We consider regular polynomial interpolation algorithms on recursively defined sets of interpolation points which approximate global solutions of arbitrary well-posed systems of linear partial differential equations.
Convergence of the 'limit' of the recursively constructed family of polynomials to the solution and error estimates are obtained from a priori estimates for some standard classes of linear partial differential equations, i.e. elliptic and hyperbolic equations. Another variation of the algorithm allows to construct polynomial interpolations which preserve systems of linear partial differential equations at the interpolation points. We show how this can be applied in order to compute higher order terms of WKB-approximations of fundamental solutions of a large class of linear parabolic equations. The error estimates are sensitive to the regularity of the solution. Our method is compatible with recent developments for solution of higher dimensional partial differential equations, i.e. (adaptive) sparse grids, and weighted Monte-Carlo, and has obvious applications to mathematical finance and physics.
This paper presents a general high-order kernel regularization technique applicable to all four integral operators of Calderón calculus associated with linear elliptic PDEs in two and three spatial dimensions. Like previous density interpolation methods, the proposed technique relies on interpolating the density function around the kernel singularity in terms of solutions of the underlying homogeneous PDE, so as to recast singular and nearly singular integrals in terms of bounded (or more regular) integrands. We present here a simple interpolation strategy which, unlike previous approaches, do…
With the rapid growth of data, how to extract effective information from data is one of the most fundamental problems. In this paper, based on Tikhonov regularization, we propose an effective method for reconstructing the function and its derivative from scattered data with random noise. Since the noise level is not assumed small, we will use the amount of data for reducing the random error, and use a relatively small number of knots for interpolation. An indicator function for our algorithm is constructed. It indicates where the numerical results are good or may not be good. The corresponding…
We discuss a pointwise numerical differentiation formula on multivariate scattered data, based on the coefficients of local polynomial interpolation at Discrete Leja Points, written in Taylor's formula monomial basis. Error bounds for the approximation of partial derivatives of any order compatible with the function regularity are provided, as well as sensitivity estimates to functional perturbations, in terms of the inverse Vandermonde coefficients that are active in the differentiation process. Several numerical tests are presented showing the accuracy of the approximation.
The multigrid algorithm is an efficient numerical method for solving a variety of elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs). The method damps errors at progressively finer grid scales, resulting in faster convergence compared to standard iterative methods such as Gauss-Seidel. The prolongation, or coarse-to-fine interpolation operator within the multigrid algorithm lends itself to a data-driven treatment with ML super resolution, commonly used to increase the resolution of images. We (i) propose the novel integration of a super resolution generative adversarial network (GAN) model with th…
Factorization of the Gaussian RBF kernel is developed for free-mesh interpolation in the flat, polynomial limit corresponding to Taylor expansion and the Vandermonde basis of geometric moments. With this spectral approximation, a top-down octree-scoping of an interpolant is found by recursively decomposing the residual, similar to the work of Driscoll and Heryudono (2007), except that in the current approach the grid is decoupled from the low rank approximation, allowing partial separation of sampling errors (the mesh) from representation errors (the polynomial order). Then, it is possible to …

We consider polynomial approximation over the interval $[-1,1]$ by regularized weighted discrete least squares methods with $\ell_2-$ or $\ell_1-$regularization, respectively. As the set of nodes we use Gauss quadrature points (which are zeros of orthogonal polynomials). The number of Gauss quadrature points is $N+1$. For $2L\leq2N+1$, with the aid of Gauss quadrature, we obtain approximation polynomials of degree $L$ in closed form without solving linear algebra or optimization problems. In fact, these approximation polynomials can be expressed in the form of the barycentric interpolation for…
The interpolation on Grassmann manifolds in the framework of parametric evolution partial differential equations is presented. Interpolation points on the Grassmann manifold are the subspaces spanned by the POD bases of the available solutions corresponding to the chosen parameter values. The well-known Neville-Aitken's algorithm is extended to Grassmann manifold, where interpolation is performed in a recursive way via the geodesic barycenter of two points. The performances of the proposed method are illustrated through three independent CFD applications, namely: the Von Karman vortex shedding…
