The ratios of particle densities in lead-lead and proton-lead collisions to particle density in proton-proton collision in the central rapidity region at the LHC energy are predicted on the basis of wounded quark-diquark model.
Particle production in Au-Au, Cu-Cu, d-Au and p-p collisions at 200 GeV c.m. energy are analyzed in the wounded quark-diquark model. Existing data are well reproduced. Emission functions of wounded and unwounded constituents are determined. Implications for the collective evolution of the system are discussed.
Using the wounded nucleon, quark, and quark-diquark models, we extract the wounded source emission functions from the PHOBOS data for d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. We apply these models to compute charged particle multiplicity distributions as functions of pseudorapidity for p+p, p+Al, p+Au, d+Au, $^3$He+Au, Cu+Cu, Cu+Au, Au+Au, and U+U collisions at the same energy and compare them with experimental data from the PHOBOS and PHENIX collaborations. In symmetric collisions of heavy nuclei, the obtained distributions differ among the tested models. On the other hand, in asymmetri…
Resonant production of the first generation vector diquarks at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is investigated. It is shown that the LHC will be able to discover vector diquarks with masses up to 9 TeV for quark-diquark-quark coupling alpha_(D)=0.1 and 4 TeV for alpha_(D)=5x10^(-4).
We consider a class of supersymmetric models containing baryon number violating processes such as observable neutron - antineutron oscillations that are mediated by color triplet diquark fields. For plausible values of the diquark-quark couplings, the scalar diquark with mass between a few hundred GeV and one TeV or so can be produced in the s-channel at the LHC and detected through its decay into a top quark and a hadronic jet.
The yield of doubly charmed baryons with excited heavy diquark in $S$ wave and $P$ wave states has been estimated at LHC energies. The observation possibility of such baryons is discussed.
A number of years ago, low-energy constraints on scalar diquarks, particles that couple to two quarks, were examined. It was found that the two most weakly-constrained diquarks are $D^u$ and $D^d$, colour antitriplets that couple to $u_{R}^{i} u_{R}^{j}$ and $d_{R}^{i} d_{R}^{j}$, respectively. These diquarks have not been observed at the LHC. In this paper, we add the LHC measurements to the low-energy analysis, and find that the constraints are significantly improved. As an example, denoting $x^u$ as the $D^u$ coupling to the first and second generations, for $M_{D^u} = 600$ GeV, the low-ene…
We investigate a model in which tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level by using scalar leptoquark and diquark multiplets. The diquark can be singly produced at the LHC, and it can decay into a pair of leptoquarks through the lepton number violating interaction. Subsequent decays of the two leptoquarks can provide a clear signature of the lepton number violation, namely two QCD jets and a pair of same-signed charged leptons without missing energy. We show that the signal process is not suppressed while neutrino masses are appropriately suppressed.
We calculate the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to quark-quark annihilation to a scalar resonant state ("diquark") in a color representation of antitriplet or sextet at the Tevatron and LHC energies. At the LHC, we find the enhancement (K-factor) for the antitriplet diquark is typically about 1.31--1.35, and for the sextet diquark is about 1.22--1.32 for initial-state valence quarks. The full transverse-momentum spectrum for the diquarks is also calculated at the LHC by performing the soft gluon resummation to the leading logarithm and all orders in the strong coupling.
