 200 GeV) to Pb + Pb at LHC energies sqrt{s_NN)= 5.52 TeV. Rapidity distributions for net protons, and pseudorapidity spectra for produced charged particles in central collisions are compared to data at RHIC energies, and discussed for several extrapolations to LHC energies.
The production and the observability of $Λ(1520)$, $K^0(892)$ $Φ$ and $Δ(1232)$ hadron resonances in central Pb+Pb collisions at 160 AGeV is addressed. The rescattering probabilities of the resonance decay products in the systems evolution are studied. Strong changes in the reconstructable particle yields and spectra between chemical and thermal freeze-out are estimated. Abundances and spectra of reconstructable resonances are predicted.
The problem of summation of the perturbation series for the process of lepton pair production in relativistic ion collisions is investigated. We show that the amplitude of this process can be obtained in the compact analytical form, if one confines to the terms growing as a powers of logarithm energy in the cross section, the approximation of which is completely justified for such colliders as RHIC and LHC. Using this result we calculate the Coulomb corrections to the cross section of the process under consideration.
We investigate the exclusive production of the pseudoscalar mesons pi0, eta, eta', K+ and of the vector mesons omega, phi in a microscopic gluon-exchange or instanton model. We describe the baryons as covariant quark - scalar diquark systems with harmonic confinement, thus taking into account center-of-mass corrections and Lorentz contraction in different frames. The excitation of intermediate baryon resonances is accounted by colorless 2-gluon (soft Pomeron) exchange. We find that our model accounts for the systematics of the high precision data on exclusive meson production from various mode…
Collective bremsstrahlung of vector meson fields caused by mutual deceleration of the colliding nuclei is considered within the time-dependent Walecka theory. Excitation functions and rapidity distributions of particles produced by this mechanism are calculated under some simplifying assumptions about the space-time variation of the baryon current in a nuclear collision. In the case of central Au+Au collisions the bremsstrahlung mechanism becomes comparable with particle production in incoherent hadron--hadron collisions above the AGS energies.
Within a thermal model we estimate possible multiplicities of scalar glueballs in central Au+Au collisions at AGS, SPS, RHIC and LHC energies. For the glueball mass in the region 1.5-1.7 GeV, the model predicts on average (per event) 0.5-1.5 glueballs at RHIC and 1.5-4 glueballs at LHC energies. Possible enhancement mechanisms are discussed.
The event topology in relativistic heavy ion collisions is determined by various multi-particle production mechanisms. The simultaneous model treatment of different collective nuclear effects at high energies (such as a hard multi-parton fragmentation in hot QCD-matter, thermal resonance production, hydrodynamical flows, etc.) is actual but rather complicated task. We discuss the simulation of the above effects by means of Monte-Carlo model HYDJET++.
It is shown that the amplitudes of electron-ion scattering and $e^+e^-$ pair production in the Coulomb field of two colliding ions are sxpressed in the terms of electron scattering amplitudes in the fields of the individual ions via the Watson expansion. We have obtained the compact expressions for these amplitudes valid in the high energy limit and discuss the crossing symmetry relations among the considered processes.
We consider the next-to-leading order thermal production rate of heavy right-handed neutrinos in the non-relativistic regime m_top < pi*T << M, where m_top refers to the electroweak scale. Rephrasing the problem in an OPE language and making use of different techniques than a previous analysis by Salvio et al, we confirm the general structure of their result and many of the coefficients. We also extend the analysis to the next order in the non-relativistic expansion, thereby revealing the leading non-trivial momentum dependence, as well as to NNLO in couplings, revealing the leading sensitivit…
We study the pair production of $B_c$ mesons in the photon-photon interaction in the framework of perturbative quantum chromodynamics and the relativistic quark model. The production amplitudes of a pair of pseudoscalar and vector $B_c$ mesons are constructed in the nonrelativistic approximation and taking into account relativistic effects. Relativistic corrections related to the relative motion of heavy quarks in the production amplitude, as well as in the wave function of the bound state of heavy quarks, are taken into account. Analytical expressions are constructed for the relativistic diff…
We propose a picture of turbulent pattern formation in the relativistic heavy-ion collision, which follows an efficient process to break color strings and dispose energy in the whole phase space. We perform numerical simulations using the SU(2) pure Yang-Mills theory in a non-expanding box to observe a dynamical phenomenon in the transverse plane akin to the domain growth in time-dependent spin systems.
