We discuss how to apply regularization by dimensional reduction for computing hadronic cross sections at next-to-leading order. We analyze the infrared singularity structure, demonstrate that there are no problems with factorization, and show how to use dimensional reduction in conjunction with standard parton distribution functions. We clarify that different versions of dimensional reduction with different infrared and factorization behaviour have been used in the literature. Finally, we give transition rules for translating the various parts of next-to-leading order cross sections from dimensional reduction to other regularization schemes.
We present recent QCD calculations of energy flow distributions associated with the production of jets at wide rapidity separations in high-energy hadron collisions, and discuss the role of these observables to analyze contributions from parton showering and from multiple parton collisions.
We discuss high-pT production processes at forward rapidities in hadron-hadron collisions, and describe recent results from using QCD high-energy factorization in forward jet production at the LHC.
Recently, significant enhancements of $e^{+} e^{-}$ pair production at very low transverse momentum ($p_{T} < 0.15$ GeV/c) were observed by the STAR collaboration in peripheral hadronic A+A collisions. This excesses can not be described by the QGP thermal radiation and $ρ$ in-medium broadening calculations. This is a sign of coherent photon-photon interactions, which were conventionally studied only in ultra-peripheral collisions. In this article, we present calculations of lepton pair ($e^{+}e^{-}$ and $μ^{+}μ^{-}$) production from coherent photon-photon interactions in hadronic A+A collision…
Heavy quarkonium ($Υ$) production at low transverse momentum ($P_\perp$) in high-energy hadronic collisions is revisited from the point of view of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) framework. We perform resummation of double logarithmic correction associated with initial-state soft gluon shower for $b\bar b$ production by employing Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism. We show that the CSS formalism provides a nice description of $Υ$ production data in p+$\rm\bar{p}$ collisions at Tevatron and p+p collisions at the LHC.
I present an overview of the ridge phenomenon in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions. This novel collimation between rapidity separated hadron pairs is a consequence of non-linear gluon dynamics within the small-x wave-function of the colliding hadrons.
After introducing the concept of geometrical scaling (GS) on the example of deep inelastic ep scattering, we show that GS is also present in the p_T spectra measured by the LHC. We discuss simple phenomenological signatures of GS and its applications.
We propose a collinear factorization formula for the associated production of one particle and a Drell-Yan pair in hadronic collisions. It is shown that additional collinear singularities appearing in the next-to-leading order calculations that can not be factorized into parton and fragmentation functions are systematically renormalized by introducing fracture functions. Next-to-leading order coefficient functions for cross-sections double differential in the fractional energy of the identified hadron and lepton pair invariant mass are presented.
Using a relativistic hydrodynamics + hadronic afterburner simulation we explore resonance production in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV, and demonstrate that many resonance yields, mean transverse momenta, and flows are very sensitive to the late stage hadronic rescattering. Out of all measured resonances $Λ(1520)$ is affected strongest by the hadronic rescattering stage, which allows to estimate its duration, and even constrain branching ratios of $Σ^* \to Λ(1520)π$ decays. Strong suppression of $Λ(1520)$, which in vacuum has a lifetime of 12.6 fm/$c$, is explained by its small lifetime in a hadr…
We give a short overview of the phenomenology of azimuthal and transverse single spin asymmetries in (un)polarized high-energy hadronic collisions. We briefly summarize a transverse momentum dependent, generalized parton model approach to these polarization phenomena, and discuss some of its applications. Finally, open points and future developments will be outlined.
Production of heavy photons (Drell-Yan), gauge bosons, Higgs bosons, heavy flavors, which is treated within the QCD parton model as a result of hard parton-parton collision, can be considered as a bremsstrahlung process in the target rest frame. In this review, we discuss the basic features of the diffractive channels of these processes in the framework of color dipole approach. The main observation is a dramatic breakdown of diffractive QCD factorisation due to the interplay between soft and hard interactions, which dominates these processes. This observation is crucial for phenomenological s…
We examine Higgs boson production and decay in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC and future colliders. Owing to the long lifetime of the Higgs boson, its hadronic decays may experience little or no screening from the hot and dense quark-gluon plasma whereas jets from hard scattering processes and from decays of the electro-weak gauge bosons and the top-quark suffer significant energy loss. This distinction can lead to enhanced signal to background ratios in hadronic decay channels and thus, for example, provide alternative ways to probe the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs boson to the bottom quark …
Detailed and precise background predictions are the backbone of large parts of high-energy collider phenomenology. This requires to embed precision QCD calculations into detailed event generators, to produce comprehensive software simulations. Only continued progress in this direction will allow us to exploit the full potential of measurements at the Large Hadron Collider, or at a future Electron-Ion Collider. This work presents a method to combine third-order QCD calculations for hadronic scattering processes with Monte-Carlo event generators, thus enabling a new generation of precision predi…
It has been known for a long time that hyperons produced in hadronic collisions are polarized perpendicular to the production plane of the reaction. This effect cannot be described by using twist-2 collinear parton correlators only. Here we compute the contribution of twist-3 fragmentation functions to the production of transversely polarized hyperons in unpolarized proton-proton collisions in the framework of collinear factorization. By taking into account the relations among the relevant twist-3 fragmentation functions which follow from the QCD equation of motion and the Lorentz invariance p…
We present the NLO QCD corrections to diphoton plus jet production at hadron colliders. Our calculation includes contributions from the fragmentation of a hadronic jet into a highly energetic photon, and consequently allows the implementation of arbitrary infrared-safe photon isolation definitions. We compare different photon isolation criteria and perform a detailed study of the dependence of the diphoton plus jet cross section on the photon isolation parameters.
It is shown that the contribution from double parton scattering to the inclusive double heavy meson yield is quite comparable with the usually considered mechanism of their production at the LHC energy. For some pairs of heavy flavored quarks in the final state the double parton scattering will be a dominant mode of their production.