First results of a detailed analysis of p+p elastic scattering data are presented from ISR to LHC energies utilizing the quark-diquark model of protons in a form proposed by Bialas and Bzdak. The differential cross-section of elastic proton-proton collisions is analyzed in detailed and systematic manner at small momentum transfers, starting from the energy range of CERN ISR at $\sqrt{s}= 23.5$ GeV, including also recent TOTEM data at the present LHC energies at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. These studies confirm the picture that the size of protons increases systematically with increasing energies, whil…
In the wounded nucleon model, a proton-nucleus (p+A) collision is a superposition of independent nucleon-nucleon collisions. We use this model to calculate the average transverse momentum of pions, kaons and protons in high energy p+A collisions. For the same number of produced particles, because the number of participants differs, in the wounded nucleon model the transverse momentum of hadrons can differ between p+p and p+A collisions. In this model we find that the average transverse momentum in high multiplicity p+A collisions depends weakly on the number of produced particles, and underest…
Existence of color sextet diquark Higgs fields with TeV masses will indicate a fundamentally different direction for unification than conventional grand unified theories. There is a class of partial unification models based on the gauge group $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times SU(4)_c$ that implement the seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass with seesaw scale around $10^{11}$ GeV, where indeed such light fields appear naturally despite the high gauge symmetry breaking scale. They couple only to up-type quarks in this model. We discuss phenomenological constraints on these fields and show that they coul…
The LHCb has discovered two new states with preferred $J^P$ quantum numbers $3/2^-$ and $5/2^+$ from $Λ_b$ decays. These new states can be interpreted as hidden charm pentaquarks. It has been argued that the main features of these pentaquarks can be described by diquark model. The diquark model predicts that the $3/2^-$ and $5/2^+$ are in two separate octet multiplets of flavor $SU(3)$ and there is also an additional decuplet pentaquark multiplet. Finding the states in these multiplets can provide crucial evidence for this model. The weak decays of b-baryon to a light meson and a pentaquark ca…
The LHC is actively searching for narrow dijet resonances corresponding to physics beyond the Standard Model. Among the many resonances that have been postulated (e.g., colored vectors, scalars, and fermions) one that would have a particularly large production rate at the LHC would be a scalar diquark produced in the s-channel via fusion of two valence quarks. In previous work, we introduced a color discriminant variable that distinguishes among various dijet resonances, drawing on measurements of the dijet resonance mass, total decay width and production cross-section. Here, we show that this…
Baryon number violating (BNV) processes are heavily constrained by experiments searching for nucleon decay and neutron-antineutron oscillations. If the baryon number violation occurs via the third generation quarks, however, we may be able to avoid the nucleon stability constraints, thus making such BNV interactions accessible at the LHC. In this paper we study a specific class of BNV extensions of the standard model (SM) involving diquark and leptoquark scalars. After an introduction to these models we study one promising extension in detail, being interested in particles with mass of O(TeV).…
New physics at the TeV scale is highly anticipated at the LHC. New particles with color, if within the LHC energy reach, will be copiously produced. One such particle is a diquark, having the quantum numbers of two quarks, and can be a scalar or a vector. It will decay to two light quarks, or two top quarks, or a top and a light quark, (up or down type depending on the quantum number of the produced diquark). If singly produced, it can be looked for as a dijet resonance, or as giving extra contribution to the single top production or tt production. In this work, we consider a color sextet vect…
We study contributions of a scalar diquark particle in a color representation of anti-triplet and sextet to the top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the Large hadron collider (LHC). The model can give Forward-Backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron while can avoid the same sign top quark production at the LHC by assuming the top-number conserving diquark couplings. We study compatibility between the large positive FB asymmetry observed at the Tevatron and non-observation of the charge asymmetry at the LHC, by including contributions from the single and pair production of diquarks. We …
In this paper, we propose a parameterization which is based on a phenomenological model involving the wounded quarks interactions for explaining the average charged particle multiplicity $\ < n_{ch}\ >$, the central pseudo-rapidity density $\ < (dn/dη)_{η=0}\ >$ and complete rapidity dependence of $dn/dη$ in relativistic heavy-ion collider experiments. The model also interrelates nucleus-nucleus (A-A) collisions with p-A and p-p interactions. Our parameterization rests on simple assumptions regarding mean number of participating quarks and their average number of collisions. The results for $\…
With the upcoming run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at much higher center of mass energies, the search for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics will again take center stage. New colored particles predicted in many BSM scenarios are expected to be produced with large cross sections thus making them interesting prospects as a doorway to hints of new physics. We consider the resonant production of such a colored particle, the diquark, a particle having the quantum number of two quarks. The diquark can be either a scalar or vector. We focus on the vector diquark which has much larger productio…
The masses of the recently reported by LHCb two pentaquark charmonium states $P_{c}^{*}(4380)$ and $P_{c}^{*}(4450)$ which are supposed to have the configuration $(uudc\overline{c})$ have been estimated in the framework of the quasiparticle model of diquarks considering $[ud][uc]\overline{c}$ configuration. The masses are reproduced very well which indicates that the description of diquark as quasiparticle is very useful for describing multiquark state and to understand the dynamics of it.
