Recent results and future prospects for Y(5S) running at B-factories are discussed. The first Belle measurements with 23.6 fb-1 of data taken at the Y(5S) energy are reported. Eligibility of potential measurements expected with 100 fb-1 and 1000 fb-1 of data at the Y(5S) is estimated.
Proceedings of CKM 2012, the 7th International Workshop on the CKM Unitarity Triangle, University of Cincinnati, USA, 28 September - 2 October 2012. A concise overview of the possibilities offered by high-luminosity B Factories in mixing and mixing-related CP violating processes in B decays is presented.
We present an overview of a study on precise mass reconstruction and identification of charged hadrons ($π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$) using time-of-flight measurements in the electromagnetic calorimeter of a typical Higgs factory detector. Time-of-flight measurements can take advantage of fast timing Si sensors with a time resolution in the order of 10 ps. A precise time-of-flight measurement might contribute to the kaon mass determination and can improve particle identification in the momentum regions inaccessible for the $dE/dx$ method. In this contribution, we discuss the current status and th…
Prospects for Pentaquark Production at Meson Factories
The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) with a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 240 GeV is proposed to serve as a Higgs factory, while it can also provide good opportunity for new physics searches at lower energy, which are difficult in hadron colliders but well-motivated by some theory models such as dark matter. This paper presents the sensitivity study of direct stau / smuon production at CEPC using full Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. With the assumption of flat 5% systematic uncertainty, the CEPC has the potential to discover the production of combined left-handed and right-handed s…
The potential of muon beams for high energy physics applications is described along with the challenges of producing high quality muon beams. Two proposed approaches for delivering high intensity muon beams, a proton driver source and a positron driver source, are described and compared. The proton driver concepts are based on the studies from the Muon Accelerator Program (MAP). The MAP effort focused on a path to deliver muon-based facilities, ranging from neutrino factories to muon colliders, that could span research needs at both the intensity and energy frontiers. The Low EMittance Muon Ac…
Muon colliders and neutrino factories are attractive options for future facilities aimed at achieving the highest lepton-antilepton collision energies and precision measurements of Higgs boson and neutrino mixing matrix parameters. The facility performance and cost depend on how well a beam of muons can be cooled. Recent progress in muon cooling design studies and prototype tests nourishes the hope that such facilities could be built starting in the coming decade. The status of the key technologies and their various demonstration experiments is summarized. Prospects "post-P5" are also discusse…
Prospects in CP violation measurements at the Tevatron Collider
We demonstrate how probes of CP-violating observables in Higgs di-tau decays at prospective future lepton colliders could provide a test of weak scale baryogenesis with significant discovery potential. Measurements at the Circular Electron Positron Collider, for example, could exclude a CP phase larger than $2.9^\circ$ ($5.6^\circ$) at 68% (95%) C.L. assuming the Standard Model value for magnitude of the tau lepton Yukawa coupling. Conversely, this sensitivity would allow for a $5\,σ$ discovery for 82% of the CP phase range $[0,2π)$. The reaches of the Future Circular Collider - ee and Interna…
The design of detector concepts has been driven for a long time by requirements on transverse momentum, impact parameter and jet energy resolutions, as well as hermeticity. Only rather recently it has been realised that the ability to idenfity different types of charged hadrons, in particular kaons and protons, could have important applications at Higgs factories like the International Linear Collider (ILC), ranging from improvements in tracking, vertexing and flavour tagging to measurements requiring strangeness-tagging. While detector concepts with gaseous tracking, like a time projection ch…

The lecture discusses both the current status of the LHC collider as well as its future running scenarios. In addition a selection of the latest physics results from ATLAS/CMS and LHCb is presented.
The LHCb experiment is running at the Large Hadron Collider to study CP violation and rare decays in the beauty and charm sectors. The physics potential is given for five key observables sensitive to new physics in nominal conditions. The motivation and the strategy of the upgrade envisaged for 2016 is presented with the expected performance for an integrated luminosity of 50 1/fb.
Future lepton colliders will have a rich top quark physics program which would add to our understanding of this interesting quark and promise an ultimate precision on the experimental knowledge of top-quark mass. We present possible improvements in the understanding of systematic uncertainties for various top-quark mass measurement techniques at the LHC, including projections for running conditions foreseen in the future.
The LHCb experiment is running at the Large Hadron Collider to study CP violation and rare decays in the beauty and charm sectors. The motivation and the strategy of the upgrade envisaged for the long shutdown LS2 (2018) is presented. The current results for some exemplary physics analyses are given and the expected performances foreseen for 2018 and for the LHCb Upgrade project with an integrated luminosity of 50 fb$^{-1}$ are summarized.
One of the most attractive features of a linear collider is the ability to extend its energy reach in stages, and to adapt the running plan flexibly in terms of maximum centre-of-mass energy and time spent at each stage. The baseline luminosity staging scenario for CLIC is well-established, and has been used to obtain sensitivity projections for Standard Model measurements and Beyond Standard Model scenarios. Here, as an exercise to illustrate what could be obtained from an alternative running scenario, Higgs coupling sensitivities are presented for the case where more data is collected at the…
Experimental prospects for precision observables in $e^{-}e^{+}\rightarrow q\bar{q}$ with $q=b,c$ processes at the ILC operating at 250 and 500 GeV of center of mass
With the installation of the T1 telescope and the Roman Pot stations at 147 m from IP5, the detector apparatus of the TOTEM experiment has been completed during the technical stop in winter 2010/2011. After the commissioning of the dedicated beam optics with beta* = 90 m, a first measurement of the total pp cross-section sigma_tot and -- simultaneously -- the luminosity L will be possible in the upcoming running season 2011. The precision envisaged is 3 % and 4 % for sigma_tot and L, respectively. An ultimate beam optics configuration with beta* ~ 1 km will later reduce the uncertainty to the …
In this white paper for the Snowmass '21 community planning exercise we provide quantitative prospects for bottom quark mass measurements in high-energy collisions at future colliders that can provide a precise test of the scale evolution, or "running" of quark masses predicted by QCD.