Strangeness enhancement is discussed as a feature specific to relativistic nuclear collisions which create a fireball of strongly interacting matter at high energy density. At very high energy this is suggested to be partonic matter, but at lower energy it should consist of yet unknown hadronic degrees of freedom. The freeze-out of this high density state to a hadron gas can tell us about properties of fireball matter. The hadron gas at the instant of its formation captures conditions directly at the QCD phase boundary at top SPS and RHIC energy, chiefly the critical temperature and energy den…
Non-relativistic physics is often associated with atomic physics and low-energy phenomena of the strong interactions between nuclei and quarks. In this review we cover three topics in contemporary high-energy physics at or close to the TeV scale, where non-relativistic dynamics plays an important if not defining role. We first discuss in detail the third-order corrections to top-quark pair production in electron-positron collisions in the threshold region, which plays a major role at a future high-energy e+ e- collider. Threshold effects are also relevant in the production of heavy particles i…
The exclusive production of one $μ^+μ^-$ pair in collisions of two ultra-relativistic nuclei is considered. We present a simple method for the calculation of the Born cross section for this process based on an improved equivalent photon approximation. We find that the Coulomb corrections to this cross section (corresponding to multi-photon exchange of the produced $μ^{\pm}$ with the nuclei) are small while the unitarity corrections (corresponding to the exchange of light-by-light blocks between nuclei) are large. This is in sharp contrast to the exclusive $e^+e^-$ pair production where the Cou…
Production of electron-positron pairs with invariant masses less than 300 MeV from thermalized hadronic matter in relativistic heavy ion collisions is calculated using a soft virtual photon approximation. The general theoretical framework is reviewed and extended to include arbitrarily massed and charged reaction partners, which we apply to pions and quarks. This result, exact within the soft photon approximation, is compared with a widely used approximate result which uses an electromagnetic amplitude limited in validity to momentum transfers less than $4m_{π(q)}^{2}$. A comparison is made be…
We analyse the structure of relativistic corrections in the inclusive production of polarized $J/Ψ$ from b-quark decay. The analysis is performed not only for the production channel in which the $c\bar c$ pair is a color sinlet, but also for the channels in which the $c\bar c$ is a color octet. We find that the correction in the color-singlet channel at the tree-level is completely determined by the decay constant of $J/Ψ$, while in the color-octet channels the corrections are characterized by three matrix elements defined in NRQCD, whose numerical values are unknown. We discuss the impact of …
We consider Wong equations for a particle with a continuous mass spectrum in a random Yang-Mills field approximating the quantum field at finite temperature. We show that particle time evolution can be approximated by a relativistic diffusion. Kubo's generator of the relativistic diffusion is defined as an expectation value of the square of the Liouville operator.
The energy dependence of particle production sources in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is investigated from RHIC to LHC energies. Whereas charged-hadron production in the fragmentation sources follows a ln(s_NN/s_0) law, particle production in the mid-rapidity gluon-gluon source exhibits a much stronger dependence proportional to ln^3(s_NN/s_0), and becomes dominant between RHIC and LHC energies. The production of particles with pseudorapidities beyond the beam rapidity is also discussed.
We present, using the statistical model, an analysis of the production of light nuclei, hypernuclei and their antiparticles in central collisions of heavy nuclei. Based on these studies we provide predictions for the production yields of multiply-strange light nuclei.
The production of intermediate mass dileptons in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions at SPS energies is studied. The acceptance and detector resolution inherent to measurements by the NA50 experimental collaboration are accurately modeled. The measured centrality dependence of the intermediate mass lepton pair excess is also addressed.
The relativistic corrections to the productions of double J/psi, double Upsilon, and J/psi+Upsilon at the Tevatron and the LHC were investigated within the frame of nonrelativistic QCD. The ratios of short distance coefficients between relativistic correction and leading order result for color singlet and color octet states in large p_T limit are approximately -1,-11/3, respectively, for pair production. And for J/psi+Upsilon process the ratio is -11/6 for the CO channel. The K factors of relativistic corrections for color singlet and color octet double J/psi production are -0.23 and -0.84 wit…