We have previously predicted multiplicities and transverse momentum spectra of hadrons for the most central LHC Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.5$ TeV using initial state for hydrodynamic evolution from pQCD + final state saturation model. By considering binary collision and wounded nucleon profiles we extend these studies to non-central collisions, and predict the $p_{T}$ dependence of minimum bias $v_{2}$ for pions at the LHC. For protons we also show how the $p_{T}$ dependence of $v_2$ changes from RHIC to the LHC.
Final results of a detailed analysis of p+p elastic scattering data are presented, utilizing the quark-diquark model of protons in a form proposed by Bialas and Bzdak. The differential cross-section of elastic proton-proton collisions is analyzed in a detailed and systematic manner at small momentum transfers, starting from the energy range of CERN ISR at $ \sqrt{s}= 23.5 $ GeV, including also recent TOTEM data at the present LHC energies at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. These studies confirm the picture that the size of proton increases systematically with increasing energies, while the size of the con…
The finite size of doubly heavy diquark gives a positive correction to the masses of baryons calculated in the local diquark approximation. We evaluate this correction for the basic states of doubly charmed baryons to give quite accurate predictions actual for current searches of those baryons at LHCb: $m[{Ξ_{cc}^{1/2}}^{+}]\approx m[{Ξ_{cc}^{1/2}}^{++}]=3615\pm 55$ MeV and $m[{Ξ_{cc}^{3/2}}^{+}]\approx m[{Ξ_{cc}^{3/2}}^{++}]=3747\pm 55$ MeV.
The 2020 announcement by LHCb of a narrow structure $X(6900)$ in the di-$J/ψ$ spectrum -- a potential $c\bar c c\bar c$ state -- has opened a new era in hadronic spectroscopy. In this talk, we briefly survey theory works preceding this event, examine key features of the observed spectrum, and then discuss how subsequent theory studies (including with the author's own dynamical diquark model) have interpreted these features. We conclude with proposals for experiments capable of distinguishing competing interpretations.
In the LHC collider a significant rate of events with double parton scattering is expected. This will be the leading mechanism for production of two b-bbar pairs. We estimate the probability of binding two b quarks into a diquark and the probability of dressing this diquark into a b-b-ubar-dbar ISP=01+ tetraquark. Calculations shows that that this bound state of two B mesons is stable against the strong interaction and has a life time of the order of ps. We estimate that the production rate at luminosity L=0.1 events per second will be about 6 tetraquarks per hour or more.