With the discovery of the Higgs boson the Standard Model has become a complete and comprehensive theory, which has been verified with unparalleled precision and in principle might be valid at all scales. However, several reasons remain why we firmly believe that there should be physics beyond the Standard Model. Experiments such as the LHC, new $B$ factories, and earth- and space-based astro-particle experiments provide us with unique opportunities to discover a coherent framework for many of the long-standing puzzles of our field. Here we explore several significant interconnections between t…
The claim that the W boson mass might be measured at the LHC with a precision of O(10 MeV) is critically reviewed. It is argued that such a precision cannot be achieved, unless a dedicated measurement program, specific to the LHC is pursued. We propose such a program. Its main target is to significantly improve the experimental control of the relative polarisation of the W+, W- and Z bosons. We propose to achieve this goal either by running dedicated isoscalar beams at the LHC or by running, in parallel to the standard p-p collision program, a dedicated muon scattering "LHC-support-experiment"…
We discuss the implementation of the "minimal" type III seesaw model, i.e. with one fermionic triplet, in FeynRules/MadGraph. This is the first step in order to realize a real study of LHC data recorded in the LHC detectors. With this goal in mind, we comment on the possibility of discovering this kind of new physics at the LHC running at 7 TeV with a luminosity of few fb^-1.
This review will present the future prospects for physics at electron-positron colliders running near the Upsilon(4S) as well as at the charm and tau thresholds. It includes a review of the Belle II and SuperB projects. Also reviewed are the plans for BES III, which operates near the charm threshold at the IHEP BEPC machine in Bejing and the status of the Super Charm/Tau Factory proposed for the Budker Institute for Nuclear Physics (BINP) in Novosibirsk.
We present a new measurement of the bottom quark mass in the $\bar{MS}$ scheme at the renormalization scale of the Higgs boson mass from measurements of Higgs boson decay rates at the LHC: $m_b(m_H)= 2.60^{+0.36}_{-0.31}$ GeV. The measurement has a negligible theory uncertainty and excellent prospects to improve at the HL-LHC and a future Higgs factory. Confronting this result, and $m_b(m_b)$ from low-energy measurements and $m_b(m_Z)$ from $Z-$pole data, with the prediction of the scale evolution of the renormalization group equations, we find strong evidence for the "running" of the bottom q…
This paper presents the prospects for a precise measurement of the branching fraction of the leptonic $B_{c}^+\to τ^+ ν_τ$ decay at the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) running at the $Z$-pole. A detailed description of the simulation and analysis framework is provided. To select signal candidates, two Boosted Decision Tree algorithms are employed and optimised. The first stage suppresses inclusive $b\bar{b}$, $c\bar{c}$, and $q\bar{q}$ backgrounds using event-based topological information. A second stage utilises the properties of the hadronic $τ^{+} \to π^+ π^+ π^- \barν_τ$ decay to further…
LHCb is a dedicated detector for b and c physics at the LHC. I will present a concise review of the detector design and expected performance together with some first results on the commissioning of the different sub-systems based on cosmic data and particle beams delivered by the LHC during the summer of 2008. The experiment is ready to exploit first data expected from the LHC. An integrated luminosity of ~0.3fb-1, which should be collected during the first year of physics running, will already allow LHCb to perform a number of very significant mesurements with the potential of revealing New P…
Fermilab operates the world's most intense antiproton source. Newly proposed experiments can use those antiprotons either parasitically during Tevatron Collider running or after the end of the Tevatron Collider program. For example, the annihilation of 5 to 8 GeV antiprotons is expected to yield world-leading sensitivities to hyperon rare decays and CP violation. It could also provide the world's most intense source of tagged D^0 mesons, and thus the best near-term opportunity to study charm mixing and, via CP violation, to search for new physics. Other measurements that could be made include …
This note presents an analysis of the potential of future high-energy electron-positron colliders to measure the $b$-quark mass. We perform a full-simulation study of the measurement of the ratio of the three-jet rates in events with $b\bar{b}(g)$ and $q\bar{q}(g)$ production, $R_{3}^{bl}$, and assess the dominant uncertainties, including theory and experimental systematic uncertainties. We find that the ILC "Higgs factory" stage, with an integrated luminosity of 2 ab$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}=$ 250 GeV can measure the $b-$quark $bar{MS}$ mass at a scale of 250 GeV ($m_b(250~$GeV$)$) with a precisio…
DM-Ice is a program towards the first direct detection search for dark matter in the Southern Hemisphere with a 250 kg-scale NaI(Tl) crystal array. It will provide a definitive understanding of the modulation signal reported by DAMA by running an array at both Northern and Southern Hemisphere sites. A 17 kg predecessor, DM-Ice17, was deployed in December 2010 at a depth of 2457 m under the ice at the geographic South Pole and has concluded its 3.5 yr data run. An active R&D program is underway to investigate detectors with lower backgrounds and improved readout electronics; two crystals with 3…
This article surveys the important questions attached to unitarity tests of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, with a focus on the direct determinations of the magnitude of CKM matrix elements. The current CKM anomalies are discussed and the clear-cut prospects at LHCb and Belle II envisaged. The anticipated precision on $C\!P$-conserving and $C\!P$-violating observables at the projected upgrades of the LHCb and Belle~II experiments is examined from the point of view of the search for New Physics in $B$-meson mixing, addressing the bottlenecks in precision for the interpretation of the meas…