$QQ^\prime qq\bar q$ pentaquarks are studied in a potential model, under the hypothesis that they are composite objects of two diquarks and one antiquark. The interaction between two colored objects includes two contributions, one based on the $q\bar q$ potential in QCD, computed in the gauge/string duality approach, and another describing the spin-spin interaction. The model has been extended to investigate pentaquarks with different quark content, as $Qqqq\bar q$ and $Qqqq\bar Q$, the latter including the states observed by LHCb, $P_c(4380)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+$, later updated, with a new dat…
The usual range of new particle masses, up to a few TeV, searched for at the LHC may be substantially extended if ultraheavy diquark particles exist. A diquark scalar, $S_{uu}$, that interacts perturbatively with two up quarks may be as heavy as 10 TeV and would still produce tens of spectacular events at the 14 TeV LHC. It is shown here that an ultraheavy $S_{uu}$ could be discovered through final states of very high energy in various channels, especially if the diquark can decay into other new heavy particles. Examples include cascade decays of $S_{uu}$ via a second scalar produced in pairs,…
We analyze $pA$ interactions at ultra-high energies within the semiclassical approximation for high energy processes accounting for the diffractive processes and a rapid increase with the incident energy of the coherence length. The fluctuations of the strength of interaction expected in QCD and momentum conservation are taken into account also. We evaluate the number of wounded nucleons in soft and hard processes, the multiplicity of jets in the proton fragmentation region as a function of the variance of the distribution over the interaction strengths directly measured in forward diffractive…
A new scheme of state classification is proposed and applied to analyze masses of the heavy baryons $Ω_{Q}$, $Σ_{Q}$ and $Ξ_{Q}^{\prime}$ in P-waves. The results confirm all excited $Ω_{c}$ and $Ω_{b}$ baryons reported recently by LHCb to be bound states of a P-wave $ss$-diquark and a respective charm or bottom quark, and thereby predict Regge trajectories for more excited $Ω_{c}$ and $Ω_{b}$ baryons. We suggest one excited {$J^{P}=5/2^{-}$} $Ω_{b}$ state to be unseen by LHCb around $6352$ MeV, and predict P-wave masses of all spin-partners of the odd-parity baryons $Σ_{c}(2800)/Ξ_{c}^{\prime}…
We give heavy quark-diquark symmetry predictions for doubly heavy baryons and tetraquarks in light of the recent discovery of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by LHCb. For five excited doubly charm baryons that are predicted to lie below the $Λ_c D$ threshold, we give predictions for their electromagnetic and strong decays using a previously developed chiral Lagrangian with heavy quark-diquark symmetry. Based on the mass of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$, the existence of a doubly heavy bottom $I=0$ tetraquark that is stable to the strong and electromagnetic decays has been predicted. If the mass of this state is below 1…
The LHCb collaboration have recently updated their analysis of the resonant $J/ψ\, p$ mass spectrum in the decay $Λ_b^0 \to J/ψ\, p\, K^-$, making use of their combined Run~1 and Run~2 data. In the updated analysis, three narrow states, $P_c (4312)^+$, $P_c (4440)^+$, and $P_c (4457)^+$, are observed. The spin-parity assignments of these states are not yet known. We interpret these narrow resonances as compact hidden-charm diquark-diquark-antiquark pentaquarks. Using an effective Hamiltonian, based on constituent quarks and diquarks, we calculate the pentaquark mass spectrum for the complete $…
We investigate the effect of non-trivial spatial correlations between proton constituents, considered in this work to be gluonic hot spots, on the initial conditions of proton-proton collisions from ISR to LHC energies, i.e. $\sqrt s\!=\!52.6,7000,13000$ GeV. The inclusion of these correlations is motivated by their fundamental role in the description of a recently observed new feature of $pp$ scattering at $\sqrt s\!=\!7$ TeV, the hollowness effect. Our analysis relies on a Monte-Carlo Glauber approach including fluctuations in the hot spot positions and their entropy deposition in the transv…
Thanks to the remarkable achievements of LHC, a large database on baryons has been accumulated, so it is believed that the time for precisely studying baryons especially heavy baryons, has come. By analyzing the data, the quark-diquark structure which has been under intensive discussions, can be tested. In this work the decay widths of weak transitions $Σ_b\to Σ^*_c+X$ are calculated in terms of the light front quark model (LFQM). To carry out the calculations, the quark-diquark picture is employed where an axial-vector diquark composed of two light quarks serves as a spectator in the concerne…
In the framework of the leading order of perturbative QCD and the nonrelativistic quark-diquark model of baryons we have obtained fragmentation function for c-quark to split into Omega_{ccc} baryon. It is shown that at LHC one can expect 3.5 10^3 events with Omega_{ccc} at p_t>5 GeV/c and -1<y<1 per year.
We study the case of a di-bottomonium $bb\bar b\bar b$ particle at the LHC. Its mass and decay width are obtained within a new model of diquark-antidiquark interactions in tetraquarks. The same model solves several open problems on the phenomenology of the experimentally better known $X,Z$ states. We show that the $bb\bar b\bar b$ tetraquark is expected approximately 100 MeV below threshold, and compare to a recent analysis by LHCb seeking it in the $Υμμ$ final state.
We study the theory and some experimental hints of ultraheavy resonances at the LHC. The production of an ultraheavy narrow particle may have a larger rate than the QCD background even when the final state includes only hadronic jets. We consider two classes of models that lead to 4-jet signals. In the first class a diquark scalar decays into two vectorlike quarks. In the second one a coloron decays into two color-octet scalars or into a pair of vectorlike quarks. We show that a diquark as heavy as 11.5 TeV, or a coloron as heavy as 8.5 TeV may be discovered at the LHC. We point out that a CMS…
We study the hadronic production of four-quark states with double heavy quarks and double light antiquarks at LHC. The production mechanism is that a color anti-triplet diquark cluster consisting of double heavy quarks is formed first from the produced double heavy quark-antiquark pairs via $gg$ fusion hard process, followed by the fragmentation of the diquark cluster into a four-quark (tetraquark) state. Predictions for the production cross sections and their differential distributions are presented. Our results show that it is quite promising to discover these tetraquark states in LHC experi…
We perform a systematic study of models involving leptoquarks and diquarks with masses well below the grand unification scale and demonstrate that a large class of them is excluded due to rapid proton decay. After singling out the few phenomenologically viable color triplet and sextet scenarios, we show that there exist only two leptoquark models which do not suffer from tree-level proton decay and which have the potential for explaining the recently discovered anomalies in B meson decays. Both of those models, however, contain dimension five operators contributing to proton decay and require …
We consider the Nuclear Modification Ratios in heavy ion collisions, R_CP and R_AA, in the region of intermediate transverse momentum, and study the dependency upon the constituent quark composition of the observed hadron. Adopting a two component recombination/fragmentation model, validated by experimental information from STAR and PHENIX, we show that a clear distinction is predicted for the f0(980) between the assumptions of $s\bar s$ or diquark-antidiquark content.
We investigate the quark-lepton symmetric model of Foot and Lew in the context of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this `bottom-up' extension to the Standard Model, quark-lepton symmetry is achieved by introducing a gauged `leptonic colour' symmetry which is spontaneously broken above the electroweak scale. If this breaking occurs at the TeV scale, then we expect new physics to be discovered at the LHC. We examine three areas of interest: the Z$'$ heavy neutral gauge boson, charge $\pm1/2$ exotic leptons, and a colour triplet scalar diquark. We find that the LHC has already explored and/or …
In ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions the baryon-meson ratio is not fully understood in the intermediate-to-high transverse momentum region. Although quark coalescence methods combined with jet fragmentation yield results close to the experimental data, some tendencies are not reproduced and require further investigation. We propose a new channel, namely extra quark-antiquark and diquark-antidiquark pair production from coherent gluon field created in the early stage of heavy ion collisions. This process is described quantitatively by the time-dependent Schwinger-mechanism. The extra diqua…
In the framework of diquark model for production we discuss the yields and observation prospects for excited states of doubly heavy baryons at LHC kinematic conditions.
In our previous work, based on the $SU(6)$ spin-flavor wave function, we regard $Λ$ and $p$ as composed of different quark-diquark configurations and established the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) equations of configurations for quark and scalar diquark. In our present work, we apply this model to calculate the form factors of the semileptonic transitions $Λ_b\rightarrowΛl^+l^-$ $(l=μ,e,τ)$ and $Λ_b\rightarrow p l\barν$ within the Standard Model (SM). The decay $Λ_b\rightarrowΛμ^+μ^-$ is especially interesting since it has been measured in CDF and LHCb Collaborations and this rare decay is very sensitive…
In present work we discuss the production of heavy quarkonia and diquarks in $pp$-interactions. The aim is to take into account the production of bound states of quarks originating from independent parton scatterings. This production is regulated by constraints on the invariant mass of constituents. Such an approach leads to larger value of the diquark production cross section than traditional consideration in single parton scattering. This production mechanism of doubly heavy baryons can sooner be verified by modern experiments (e.g. LHCb). We also discuss related contributions to double and …

Inspired by the recent observation of a very narrow state, called $T_{cc}^+$, by the LHCb collaboration, the possible bound states and low-lying resonance states of the doubly heavy tetraquark states $cc\bar{u}\bar{d}$ ($T_{cc}$) and $bb\bar{u}\bar{d}$ ($T_{bb}$) are searched in the framework of chiral quark model with an accurate few body method, Gaussian expansion method. The real scaling method is also applied to identify the genuine resonance states. In the calculation, the meson-meson structure, diquark-antidiquark structure, as well as their coupling are all considered. The numerical res…
Masses of the ground-state teraquarks composed from heavy $c$ and $b$ quarks and antiquarks are calculated in the diquark-antidiquark picture in the framework of the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. The quasipotentials of the quark-quark and diquark-antidiquark interactions are constructed similarly to the previous consideration of mesons and baryons. It is assumed that the diquark and antidiquark interact in the tetraquark as a whole and the internal structure of the diquarks is taken into account. All such tetraquarks are found above the thresholds of decays to …
Hadronic freezeout during the evolution of the medium created in heavy-ion collisions is an important phenomena. It is quite useful to find a universal freezeout condition for each and every nuclear collisions. In this article, we have constructed a hybrid model to calculate the ratio of transverse energy to total mean multiplicity $E_{T} /N_{ch}$, since this ratio can possibly act as a freezeout condition in heavy-ion collision experiments. Present hybrid model blends two approaches : Tsallis statistics and wounded quark approach. Recently, Tsallis statistics has been reliably used to obtain …
The differential cross-section of elastic proton-proton collisions is studied at ISR and LHC energies, utilizing a quark-diquark model, that generalizes earlier models of Bialas and Bzdak, and, in addition, a model of Glauber and Velasco. These studies suggest that the increase of the total pp cross-section is mainly due to an increase of the separation of the quark and the diquark with increasing energies. Within the investigated class of models, two simple and model-independent phenomenological relations were found, that connect the total pp scattering cross-section to the effective quark, d…
Masses of heavy baryons are calculated in the relativistic quark-diquark picture. Obtained results are in good agreement with available experimental data including recent measurements by the LHCb Collaboration. Possible quantum numbers of excited heavy baryon states are discussed.
Proton-nucleus collisions (p+A) at LHC energies provide a rigorous test of the Color Glass Condensate (CGC), a model proposed to describe the high energy limit of Quantum Chromodynamics. In the CGC the average multiplicity of charged particles at midrapidity in p+A collisions depends logarithmically on the number of participants, $N_{part}$. In contrast, the Wounded Nucleon Model (WNM) of independent nucleon-nucleon scatterings, verified at RHIC energies, predicts that multiplicity in p+A depends linearly on $N_{part}$. We argue that for the first time, the dependence of mean multiplicity on $…
We investigate the hadronic production of the doubly heavy baryon $Ξ_{bc}$ at the large hadron collider (LHC), where contributions from the four $(bc)$-diquark states $(bc)_{\bf\bar{3},6}[^1S_0]$ and $(bc)_{\bf\bar{3},6}[^3S_1]$ have been taken into consideration. Numerical results show that under the condition of $p_T>4$ GeV and $|y|<1.5$, sizable $Ξ_{bc}$ events about $ 1.7\times 10^7$ and $3.5\times10^9$ per year can be produced for the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{S}=7$ TeV and $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV respectively. For experimental usage, the total and the interested differential cross-sections …
The form factors of the rare $Λ_b\to n l^+l^-$ decays are calculated in the framework of the relativistic quark-diquark picture of baryons with the consistent account of the relativistic effects. Their momentum transfer squared dependence is determined explicitly in the whole accessible kinematical range. The decay branching fractions, forward-backward asymmetries and the fractions of longitudinally polarized dileptons are determined. The branching fraction of the rare $Λ_b\to nμ^+μ^-$ decay are found to be ${\rm Br}(Λ_b\to nμ^+μ^-)=(3.75\pm0.38)\times10^{-8}$ and thus could be measured at the…
